TLDR: Avoid this place! I came to Sunny twice - once to get my nails done and then weeks later to get the hard gel removed. Both times I had a negative experience. I only returned the 2nd time because Sunny made a big fuss about how other nail techs don't know how to take off products carefully but she does....boy was she WRONG. Sunny is unfriendly, rude, judgemental, and likes to argue. She has been late both times to my appointments as well. I got tip extensions because I wanted a little length. She expected me to have my nails super long but I asked her to cut a lot shorter and she got mad and proceeded to argue with me. I asked her to remove the tips so I can leave, because I don't want her doing what she's not comfortable with and I don't want to get something I didn't ask for. She refused and kept arguing and then ultimately said she would do what I asked for (I sent pictures beforehand, asked questions, and she accepted my request and scheduled me). She assumed I wanted an almond shape but I told her I wanted square, and she got annoyed and mentioned most of her clients prefer almond. She's pretty rough on the hands and nails, and doesn't carefully file the nails. She charges extra for a manicure, but she literally spent a couple minutes "cleaning" my cuticles. When it came to the design, she complained about how she doesn't do "American style" and only does Asian style...and how she usually doesn't do custom nails for first-time clients. Why book me knowing what I asked for and then proceed to complain the entire time? This was the sh*ttiest nail experience. She painted my nails pretty sloppily and then complained how it took her so long to do my nails. In the end, she started rushing because she was running behind and her next appt was already waiting (she yelled at them to wait outside and stop knocking). I returned to Sunny to remove the hard gel because she knows what products she uses and repeatedly has stated in the past that she knows how to do this carefully. My natural nails had grown longer and I wanted to keep the length but they were so brittle by the end she just cut it off and then shaped it round...barely asking and confirming. She doesn't use clean or sanitized tools...and she reuses the same nail filer with all clients. She did such an awful job filing off the hard gel and got too much of my natural nails ans even left scratches and dents in my nailbed. My nails were SO sensitive and are still sensitive (writing this weeks later). When she got down to the tips, she just flicked them off with her fingers and it ended up ripping off and further damaging my nailbeds. I had to trim my nails when I got home because the new growth was so flimsy and weak. I continue to trim my nails bc my entire nail bed is overfilrd amd messed up. This is the worst state my nails have been in and I can't believe I paid $30 for someone to damage my nails. I booked an appointment for a trip back in 2023, back when Sunny had a chair in SF. I messaged her on Instagram and inquired about her prices, she quoted me gel extension for $120 then asked me to send a picture of nails and told me my nails were uneven, so I agreed that I would do extensions. When I got to my appointment, Sunny said I didn't need extensions & was charged an extra $10 to cut my cuticles. My total was $130, which I was surprised about because she quoted me $120 for gel extensions, which I didn't end up getting, so definitely check with her to avoid any miscommunication. Sunny is detailed oriented & open to any adjustments, but she kept complaining about how "I needed to relax my hands" and was visibly becoming irritated and rude. I definitely wanted to write a review while it was fresh in my head. I had previously went to a different nail tech for 4+ years (on and off) and I wanted to try someone else who had more experience with 3D nail art, but also wanted to switch up my nail style. I found Sunny on Instagram through an old coworker of mine, and I followed her for a year before I messaged her. CONSULTATION: I had a grown out set that was 4+ weeks old from my other nail tech, and messaged Sunny early June to schedule a nail appointment. She recommends messaging her via Instagram and she opens her books 2-3 weeks ahead. She responds in the way she receives your message. She recommends sending her some nail inspo before the appointment so she has an idea of what you want to do for your set. I reached out to her explaining I had gel x extensions from my other nail tech and wanted to do hard gel extensions since I'm more aggressive with my nails, and wanted to have gel on my natural nails to protect them. I prefer doing hard gel and getting a fill versus doing gel X each time and having to do a removal. Initially I did ask for a quote, but I was not provided one at the time. She did offer me an appointment after our initial consult and we found a day and time that worked best for us. BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT: She does message you a day prior to confirm your appointment, where to enter the salon, and the code to get to her studio. She is located at Serramonte Mall in the Sola Salon suites and it's recommended to park near Dave n Busters and enter through the side. You can park at the Target end as well and walk straight ahead through both entrance doors if you want. DAY OF APPOINTMENT: I came 10 minutes early to my appointment (my appointment was at 3:30 PM and I finished around 6 PM) and Sunny came out to greet me + walk me into her small studio. We had some small chat and we reviewed the inspo I sent her. I wanted shell nails for the longest time and I dropped a ton of photos for her. We both agreed with what set to do and then it came to the prep. Most of the appointment was quiet, but she does have a TV that has K-Pop music videos in the background and she has a phone stand for clients to use while getting their nails done. Her way of doing nails and prep was way different than what my other nail tech did. She did cut the nail extensions off and filed as much gel as she could from my nails. She did use nail forms soaked with acetone to remove all the gel from my natural nails. She did mention that my nails were too short to do the shell on my natural nails, but she said she could extend my nails to make the design work. She does use nail tips + nail glue to extend nails. The prep took roughly 1-1.5 hours since she was very gentle