Nails by Lisa WAS a wonderful place to go for nails. At first it was amazing! I waited maybe 10 minutes max for my appt. The Pedi's are amazing, and they do an amazing job on your hands. The wait is what did it for me. Almost every time I go in, I am waiting between 30 and 45 minutes PAST my appt time. I'm sorry, but if you have an appt. they should be able to take you within 10 or 15 minutes from your appt time. Not 45 minutes later!!! I actually brought it up to the owners daughter about the wait time and she told me, "You WILL have to wait when you come here! We are VERY busy, if you don't like waiting, then you need to find somewhere else to go!!" SO, I am doing exactly what she told me to do. I am finding some where else to go! Please let me start off by saying, I LOVE my Pacifica merchants. I get my hair done in Pacifica, I have a naturopath in Pacifica, I get acupuncture, my meat, my liquor, my groceries - well you get the point. Giving back to local merchants and having amazing service is what I love most about this little coastal city. But I ask one question, why, oh why cannot find a nail place that I can love in Pacifica?! The reviews for Nails by Lisa were amazing, so amazing that I when I needed an emergency appointment (I have to get cleaned up for a business trip I am taking next week) I did not hesitate to call. The woman who answered the phone was cheerful, thanked me for trying them after I told her that I had never been there before, and reminded me that they are cash only and the price of the mani/pedi that I was going to get. Plus! They fit me in on a Saturday. This was off to a great start - or so I thought. When I got there I had to wait for about 20 minutes, which I guess is the norm from reading some of the reviews. No big deal. When I saw the products they were using (cheap and overly scented) I thought - eh you get what you pay for. It was not until I was seated in the pedicure station that I finally realized what kind of a place I was at. The pedicurist next to me was giving some poor woman flack for having bad feet. The woman was apologetic! Amazing, you should not have to apologize for the condition of your feet ladies, if it was not for imperfect feet she would not have a business! My lady was distant and cold, it was probably because there was a language barrier. I did not mind, as long as she did not give me flack for my feet I could sit back and read my magazine. Then when I went for the manicure, she did the unforgivable. She cut my cuticle so far back she made me bleed, then laughed and said she had to perform surgery on my cuticles. Ah hell no! Don't blame my cuticles for your lack of skill. When she saw that I was not amused, she did sincerely apologize several times. She went on to the next hand. Then she sprayed alcohol in my open, bleeding cut, when I winced she once again apologized and blew on my finger. After about 5 minutes I realized that the bleeding was not going to stop. I said to forget about the color, I needed a band aid - then she argued with me and said I did not. She was kindly arguing, but arguing none the less. Finally she insisted on getting me a band aide. I was charged for my manicure and pedicure, then she asked me my name. When I told her, that it was ok I will not be coming back all she replied with was that was for the paper work. I really want to give the review one star, but there were ladies in there who were very genuine and nice, as well as, customers who genuinely loved the place. If I could give zero stars I would. Laurie who attempted to do my pedicure was horrible. She didn't massage my feet or legs at all, didn't clean under the nail, painted my toe nails from right to left and made a mess out of my nails. The other lady was rude to me by making comments and kept shaking and telling me she was hot, she turned all the fans on which blew on me. The staff was very friendly and did a great job with our pedicures; however, it wasn't until I took the nail polish off my toes for a home paint-job that I realized I had a nail infection. I never get my nails done so this was supposed to be a nice treat but ended up not so well. I rarely write bad reviews but my experience here is worth mentioning. I booked mani/pedi for a party of 5. They were able to accommodate us in such a short notice. There were a lot of people. My first thoughts were that it must be a good place based on the yelp reviews and the amount of people inside. Although the workers seemed nice, and they did a good job on my nails, I will not go back: Cleanliness - couches in their waiting area had covers that did not appear clean. After my pedicure they had me walk barefoot on the carpet to the nail dryers. The carpet didn't look clean, as if they haven't been vacuumed in months to put it nicely. There was duct tape on the carpet. The entire place did not look clean to me. I compare the cleanliness to the inside of a Bart train. Parking - they have a very tiny parking lot in front of the salon. Perfect for small cars only, best fitted for smart cars. They do not offer gel pedicures but will do it for $50. A regular mani/pedi is $42. Extra $10 to remove gel polish on your toes. Cash only but they do have an atm on site. They accidentally spilled a container of soapy solution on my friend. Her pants were soaked. Rather than offering her a towel to pat dry she had to ask for one. read more

