I was referred here by a friend and I couldn't be happier. I had gotten my nails done elsewhere just days prior but the result left much to be desired. Valerie is amazing. She analayzed the situation with my nails and explained to me step by step of what she was going to do. She's also extremely meticulous & gentle which is super important for me because I have sensitive fingers and when it comes to filing, I tense up sometimes. Also, I'm someone who's really indecisive, and her HUGE selection of different colours and finishes and powders and polished and EVERYTHING, made it hard for me to choose but she was super patient with me and even helped with recommendations according to what I like. The price was the most I've ever paid, but I'm not even mad because I can tell she has taken the time to hone her craft and really be considerate of what her clients are requesting. This is a long overdue review for this gem of a place in Pacifica. Since moving to Montara a year ago I have been here twice and tried other places when I coulent get over Devils Slide for some accident or holiday traffic or just due to having a four year old and my schedule being unpredictable. Every time I went somewhere else on the coast I regretted it. Lifted nails, horrible color choices, etc. but this. This is the holy grail. Valerie has every color and powder under the sun, or fog in Pacifica's case. Last weekend I called on a Saturday asking for her first appointment on Sunday thinking no way she's open Sundays. Well, she was and she drove in to take me. At 8:30!!! I was stoked. Valerie is so friendly, the place is clean and good luck trying to choose your color. There is just tooooo many. I hate to be negative especially because the salon was very clean and the other patrons, who seemed to be regulars, looked like they received great service, but my experience was not good. I came in for a gel manicure and left very frustrated with the results. I ended up walking out of the salon with smeared polish, uneven nails, and one hand's polish a coat lighter than the other's. I knew the woman noticed the smear because she did acknowledge it. When I pointed it out again before they finished up she said the top coat would fix it- it didn't. When I asked for a second coat of polish on my right hand so it matched my left, she told me that too many coats would ruin my nails when they had to remove the polish. I just wanted the color to match. I understand that mistakes happen especially when there's people waiting, but the right way to handle them is to correct them, not make your customer feel like a nuisance and tell them no. The owner and the other worker were both polite but I don't think I'll return based on the service I received. read more

First of all, I have had my nails done in many salons. Val is outstanding! Not only are my mani/pedi's wonderful, I also had Val do permanent makeup on my brows, lips and eye liner. I am amazed how the makeup not only looks great but stays on. I had this done in a plastic surgery office years ago and it was gone in 2 weeks. I was told my skin "rejects the ink." NOT TRUE! I have known Valerie since I was 6. My sister and I always went in to get our toes painted when my mom got a fill. She's like a really cool aunt to me. I'm now 22 and getting my own acrylics done with my own style, and Valerie is there every step of it! She always does a great job considering my nails are naturally so weak from years of biting them. I am so happy that I found Valerie. I have been desperately searching for a nail salon on the Coastside that can do a full set with gel color that doesn't look like a hot mess. I called to make an appointment and Valerie got back to me right away and we set up a date via text. She even gave me a courtesy reminder text the day before! Her shop is in a great location with plenty of free parking. Upon entering her salon, I could not help but notice how clean and organized the shop was. All of the Covid safety protocols were in place as well. She had me pick out my color and provided a huge selection to choose from. She took great care in asking me what shape I wanted, the length, and if I was happy with how they looked during the entire process. She is an absolute master at her craft. She takes her time and does not rush the process. She pays attention to details and most importantly, is very gentle with the tools. Valerie is so sweet and friendly, it is no wonder she has been in business for over 25 years. I am so glad to have found her and have already set up my next appointment. I just came in for a pedicure and it was sooo rushed. When I came in, I told them I was in for a pedicure and they asked if I could come back because they have another appointment coming in at 1:15. It was 1:11 when I looked at my phone. I told them I didn't want a color. At that point, I should've left because they agreed to take me in but if you're going to take in a client when you have an appointment coming in, that's your responsibility, not mine. You shouldn't rush through my pedicure because you have another appointment coming in. I was in and out of there in 20 minutes. I was going to paint my toes at home myself because there's a specific color I wanted to paint them but now they're going to look so ridiculous because of how uneven and ugly my toes look. And for her to charge me the full price without a color is ridiculous. I've came here multiple times to get a pedicure because it's right next to my boyfriend's. They don't always do a great job but it's convenient. I live in the city but I'm at my boyfriend's on the weekends so I just thought I'd stop by before I go run some errands. I called Valerie's Nails today to see if I could make an appointment however there was no answer. So I stopped by since I was right around the corner. I asked if she had an opening for a pedicure today and she replied (without ever looking at me), "No, no time." Then her customer who was getting a manicure said, "she's by herself today so she can't take any more appointments." I like how the random customer tried to make up for the employee's awful customer service. I went in to have my nails done and was treated like they were doing me a favor. The owner kept looking over and making comments in her native language. I was incredibly uncomfortable. The owner takes credit cards for payment, but not for tips. When I asked why she said she was not going to pay a credit card fee for her people to get tips. I found that disgusting. How can you treat your emloyees that way? My gel chipped after three days and my big toe nails are cut at an angle. I will never return. read more

I have been getting acrylics done for 20 years, and all through highschool and my early 20's I went to Valeries and loved them. Fast forward to my early thirties...after having kids and not getting acrylics done in an effort to save that money to go towards diapers, I got a gift certificate for Mother's Day....SO DISAPPOINTED! There was a lot of talking and you get the feeling they are talking about you. I asked for a pink tip manicure, basic french but with a hot pink tip instead of white, they had no idea what I was talking about. The lady who did my acrylics did them poorly, didn't check to be sure both hands had nails at the same length, when they painted the nail they didn't bother to make sure the tip line was even, and they all want to put that light pearlized polish on top of your french manicure. I still had money on the gift certificate so I had to go again and I had a fill, I was left waiting for 30-45 minutes because a group of teenaged girls were 30 min late, my appt was at 4:30, I was there at 4:20 I sat down at 5:10. I was hoping Valerie would do my nails since she is the only one who does them good and quickly too, but no I got the same lady I had last time, it took her forever to do my nails, Valerie started on a woman 15 minutes after me for a full set and she was done before I was! Again the french manicure was uneven! They advertise that they have airbrush, but only one person does it and he is never there...what's the point! Valerie also brings her little dog into the shop all the time and it is running around everywhere, just unprofessional. Recently I went to another salon to get my fill since I refuse to pay for Valerie's poor service only to have to take all my nails off (only had them a month!) since when they were originally put on there was a gap in between the nail and acrylic and water had gotten in between, and one nail had a FUNGUS! Never in 20 years have I had a fungus. My husband called to tell Valerie since I was getting my nails done and she was very defensive and rude saying she wanted a picture of the nail with the fungus and the person who said it was a fungus, she also said salons will tell you that you have a fungus to try and get your business. I took a picture of the nail but was not about to take a picture of the tech for her pleasure. I've been to many salons and have NEVER had anyone try to get my business by trickery. Good business practices and good work get people to come back. My advice, stay far away from Valeries. read more

I politely said I had no problem waiting. Since her appointment were late she said she will do me first. I've never had a faster or poorly done manicure in my life! It took less than 8 minutes!