and took her time. Since I had a foreign set, she did have to prep my cuticles which was an additional fee, and remove my last set. We did end up doing hard gel which was what I preferred. If you are not used to hard gel extensions, they will burn when you cure them under the nail lamp. I was surprised at Sunny's application since my nail tech did it differently, but it all came together when Sunny began filing my nails down. I wanted an almond shape and she did such a beautiful job. She got rid of my cuticles, made sure I was happy with the length and shape before doing the nail design. She even gently placed my hand in the lamp to make sure the nail design was intact and it was a great experience. She walked me through the entire process and she made me confirm if the colors, charms, rhinestones, and design were fine with me. I left it all to Sunny's expertise and honestly the nails came out way better than the photos. It's so elegant and beautiful - it really exceeded all my expectations. Being in the chair for 2.5 hours was definitely worth what I got. PRICING: So you might be thinking, how much did it cost? Well there aren't prices listed anywhere besides her studio. For hard gel, it did start at $80-85+ and for fills, it was $70 from what I remember. Nail designs were $5+ and removals were $30. It would be $20 if you did a gel manicure after? I think it would be great if she had them posted on her IG for transparency, but it's initially up to Sunny since her prices could vary and change. There are other services Sunny does, but I don't remember her pricing. My set cost me $155 before tip (I tipped roughly 20%), which was initially not what I was expecting. I tried to find some reviews about her pricing, but only 1 mentioned a price. However, I can't be mad because the nails came out so beautiful and it's something I've wanted to do for the longest time. They're definitely worth the investment since Sunny takes her time to get everything perfect. Would I come back - yes! I definitely want to continue working with Sunny and trying out a new style of nails. It definitely hurts the wallet, but it's worth seeing what Sunny creates for you. read more

I was looking for a new nail tech after moving back to the Bay Area and found Sunny's designs on Instagram. I normally like to have art on my nails instead of a plain color, which is what attracted me to Sunny's page. For context, I had acrylic nails for about 1.5-2 years before I saw Sunny. I didn't really know what hard gel was, but it was clear that acrylic was ruining my natural nails and they wouldn't stay on for very long (2-3 weeks). I messaged Sunny on Instagram and she was able to fit me in for a late slot in her calendar for the appointment. She asks for photo inspiration when you message her. She also provided me with directions and a price quote before I went to see her, and she sends a reminder message to you the day before your appointment. Sunny was very careful in explaining the difference between acrylic and hard gel, and how acrylic was damaging my nails for a long time so it was best to switch. The appointment lasted between 2-3 hours because we had to begin with a whole new set, but it's nice that she has a private salon so it's just you, her, and whatever music she plays on her TV. She will tell you what she's doing as she goes along and she'll always check with you if you like the shape, color, or overall design. I've been back to see her 3 times now, and the reason I keep going is because the retention on my nails has never been better. The green set in the attached photos were all still healthy and strong after 5 weeks. I never had my nails stay on that long before with acrylic. In terms of payment, Sunny does prefer cash and each set I've done with art has come around to ~$120 before tip. I've noticed people say it's on the pricier side but I actually think it's very reasonable for a nail tech with a private salon and for how long the nails last before another appointment. I stopped getting my nails done regularly after being a mom, but I wanted to start getting them done more regularly after getting my nails done in Japan. I've always been into Japanese nails, and I've gotten them done over 15x in Japan. I haven't found anyone as fast and skilled as Sunny, so it was nice that she's located near me. I have gone to Sunny for a while now for my hard gel nail needs, but wanted to write this review to keep things transparent and in hopes that there may be improvements in her services itself. Sunny does a good job with nail art and designs, and I will say that among the nail artists I've tried in the past, she ranks high up there in the list. She's able to replicate almost every design that I've presented to her, and I never really felt unsatisfied with the end result of the nail art. Longevity wise, however, I always found that my nails would lift on my dominant hand, no matter how gentle or how often I wore kitchen gloves when washing the dishes. At first I thought it was something I was doing, but after trying out other nail techs and salons, I never had much of a lifting issue with them. Price wise, she's fairly reasonable for Japanese/Korean nails. Judging based on quality and art alone, 3/5 or 4/5. Service, however, can be much improved. Sunny definitely has an attitude, and I initially took this as just your typical nail tech who's a little sassy, but after going back to her month to month, I just found she just spoke badly about everyone. I've had enough after the last few sessions when the conversations were entirely about her talking badly about other girls. Also, whenever I would ask for a certain nail shape or design, she'd turn the conversation around and make it seem like my choice would end up horribly (and so I always ended up with the nail shape that she preferred). She started to become significantly rough when handling my nails/hands too whenever she was irritated by her clients. I'm giving her 2/5 stars because Sunny does do a decent job. If you're able to completely tune her out or pull up a show, going to her would be fine. I found her based on the fact that she focused on Korean and Japanese style nail art--something that is a bit rare in the Bay Area. The thing that sets her apart from other nail techs I've gone to is that she will help you pick colors that pair well with your skin tone as well as advise which nail shape is best