It was my first time visiting this location or any Nando's in many years, and I'm glad I stopped by. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant; it felt great, and everything appeared very clean. The staff member who took my order was helpful. Since I hadn't been there in a while, I asked for some recommendations. I ordered the veggie wrap and fries, and the veggie wrap was delicious! I was not asked how I wanted the wrap prepared, but the standard toppings were delightful, especially the pickled onions. The fries were also quite tasty. Additionally, my order included grilled chicken and fries. After some insistence, I tried a piece of the perfectly grilled chicken, which fleetingly tempted me to start eating chicken again. Since a few people were waiting ahead of me, the wait was a bit long. The restaurant wasn't very crowded, but customers waiting for their orders along with food delivery pickups created some disorganization in the kitchen. One customer kept complaining about the wait, so the manager eventually came from the back to assist the line staff with packing orders. The food was so good that it was worth the wait! I was very excited to try this fast-casual spot but was quite disappointed by my experience. Nothing worse than being disappointed by portions. I ordered the peri-peri bow, which was filled with rice and a half piece of chicken breast. My partner ordered the spicy chicken pita, which was essentially half of a full pita. They were not serving fries because something was wrong with the machine, which was a bummer. The actual food tastes good but my expectation of leaving full was not met. A long time user of their delicious peri-peri sauces, today was my first time to be able to visit a Nando'a restaurant location. The location was nice, clean, not busy, had nice decor and outside seating. We were greeted immediately by a friendly young girl who asked us if it was our first time, told us how to order by QR code, and gave us a table. Ordering was easy and the staff remained friendly at every step along the way. I wasn't sure as to what type of services tipping might apply, as it's obviously not a tradition table & waiter type of place, but in the end I would argue the attentive staff does deserve a few extra bucks for their help and to support the continuation of their demeanor. Okay, the most important part was the food which was easily delicious. I could eat this for days on end and still want to come back. The chicken and three sides were all fantastic in every sense of the word. Peri-peri, which I first had in Portugal properly, is one of my favorites flavors and spices so the more often I can smother my food in this kind of sauce, the better. based on the five things I tried today I would definitely like to come back and sample some different menu items. I don't give this five stars because of an issue with the bathroom. My wife needed to wait to use the restroom, which is fine, but once the door open led and she was able to go in, she followed an employee who had just finished using the restroom. She came back to the table and told me there was no soap. A friendly man brought over our food by hand and she told him that there is no soap in the restroom. He smiled and said "thank you for letting me know". This was, however, the gentleman who had just left the restroom but didn't have any soap who now was handling our food. She immediately told me "He knows there's no soap in the restroom, he just used it before I did." I cannot guarantee he didn't go back to the kitchen and washed his handssomewhere else but I'll also say we never saw, for the duration of our meal, anyone go into the bathroom and put more soap. This didn't bother nor ruin our experience but I think it's a place for improvement. read more

At first, I wasn't a fan of Nando's PERi-PERi since I don't love meat on the bone (no wings for me!). However, now that I know they are much more than chicken on the bone, I am a fan. Here's why: 1) History: They are a South African brand gone global. They are all over Europe and DC is one of two markets in the USA (the other is Chicago). They support 1,200 South African farmers who grow the special pepper in everything they cook. In addition, they have the largest collection of contemporary South African art. 2) Food: For the price, it's good! They have all chicken products and their boneless chicken breast sandwiches are always great especially the one on garlic bread and coleslaw. They also have a secret hack menu that includes spicy fries and cheesy mashed potatoes. Also, their avocado toast is amazing. 3) Space: Each restaurant is spacious and beautifully designed. In terms of taste, this spot does not disappoint but beware of the tiny portions! Last night I had ordered a chicken livers entree with two sides: rice and macho peas and the portions were SO SMALL! I like the food at Nando's, it's a reliable place for chicken and tasty sides. I haven't been in a while and am not pleased with the service changes. I had to place my order on my phone which was glitchy, had to do it 3 times before the order went through. The suggested tip amount is 15 -25 percent which is nuts for placing an order from your phone and no water brought to the table. Update - after about 10 minutes someone came to ask how l was doing and l asked for water. There was no water to serve yourself, just some kind of iced tea. Food is still delicious. read more

Mashed potatoes were fantastic, and the garlic bread was OMG truly mind-blowing, probably the best garlic bread I've ever eaten. It was so perfectly soft yet crispy, and garlicky and buttery. Hummus was okay, kinda too grainy and dry for me, but the Peri-Peri sauce was good. I didn't like their olives, but then I never liked olives, so that's just me. You alert the staff and they restock the toilet paper but they leave it fully packaged on the opposite side of the restroom from the toilet. They do not put it on the roll beside the toilet. So if you would like to use the toilet paper you would have to unwrap the toilet paper from its packaging and place it on the roll beside the toilet yourself, which is not your responsibility, because you are a paying customer of the restaurant, and not an employee. This is what happened to my wife at this location. She decided not to use the restroom. Unfortunately the next customer in line for the bathroom had to take up the task of unpacking the toilet paper and putting it on the roll. We told the manager about this. He had a blank expression on his face and seemed not to understand that anything was wrong. The staff do not know how to run a professional establishment. read more

