I recently stopped by Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe and decided to try one of their vegetarian options since I usually order something with meat. Mediterranean food already has a lot of plant-based choices on the menu, so it seemed like a good place to step outside of what I normally get. I ordered a plate with hummus, fresh vegetables, and warm pita. The hummus was really good and easily my favorite part of the meal. It was smooth, well seasoned, and paired nicely with the soft pita bread. The vegetables tasted fresh and everything felt light and well prepared. The restaurant itself had a relaxed atmosphere and the service was friendly and quick. I will say that I personally didn't feel very full afterward, but that's honestly just because I'm someone who usually prefers meals with meat. It's not a knock on the food at all. I eat their soup all the time Seriously it is the best lemon chicken w basmati rice & I am addicted! I buy 2 bowls and take them home at least 2-3 x week! I've eaten most of the food here (the street gyros in the summer I love)it's ALL fresh and good - Lastly , I rarely tip if I'm taking out (& walking into a restaurant myself to pick up ) but the employees are so kind I started adding an extra 15% it is rare today to see this quality of servers in a restaurant. The manager I think is a tall black gentleman and he is one of the kindest managers ever - (I don't know if he's just the general manager or day manager, but I go in there and he is always checking on people he really they're very lucky to have that guy). Tried this cafe while staying in the area. I love Mediterranean food so I was glad to stop in for an afternoon snack to hold my tummy over until dinner time. The inside was very large with plenty of seating. I ordered some hummus and some Taziki dip. I love hummus and eat it regularly but their hummus was very strange to me- on the runny side and very salty with a bit of a spicy taste. Not the usual hummus. Did not enjoy that at all and would not order it again- left the full bowl there because my child also didn't like it. The taziki dip on the other hand was delicious- tasted very fresh. The pita served with both was disappointing- not warm, just cold pita pieces. Since this was just a snack for us it wasn't a big deal, but it didn't make me want to try anything else they offered. read more

A friend and I came here for lunch on a Thursday. It was crowded but service was fast. The service and food were equally great!!! That Greek salad with Salmon was filling and soooo tasty! I placed a pick-up order at this location on a Sunday night, and everything was great! I placed my order on their website and found it very user-friendly. Their website is very clearly organized and allows customers to add any kind of modifications they might need. I only had to wait a moment or two for my food to be ready. In that time, I had two people who worked there check and see if I needed anything. All of the to-go orders are in a marked area, and it was easy to find once I got to the restaurant. I ordered the salmon feast with the roasted red potatoes and a Caesar salad. I also ordered a side of beef that comes with the best horseradish sauce. I will admit my first visit to Taziki's left me very disappointed. Now I decided to return and try a simple Falafel and I was in love! So fresh!! I've returned several times, Their kypelos and Gyros are fantastic! workers inside are always so helpful. Service with a smile. Dining area is spacious with outdoor seating as well. I was Treated like I was trying to steal a free meal when I attempted to use one of their free "daily special" coupons. They said the coupon had all ready been used (which it had not already been used) A friend purchased Taziki's and brought to us because we had a death in the family, included were several free "daily special" coupons. I tried to redeem one and was treated like I was a thief. I even ask to speak to the manager and she insisted the coupon had already been used. (By the way there was no expiration date on the coupon)I have been a regular customer since Taziki first opened. Today was my last time. I will never go back. I always enjoy my visits to Taziki's. At this location, I'm always able to find parking and the staff is always friendly. I mainly get the Friday/weekend pasta special. It is always great. We recently got a catering order with Chicken kabobs, potatoes, salad, pita and baklava cheesecake. The chicken was so tender and well seasoned. The catering order was also ready right when I got there. So there was no waiting. The baklava cheesecake was better than I expected. Overall, we really enjoyed the catering meal and will be doing this again. It comes in handy, especially if you do not feel like making dinner. The price was also very reasonable. read more