I was so disappointed today. I really wanted a pedicure and I heard about this place and was so excited to try them. I stopped by without an appointment and they were really busy and asked if I could come back later in the afternoon. I said sure, not a problem. I called later and came back and waited about 15 minutes. Then I found out they are CASH only. There were absolutely no signs. Nothing on the door, not at the counter, not online. There was an atm in the corner, but I'm sorry, I am not paying those ridiculous fees, unless of course it is in lieu of a tip. If you want to be cash only, I completely understand. I have gone to Lisa's twice and both times I have left with wounds. The first time the woman rubbed my leg so hard that I left with a huge bruise on my leg (and I do not bruise easily). Originally I stopped by this little gem just because it was simply on the way to my parents house. Now, I drive all the way down to Nails By Lisa from the City every 3-4 weeks for a luxurious pedicure hour with my mom. These ladies are probably some of the friendliest, and thorough nail techs in the Bay Area. Their attention to detail, ability to remember names, stories, families etc is impeccable. I have been going to this place for the last year because it is close to home and they do an all right job. From the beginning I had had little things I didn't necessarily like, but I put up with it. My mother, my aunt and I go every two weeks for acrylics and our toes. We spend probably well over $200 a month there and know all the ladies very well. We put up with them being 20 mins late a lot, but never had problems with any longer of a wait. My mom recently got in a bad accident and can't sit for more than an hour an her feet are real sensitive (the ladies know all this). My mom got her toes done a few times and they made her bleed and when she complained about them being rough they lady just sort of chuckled. The next time we went in, we walked in for an appointment with Tina and Teri and first of all Tina wasn't even there. Two ladies without appointments were seated right when we walked in. We sat for 30 mins and the nail ladies didn't say a word to us. I told them my mom couldn't sit that long and took her home. I came back and sat for another 30 mins and they still said nothing to me. I asked them what was going on and all they said was they were sorry. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! As a valuable customer they treated me with utter disrespect. *They are ALWAYS late for appointments. *They take people that don't have appointments before those that do. *They are very rough on nails even when asked to be gentle. *Overpriced!!!! *Favor some people over others. *Not sterile. *Messed up my nails and toenails. *I have one ingrown toenail and they made it so much worse!! And it became infected two days later. *Cracked both of my big toenails half way down from improper shaping. *Do a terrible job with cuticles. *Never massage. *Blame you for having bad nails or feet. *Acrylics chip and lift after a week and a half to matter what. *Don't listen to your requests *Use cheap products. *No parking. *TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE Overall, find a better place... I have gone here to get my nails done for over 10 years. It is my mom's and my favorite nail salon and we have tried quite a few salons. It is clean and bright, the service is friendly and courteous, and the prices are relatively low. It used to be really convenient to go here as we lived in Half Moon Bay. However, now that we live in San Jose, it is a little harder to get to so we usually only get to Lisa's every month to 2 months. However, we still keep coming and it is a great excuse to go to the coast (we usually go to Half Moon Bay afterwards and grab lunch at the harbor or on Main Street). They give the best pedicures (especially Tina and Lisa). They not only paint your nails but they go around each cuticle and get out all the dry skin. In addition, they give great foot and hand massages. Also, a thing that is very important to me after hearing all the horror stories of people getting infections from nail salons, the staff at Lisa's are very conscientious about cleaning the basins of the spa chairs thoroughly wth disinfectant after each person is done with their treatment. Go here for your next mani/pedi and you won't regret it! Note: The only downside is the parking lot. It is better since they repaved it this past year, but it is very small and still can be really tough to get in and out. In fact, one time my mom and I saw one woman scrape the undercarriage of her car on the curb as she was trying to get out. If possible, park on the street instead (just watch the signs and color of the curb) and avoid the parking lot altogether (especially if there are more than two cars in the lot.)! read more

When I used to work in Moss Beach, I drove past Nails by Lisa every day while driving down the 1. I'm glad I decided to stop by and get my nails done. Even though I no longer work in Moss Beach, I still travel far just to get my mani/pedi from them because I haven't been to a single place that does it better than Nails by Lisa. I'm a full-time heels kinda gal so my feet constantly needs TLC. Most other nail salons I've been barely cut my cuticles and simply slap paint on my nails. Nails by Lisa does way more than that, scrubbing away my calluses, massaging my feet, and helping me pick the best colors for my nails. If you're looking to get your nails done here, allot some time here because every worker takes their time in getting your nails done right. Sometimes there's a wait when I arrive, but I know the end result is well worth it. My feet are horrible because of the shoes that I wear, but Nails by Lisa definitely maintains it to look polished. Everyone here is very friendly and I really enjoy coming to chat with Lisa, Bambi, Kathy, and Terri. I will definitely go here for as long as I live in the Bay Area. read more

