While I'm glad that Nando's has expanded it's menu with more vegetarian options, it still has some ways to go. The Sweet Potato Halloumi Wrap had large chunks of sweet potato and didn't mix that well with the halloumi cheese, arugula doused with lemon honey yogurt and sweet chilli jam. I might opt for a bowl instead. The fries were soggy (we got delivery). The Veggie Burger is bland and lacking flavor, it doesn't taste homemade. The Naughty Nata custard was the best part of the meal! It was a bite-size dessert with a hint of cinnamon. The fudgey Dream Triple Chocolate Brownie was decadent and delicious as well! Nando's is a chicken lover's paradise, and wish there were more vegetarian options available.
Petition to have Nando's in California! This sounds silly, but I went to Nando's 2 days in a row for a short trip in DC. Everything was delicious! The chicken is fresh, well seasoned, and I'm not a big chicken girl. This chicken was so well cooked, not dry at all. I love the different variations in spices and the spice bar!! It's always a new adventure trying different sauces. The fries were delicious and well spiced, the chilies shine through. This also has the BEST Mac and cheese out of any other fast food chain I've had. Service was quick, very friendly and attentive. I'm going to Nando's again next time I spot one.
7/6/2026 - 2 stars for the food and -3 stars for the waitress or hostess who was not good and walking around not enjoying her job. I arrived with a party of 3 around and sat down immediately. Given menus and waters. Easy. We tell her when we catch her going by 10 minutes later we have a free app for bread. She told us to go to the cashier to redeem. We do this. We sit back down and ready to order. He's dour in 5 minutes. Another 10 minutes goes by and we wave her down. She takes the menu and we are like we need to order. She then tells us I told you to go the register to order. All of us are like no, you said for the free bread. She then said she told us to scan or go to the resister when we arrived. Again we all said no you didn't. We go to the register and order. 10 minutes later the food is out. We all loved the food. We left no tip. First time I never gave a tip to anyone in any of my world travels. Also, she spoke with such a soft voice she was hard to hear when we confronted her about not telling us. We told the cashier what happened when we ordered and wasted 20 minutes of our time when no one told us what to do. She didn't care as well. Go here for the food, expect bad customer service. See photos of the food and the bill. $55 total and NO TIP! My second time here. First time was a to go order and no issues.
I came to Nando's after the Georgetown basketball game with some friends. It was busy, and we were told there were groups ahead of us. They said 10-12 minutes, but we had to wait outside. Not ideal on a winter day, but we obliged until a group ahead of us got up from the waiting area a few minutes later. It's nice that you can order your food at the table via QR code or at the front counter. When they deliver your food, utensils are not included. Everything is located in a section in the back of the restaurant. The chicken was decent, especially with the mild sauce, but nothing I'd go back for. The fries were good with the Peri sauce.
Saturday, August 2, 2025. 7pm After a very long day, walked 20 minutes here, excited to try South African-influenced food. It's semi casual; you order at the counter, but there's servers. Everything seemed ok, staff was friendly & I said that someone in NYC recommended the place to me. The vibe got weird after I got my food. I ordered the mango lime thigh, crispy brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, pine lemonade. I noticed the dish of mashed potatoes looked like it had been stirred into a spiral. I tried a 1/4tsp & it tasted buttery & okay. I really wish I trusted my instincts. The staff were all standing along the back counter & I felt all eyes on me. There were a few other solo diners & 3-4 groups. It was obvious that the staff was watching carefully what I ate. I locked eyes with a few & the cook on the left. At one point I mouthed to him "How are you?" because he seemed locked in. Every time someone walked by carrying dirty dishes, or from across the room. Felt like they were hiding smiles. Different bites of the food started tasting like rubbing alcohol, something bitter. I had a weird upchuck feeling. I immediately took some (traveler emergency) Pepto & drank a lot of water. I'm not usually sensitive to food, so it was incredibly strange. I cut up the rest of the chicken & taste different bits & the brussels. The first 1/3 of the meal was very normal, so I was confused. I kept going back to the mashed potatoes to mask that taste. I eat a lot of different cuisines - Peruvian chicken, jerk chicken, chili oil noodles, mala stir fries; this food here was def tasting weird. I sat near the back, just a few tables away from the manager on a laptop & staff chatting with her. The whole time they were kind of gathered over there. At one point she gets up and goes to me "Are you okay?"..."How's your food?" (I stayed polite & said fine), checks on other tables. You know the vibe when you just feel like you're being watched? 