For fast food Mediterranean Taziki's is rather good. I ordered online thru Uber Eats and the food was ready as expected. Except the Baklava was missing. My first review for 2024 and again I forgot pictures of my food. Darn! My "eat like a bird" mother has the Greek Lemon Chicken soup and Mediterranean salad. She really liked the soup and ate most of it. Not overly lemon flavor. The pita sections were very dry. The salad is sitting in the fridge. Can't comment on its flavor. It certainly looks good. I had the lamb burger with basmati rice, pita chips and a side cucumber tomato salad. The lamb burger had two thin lamb patties. I thought they'd be dry but I found them moist. My dog thought they were good too. Hard to ignore her puppy dog eyes as they stare at you with unspoken words. "Mommy I ate all my supper and yours looks really good. Pleeeeease!" I would prefer raw onions but the mix of grilled onions, tomatoes, feta and taziki sauce added to the flavor. Loved the light lemon flavor of in the rice. The cucumber tomato salad was ok. It's probably better right after it's made. At least I assume the veggies would be crunchier. The baklava cheesecake awaits my epicurean taste buds. It looks good. I love this place. We used to live in Birmingham and moved away in 2016. Although the menu has changed a little the food is STILL DELICIOUS!! The staff is super friendly and they explained the difference between the menu from before and now, so I could get the same delicious lamb plate as before. The ambience was nice because it was close to closing, so it was quiet. They didn't rush us to get out. They let us enjoy our meal. We are enjoying a short vacation and we want to come back before we leave because, unfortunately, we can't get this kind of food where we live in Texas! read more

This is a staple for Mediterranean food in Birmingham. It's a great place to get a reasonably priced lunch that isn't fast food. The service was good for the lunchtime hustle. There was a constant stream of customers, and the food was coming out correct and in a timely manner. It's a good spot to meet a friend for lunch. The menu is accommodating for most food restrictions. Oh, this location is a great option for anyone in the Avondale or Lakeview area. Okay, I am still on the hunt for a gyro that is traditional gyro. Let's just start off by saying I have eaten lamb all over the world. I even cook tons of lamb at Passover and rack of lamb all the time. I eat gyros in California all the time. I have to say, I don't think I ate lamb meat today. I specifically asked for the lamb gyro. Now when I open it up and ate it the meat was so bland it tasted like any old kind of beef. Is it me, when did they internationally decide to change the shape of what gyro lamb is supposed to look like? It's sliced not ground or chopped up. I asked a worker while I was eating is this normally how they slice lamb she went into explain that other places serve lamb gyros mixed with beef but theirs is fresh. I responded "I'm not questioning the freshness of your product but the subject of your product." She was very emphatic that it was lamb not beef! So I decided to spend some more money after I ate. I ordered a side of lamb and a side of beef , ONLY to go! As you can see in the pics below they both look the same in height and overdone .I opened up the package before I left and I asked the server which was the lamb and which was the beef because I couldn't tell. I guess the shape of the Lamb was supposed to identify that it was lamb. I took a bite of each right there in the store. I was not impressed with either one and they both tasted like what I had in my sandwich. I felt that I was cheated. I asked the server is this how it comes if I order a side of a lamb with my salad? Or is this the kebab form? She replied no to both questions. So why would you serve me this form of meat as a side if you do not serve it like this any other way on your menu? If you serve them both sliced in your sandwichs why would you give me this tough chunk of meat sliced and not shredded as it is represented in Gyro sandwiches? You should have seen the huge juicy kabobs of chicken that came out on basmati rice on other customers plates. I feel like they're trying to deceive customers by chopping it up recognizably.(Just my opinion ) At this point I don't even think they have lamb on the menu. So shall I continue.. okay the two reasons I stopped here was to eat and to use the restroom before I drove back to Atlanta. Once again I should have listened to my intuition. I ordered my gyro sandwich then put my number on the table and went to use the bathroom. The bathroom was nowhere to be found because one of the servers said that it's closed because they had a water problem. I questioned what bathroom do they use, no answer?. Then I said, " I just want at least to wash my hands I can hold my potty break until a rest stop". She looked at me shrugged her shoulders as if she could not help me. I asked her,"Well how do you guys wash your hands?" She responded that they have a sink in the back. I then said," Do you have any hand sanitizer?" She asked a young lady to go back in the back and get me a wet paper towel or the hand sanitizer that was in the back on the shelf. I don't know y'all but trying to find quick good food that's not brown and fried in the South is hard. I'm not trying to go to a 3,4 $$$$ restaurant when I have things to do. You feel me? Now that I have had my fair share of Mediterranean food, Tazikis is not consistently my favorite. But this location holds a special place in my heart because it gave me that first Mediterranean food experience that I can remember. That was now over 15 years ago and I still remember how good it was that first time. That is why this location gets a five over what I normally think of as a 4 star experience. This last time, I got the adult feast with the lamp and potatoes. I would normally get the lamb and skordalia gyro. But since I am still cutting as many bready items as I can, this made sense.
