Don't be fooled into thinking this is a local family restaurant, it's just a Saltgrass Steakhouse rip off. We stopped here on the way from Houston to Austin for dinner. Yes, it's a better choice than most of the options on the side of the road, but it's still just another chain. We were sat right away on a Friday night, but it took a long time until we could flag someone down for service. Once we got a waitress, service went smoothly. The food options are a complete deja vu of Saltgrass steakhouse down to the names of the items. I had the hickory chicken and started with baked potato soup. The chicken was fine as was the soup. My sidewinder (side item name here and at Saltgrass) were the onion strings. They weren't good; they tasted like they came straight from the freezer and into the fryer. That might be the case in many places but they shouldn't taste so stale. The real Saltgrass (which I'm not even a huge fan of) executes all of these items a little better. The best thing I had the whole evening was the bread and sweet butter we had before the meal. Stop here if you need dinner as it is one of only non fast food options around, just don't expect much and you'll be fine. read more

Stopped in after a long day in the sun. I had looked in advance at the prime rib and wanted it. I ordered the stuffed jalapeño and was impressed, never had a Cajun style stuffed pepper, not bad not bad at all gave it a different taste and spice kick. Then of course I ordered the prime rib, medium rare. It come with a salad either ceaser, side or salad bar ( must sanitize and use gloves). Ordered the green beans with the steak. Stopped at Nancy's passing through Columbus. There aren't a lot of healthy options on the road, plus options that accommodate my son's egg and dairy allergy, but Nancy's was able to accommodate and the food was excellent. I had a chicken breast and broccoli with no butter, and the salad bar is great. For my son, he had a burger cooked perfectly (we bring our own bun) and since he couldn't eat their fries (cooked in the same oil as other fried foods), they were able to offer delicious a strawberries. We have dined here more than 20 times. For several months we have enjoyed the food and great salad bar. The last few times we have been disappointed. It feels like the Manager is absent or the manager's mind set is not to train the staff and be customer friendly. Regardless, it is a less enjoyable atmosphere. We were happy to find Nancy's earlier this year and have been several times now. Each time though, something is not right with the food. Each time we also say were not going back, but there are just so few places to choose from and we do like the salad bar at Nancys. The food is a different issue though. Theres always something weird with their food. This last time it was the worst. They actually served us rancid bacon on the cheeseburger. It was disgusting and unhealthy. Treated myself for my 70th birthday. Lived in Columbus for 15 years and this was my first visit. Restaurant was nice and clean, with a lot of beautiful paintings with a few monitors showing sports. Ordered 10oz prime rib with 4 grilled shrimp, salad bar and side of french fried onions. Prime rib was perfect, medium rare (pink inside), tender and juicy. Came with three dipping sauces, au jus, horseradish, dill (??) and ketchup for the onions. Grilled shrimp came on a separate plate over dirty rice. Salad bar was a disappointment - very little to chose from and the homemade blue cheese dressing was terrible. If the were any blue cheese chunk, they were on the bottom because the dressing was as thin as oil & vinegar. French fried onions were great (thin sliced without too much coating), except they came on the same plate as the prime rib and the bottom half turned soggy after soaking up the meat juices. Ended with bread pudding for desert. Wished the shrimp were on the plate with the prime rib (without the rice) and the onions were on the separate plate. Service was outstanding! Kept coming by to check how I was doing and offering iced tea refills, there again they weren't very busy. read more

They over charge your credit card! To be CLEAR we do NOT recommend Nancy's Steak House!!! STAY AWAY They changed their menu and didn't have what I always order. Our waiter hardly ever came to our table. Then they swiped our card 3 times and came back claiming that it was declined. Our online statement said there was clearly enough money on the card. They failed to tell us that they swiped our card 3 times so we got charged each time they swiped it. We told him to swipe it for less than the amount of the bill and we would pay the rest in cash. He came back again saying that the card was declined. Then he tells us they had a card just like that earlier do the same thing. So my fiance had to leave me at the restaurant and go across the street to an ATM and use the SAME card and pull out the same amount of money and come back and pay the bill. We won't be back and neither will our family members. Update: I checked my statement again and they over charged our card all 3 times! Each time they over charged our card by $10.00 more dollars than the original amount or the amount that they told us they were charging. Even when we specifically told them how much to charge the card for and we would pay cash for the rest they still ran it for $10 over the amount that we stated. P.S. It was just me and my fiance so there should not have been any gratuity added to the bill. If our card had not been declined they would have gotten $10.00 extra dollars on top of the price of the meal and a tip. When we called the restaurant back and asked to speak to the manager she was rude and condescending and just flat out didn't care and denied everything. read more