3 staff, 1 manager & 3 cooks I slowly finished the small plate & noticed an occasional stomach rumble. I know right away that something's not right. It was clear they put some kind of diuretic in the food. Maybe rubbing alcohol? Maybe the food got messed up but they still served it anyway? Let's just say I did not have diarrhea, but my systems were moving & loose. Which isn't my normal evening bathroom schedule, lol. Headed to the restroom and one of the waiters seem to follow me, went into the kitchen door next to the bathroom. I waited at the door & looked back out because it was so odd, he pokes his head back out in my direction, we lock eyes & I looked at him with a "What?" expression. He goes back into the kitchen. When I exit the bathroom, the waiter comes out of the kitchen at the same time. He says good night & was about to start clearing my drinks. I needed to say something - turned around & went back & asked the waiter if they "use liquid smoke in the food" because it got bitter. "Our chicken is made differently maybe it's from the grill." Said that I felt uncomfortable, it felt like everyone was watching and waiting for me to eat. "This place is pretty open, yeah it feels that way." What do YOU think I should I do if I feel nauseous? He said he would get the manager & I can get a refund. The look of fear & guilt on his face! The manager came over, quickly listened, didn't react, said I could get a refund. (Almost a little too quick) While I was waiting at the cash wrap for the refund, I made sure I was in eye sight of the waiter; who sat down near the Manager's laptop; with his head between his knees, then looked up & worried, watching me. So disappointed. I think tampering happens in the food industry more than we know - diuretics & tourists. I filled out Nando's company contact form & sent the incident & my receipts to the DC Department of Health. Would really like some CCTV footage of body language & facial expressions of their staff that evening also.
I've read a lot of reviews prior to visiting D.C. and knew this was gonna be one of my food spots to try and it did prove to be good. On a Friday night we were able to get a table right away, we had great service and got our food pretty quick. I had the chicken breast sandwich with fries and I was also able to try some rice and the sweet potato they had as well. Their chicken is really juicy and flavorful, on a nicely toasted bread with lettuce and tomato. The fries come seasoned with a bit of a Cajun like taste and crunchy and crisp. They have a little great section with a bunch of sauce bottles for you to try and thought that was great for anyone to just be able to add whatever flavor they feel is missing to their food, but to be honest the food is already seasoned and cooked well.
Everything was super yummy including the lavender spiked lemonade. I loved the wings I would order these every time. I also ordered a side of brussle sprouts which I didn't love the ranch that was drizzled on top however the sprouts were really crispy and tasty. The Caesar salad wrap was pretty tasty I wished had a little more flavor.
Walked in And was greeted by the entire team. Food was amazing well seasoned and cooked perfectly . Fav is always gonna be their mashed potatoes. The pineapple lemonade 10s across the board. The garlic bread clt was good i ordered because I was moving too fast and thought it was the one that had the pineapple on it but it's different but it was still tasty. Service was great they brought food to the table and silverware. They noticed my friend had leftovers and brought her a Togo box and bag. And spoke when we left thoroughly enjoyed my experience
We tried this place out, while visiting Washington DC in April 2025. Although we were just 'hungry', the menu was quite appealing and simple. The server (Aki) seated us right away and explained the menu and ordering procedures. The restaurant gives off a modern but simple upbeat vibe. This is family friendly but they do offer a limited menu of adult beverages. Once we placed our order, the drinks came out fast. The food followed about 10 minutes later. We tried several of the sauces but found the hot and extra hot to be our favorite. The chicken was moist and flavorful (even without the sauce). It is the sauce that makes the difference though. My favorite side was their corn and rice. While there, we ate here three times! It was that good. I highly recommend this place during your visit to DC or any of their other locations.
Hip Portuguese chicken spot right across the street from the National Portrait Gallery. $19 gets you half a chicken and 2 sides. Chicken is marinated & grilled to be flavorful & moist and you can add flavor with assorted dips on the counter. Interesting Portuguese sides too. Lots of alcoholic & non-alcoholic drink choices. Order at counter or via scanned QR code. Self-serve non-alcoholic drink station, so this place is hybrid of table, counter & self serve. Place is hopping sorta loud with cute circular booths, tables and even some outdoor seating. If you're wanting grilled chicken at decent prices, try Nando's.
We had 1/2 chicken with mango lime spice and a 16 oz strawberry lemonade to share. We also had fries and an addon of sweet potato with feta. The chicken was so moist with a good hint of mango lime spice rub. They also have many sauces to dip the chicken and fries. The fries was not bad but the sweet potato was much better. The feta added a nice touch and was not too strong.
So good! It's fast service like fast food, but you are served at your table (after ordering at counter) and you get REAL IDENTIFIABLE chicken, unlike fast food. I believe this is a South African chain. This influences the decor, which was a fun cultural setting. GRILLED HALLOUMI CHEESE STICKS & CHILLI DIP was an amazing starter. The texture reminds me of what is called "bread cheese". It is warm and soft but retains a good structure, not melting into a gooey mess. I so wish we had a Nandos near my home area! I ordered a QUARTER CHICKEN (1 leg and thigh). I order with medium sauce, but they offer all sauces in bottles to take to your table. I tried them all and liked hot the best. Very hot was too much spice. Don't be scared they are not as hot as you might imagine. The BRUSSEL SPROUTS were huge! I love Brussels and these were good, but a bit tough, and difficult to cut. I am not sure if that is because of their siE or if they just weren't sauteed long enough. The lemon garlic sauce was really good on them.

