Some rolls are half off and so are a few beverages, like hot sake. I had never had hot sake. I've only had any sake once. I liked it fine, but I didn't want a second order after I finished the first. I was disappointed that Robata was out of plum wine. Instead I ordered what was described as a white sangria, but it tasted more like a brandy. I had a few sips and gave it to my friend. I had 4 vegetarian sushi rolls. Only the asparagus was included with happy hour. My 3 other rolls were takuan, pickle plum and BB. As much as I like plum (keep reading), and takuan was a pleasant surprise, and the asparagus was good, the BB, which has tempura asparagus, cream cheese, and sweet soy, was my favorite item of the evening. I was happy to see umeboshi onigiri on the lengthy menu. These were of a good size, but I think it perhaps would have benefitted from a higher pickled plum to rice ratio. (The only time I've had it has been from a food truck and I don't know how representative it is of onigiri.) Each order of food took a while to come out. My friend had trouble getting the server's attention when she wanted to put in more orders. Robata is not a place for a quick happy hour bite. It's going to take a while, especially if you're ordering in multiple rounds like we did. When the kitchen got too busy, my order another roll was denied. That happened well before dinner service ended and it was disappointing. I would have waited a bit longer. But it was probably good to get cut off from sushi at some point. We were a little confused by the bills. My friend may have overpaid (not gotten happy hour price) for some of her items, and there was some question about whether mine had been billed correctly, but in the end we decided that mine was probably correct. Hers, though... we aren't sure. I think I'll return to Robata for the BB roll, plum wine, and maybe something new, but I will be sure to have plenty of time, order a bunch all at once, and check the bill.

As promised in my original review we revisited Nami Ramen to give it another shot. It would appear that many of the issues they were struggling with when they first opened (poorly organized kitchen, incorrect orders, long waits, etc) have been resolved. Surely the reduced crowds have helped though; there was only six people in the restaurant during lunch Thursday. Four more diners would join us during the 45 minutes we ate in the restaurant. The dining room is fresh and modern, and the owner deserves credit for not just recycling the decor from the former House of Wong that once occupied this space. In lieu of individual tables they have opted for long community style tables which, while an admirable choice, becomes awkward when the community doesn't show up for lunch. The optics of the empty community tables made the place feel much more empty that it actually was. We both ordered the breakfast ramen, duplicating our order from the first day that we never got to try. They brought it out in about 5 minutes or so. First impressions were great, a big bowl of broth, full of ingredients and topped with a good serving of bacon. We dug in with our chopsticks and spoon and began to eat our lunch. The noodles didn't appear any different in appearance or taste than the ramen that I savored on many late nights in college. The bacon was billed as thick cut and smoked, but was neither. The poached egg promised on the menu was soft-boiled and oddly discolored. I will not speculate as to whether it picked up its grayish color from the broth or elsewhere. It was alarmingly unappetizing. The broth itself, as many have noted in these reviews, is disappointingly simple. One fun surprise did come during the meal; went to get a napkin to wipe my face with and there was a live spider on it. A brief warning for those who are not proficient in the use of chopsticks, Nami does not offer forks, so you might want to bring your own or dine somewhere else. As a relative novice myself, I wound up with a lot of broth splash on my dress shirt that I got to wear around all afternoon. The stains on my shirt were an uncomfortable reminder of an otherwise forgettable meal. Clayton offers a dynamic lunch scene with a hoard of hungry workers and a cornucopia of options. It is remarkable that at $17.69 for my lunch and a diet coke, Nami is the most expensive casual Clayton lunch option I have been to. Nami was a highly anticipated addition to the lunch scene during the later half of 2015. As it stands now, it doesn't appear that Nami will make it through 2016, leaving Clayton employees left to dream about what great new lunch place will occupy the coveted corner at 46 N. Central. Here's to hoping that it is a place with delicious food, a lively atmosphere, and forks. read more

Went last night with my kids to eat after having had an amazing culinary experience at the pop up event they had a few months ago. The food was night and day different. While the food at the pop up was amazing, the broth was rich and creamy and the noodles and egg were cooked to perfection, the food I received last night was mediocre at best. The broth for the signature Tonkotsu (which is supposed to be the specialty) was watery and greasy with almost no flavor at all and the noodles were like rubber. The egg was completely cold and overcooked, much to my disappointment. I also ordered the pork belly bao, which came to me cold and chewy. On top of the food, the atmosphere was incredibly tense for the restaurant being almost empty. The gentleman, who I can only assume was the chef, was talking to the other people in the kitchen like they were his dogs and then standing in the corner just glaring at all of them. I don't know what they could have done that wrong, other than the food being terrible, but if he knew already the food was bad, isn't it his job to fix it? It was a sad day all around and I sincerely hope they get their stuff figured out because if they don't they might as well move over now for the new ramen places that are supposed to be opening in a few months. I hope the new places won't be as much of a disappointment as Nami is. read more

I order signature Tonkotsu ramen. Honestly $15(14.99.with tax) for Japanese ramen way too expensive. Whole bowl is no taste. I mean look like Japanese ramrn, but don't have Japanese ramen taste. The soup taste like water. Noodle like instant noodle. The boil egg don't have taste (The egg after boil need put in the "sweet soy sauce" over night, so the egg can be a little sweet and salty). Pork belly is overcoked (supposed to be tender) and there is a straight line stick on the pork belly!! (I know pork need use line to tied up and put in the water boil, after boil need to slice, before slice the pork need to clean up the line!!). read more

One word: DISAPPOINTED! We went to eat for dinner & on walking in someone working there said "sorry guys there's no more noodles" (odd for a place that mainly sells ramen), but they still had other items on the menu. So we walked up to the counter to order & while waiting for 5 minutes for the people in front of us to order, the person at the cash register said "sorry guys but we're not serving anyone else. The people in front here are the last." We then walked out hungry & upset. I was really looking forward to this place since it's a new ramen Resturant (something I've been waiting for St. Louis to have for ages). read more

I dropped in on a Saturday evening and ordered the **Shroomed Up** ramen, and it was a ramen masterclass in a bowl. The broth managed to be incredibly rich and deeply savory-sweet all at once, without ever feeling heavy.