suited for your hands. I've gone thru coffin, round, and square against her judgement and soon realized that the slender almond shape was the right one for me. She uses high quality gel products from Korea and Japan. They last longer, are healthier for your nails, and have a great shine. And I'm proud to say I'm rocking my natural nails! I don't even need extensions after going back to her for my 4th nail appointment and I was an anxious nail biter previously. As long as I care for my nails and use gloves when necessary, my manicure lasts 4-6 weeks (although not recommended to go 6 weeks long). I've been hesitant to write this review because I secretly want to gate keep this. TLDR: Sunny is so good at what she does and cares immensely about your nail bed, post manicure procedures and is extremely detail oriented. She listens. I've been going to Sunny for over to 2 years now. I stumbled across her talents (at the peak of Covid- March 2021) when she was at a prior salon. My first ever encounter with Sunny, she listened to my concerns, didn't over trim my cuticles or push the skin off my nail bed too far back. She is so detail oriented and a perfectionist, I knew after my first encounter I would most likely come back to her. Needless to say, my nails lasted 4 weeks which considering how fast my nails grow is a miracle. Usually regular gel manicures last me 10 days max. I took a break from indulging on nails because I wasn't going into work and didn't see many folks. Fast forward to 2022, I was browsing my Instagram feed and on my FYP I discovered Nail Designs by Sunny. I reached out as her profile at that time offered mobile appointments. When she came over, I immediately rejoiced because I knew she the original nail artist I met in 2021. Fast forward to today, I now go to Sunny regularly (on a monthly basis). Yes it is indulging and can be pricey but my nails have never looked better. Definitely would say that this is now part of my self-care routine and I look forward to my monthly appointments with Sunny! Sunny usually only books out in 2 week increments, so I definitely set a calendar invite when I'm 14 days out. I am so glad I found Sunny by accident! I was looking to get my nails done right before my wedding, and the original nail specialist was fully booked, so I hopped on Yelp and surprisingly found Sunny was so close to me. Without hesitation, I messaged Sunny immediately and I was able to grab a slot in a few -but ladies, don't be like me and wait until the last minute, it was a close call. By looking at how Sunny trimmed my nails, I knew she was the pro for sure! To be honest, she's one of the fewest nail specialists who could get the nice round nail shape that I want, they are all evenly trimmed and the corners look pretty much the same. Sunny also clarified the difference between soft gel and hard gel, and it definitely helped me to understand why my nails were able to stay that long in the past. I've been to see Sunny twice for hard gel on my natural nails and both times have been lovely. Her work is meticulous and large gems and chrome designs have stayed for at least 3 weeks straight without chipping through lab work/going into multiple pairs of latex gloves a day. She is very transparent about pricing so you can DM her about how much your set will be depending on design/Gel X extensions/etc. She can also speak English, Mandarin, and Cantonese (me too hehe) so whichever language you wish to converse in! Her ability to recreate designs from pictures and also to determine how to adapt designs/gems for smaller nails is great, and I've left both times marveling at how pretty and strong my nails are. She's quite busy so I'd recommend trying to reach out to her sooner than when you need your nails done - at least like 2 weeks or more in advance just to be safe. I wanted a recreation of her nails she did on her previous client, it was so pretty and the set was $130 which to me was worth because its beautiful and the service was amazing! I've had so many bad experiences with nail techs doing a fast but poor job and sometimes even painful job on my nails, it honestly made me feel like those experiences were normal or inevitable. But not with Sunny. She's an expert at what she does and was super gentle and caring when handling my nails. She constantly made sure that nothing was hurting me and made me feel very safe and cared for. I was really happy with my nails and got a lot of compliments as well! After a while I got them removed and again she did a really nice job, no pain, and she takes her time so I never feel rushed. Service was incredibly rude. I would ask questions and express opinions about the design I was getting and she would get extremely annoyed while I was calmly trying to explain what I wanted. She was quite condescending when talking to me and honestly I had a really horrible experience. It seemed as if she was in a bad mood and it was hard to converse with her without angering her. Only when I tipped her did she have a 180 attitude change and started being nice to me. When I sat down in the beginning, she kept ranting on and on about how her clients are so frustrating, how people kept canceling, and that she needed to set up a deposit for booking appointments for these "annoying" people. I sat there listening to her complain for the first hour or so. It appeared that someone else had canceled on her last minute before my appointment and she took the anger out on me instead. Very unprofessional. Go somewhere else where you'll get treated better with respect. read more

I only trust Sunny with my nails! I've been seeing her almost every month since March 2022 and I always am satisfied with her results. She is very detailed and RELIABLE. Not only is she great at nails but she knows how to provide great service (she's never been late, always makes sure she gets my inspiration photos beforehand). Sunny is the best! Please see her if you want to get your nails done. I've been seeing her since April 2022 for coachella, and I've been continuing since. She does great work, and my nails last so long! Sunny is super detailed just look at some of my nails that she has done for me. I didn't even know what hard gel extensions were before i met her. My coworkers even ask me where I go, and I refer them to sunny. She always makes sure you're happy with your nails before you leave. You don't get that at a lot of nail salons.
