Beer flight - Honey, Acton Ale, Blonde and Black IPA.

Staying great or getting better - either way a great option for food in the area not to mention the vast selection of room of brews! Flights available to try all the tasty concoctions as well. Service is super friendly and quick. Outdoor seating when the weather cooperates is a great option but nice indoor seating and bar as well.

I'm sure the noise in the main dining room could be off-putting to some. Rather than think of this as a negative, I prefer to think of it as a side-effect to positives such as large crowds even on slow nights of the week in a historic building setting. The fixtures on the ceiling to buffer the noise do help somewhat. I have local friends who say they prefer the food over the beer here, but we enjoyed our beers as much as the food we had (a porter and a raspberry lager). I like their description of foods as being upscale comfort food. That was especially true of the appetizer we got, the crispy polenta bites with greens and mushrooms. I'd not had anything quite like that before. That also goes for the grilled mac & cheese sandwich with short rib and kimchi. I was expecting the sandwich I ordered, the chicken caprese, to be somewhat messy with the balsamic glaze, but there was just enough on it to add flavor without mess. Though while I enjoyed the well-prepared sweet potato fries (crispy on the outside, tender inside), I don't think a ramekin of ketchup for dipping does the side justice. I should have perhaps asked if I could get a ramekin of the balsamic glaze, or perhaps offer a couple of dipping options. Parking can be a bit tight at busy times, and it was disappointing to see a few cars in the lot take up 2 spaces. Please don't deny space to folks who want to come here.

Rapscallion in Acton is a staple for my wife & I. It's our anniversary spot, our Valentine's Day spot... and basically where we go for any special occasion. The quality, the service & the atmosphere keep us coming back. This particular time I ordered the scallops & grits, while my wife got the steak frites. Both entrees were solid and very generous in portion size. Both proteins were cooked perfectly and the sides were all nice and complimentary. We also got the mussels, and a special they had for this particular evening. Now - this particular special they had... I will tell you - no lie - this might have been the best thing I've ever had at Rapscallion... SHRIMP. BISQUE. That bowl of bisque... it can't really be described. I just hope if you make your way here... I really hope they have it again so everyone can experience. That's all my wife and I talked about the remainder of our dinner. Rapscallion is great, and overall I'd always recommend it for a date night, family get together, or any gathering with friends or family!!

I give the benefit of the doubt only once. A bit of background: Last year, I took my family (party of nine) for dinner at this establishment. After eating and ordering desert and all, I asked for the bill. The bill came and the wait person brought me the credit card machine with the tip choices on top. I chose 20% and paid and we all left. Later I was thinking that the bill was more than I expected and then I thought--perhaps they charge me service upon which I also tipped. All in all a 40% tip. That was my bad for not having properly checked the bill and I take responsibility. This year, we went back--same party of nine-- and had lunch. This time around I checked the menu where with the smallest font possible it indicated that there will be a 20% surcharge for party of six or more. Once we were done, I asked for the bill and the wait person, again, brought me the credit card machine with the choices of tip right in top, placed the machine in front of me and left... no word of warning about the 20% charge already on the bill. I check the bill and in fact a 20% surcharge was added. I think if you are going to charge extra--which I can tolerate and with which I have take no issues -- it is incumbent upon you to tell your customer that a 20% surcharge has been made--just so the customer is aware in case they have not studied the menu form top to bottom including the very fine print I think it would be courteous to do so and failing to do that it appear like an active effort to mislead and take advantage of a customer who perhaps was too preoccupied with friends and convention to do a study of the bill and/or the menu. I don't care if your food is good and cooked to the proper temperature I don't care if you brew your own beer and I don't care if overall the food is good. I dislike being maneuvered. Further--I had ordered a side of fries which came very late at the end of our meal... I sent it back because it was too late and they still charged me for it. Really... for $4? Anyways if you are going to this establishment make sure you are on your toes and study all written material because you are on your own and if you make a mistake no one will be tell you otherwise. ----------- In response to the owner's comment below, I am adding this edit since Yelp does not allow me to respond to the comment made by the owner: Hi Peter-Thanks for the quick response. I can tell that reviews matter to you and I appreciate that. I think you missed my point. I have no issues with leaving a tip. 20% is reasonable and I have no issues with it-as I mention in my review. What I objected to is the fact that I was not notified of the addition and the CC machine was presented to me on the tip page without more... inviting an assumption that a tip is welcome even tho a surcharge has already been added to the bill. I am not now nor in my review asked for a refund. In a nutshell: let your customers know if there is a surcharge ether at the start of the meal or when the server hands the CC machine to the person who is paying. That's all it takes. Have a nice day.

    Pork belly bites appetizer

Had been a while since I was here. The last time from what I remember it was good. This time not so much. Upon arrival first question was of we had Overpriced for mediocre food, to be honest. Had pork belly bites, clam chowder, side of parmesan cheese risotto and fish and chips. Never have I ever got fish and chips where I needed to use a knife to cut through it. Another patron had the fish and chips and we just assumed maybe he had it cooked more. Not the case. Pork belly bites were good, I did like the combo of arugula and pickled onions. Clam chowder was not the best I've ever had. Wasn't super creamy, had more of a opaque milk like look and consistency. Wouldnt go back. Just a personal choice. Service was fine, no issues with bartender. Very attentive.

