The portions were large- we definitely could have shared my Tulum plate, which was fresh and way more than I could have eaten.

So this is a nice change. I had their chicken tortilla soup and it hit the spot! I am over eating terrible now that the Christmas holidays are over and needed something with vegetables! Enjoyed the soup filled with squash and carrots! They even served it with a side of rice so you could add to taste. The booths are large so you can easily sit 6 people. I love the kids menu had plenty of options. The only thing they were lacking was aguas frescas. My family has stopped here two other times but this is my first. I'll definitely have this place on my stops if we're hungry. My parents had some shrimp fajitas with veggies (they also wanted veggies) and I saw they cleaned their plates. My husband had the lazy plate I believe and said he enjoyed the empanadas.

The steak chimichanga was greasy and could've been way better if it had onions inside of it instead of just chopped up meat. The rice was hard with little flavor. The tacos were just ok. The chips & salsa was ok & queso was good. No, I most likely won't stop here the next time coming back or going to Texas.

The food: where to even start.....I hit the jackpot here. The salsa tasted like it was freshly made and served warm, so so good. The refried beans (which I don't typically order) were hands down the best I've ever had. The enchiladas were top notch, full of flavor and not overly salty. Honestly, I have nothing negative to say, it's a must try when in Bastrop!!

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING -- BEST MEXICAN FOOD ANYWHERE…read more If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I've traveled all over Texas and across the U.S., and I can say without hesitation that Las Cocinas Mexican Grill is hands-down the BEST Mexican restaurant I have ever been to -- and that includes all of Austin. My family and I come here several times a week, even though we don't live close by. That alone should tell you how incredible this place is. Must-try favorites (do NOT skip these): The Margaritas - Very strong and absolutely perfect. Order them half & half (half on the rocks, half frozen). Trust me -- you'll thank me later. Nachos Al Carbon (Appetizer) - The beef fajita meat is out of this world. Tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. Beef Fajitas Cremosas (Entrée) - Get them with EXTRA sun-dried tomatoes. Oh. My. God. I have never had anything like this in my life, and it's something I crave several times a week. Stuffed Jalapeños - So good I sometimes order them as my entire meal. And the onion rings they're served on? Easily the best onion rings I've ever had anywhere. Beyond the food, the staff is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like family -- warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy you're there. That kind of service is rare, and it's one of the many reasons this place is so special to us. And yes -- I always forget to take pictures of my food because I eat it before I remember to take photos for a review . That should tell you everything you need to know about how good it is. We are incredibly thankful for Las Cocinas. It's not just our favorite Mexican restaurant -- it's our favorite restaurant, period, and the best in the entire area by a mile. Perfect in every way.

Short version: great food, fun atmosphere, excellent service!…read more This is a friendly bar and grill located in small town with excellent food and service. I started with an order of chips and salsa that came with a side of creamy jalapeño and cilantro dip. The chips were made fresh and the salsa had just the right amount of heat. The real star was the dip that was creamy and delicious. I had the steak fingers and fries for my entree. The steak was tender and flavorful and had just the right amount of breading. It was served with a side of country gravy that was one of the best I've ever had. The fries were crispy and hot and an excellent accompaniment for the steak fingers. The menu had a nice selection of burgers and Tex med meals, and they had a sign out front showing the daily specials. From the outside the restaurant doesn't look like anything special, but inside everything was clean and inviting with lots of seating. The staff was very friendly and I was well taken care of. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to!

Every bite of the fajita was followed up by needing to tear the meat apart. Wouldn't have been as big of an issue if the pieces were smaller.
