Do not go here, outside of the workers- the mangers are mean people. They think they can talk to you however they want. We had an issue with our moped and called the place numerous times. 8 times to be exact between me and my buddy. The manager who picked up the phone, (already in an attitude) gave me lip about me only calling "twice and not a hundred times." We payed $200 per scooter which we couldn't ride for even an hour. We had to fight to get our money back. Do not go here unless you want a headache and a sour taste in your mouth. These people need a reality check and to not put people below them. I feel bad for the actual workers there that have to stand outside in the heat while the mangers stay inside under fans in their fancy clothes. Do NOT go here!! read more

I go to Nantucket once a year for the day and every year I rent a bike from here. This year I went to leave my final destination and my key snapped in half which left it impossible to unlock my bike from the stand. I called the bike store, they came about 30 mins later. Since I was now cutting it close to my ferry time I asked if we could catch a ride which they said no. My husband and I then got back late to the bike shop and the "manager" was a totally Jack ass and basically accused me of breaking the bike lock even though I did nothing wrong and literally just tried to unlock it. This man was a total jerk and I will no longer be using this shop even I come to Nantucket every year. I did nothing wrong but try to unlock my bike and this jerk tried to pin it off that I screwed something up rather than taking responsibility that this was an old lock that needed to be replaced. A simple sorry would have been sufficient but the way this man made me feel Is unacceptable in terms of customer service. In the future I'll just use the bus. Cheaper and no jerks. read more

Not an enjoyable experience. The bikes my wife and I rented where in bad shape, front tire was flat, rear was completely bald. Bike pulled to the left constantly and handlebars rotated. Baskets were held on by rotted leather straps. The lady behind the counter was very rude and not interested. I recommend using the place right next store, they seems a lot friendlier. read more

Wanted to rent bikes for a 2 day trip. I first tried using their online rental service. There was an option for delivery so I thought that'd be great logistically - once filling out the form I noticed there was nowhere to enter the delivery address... upon calling to confirm they said their online forms weren't working!! If I hadn't called bikes would have never shown up!!! After three separate phone conversations and having to give my credit card information twice (red flag) our bikes were delivered a half hour early (we weren't there and they required signature so they had to come back and there were issues with both bikes. One had sticky gears, we were afraid the chain would fall off, and the other bikes seat was unstable even though it was locked in fully. The saving grace was a sweet gentleman who we dropped the bikes off to after our Rental period was up. Charles was so kind and assuring - it's too bad the rest of the experience was so poor. read more

Rented a couple of mopeds here on a pretty cold, windy Saturday afternoon in April. Experience could not have been smoother. The guy at the front desk was very patient and gave us some riding tips. He also had us ride around the block once just to make sure we were ok. Single-seater equipment were Yamaha Vinos that were in decent shape. Definitely recommended and would return next time we're back in Nantucket. read more

He and the rest of the team gave us great instructions and he had me go around the block twice I before my 11 yr old co-pilot climbed aboard. The result? I felt confident and safe. Good staff. Bad bikes. Didn't have the size I reserved and the bikes we received were beat up and old, although quality brands. Also, the island is an extremely unfriendly biking environment. My husband and I rented two bikes and a cart for our large dog for the day after a last minute decision to rent bikes to see the island. NBS employees were very helpful in making sure our dog was comfortable in the cart and that the bikes we rented were a good fit for us. This place is dangerous. My husband and I rented a moped and set out to explore the island. What we did not get was (1) a warning about how to sit so my leg would not be near the exhaust and (2) a recommendation for a route that would avoid the cobblestones. This ride left me with a large second degree burn on my leg. I was unable to walk for weeks after renting the moped from Nantucket Bike Shop. My boyfriend and I plus another couple of friends rented mopeds from this establishment over the 4th of July weekend. We had a lovely time. The staff was helpful and informative, making sure we knew how to drive and ride before taking off. We had no issues the majority of the day and drove around the entire island. What a great way to get to see Nantucket! Unfortunately, at our last stop, the key broke in the seat compartment. Again, the staff was great! We called the shop and they sent someone out within 20 minutes with a new key. The problem however lies in the way the shop handled the broken key. These keys are poorly made, extremely flimsy. I've never broken a key before. I do not man-handle keys or force them into locks where they do not fit. It is the responsibility of the company to ensure their equipment is safe, sturdy, and reliable. We got back to the shop at the end of the day and were told we had to pay for the key. My boyfriend spoke with the manager Joe who said he would wave the fee once we explained the situation. Later I find that the shop charged me $50 for a new key. My boyfriend and I tried multiple times to reach Joe but he never returned our calls. I sincerely hope they use my $50 to buy a new sturdy key to prevent this from happening to some other unsuspecting customer. read more

Had a ton of fun on our mopeds, but the owners here totally fit the Nantucket bill of arrogance. We arrived on the late ferry and were only going to have the scooters for two hours - tops. The owner didn't even look us in the eye or care to explain why they could not offer a reduced rate for such a short period of time. Apparently they just don't do that during this season (though there was nobody else in line, plenty of availability and this is a family-owned business) Needless to say, we paid a full-day rate for two scooters which was around $200. We didn't have a lot of time to look for another shop, so we bit the bullet to enjoy the rest of our experience. Not a good first impression right off the boat...so if you're planning to come here, do your research and find another shop! Staff was great, but owners are clearly only interested in padding their pockets. I guess you have to when you live here. read more