Amazing food and awesome service. The staff was nice and friendly. The ambiance was also beautiful. We went there to celebrate my husband's birthday and he had a blast. We tried their mushroom ravioli and Eggplant Parmesan. We also had a few Appetizers but didn't get photos of those because we were too hungry. We had their Appetizers with burrata. Last but not the least the dessert oh my God so yum. The chocolate mousse is a must try dessert.

Dinner on our way back home from a late doc appt for me. We like it here! We sit in the bar area at a high top for two. The waitstaff is always friendly and quick. The beer selections are good and they have a full bar menu as well. Tonight I had Fra- Diavlo shrimp & sausage and it was yummy. If you're in Acton or surrounding then plan a visit to Rapscallion. You'll enjoy everything about the place.

Nice cocktail and the menu. Patio was excellent!

Our server came promptly and got our beverages quickly. After that, not so good. Our food took longer than we thought it would, since the kitchen wasn't busy. After it arrived, we were very disappointed. The burger was well-done instead of medium, and had cheese, which was NOT asked for. The "TOTS" that seem to be a popular item tasted like Ore Ida tater tots, were cold, and there was no condiment service (salt/pepper) on the table. Carnitas tacos. Hmmm. I expected the corn shells to be crunchy, but they were moist, and the filling was a drab lump of something gray. Cold as the tots. My small order had 8 pieces with a very thin coating of Buffalo-ish sauce-- not as spicy or as vinegary, but reasonably piquant and tangy. Not much crisp, but extremely plump and juicy chicken meat underneath. So a mixed bag of flavor and texture, but overall, good. -- True West Burger: Sort of a thick burger, sort of a brioche bun (closer to a better, fresher McDonald's), with vegetation significant part of it. Choice of cheese. Cooked to my requested medium rare, yielding juices. Overall, good burger for its class, though for $22, maybe it should be compared with classier ones. -- Fries (included with the burger): Frozen, somewhat artificial tasting, and a coating of some sort that held in the heavy dose of salt (like pretzel sticks), as if salted even before frying. -- Beers: Plenty of styles and plenty within each style to choose from. I really enjoyed my peachy Pit and Peel New England IPA and liked the Ruckus as well. Service was outstanding. My server Mariana was outgoing, very familiar with both the food and drink offerings, and checked back often. This was probably the determining factor for this tossup between 3 and 4 stars getting nudged to the 4. If it were an option, more of a 3.5. And if you're similarly torn, having some of the best ice cream in the state a few doors down afterward at Westside Creamery might tip the scale for you (literally and figuratively).

Such is the case with Tree House Brewing Company started in Brimfield, MA and moved to Charlton, MA. Their legend is built of the juicy New England India Pale Ales (NEIPAs) like Julius, Green, and Haze. People had me try the cans of these before and not surprising to me, I didn't like them. That didn't stop me from going to the newer Tewksbury location to try it out. This is the old clubhouse at the Tewksbury Country Club, which is outright beautiful with wood paneling and designs everywhere. Its massive halls are filled with golfer bros, work outings, and generations of families. My measuring stick at a new brew spot is to try at least four beers I like. With Tree House's massive selection of flavors including sours, ales, pilsner, stouts, seltzers, and distilled spirits, it was not hard to find. Even though the servers looked at me strangely when I removed the entire IPA page from my line of vision, they did help me find the less hop-forward beers. Here are the beers I had: *** Human Condition Nitro Stout *** Easy Does It Pilsner **** Enduring Relief Rye Beer **** Catharsis Porter *** Mom's Ray of Sunshine Extra Strawberry Peanut Stout . Julius (with Peach & Guava) What I really came here to try was the *** Pepperoni Pizza (7.3) Order this thing BEFORE any beer, it takes them quite a while to make. A lot of pictures from several sources made it look like my style, and it is that thin crust with little flop and enough flavor in the toppings and sauce to carry the bread. The toppings were good, the sauce was tasty, BUT the crust of the pizza disappointed me this time. Once you've invested in the pizza, it started to taste like great toppings on cardboard - no other way to describe it. The first pieces when hot were pretty good, but as it cooled it got harder and harder to eat. The score might have been high 8's or low 9's if the crust didn't bother me so much. Overall, it's a beautiful spot in the middle of Tewksbury and the brewery is legendary for a reason. It truly caters to the beer officianados and world travelers, after white collar work crowd, and the golfing buddies. It is limited in its offerings and I'm used to breweries offering many more food options, so like I said, it's not for me. Be well, eat well, and thank a farmer.

I wanted one with vodka sauce but I'll have to wait to try it when my husband goes with me. They have a draft beer bar and a cocktail/mocktail bar in different areas. This is a good cheeseburger, period, and a very good one. The first thing I really like about it is that it's a thick, full-size patty, and not the overexposed smashburger that's made the thick ones nearly extinct. The second is that they understand and deliver on the concept of textural contrast: crusty exterior and pink, very juicy interior. They also season it just enough to notice, butter that griddled bun just enough to notice, and don't screw up the vegetable additions. The cheese is there but unremarkable. The bun is soft and flexible. Overall, one of the best burgers in MetroWest and Worcester. -- Fries: The frozen variety, neither great nor horrific.