What a good chicken dinner in a very nice restaurant. Two legs with two sides is a good way to go. Recommend you try the rice. When you order the spice level you can go milder because they have all the sauces available for you to increase the spiciness. The service was really friendly and helpful. It's close to the Capital One Arena. So its a nice spot before and after an event. read more

What can I say? Nando's is a staple in the DC area. There's a consistent menu so if you've had their food before and loved it, you'll find the same to be true at the Penn Quarter location. This is in a peak tourist area with hotels, a Smithsonian, and other attractions around and it shows with how busy it is. I've had carryout and dined in and there was usually a lot going on and a wait. My meal was tasty so no complaints in that department...remember it's tried and true! On my recent visit (dine in), ordering from the table was a breeze. Staff were nice but there were some misses. Food came out but drinks (bottled and a fountain drink) never did so I had to go and ask for them, which still took additional time to receive. At this point, we were nearly finished. Silverware had run out so we had to ask. This was not at a peak busy time yet still disorganized, at least for the outdoordining experience. Overall, it's a great option for delicious food! read more

My fiancé and I decided to dine in after I picked up my Yelp Elite order (PERI RANCH CRUNCH SALAD). So I stopped in a couple of days ago and ordered 1/2 chicken for myself and 3 thighs for my spouse. As a side, I ordered the Brussels sprouts. My big complaint? Portion sizes and price. The thighs were laughable. On my half chicken, the thigh was a normal size. But on the order of three, I thought they were joking. There were two small thighs, one on each side of a medium-sized thigh (see the attached photo). I asked the server if that was all there was to them and she said yes, so I asked if I could send them back and get three normal-sized thighs. She went back to check and out came a manager. The manager was helpful. She said there wasn't anything they could do about the size, but she said she could send out an extra thigh. That worked for me, so I appreciated her help. The one thing I didn't ask about was the portion of Brussels sprouts. They cost a total of $4.99 and I ended up with five sprout halves. That's a cost of $2.00 per sprout. I know costs are going up, but you'd think the portion would be better. I don't know what Nando's is playing at, but they're going on punishment for a while. I ate at Sardi's a few weeks ago. The prices and portions there were a lot better for comparable taste, and they had more options. That's where I'll be next time I want some roasted chicken. read more
Came here for dinner on a Monday evening and really enjoyed it. Was kinda confused on if we were supposed to wait to be seated or if you order at the counter. The place seemed a little understaffed. But the inside is nice with a decent amount of seating. There is a sink to wash your hands which is nice and lots of condiments that you can take back to your seat. The menu had lots of good options from salads to bowls to just chicken options. I ordered a bowl and loved it. The flavors here are great! The bowl was also very filling! A good amount of food for about $14. Overall I would definitely come back! Yum! read more

I made a quick stop at Nandos with a friend and got the Peri Peri Chicken Bowl. They let you choose the flavor, I got lemon and her, and it also came with rice, bell peppers, arugula, corn and hummus. I also got a side of fries for good measure and it was all delicious. Service was a bit slow but the restaurant was clean and staff were friendly. I would go back. read more