Standard Nando chicken dishes. A good place to hang out. I am familiar with the Nando chain particularly their branches in London. It's the first time for me to try their branch in the US. In terms of decor and cleanliness alone, this Nando's would get 4 stars. Except that their second floor dining area is freezing cold. They didn't even turn on the heating. There were guests dining at several tables, so it's not empty. I don't understand why they didn't turn on the heat. (It was 32F outside, it snowed last night.) Their chicken wings (lemon garlic flavor) are fine, if a bit dry. Brussel sprouts are wonderful (side dish). Chips (French fries) are pretty standard. Why oh why don't we have Nando's where I live??? This place is awesome, considering it is basically just one level above 'fast food' (in line with chains like PF Changs or Chili's): you can actually sit and dine, food is tasty and affordable, and there is a fun atmosphere. I visited this Nando's location on my way home to Rochester, NY after having spent Memorial Day weekend in DC. I was with my friend and her 8-yr-old twins. We sat outside, on their extensive patio, which was full of other diners. Most of them were already served and were eating as we were sitting, and their food looked great. The menu has a really nice selection of dishes, different options than what you usually find. The sauces are great and can really elevate your meal, depending on what you get. There are flavors and spice levels for every palate as well. I had a chicken combination of some kind, with a really fresh salad and a fountain drink. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the lack of starchy carb side dish was perfect for me, as I did not want to fall asleep on my way driving home 6 hrs. (I did sneak a peri chip and a spoon of Portuguese rice off the dishes of my friends....just to taste...very good, but your sort of typical standard starches....) I think what impressed me most was how fresh and beautiful the salad was. I would definitely make dinner salads my go-to thing here. When you are dining with kids and you want fast and healthy, I think Nando's is a great option. We had fun and it wasn't rushed or too fancy, and overall price wise it was a really great value. read more

I LOVE NANDOS! It is my lunch go-to. The food is consistently good. I ordered the grilled chicken wrap with plain sauce because I do not like spicy food. I always make sure I get an extra side of the sweet chili jam on the side and I suggest you do as well! I also got a side of fries. The fries are always well seasoned and will have you licking the season off of your fingers when you finish. Nandos can serve as both a chill lunch spot and a casual date spot. Can you say "YUM!" My friends took me out for my last night in DC, and said I needed to try South African food. I had their grilled chicken with this spicy sauce. I'm not into spicy food, but the level of spice was just perfect. Also, their Mashed Potatoes, total star of the evening. I usually love my mash smothered in gravy, but this taste good just as is. During this Pandemic, it's great to see a restaurant adhere to CDC guidelines and care of the guest's safety. Patio is beautiful, and you can see all the beautiful stores and high end shopping near by. Overall, it was a great vibe, we had so much fun, the staff was phenomenal. This is my favorite Nando's location in D.C. because of the patio outdoor seating. Also it's super easy to park here on a Sunday since it's free parking everywhere and the area isn't as busy as the areas where the other Nando's are. However prepared-food-tax is lower in MD and VA soo sometimes I like eating there instead if I'm already in the area haha. Now if you're not familiar with Nando's here's the breakdown: 1) you walk in and tell the host how many in your party and he/she will give you a table number and some menus 2) you walk up to the counter to place and pay for your order, I HIGHLY recommend the Nata's if you like sweets, at least one per person 3) take your glass(es) over to the drinks area to grab your drinks 4) either while you're there or after you put your drinks down at your table, grab your own utensils and sauces for your chicken 5) maybe wash your hands at the wash sink next to the utensils, all Nando's have a washing sink near the utensils and drinks, so you can save yourself a trip to the restroom 6) sit at your table and wait for your food :) They'll do the cleaning of your table for you afterwards Optional* If you paid for the bottomless froyo then stay as long as you want read more

With full disclosure, I'll tell you that my first Nando's experience was in Cape Town, South Africa over 10 years ago, so I have a great connection with Nando's and am super excited to see Nando's in this area of D.C. With that said, I do think their wings are particularly awesome. You really cannot go wrong with any of their flavors, but I recommend medium or mango+lime. I wish their salads were a little more inspiring, but there are many sandwiches to choose from, and even an awesome dessert menu. (Check out the custard or macarons!) Please know Mr. Roy Edmonds is a truly a Nando's PERi-PERi godsend. He is exceptionally professional and should be a Regional manager or at least a General manager. He sincerely knows the value of customer service. He exhibited such professionalism as he listened genuinely to a problem and resolved it expeditiously. I believe it was easy because he actually LISTENED to me and he remembered that I was a frequent patron or regular Nando's customer for years. I really appreciate Mr. Edmonds superb customer service. He is truly an asset to Nando's and he should be recognized for his fantastic managerial acumen. His Mr. Potato Head, of a Regional Manager can learn a lot about Mr. Edmonds integrity and vision in extending amazing customer service. I wish all managers were like Mr. Edmonds.