Mixed review. Went in at 9:30 on Saturday, there was 1 orher person in there. Lorie started immedietly on my pedicure. she is super friendly and speaks good english. (always important to me). my pedicure was painful but lorie apologized. my pedicure finished and I decided to get a gel nail polish. Not gel acrylic just a clear gel coat. for both my mani/pedi i was charged $65!!! Ridicilous. I questioned the high price and was told it was $40 for nail polish? I used to come here when I was in high school and still lived in Pacifica so while I'm visiting my parents and needed my nails done for a wedding this weekend I decided to come back. They made me feel like I had never left and did an amazing job on my acrylic fill and gel set. They even mixed a custom color for me so it wouldn't clash with my dress! This was by far the WORST pedicure experience I've ever had! The pedicurist I went to made me bleed on 4 different toes, my right big toe got the brunt of it and actually bled quite a bit. Because she was cutting skin off, it of course hurt, so my reflex was to move my toe a little. Instead of asking me "Does that hurt?" the pedicurist decided it was appropriate to slap my foot. This happened at least 5 times. Never did she ask if she was hurting me, or ask me not to move. Slapping was her method. After 40 minutes of torture, she hadn't even moved on to the foot scrub section of the pedicure. At that point I decided I needed to leave. I asked her what she charges ($20) and offered to pay half . She rinsed my feet and I left. Thinking on it now I can't believe I actually paid her anything at all. Never, ever, go here. Unless you like bleeding and having your foot slapped, then by all means, Nails By Lisa is your place. read more

I am writing about two separate times that I have been to Nails By Lisa, Both were excellent experiences. My first time going, about a few weeks ago I walked in without an appointment just to have my acrylic nails removed(They were done horribly at another shop), I had heard good things about Nails By Lisa so I decided I would give them a shot since it is so close to home. I waited for about 5 minutes before Tina walked over and got me, She was very friendly and even asked my name and properly introduced herself. Most places won't ever take the time to get to know clients on a personal basis so that was a major plus. She was extremely gentle about removing the nails, and very thorough. No pieces were left behind, no nicks or burns from the filing and my natural nails were practically unharmed. She even offered a manicure to go with it. To which I asked if I could get an acrylic set to replace the ones I had removed. After speaking with Terry(I assume she is in charge) they were able to find another manicurist to do the nails for me. I never got the name of the other manicurist but she was also very friendly, and very gentle. She took her time and focused on each nail to make sure everything was even and smooth. She even offered to get me water or tea. I was very satisfied with both girls and I could not complain about the price. It was 10$ cheaper to have my nails removed, and replaced than it was when I originally had them done elsewhere! My second time going I decided to make an appointment for 2pm on a Saturday. I walked in at exactly 2pm and Terry was able to take me right on the spot. This time was for an acrylic set removal and a manicure. Even though I had gone in so soon after just getting them on Terry took the time to soak my nails and patiently take them off at my request. She was very gentle, and informative about everything she did and very friendly striking up lots of conversation. You can tell she takes a lot of pride in her work. I am very satisfied with my nails.They were all even, cuticles trimmed nicely and the polish done neatly. The massage included was also very relaxing. I definitely enjoyed my time during the manicure and did not feel rushed as most places make you feel. Terry did everything she could to make it a good experience for me, Despite having to answer phones and make appointments she was very professional about it all. Overall the shop is clean, the tools are all clean and the staff are all very friendly. I would definitely recommend Nails By Lisa to any of my friends. read more

Sad to say I have to give this one 2 stars only! The pedi I got was just OK...but I did get cut & bled a bit. The really bad part is the atmosphere here. its like Hoarders episodes. When I walked in thee were broken down cardboard boxes lined up hiding whatever was in the glass case. Tissues from others toes (you know, the wound up things to seperate toes) were all over the floor-I counted 7 of them, and all mags & papers were just strewn about on the tables, floor and chairs. it was dusty and junky looking as well as not picked up in general. The DO seem to sanitize properly though, or i wouldnt have stayed. I caught a peek into the back area where they have a full sized fridge and food area-that fridge is PACKED to the brim. Very weird! I feel kinda bad saying all this, as the owner seems so nice, but super ick! Cant go back! read more

I look for sterilization of the instruments and pumice stones, not as sterile as I'd like. I like places that have a sterilized package for each client. Amazing! Softest my feet have EVER been. Was here on vacation. Stopped in for a pedicure. "Bambi Boo Boo" is a feisty, fun and kind lady. She takes her foot care seriously. She was standing, sitting, dancing around...whatever it took to create baby soft feet. I have been to many salons over the years and this was seriously the best treatment I have ever received. So many times the "callous remover" at nail salons is a goopy product that the technicians file off with lackluster tenacity (i.e. they are not actually getting any dead skin off but they will charge you extra). Enter Bambi. No extra cost just an awesome pedicure. She filed and pumice-stoned and did whatever magic necessary with high-spirited muscle behind it. I wish I lived closer! I was a virgin before I had lisa. In that I'd never had a pedicure or manicure. I'm a guy and never thought I'd do that. Broken ribs forced me into that. I was nervous but from the moment I walked into lisa's I was instantly comfortable. Lisa is one of the most beautiful people in the world. She emigrated from vietnam, worked hard and loves what she does. I was honored by her attention and perfection to detail. She also did not hurt me, remember I was a virgin.
