Came back to the OG location for some grub after a late night badminton session. I believe this Nam is now open late which is great! Hadn't been back to this Nam in ages since pre-covid basically. Just glancing at the menu, it seems that they ported the menu from Nam 2 over here too. I ordered the dual smoked rib and braised brisket pho with a side order of lemongrass chicken steak on the side. Mannnn, it really hit the spot for a post-workout meal. Came w/ a ton of protein and the meat was sooo tender as well. I've definitely reshaped my opinion of Nam from all those years back when my friends and I noticed the quality going steadily going downhill for a period. It seems that after opening Nam 2 and revamping their menu, the food quality has actually gone back up at this OG location. A little on the small side but crispy and flavourful. The beef stew was really good. Tender cubes of beef and carrot in a rich stew served with a warm crispy baguette and a small salad on the side. You can also order the stew with rice or noodles. Now the pho. Disappointment here. Noodles were way too soft. They broke as soon as you stuck your chopsticks in the bowl. I ordered the bone marrow and beef brisket pho; the broth was rich and flavorful with a generous portion of meat. Unfortunately, the bone marrow itself lacked flavor. Perfect pho a cold wintery day. Service: Staff are quite busy on weekends and evenings and a numbering system isn't used for the line, but you'll typically get seated in 15 - 20 minutes if there's a line as the restaurant is small and turnover is quick. Food: Every time we've went, we always get the duo beef pho which is definitely enough to share for 2 or more people (for the beef portion), although the pho is on the smaller side. The beef is cooked two ways, which one side being more dry and smokey, and the other being very tender and soft. It's a great combo with the clean pho that is lighter and slightly sweet. The bun rieu cua was also quite light with a hint of tomato and the egg yolk sauce on the crab was nice. The chicken wings are always perfectly crispy and slightly salty and tart, making it a perfect compliment to the meal. Honestly, bomb chicken wings. Nam is a small Vietnamese restaurant tucked inside a discreet plaza behind the gas station. My fiancée and I love coming here for some delicious pho. The broth is deep, rich, and full of umami. What we particularly love most is the option of choosing between fresh or dry noodles for each bowl of pho. We got the former recently, and they were as smooth and silky as possible - really makes for a good slurp! They offer multiple condiments and garnishes typical for pho, but our favourite were the fresh chilis. They're not on each dining table, so make sure to ask for them and add for some extra flavour! Instead of the typical house special (i.e. different meat cuts, raw beef, tendons etc.), we got the dual pho specialty. This variation comes with a scrumptiously tender braised and smoked rib that melts in your mouth. There's enough meat in here for 2 people, so it's well wort the added premium. For starters, we got a medium portion of their famous dry wings and Banh Bot Loc. The wings are fried to perfection, topped with some onions and garlic and comes with a slight sweet tinge. I'd pay for these wings any day of the week - dare I say, the best wings in York Region! You'll definitely regret your decision if you don't get them. The banh bot loc is an interesting chewy dumpling, topped with some pork floss. Not as big of a flavour profile as the wings, but nevertheless an interesting dish. If you can't make it to Nam, there's also a Nam2 in Markham. Or maybe a Nam3 will come to a location near you. But instead of waiting for that, maybe just go try Nam out. The restaurant is located just south of the Shell gas station and beside Fresh Burger. I've heard that the chicken wings are superb. For our order, we got Canh Ga Chien (dry wings) and a large Pho Dac Biet. We came just after the restaurant opened for an early lunch on a weekday, so it did take a bit of time for our order to be made. There were 5 pieces of chicken wings (drumettes and wingettes) with two wing tips, and it came with a lime sauce dip. These wings were excellent. They were incredibly tasty and flavourful, and the lime sauce complimented the wings. We had a choice of fresh or dried noodles for our pho, and it came with rare ribeye slices, tendon, tripe, brisket, and beef tendon balls. We were pretty satisfied with our meal. The only thing was that we found ourselves quite thirsty afterward and into the afternoon. The cook may have been a bit heavy-handed with the MSG. read more