Man, I was walking around this earth saying that I love chicken. I had Nando's for the first time today, and I found out that I've never had chicken before! In 42 years of living in the Frisco Bay area, L.A., Chicago area I've never had chicken like this before. The flavors are off the charts, and I can't help you on which peri peri sauce to have. I tried them all, and they are equally robust in flavor. Don't skip-out on the brussel sprouts. The sauce that comes on them is very tasty. Also, the natas make a great dessert to share. The service was fast, and I really liked ordering from my phone at the table. I gotta go figure out what I'm going to do since I don't live anywhere close to a Nando's. I'm in trouble. read more

Located next door to Shake Shack in the Penn Quarter area. The decor is modern and cool looking. Met up with a former coworker for lunch recently. Can order at the counter or from your table via QR code. We went old school and ordered at the counter. I got the lunch deal - sandwich, side and fountain drink. The sandwich wasn't bad but not filling enough. I'm a fan of the fries. Overall, decent service but somewhat pricey. I probably won't be coming here too often. read more

This place has the best vibe and ambiance. It's located in Penn Quarter and one of Nandos newest flagship restaurant. I was welcomed immediately by the sweetest hostess. She asked if I was dining in or doing takeaway. I chose to eat in and was shown a table near the kitchen. The restaurant is clean and spacious with great energy. Since it was my first visit, she eagerly explained the ordering process. I could scan the UPC code on the physical menu, and place my entree of choice at the table, which is then directed to the kitchen. If you're not tech savvy or uncomfortable to input credit card information on the site the other option is to walk up to the counter. She even brought me a few coupons on Peri perks, free appetizer, and I forgot the other one lol I opted for the Peri Chicken Rainbow bowl. It came with Avocado, tomato cucumber & onion salad, pickled cauliflower, hummus, feta, and superseed crunch, served over Portuguese rice and finished with a lemon & Herb Peri- Peri drizzle. The bowl came out in a timely manner and brought to me by one of the kitchen staff. Presentation wise it was ok. There was a chip on the bowl which I noticed midway. The Avocado was slightly mushy and brown. Chicken was about 3oz and a bit tough, but the skin was tasty. The pickled Cauliflower was the raw type meaning it was hard. I did wish there was more cucumber, and onion in the salad. The feta, superseed crunch, Portuguese rice and hummus were wonderful, and everything married well together. There is a Peri sauce bar. I ended up with garlic sauce and very spicy. All great and one of the kitchen staff cleaned off the table. This entire staff is just so welcoming and nice. I will be back!!! read more
I tried to give Nandos another shot after not eating at another Nando's location for over 3 years, because the only other option close by was Shake Shack and I called myself trying to be a little healthy. Please somebody tell me how does Nandos get away with serving pigeon wings as chicken wings???? These things are so small it is ridiculous and for $10 for six wings actually 6 half wings is hella ridiculous. The chicken livers are very good but the wings are highway robbery. We don't have any Nando's on the West Coast, so when I planned my trip to DC, visiting Nando's was a must on my list. I finally made it on the last day of my trip, and it's located in one of the most vibrant parts of DC. I've tried various versions of Peri-Peri before, but I've always heard rave reviews about Nando's from my English friends. The ambiance here is fantastic--the setup is really cozy. I sat near the counter but placed my order through their website. I ordered Peri-Peri wings with Ranch, a Chicken sandwich, Watermelon Mint Lemonade, and the Naughty Natas. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes, and the Peri-Peri wings didn't disappoint--I absolutely loved them, especially with the ranch on the side. The sandwich was smaller than I expected, but the flavor was excellent. The lemonade was incredibly refreshing; the mint really enhanced the watermelon flavor. The Naughty Natas was a pleasant surprise--absolutely delicious! I loved it. I came with high expectations, and this place truly lived up to them. Very happy! read more

I love Nando's and have been to a few around the DC metro and this one was excellent. They were super busy due to holiday market and even while being so busy the food was great. The only thing I would say is it would be nice to have more chicken and maybe extra veggies in the pita as I seemed to have a lot of dry pita with a side of salad before I got to the actual meat of the meal. Not a complaint just a wish. My teen tried the Mac madness which she liked but not sure it will be a thing for long. Nothing beats the grilled chicken over the fire... yum. We got a great table and the team members went out of way to meet and greet and see to the crowds. It was loud but it matched the night and we enjoyed it. Not far from White House so we walked off our meal and checked out the lights. Great night. read more