Nancy's was our midday stop on a trip to San Antonio. The salad bar is small but looked edible. My potato soup was thin with too few actual potatoes. My steak was cooked ok, but the quality of the meat was poor. Several bites were chewed and returned to the plate. Our appetizer was a non event....we even forgot what it was. Extremely gross note....we were first of all seated at a dirty table. Then we opened the menus and they were smeared with food and the inside was full of crumbs. We should have walked out before ordering but we wanted to give this place a try. BIG MISTAKE!!! Very disappointed!!! My husband ordered the Cowboy Steak, medium-rare, and it was over cooked and served on the same plate with sautéed veggies so the juices were all running together. My husband gave me a piece to try and I couldn't get my fork in it. My salmon was not much better. The crawfish in the topping was rubbery, like pencil erasers. We arrived for dinner on Sat. night with our party of four Aggies & requested a table near a TV so that we might watch the Aggie football game. The hostess was very accommodating. Our server, Jose, was attentive and helpful throughout our meal. We enjoyed the delicious sirloin steak and super-fresh salad bar. Pretty decent spot to stop if you're traveling from Houston to San Antonio. Really clean restaurant for the most part. Don't think you're coming into some 5 star steakhouse because it's mediocre at best. I ordered the boss top sirloin which was average, it came with a salad and garlic mashed potatoes. The steak itself was cooked medium rare like I asked but it wasn't seasoned or the seasoning they use wasn't good at all. The salad bar came with multiple topping to choose from so that was a huge plus. Service wise: I arrived at 7:30 and ordered our meals around 7:50 ish. Or server was really slow, non attentive to us but luckily is was a slower night and there was a waitress that was eager to help us. Our food arrived 35 minutes later, which is a long time if you ask me! Overall if you're starving then stop here otherwise, just keep heading down I-10 until you reach a better "well known" steak house. read more

Recently spent three days in Columbus on business. Stayed across the street so the first night went over because it was convenient. OH so glad, because it was so good, ate there all three nights!!! The salad bar was outstanding. Had Snapper Columbus the first nice-delicious then Sirloin the next two nights, which was perfectly cooked MR and seasoned nicely. My bill was around $15 each night. I happen to find this steakhouse right off 71 south and wanted to try the potatoe soup and Italian margaritas. I also order a salad which was so large. I started to eat the potato soup very good but loaded with calories. The salad was wilted with the aged old refrigerated smell I left most on the plate didn't eat it. The Italian margarita was not your typical drink strangely it was a cross between a mojito and margarita , yes I drank it. Too much of a odd combo. I decided that this is not a restaurant I want to return to. The pros is the nicest waitress Rosa lovely personality. But actually Nancy's restaurant is not my bag. There are hardly any good restaurants on this stretch of 71 rated it a two star reason could't find any reason to rate it higher a typical franchise in my opinion it was a clean establishment with low grade food high prices for food that is served like a fast food chain. Used to be a pretty good place to dine, but has gotten terrible in past few years. My wife ordered the 10 oz. Ribeye the other night. The steak was about the size of a hash brown patty and about a half in. Thick. My wife ordered in rare so that it wasn't on the grill very long to shrink. I have had much better steaks at golden corral. For a 22 dollar steak it sucked. This is not the first time this had taken place, but thought we would give it another try. We've been eating here since it opened years ago. It used to be very good. It's gone downhill recently. Salad bar is barely half what it used to be- not much on it anymore. Schobel's down the street has it beat by a mile. Last night, 6pm Wed. slow time. Server told me they were out of green beans. I got dry crispy broccoli with my pork chops. The pork chops were dry and over cooked. They had those fake grill marks on them, like Denny's. Our server was annoying, at our table very 5 minutes, interrupting our conversation with"is everything okay?"., as if we are there for her. Interrupted our conversation again when she asked twice if I wanted my plate removed. "Leave us alone...it's not bothering me...like you are." (Well, that's what I wanted to say). It's a pretty good steakhouse option and as good as most chains. The menu is very broad and has a variety of options above and beyond steak. I had a pretty decent grilled chicken topped with Monterrey Jack cheese, mushrooms, and BBQ sauce along with a side, a trip to the salad bar, and a roll. Especially in a town with limited dining options, Nancy's hits the mark food-wise. Here are the two things that hold them back slightly. First, the prices are slightly high for what you get. For the non-steak dishes, it's about a dollar or two more than I'd have expected, but the steaks can get pricey quickly. Secondly, at the price point, the service can use some help. We had a new server who was completely unfamiliar with the menu when taking our order. Even with an experienced server with her, they still had to come back to confirm part of the order, which enabled them to catch their error. However, it's still a good option for the area and there's bonus points for self-serve soft-serve ice cream. read more