Craving pho that one day at 2pm and because, we were nearby, we came to Nam. Usually we go to their other location so we have not visited this one since pre pandemic. We saw there were three groups crowding at the front and writing their names on the waitlist notepad by the door so we proceeded to do the same. They never called our number and when we went back in 10 min or so, there were lots of empty seats and people just walked in and sat down. Anyway, although a bit chaotic and confused, we got a table and ordered via a notepad. I think tables around the perimeter had a poster on the wall with a QR code to scan for the menu. We got a pot of tea at the table. We ended up getting the pork spring rolls (3 long ones cut in half), the nam smoked beef brisket pho, and a rare beef/beef ball pho. I was very happy with the portion of meat and noodles. The spring rolls came very fresh and piping hot. It had vermicelli and black fungus inside as well so there was a lot of different textures :) Not too sure if I was a fan of the smoked beef brisket... the smokey flavour was definitely present though! I've been to Nam a few times now and am surprised that I haven't left a review yet. This Vietnamese restaurant is located in the same plaza as one of my favorite bakeries, so on a day off I visited the bakery and Nam. Nam is a small restaurant but it receives lots of customers even in the middle of a weekday. We all come in for the promise of delicious noodle soup on a cold winter day. I was hoping to try the hu tieu nam vang, which is something I grew up eating, but they didn't have it available that day. So I ordered the beef brisket pho and a Vietnamese coffee instead. The flavor of the pho broth was very subtle. The flavors were there, but they weren't in-your-face punchy. I appreciated that it wasn't overly salty. The Vietnamese coffee is tasty as always but I never feel like I get enough. It was devoured quickly. I really enjoyed the food at Nam. Ordered take out for a change. We usually come into the restaurant because the food is consistently decent. And even with take out we would say the food is still consistently decent. The spring rolls were crispy when they arrived with a pretty authentic filling. The pad Thai was a bit on the sour end for us but they had a food amount of chicken and tofu. Usually at the restaurant the broths for the noodle soups are all very tasty. The other item we enjoy is the rice dishes. They use authentic Vietnamese brown rice which gives the dish a nice chewy texture. We will definitely continue to eat here! read more

We ordered the house special pho and pork vermicelli. Pho was very low tier... the broth was very bland. There was no depth in flavour. The noodles and beef were good, but because the broth was lacking the whole bowl was very flavourless and made it hard to eat. The pork vermicelli on the other hand was very tasty! Special Beef Pho 4/5 - I find it hard to get pho for takeout, but Nam had everything thought out from packaging the rare beef separately so it doesnt contaminate the rest of the noodles etc. We reheated the broth and then poured it onto the beef to try to get that dine-in experience. The ends were tough to chew though after it got cold. Curry Beef Brisket with Rice 4/5 - beef was very tender and a lot of pieces provided. Rich flavours of curry but very basil forward, so if you dont appreciate basil, this might not be for you! Potatoes were quite cooked and so it was softer as well. Traditional broken rice was used as it definitely was more in bits than your regular jasmine/ long grain rice. Pork and Chicken Rice 3/5 - while the chicken was juicy and tender, the pork was where this dish lacked. It did get quite dry and tough to eat. I would just get the chicken next time. Marinated the same way as well, so in terms of flavour was still good and pleasant. Overall very enjoyable and a good option for take out. It is one of the parents' favorite Vietnamese places, and I agreed that Nam was amazing and super delicious, and you should come try it out. You can see the descriptions of all the items I got to try that day for lunch below. Deep Fried Pork Spring Rolls [GET]: This SLAPS so hard. The pork spring rolls are beautifully fried with a super and crispy outer skin. I think they use rice paper as the wrap, so it's easier to fry and doesn't absorb as much grease compared to typical egg roll wraps. The fillings are juicy and packed with flavors, tons of pork, and honestly you don't even need the dipping sauce. Most importantly, I was surprised by how clean it tasted, not greasy at all. Grilled Chicken Vermicelli Bowl [GET]: Insanely delicious and flavorful! The chicken is super tender, juicy, perfectly seasoned and balanced with good flavors. I love the stir fry scallion on top of the chicken and the peanuts, which added strong and lovely umami from both items. The bowl came with a crispy fried pork spring roll, and they are the same ones we got for appetizers. They are delicious, so say less and just order them. Vermicelli noodles are nicely cooked and fresh. Overall, it is slightly on the greasier side, but it is doable for me. Shrimp and Pork Dumplings [SKIP]: One of their favorites and my first time trying it. The interior fillings consist of small chopped up pieces of shrimp and pork in a red-ish orange color. The flavors were good, but I think the dough was too overpowering the flavors of the fillings, so it tasted a bit bland. The dough was too thick and way too chewy, like mochi but 5x chewier. Located in a shopping plaza in Richmond Hill, and the atmosphere and interior design exceeded my expectations.
