So we were searching desperately for a nice Portuguese restaurant in London. We prefer to eat meat more than fish but a lot of Portuguese restaurants focus on fish. The Oceano has both: Fish and meat dishes. I love their black pepper beefsteak. My partner enjoys their spicy chicken. His family visited us last weekend. His parents and his brother had fish and they loved it. It's a very nice family restaurant and very cheap for London as well. Most of the dishes cost less than 10 pounds. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. They don't really have a disabled toilet but the Ladies was big enough for my wheelchair.

I wasn't too sure what to expect from Portuguese tapas but what we got was lots of small plates with (as Gregg Wallace from Masterchef would say) big flavours! We went for variety when ordering. Not all the dishes were five stars but there were some definite highlights - for me it was the 24-month-aged St Jorge cow's cheese which did somersaults on my tastebuds, whilst my guy really liked their beef sandwich. We found the runner bean fritter a bit of a waste but both dived for the last mussel which was served in a small tin and beautifully seasoned. The custard tart which you have to reserve a slice of early as they only make one a night, was actually a bit disappointing - I found it a little too gooey for my liking. Every dish feels very thoughtfully prepared, and it was so nice to feel that thought and care extend to the service here, with a lovely welcome from the front of house who made sure we were happy sitting in the front 'outside but inside' area. Our waiter also took very good care of us, happily advising on dishes and in my case the wines too, as I hadn't heard of many of the grape varieties. So the 5th star is for their charm. A good feed if you're in the area with a very relaxed, rustic feel, but be warned the prices stack up quickly with this type of food! I could easily be persuaded to return though, as I already know which dishes I'd ditch and which new ones I'd order next time... ;)

When I came, they were not busy and sat me right away. The guy who seated me was very polite and explain the whole process to me since I told him it was my first time. I went with the medium sauce on my chicken to play it safe. My food came out quick and the chicken was delicious. It was tender and juicy, the medium sauce also wasn't spicy either. They have other sauce on the side near the drink machine so I tried the hot level sauce and it wasn't spicy either. The fries were delicious, seasoned well and you get a good portion. The garlic bread was fine but next time I'll do double fries. The service by all the workers here are awesome because each of them kept checking in with me that I was having a good experience. In the couple of years I've lived in London I've noticed something in particular aobut Nando's: the locals don't really talk about it nearly as much as foreigners do. When I read conversations by Americans who have spent some time in the UK it is very common to read "I wish there was a Nando's nearby!" whereas I haven't heard that once actually living here. If anything, the most common observation I'm privy to is "It used to be much cheaper!" That's because it's just kind of average chicken. You can add some spice to it if you so desire but that's all you're doing because it doesn't come with any added flavor. The sides that can come along with it like the rice, corn, and broccoli are also absent of much flavor, and getting the chicken in sandwich form doesn't really help much. Also, if you happen to be nearby the Canary Wharf location there is a much superior branch of Chicken Shop literally right next door for the same cost. My fellow Americans, you are viewing this establishment through the sentimentality of your trips abroad. I do not use hyperbole when I say the humble El Pollo Loco in SoCal is an order of magnitude tastier and cheaper than Nando's.

It is so refreshing to have a decent eatery on Bedfont High Street, that isn't a Fast food joint. It has an alcohol license, so is always buzzing. The food is great, and is a mix of Portugese and english food. Having a beer with a cooked English breakfast, when your not feeling your best will soon sort you out after a night out!!