Bummed because I always look forward to my visit to Nando's when I'm in DC. It was packed tonight and quite unappealing. Trash around looked messy. I think the staff was just having trouble keeping up with a crowd. Everyone was doing the best they could. My food was just not as good as it usually is and I wait all year for this meal. The chicken was not really cooked enough (not pink!) and not marinated as well as it usually is. My fries were cold. It was very overwhelming very crowded and very subpar dining experience as far as the food goes. Again, I think the staff is doing what they can but it just wasn't running smoothly tonight and the food seemed hastily prepared. read more

I had lunch here recently. I ordered their rainbow bowl with chicken thighs minus the hummus. It was fresh and delicious. The staff was very friendly and the dining room was beautifully decorated. I find their hot sauces too acidic and not very complex in flavor, but that's just a personal preference and not a comment on the quality. I have always loved Nadoo's chicken. They have several locations around DC, and I think around the country. The chicken is really flavorful. This location is new. They recently closed up a store in Chinatown (just a couple of blocks away) and moved into this brand new location. The place looks great! Unfortunately, you need to wait until they work the kinks out before you go. For example, I used their mobile app to place a to-go order for a "Crunch Salad" which is described on their website as: Tomato cucumber & onion salad, feta, crispy chickpeas, PERi pita croutons served over mixed greens dressed in PERi ranch" Absolutely correct. And the flavor was terrific. But when I walked in a hostess asked me if I would be "dining in." I mentioned that I'd placed a mobile order and she asked me to go up to the registers and let them know. They bring to-go orders to them (to place on a shelf for pick up). The mobile app said my salad would be ready at 12:34 p.m. I arrived there at 12:30 p.m. expecting to have to wait a couple of minutes. But at 12:45 I started to get suspicious since other people were picking up to-go orders directly from the kitchen. I asked the cashier to make sure I was in the right place. Again, she echoed the info the hostess gave me. They will bring the order here, and call your name. OK, so I continued to wait, meanwhile watching others at the kitchen pick up their orders and leave. While I was standing there, I hear my name being bellowed from the kitchen and I see a kitchen worker sort of toss a bag on top of the warmer. So, I went back to the kitchen and picked up my order and headed back to my office. I opened my salad, and I was super disappointed that my "chicken breast" was actually only half of a breast. They cut one piece of chicken in half and that's the portion. It was placed over greens, which had clearly been around for a while. (How? The place is brand new.) See the photo below of the disgusting brown Romaine lettuce, including a core. So far, the quality, attention to detail, and the overall operations of the place is lacking. Meanwhile, the owner and someone else who was clearly an insider, kept congratulating each other on the new store. They even commented that since they are right next to Shake Shake, they'll get people who don't want a burger. Thank you Nando's Peri-Peri for SUCH a wonderful meal. I have been traveling in the east coast, and this meal has been the BEST by far! I had a full plate of food, and I ate it SO fast. All the flavors in each piece of food were melting in my mouth. the service was great, and the employees are very respectful! The music and the clean atmosphere made this experience EVEN better!! This was my first time having Nando's. The service was decent, and the place was clean. You can seat yourself and order with their online ordering system, and they'll bring out the food for you. The food came out fairly quickly. The peri chips were not really crispy, it was more potatoey and soggy if you prefer that. It was also a tad salty but paired well with the peri peri sauce. I got the quarter chicken breast with lemon and herb. It was a little dry but the sauce helped. My friend got chicken thigh and it looked juicier so I'll get that next time. The Portuguese rice had good flavor and seasoning but is on the drier side. Overall, the dishes complimented each other and is a pretty fulfilling meal. read more

The wait was very long but i heard really good things about this place. the fries were really good but the chicken was average, my friend recommends the fried chicken rather than the grilled. read more
This was one of my must try stops while in DC for the week. I was super excited till try it and finally got to it on our last day in the city. The food did not disappoint. We got their lunch special of a chicken leg with a side; trying both their brussel sprouts (SO GOOD!) and fries. The service was ok. Food took quite a bit longer than expected and overall the service felt a little frenzied. The restaurant itself has a good feel, not too tightly packed or loud even when full. We'd definitely come again for the food! read more
