On the ferry to Martha's vineyard a couple recommended Anderson's for a day bike rental and I'm so happy they did! It's $25 for an all day bike rental (must return by 6pm). Told them what route we were going and how we preferred a more conformable ride and they recommended different bikes based on this - they also provided helmets, a map of the island, a bike lock, bike basket and bungee cords which were all included in the $25 fee. they were great at providing recommendations and tips on how to navigate the areas we were biking to. My girlfriend and I rented a bike each for the day. 50 dollars for 2 bikes 2 locks and 2 helmets. The man helping us was very friendly and gave lots of options of things to do. Ultimately my girlfriend had overestimated her riding ability and didn't feel comfortable riding to any of the other towns. We went back and the staff were exceedingly understanding and kind about the situation. They gave us a full refund and even gave us options for other things to do for the day. My family and I were on Martha's Vineyard for vacation, and I was determined to rent a bike, as I had already read it was fun to get around on the vineyard ,right here on yelp. I already had Anderson's Bike Rental saved here in my bookmarks . This location is in the Town of Oak Bluffs , which is just one of the towns on the vineyard . To me , this is the most artsy part of the vineyard . So, we walk to the shop , and it's so cute! Like everything on the vineyard, it's very cute and quaint , and had several bikes out front. It looks like a house. We walk up and speak to a lady named Cathy. Cathy took the time to really explain the use of the bikes, as well as gave us a map to follow the bike trail, which was extremely helpful. Very one on one attention , and very detailed . You will get your bike, a lock for the bike, and a basket attached to the bike , which was very necessary . We chose not to get a helmut. We decided on two bikes , and Cathy recommended that we bike 6 miles from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown ,which is another town on the vineyard , since we were already wanting to tour there anyway . I was thinking OMG what ? LOL! I seriously hadn't been on a bike in like over 20 years, so I knew this was about to be the most hilarious thing LOL, but they say you never forget right ? So, we get the bikes, and I go for it . After 5 minutes of being a bit uncomfortable , I'm 10 years old again on this fabulous bike! We decided to go ahead and bike the 6 miles . OMG, the scenery of the beach was just breath taking on our ride . Keep in mind, I normally wouldn't bike near regular car traffic, but it's very normal to ride your bike around town here , and there are plenty of bike trails all the way through . You don't even think about how tired you are , because it's so beautiful! We actually made it to Edgartown and got to see Lighthouse Beach , which was beautiful! Now, I know 6 miles is not a lot for some on a bike, but i think I did pretty well after not being on a bike for years LOL. Great workout, great scenery . I thank Cathy for her great information and kindness, she was very fun to talk to , great sense of humor! One thing to note , if you can't bike back to Oak Bluffs, the bus system on the vineyard will happily let you take your bike on the bus . It will be hooked on the front of the bus . Just be sure to be the first in line when waiting for the bus because the buses load up fast, and some of the buses only hold 2 or 3 bikes at a time , and a lot of people ride bikes . You have to use your strength and prop your bike on the front of the bus . The buses come like every 20 minutes or so if you miss one. Bike rental was $20 for the day, up until 6pm . All in all, great experience and I can't wait until my next visit! read more

This place easily deserves a rating of 5. They're super conveniently located just steps off of where the ferry lands, the service is outstanding, and the price is a steal. I think we paid about $30 for two bikes for a whole day, including baskets and bike locks. We actually didn't have a reservation, but even as walk-ups, they offered us a great selection of cruiser/comfort bikes and more sporty bikes. They did a great job of making sure the bikes were adjusted for both of us for maximum comfort, and they made sure we had all the maps and info we needed to cruise around the island. The bikes were in great shape and you could tell they were well maintained. Employees were friendly, genuinely happy and nice people - so rare!! I would absolutely recommend this company! read more