These are some friendly dudes and had me and my hottie accomplice outfitted with some sweet cruiser bikes for the day. They even set us up with some wooden baskets on the front of our bikes so we could ride in style. Cruiser bikes are definitely one of the easiest and funnest ways to get around Nantucket. The guys provided us with a bike trail map and recommended to us the best routes to get away from the circus-like Nantucket tourist traffic. We took the Cliff Trail to the Dionis Trail and ended up at beautiful Dionis Beach on the North side of the island and got a nice little workout in the process The bikes themselves weren't top of the line but they were well maintained and reliable. I'd recommend this place to friends and definitely come back for a cycle if I'm on Nantucket again. Although next time we're definitely trying a tandem bike. read more

In early July, I rented a bike from Nantucket Bike Shops to explore Nantucket during my first ever visit to the island. Luckily for me, I had a really helpful salesman named Joe give me advice on the best routes, and the best bike to fit my riding style. I visited the awesome Cisco Brewery under his recommendation, and then continued to explore the island further after that. Overall I would say that the customer service was VERY helpful; giving me an inside view on where to go and where not to go on the island. The prices were fair and I had no problem with my bike the entire time. Can't wait to come back and rent another bike next summer! Would recommend to all of my friends!! read more

Absolutely fantastic experience. Cheaper than Young's by 20%. I would discount the one one-star review -- anytime you're trying something new, let the store know. Riding a scooter is not riding a bike, so requires a 5-10 minute training session. Nicest folks on the island. We rented duo and single scooters for the three of us. I took my daughter on the duo and my wife, who had never been on a motorized two-wheeler, took the single. The proprietor gave my wife a lesson and stayed with us as we learned the ropes going around the block before letting us go off for the day. He suggested a route that took us away from the downtown cobblestones. He also gave us a few great ideas for touring. The equipment was well-maintained, and we had five sizes of helmets from which to choose. read more

Rented an adult bike with child tagalong connected as well as another adult bike. Bikes were in great condition. Gave us free baskets for both adult bikes plus helmet for our 5 year old riding the tagalong. Would highly recommend the attached tagalong bike if your child is not yet ready to ride on their own. (ours still uses training wheels at home but was fine on this one) Maps and recommendations were great. Riding bikes around the island was a wonderful way to explore the island without a car!! read more

First thing we laid our eyes on when we got off the ferry to beautiful Nantucket was this bike shop. If it wasn't for this awesome gentleman who we approached and right away he greeted us and asked us if we need any assistance. He introduced us to a super 8 two person moped. We had another worker train us on the basics and five mins later we were cruisin'. The moped was dependable for all 24 hours and that can't be said for our buddy who rented one down the street. We rented bikes here on Wednesday of this week. Our family are avid cyclists and understand what we are looking for. The quality of the rental cycles was mediocre at best and the service was POOR!!! Chain came off immediately as I see another person had same issue. My wife's bike wouldn't change into the highest sprocket so she was left pedaling from middle sprocket. Again, the cycles were in mediocre condition and all the employees wanted to do was get the folks through the lines and out the door. STAY AWAY FROM NANTUCKET BICYCLES. LKS L. Rented bikes for 5 days, 2 bikes broke (chain slipped off). Shifter was broken on replacement bike and couldn't change gears. On top of it, service employee took key to original bike, so we had to wait a half hour for another employee to bike over and unlock it. We rented two bicycles from Nantucket Bike Shop and had a wonderful time riding all around Nantucket. We rented the bikes for a 24 hr period. The staff was friendly and courteous. They made sure the bikes were sized correctly. They even provided baskets free of charge. We used the free map they gave us to find the bike trails and towns we wanted to see. I like that they assured us that if we had any problems with the bike to call them and they would come and take care of the issue. They even made sure we knew where to find their telephone number. Of course, we had no issues so we didn't need to call them. I also liked how quick it was to get on the road. Our time on Nantucket was short so I didn't want to spend time waiting in lines. We rented 3 double scooters for my family of six. The guy who got us set-up, Joe and the trainer were helpful and patient. After that, it was downhill as far as service. We had an issue with the key on the road, and the customer service person was completely rude on the phone. Even though my issue could have been simple and because of my inexperience with mopeds, we couldn't figure out the issue, he made me feel like an idiot and I was inconveniencing him from doing his job. And the people taking care of the returns were very, very rude. They were trying to rush us in getting our stuff out of the mopeds and we weren't even late. They were telling us that our items shouldn't be in the storage cases, even while we were taking them out. I would not rent from these rude people next time. read more

I was very lucky that i rented from this shop in spite of some bad luck on the island! Joe the manager was very kind and assisted me when my bike was stolen. Though i had secured the bike well, someone managed to make off with it and Joe was very understanding and willing to help me find a solution. Ultimately a different bike from the bike shop had been sitting for days at the same location and he took it instead and credited me the days I didn't have a bicycle. Thank you very much! read more
