My experience with Napa Floor Company was HORRIFIC! If there was a minus value in the ratings, I would have checked it. In fact, if they were the last hardwood floor company in the Bay Area, I would rather skip hardwood floors and have neon yellow carpet with purple stripes installed. Initially, my impression of Alan and Steven were that they would probably be professional, honorable and do a good job. As the floor work began, my opinion drastically changed. I have never felt the need to write a negative review before. I guess I had never had a truly memorable negative experience with any flooring contractor before working with Napa Floor Company. I would not recommend Napa Floor Company to anyone. There are multiple areas of dark circular spots of stain on the hardwood floors, floor vents are bulging, some floor vents do not work, and an extremely light floor plank was installed in the living room in the middle of my dark hardwood floor. After the floors were installed, we noticed extensive dings and scrapes on the walls in almost every room. These walls had to be patched and painted. After Napa Floor Company sanded the hardwood floors, we had thick layers of dark brown dust on virtually all the flat surfaces and walls of the house. We were left to do a major clean up. When we signed the contract for the hardwood floors, we were confident that the contract was clearly for a COMPLETED hardwood floor project. Once work started, we learned otherwise. While I consider the written contract with this contractor to be very detailed, it was apparently not detailed enough. The contract included the total price, square footage, list of the hardwood floor locations, quality of wood, plank width, type of wood, type of moisture barrier, name of the stain and number and type of finishing coats. The number of stair treads and risers was even specified. Once the contract was signed, multiple special request and other work items began to surface. Napa Floor Company left huge gaps in the hardwood floors in multiple locations. ........ Oh I get it ....... if I don't want large gaps in my hardwood floor in the kitchen and stair landings that is a SPECIAL request. Who was supposed to cover the hardwood floor gaps with floor trim? Obviously, not the flooring company. I see.....The floor trim was included in the doors and sliders locations ONLY. We were charged additional labor and materials to cover all the other floor gaps. I guess I should have known to add the location of EVERY piece of trim in the contract to avoid additional charges. When the floors arrived, we were informed that if we wanted the floor planks to run in the same direction than we would be charged several hours of additional labor in sanding. In hind sight, I guess we also should have known to add the "DIRECTION" of "ALL" the planks in the contract to avoid additional charges. It was one charge after another. I wish that I had added something like........ All special requests and all other work shall be approved in WRITING AND SIGNED BY THE OWNERS prior to the work being started. This sentence might have saved us a lot of time and aggravation in dealing with this contractor. The total on the contract for approximately 1,525 sq. feet of wood flooring was well over $24,000. This amount was by far not the lowest bid for our floor project. Regardless, Napa Floor Company sued for an ADDITIONAL $325 dollars. Really!!!! Was there not enough profit already? It seems to me that they do not care anything about customer service, return business or future referrals. The floor stairs were also a huge problem. Even though the stairs were paid for promptly, it took a long time for NFC to install the stairs treads. The floor prep work was started in the beginning of June and the stair treads were not installed until late November. Unfortunately, we could not get to the second floor without the stair treads. At one point, we gave up on ever seeing the stair treads and asked for a credit. Finally, we (the owners) had to install temporary wood stair treads. The wood stairs allowed us to move into our house safely with my little girl and to be able to gain the County Building Department's blessing to move into our own residence. In the end, the stair treads creak so badly that we will need to hire another floor company to sand and re install some of the stair treads. There are a multitude of other issues with this contractor that I will not include here. It has now been well over one year and hardwood floors are still not completed. That's OK with me because I would never have them in my house again. Let me update my previous statement. .... If Napa Floor Company was the last hardwood floor company in the Bay Area, I would rather have neon yellow carpet with purple stripes AND LARGE PINK POKY DOTS. read more