Anderson's has reliable gear, good selection and reasonable prices ($18/day). If you go to MV on a daytrip, don't bother lugging your wheels. These folks will set you up without fail and give you quality advice as well. These are locals that want mainlander's to really enjoy their island. I like arriving on MV as a passenger only because finding alternative transportation is super convenient. Anderson's is the first stop off of the Quonset-OB ferry, a mere block away. If your bum gets tired and you need a lift, a $7 day ticket to ride the bus anywhere on the island is worth it. Hitch you bike to the front and ride it to the local gelato station to refresh. The lady from Anderson's was such a sweet heart. We had issues with this whole bike rental thingy and a misunderstanding with Queen Island and she suggested at they ask for a refund.. you can go read my review on Queen Island. Anyways, when you get to the island, take a right and keep walking and they're the first bike shop on the left hand side. We were helped right away and a variety of bikes were shown. She even went to the extent of giving us recommendations and finding Sister and I identical bikes. I really wanted a bike with a basket so I can take my camera out and take pictures. The one that I picked didn't have a basket so the lady ziptied one to the back. We ended up talking about my ring and having small talks but I would definitely recommend them to all. It means a lot when someone ask about your day and makes you feel like a person rather than just taking your money. I hardly give out 5 stars because it has to be a superb experience but Anderson's Bike did it! I wished I remember her name but she did an awesome job taking care of it! It's that Customer Service that makes the entire sooo much better and thank you for helping us. Back to the bikes - I rode around and saw that they were absolutely the cheapest compared to all others around that area. It was $22/bike for an entire day while many others were per hours. Being that we were there for literally half the day, $22/bike wasn't bad, where as $8/hour would have cost us so much more! We are giving these Boys 4 stars simply for their integrity. They did not lend a lot of help when we picked out our bike on the lawn and paid for the rental except to let us know that we better hurry before the next ferry boat comes in and all the bikes are gone. The seat adjustment was cursory. But when we went around the block one time and could not control the heavy, shaky, rattling, 2-seater, and returned in dismay, they immediately refunded our rental fee and wished us a good day. This is a very convenient bike rental, it is just a couple minutes walk just off getting off the Island Queen. The price for the rental is $20 for the day!! With prices like that you can't go wrong. When we got there we had about 4-5 hours before the last ferry back to the cape. The workers were very informative about the amount of time we had on the island and gave us a recommended route to take to enjoy the most out of our time on the vineyard. Anderson's really exceeded all of my expectations. We made a last-minute decision to try to bike for a day on MV. They delivered the bikes to where we were on the island (we were staying somewhere between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown), set us up (lock and helmets included) and worked with us to figure out a return time (we were running late). They remembered us by name and were super-nice and very professional. Can't really ask for more than that from a bike rental place. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow figured out how to offer even better customer service. We rented two road bikes from Anderson's and we're pleased with: - They weren't officially open at 8:50 yet happily set us up with our bikes. - Understanding that we wanted to Aquinnah and back they pulled out two nice higher-end Fuji hybrids. - Nice maps and directions were provided. - Bikes worked so well that not only did we do our ride to the west end of the island, we rode to Edgartown and the East Chop Lighthouse as well. Almost 60 miles of riding. The only (very minor) negative: - My wife 's bike could have used a little tuning on the front derailleur; it dropped the chain twice. She just shifted more carefully once we figured this out. Make sure to run through the gears in town if heading out on a long ride! I felt connected to the island my entire stay because I always had an Anderson at my back. Family owned and operated for ~40 years, from the moment we rolled up we felt like we just arrived at our own family reunion. Our bikes and trailer were ready to roll immediately, but we weren't as we stayed and chatted about best roads & routes and where to get the best beer & steaks (Bob the butcher, of course). In fact, they took our bags and gave them a lift to our rental house so that we could better enjoy the ride there. What's that you say, a couple of your friends had their ferry was diverted to Vineyard Haven? No problem. we'll deliver them their bikes as well. But it didn't end there. Tired and hung over on Sunday, they gave all our stuff a lift back to there shop and held it for us until we were ready to roll our sorry butts back for departure. And of course they gave us several nearby recommendations for a proper meal before we finally departed. Tips were appropriate as Anderson's not only supplied us our rides, but they tripled as our island guide, anchor and life-preserver all in one. I dropped in late in the day (and just after the official summer season) and had the place to myself. The place is cute and seems small, but they have a lot of bikes. I was helped by an impressively friendly and knowledgable staff, that helped me find a bike with a good fit for me. Since it was so quiet while I was there I ended up talking with all three people working, and they were all very laid back and chatty. The bike was nothing special, but was well maintained, and everything was fully functional. They also provided a map, and some good pointers about rides that would fit the bill for what I was looking for. Since I was renting for a week, they even put my clipless pedals on without any fuss, and at no charge. read more

Excellent service from the start. We picked up later on a Saturday towards close and they only charged us 2 days if we returned early on Monday. It is also Labor Day weekend and busy and that did not affect how nice they were about that. As soon as we took off I realized there was no way I was comfortable riding on the streets so we ended up returning them about 15 minutes later. Very good bikes and excellent service. They looked after us with a very cheerful thoroughness, and made sure we got the right sizes with the correct seat adjustment. Lock and helmets, also correctly fitted, also provided. Quite a few roads on the Vineyard are dirt/stand, especially if you go onto protected Reservation roads. In that case, you'll want a fat-tired mountain bike with low gears. Coming off the boat you'll pass several other bike rentals, but Anderson's is around the corner, out of sight, but worth looking for. read more