We just finished having the Napa Floor Company install manufactured wood flooring in our kitchen/dining area. When we first looked for someone to replace the existing wood floor we contacted one company that came out and evaluated the work needed but never responded with a quote. A contractor we know recommended Napa Floor Company. We contacted the owner and he came out, looked over what needed to be done, and provided us a quote. We weren't in a hurry and Napa Floor fit us into their busy schedule. The workers were always on schedule, prepped the area and cleaned up the area at the end of each work day. A few minor issues were readily resolved and the floor was installed per our agreement. During the whole process the owner quickly answered our questions submitted via voice-mail or e-mail. We enjoyed working with the owner and employees. If the Yelp site had 0.5 ratings we would have rated the experience as 4.5. When it comes to how a job is performed, we expect the best and rate accordingly. Napa Floor Co. does a great job!!! Recently my aunt and uncle had their house remodeled, including putting in new floors. They had a great experience working with Alan at Napa Floor Company to realize their dream of having beautiful wide-plank, white oak floors throughout their new home in the Napa Country Club. While visiting, I met Alan Booth, the proprietor of the business. He shared his process and provided detailed information about all aspects of the floor he was installing that was both helpful and insightful (I hope to have my floors redone in the coming year). I learned the history of the company, and Alan has over 15 years of experience, taking over the family flooring business (in operation for over 30 years), serving Napa Valley, the North Bay, and the Bay Area. Napa Floor Company did an outstanding job in a very difficult situation. I had a 37 year old parquet floor that was hideous. It was dark to almost black, looked dingy and was installed in multiple rooms starting at the front door. Alan Booth evaluated the situation and offered two alternatives. One was to replace the entire floor and the second was to refinish the existing floor. Though I was concerned that the existing floor was beyond help and would always look dated at best, Alan assured me that he could sand the floor, stain it and coat it so that it would look great. He worked with us every step of the way and offered multiple stain options. The job was completed expeditiously and turned out fantastic. He cut in cast iron registers which look great. Multiple people who saw the floor before have commented on how great the floor looks and how much the new look far exceeded their expectation for the place. There were no hidden costs. Alan and Team took our beat up wide plank floors and turned them into something I could never have imagined. We were literally about to purchase a brand new hardwood floor when our designer sent us this article from Remodelista (http://www.remodelista.com/posts/acid-washed-reclaimed-wood-floors) and we decided to meet with Napa Floor because we have a very similar floor. Well sure enough they created a custom color and finish that literally blew me away. We have a dark floor with a white tint in our finish coat that gives this grey / pearl effect - completely unique and everyone that sees it absolutely loves it! Napa Floor Company turned our floors into something amazing while preserving the character and charm of our original house. What a great experience working with Alan of Napa Floor Company. We had maple wood floors in half of our downstairs that needed to be refinished. In addition, we wanted to install new maple floors in the remaining portion of the downstairs. In advance of starting the job, Alan worked with us to define the scope of work, gave us ideas to consider and warned us about potential areas that could result in higher costs. His proposal was very clear and easy to understand. In terms of workmanship, everything was great. One of the challenges was to feather in the new flooring area with the orginal flooring. We are very happy with how this all came together. Alan always arrived on time, kept us well informed of where they were in the process and cleaned up daily. Alan Booth and Anthony did a wonderful job on removing and reinstalling water damaged hardwood floors in my kitchen. The home is one year old and a leak developed in a new Kitchen Aid refrigerator. The hardwood floors in the kitchen were so damaged they had to be removed. Alan advised on the strategy, how to dry the subfloor, and then reinstalled the new hardwood material to match up with the wood floors that were in the rest of the home. They were on time, courteous, cleaned up their work and did a wonderful job for what was a very difficult repair. I would definitely highly recommend Alan and his team! He and his team refinished the oak floors in our Saint Helena home on schedule with spectacular results. Napa floors refinished the light maple floors throughout the house. They returned calls and emails on time, showed up on time and did a wonderful job as promised. We discussed various options, some more costly than others and there was no pressure to do anything other than what would look best. They showed up on time and completed all work as promised. I did some checking around the area and found that Napa Floors prices were very, very competitive and better than most. I intend to continue using them for other wood work around the house. We built our home over 30 years ago. The original oak floors were tired and warn. In addition, one oak floor was set too low for the adjoining tile area 9my original design flaw]. We had heard of Napa Floor Company from a friend. Alan reviewed our situation and what we wanted . He came up with a plan and a bid that was reasonable for the work to be done. It was scheduled. They showed up as planned worked neatly and completed the job on schedule. One old floor resurfaced to a beautiful condition and the other floor raised and a new oak floor installed. Alan and the Napa Floor Company are the real deal. We were stuck with hideously outdated tile in our kitchen and common living areas. Alan got us a great deal on top-quality quarter and rift sawn white oak to replace the tile, did the demo and then a beautiful high-quality job with the installation. On his recommendation we waited awhile to do the final sand and finish, and the results couldn't be better.
