Dr. Kampschroeder really takes the time to thoroughly examine all aspects of eye health and explains everything in plain language without being condescending. His friendly demeanor puts the patient at ease immediately, but he is also meticulous in looking at all factors when addressing patients' vision and eye health issues. I have a complicated vision/eye health situation, and he very patiently explained all aspects of what i was dealing with, and gave me clear options for solutions. I felt like i was in great hands when facing vision issues. I give him the highest praise possible. My family and I have been going to Naper Grove for close to 20 years. This is the best eye care office in the area. Amazing doctors and wonderful selection of glasses. I always recommend this office to family and friends. My biggest disappointment is that they have recently passed along the credit card fee along to patients. This is shameful. Our entire family goes to NaperGrove and have always been so impressed with the care and consent they have for your complete eye health. Dr. Halkias is fantastic, honestly if you go to anyone else at the practice just switch since he is the best. His attention to details and listened to each concern you have. What a difference a year makes. I rated Naper-Grove 5 stars in 2022. My most recent visits in 2023 were very different. I made an appointment for my wife and I. Just like last year, I explained that I see an ophthalmologist 3 times a year so I would only need the eyeglass exam. When we arrived at the appointment, I again mentioned to the receptionist that I would only need an eyeglass exam but my wife should receive the full exam. After a short wait they called me in first. Someone took me in a room and told me to look into a machine. I again stated I do not need anything but the glasses exam and do not want to pay for any additional tests. She said "don't worry, these are all included". I reluctantly did a vision field exam and a couple other things. They did not dilate my eyes so I assumed they were following my instructions. When we were both complete. they presented the bill for our exams and 3 pairs of glasses. Progressive lenses and frames for my wife and I as well as new sunglasses for my wife. The total due was $2492. Since that seemed high, I asked if I could get a printed copy to review. They said before it is paid, they can only show me the charges on their screen. I only got to the second line, when I saw they charged me $145 for a comprehensive eye exam in addition to the $47 refraction exam. They claimed they had to perform the comprehensive exam to provide a prescription. After another member of the staff reiterated that was the case, I reluctantly paid the bill and left. Once home, I pulled last year's invoice to see I only paid for a refraction exam. When I called to complain about the extra charge, they claimed it was a new rule this year and I would have needed to provide a note from my ophthalmologist to skip the extra exam. I believe that if that were true, they would have told me when I made the appointment. I also reviewed all the various charges over the phone to identify why my lenses were so expensive. I really did not notice a difference with the recommended $160 glare reduction. The bottom line is I feel I was cheated, but reviewed 2 stars since the glasses worked well. read more

Was referred here through my insurance and it was the best eye experience ever! They also have a large amount of available appointments and I did not have to wait long at all to be seen. Everyone I encountered, from the front desk, to the doctor, to the staff assisting me, were kind, friendly and warm. The optometrist was kind, friendly and made me feel at ease. I also needed an updated pair of glasses and the staff were very helpful in being patient and providing suggestions on what looked good for my face type :) Definitely recommend - this was probably one of the friendliest healthcare establishments I've ever visited. read more

I've gone to Dr. Halkias for prescriptions since 2014 and brought them to Lenscrafters to be cut because NaperGrove (which he owns) charges so much. So, this year, I thought I'd be generous and pay him to cut the lens even though it's double what Lenscrafters charges when they have a sale. I brought in my own favorite pre-owned frame and paid $866.40 for new progressive lenses and of course, an eyeglass prescription. This was after the 20% discount they give you if you don't ask them to file a claim with your insurance. Otherwise, just the appt for a prescription and progressive lens would have cost $1083 so def, file your own insurance claim. This time, however, I could not see through the new lenses and I've worn progressives for at least a decade. I kept saying the unclose vision is wrong, and asking to see Dr. Halkias again in the new glasses, to check the prescription, but the office staff kept putting me off, until after 3 times of the office staff seeing me in person, and a month went by, they finally allowed me an appt again with him when I told them I was disputing the charge and was very upset. My guess is Dr. Halkias scares his staff and they are afraid to ask him to recheck glasses because the staff is nice but they're an iron wall against redos with him. Dr. Halkias then called me, he was apologetic, he said it's okay I disputed the charge, he'll make it right before I pay again, and he redid the prescription (he said it was a bit off for close vision -- I could not read text), and we re-ordered my lenses. All good, I thought. When they came in, I got a text from him. How nice, I thought, he wants to check me personally in the new glasses--a personal text on my cell phone. No, it was a text saying to lift the dispute I put on my credit card before I picked them up, so I did, since my pre-owned frame is my favorite. So, at this point, I have been to NaperGrove 8x, missed work 3x, but I have the glasses, and I put them down on a counter to try later. Today, 4 days after I picked them up, I get a text from Dr. Halkias and once again, I think, how nice--he must be checking to see how the new prescription is working. Nope, he's impatient that the cc company says the dispute has not been lifted. It's been two business day, since I lifted the dispute on Wednesday afternoon--it's now Monday morning, so he's texting me again to pay him, and texted me that if I don't lift the dispute (which I did), he'll charge me for another eye exam for $230 and maybe I need another eye dr -- egad. You draw your own conclusions. If you can see someone else here, I'd recommend that! I texted him a photo of the dispute lifted note from my cc company, which ironically arrived in my mail that pm and told him no, worries, I'll move on to a new eye dr. When your eye dr prevents you from having a wrong prescription redone; his office staff is incompetent or poorly trained (they kept telling me maybe I was used to Lenscrafters materials and could not get used to theirs, huh?); and Dr. Halkias only cares about texting you repeatedly re the money, not the accuracy of his work, it's time to find a new eye dr who cares #1 about being a doctor of the eyes. I will say that the new prescription is excellent now that I've worn it a day. Too bad for him, as I'm at the eye dr almost every year for a new pair of glasses or contacts and as a teacher and musician, I need my glasses accurate. read more

I've been going to Dr. Giancola since I was probably 10 years old (I'm 27 now), and there is no other eye doctor that I have ever trusted as much. The prescriptions that I have gotten from her are all very accurate--other doctors have given me bad prescriptions that give me wild headaches and motion sickness. Though I don't live in the state anymore, whenever I come visit for the holidays I will plan my eye exam for that time so that I don't have to see another doctor. My whole family has been seeing Dr. Giancola for literally over a decade at this point, and we hope to continue seeing her for a very long time! read more

The staff has been getting progressively less friendly and less knowledgeable over the last couple of years. They seem to favor cranking through patients. If you reschedule because of sickness, you will no longer be allowed to schedule at all. Preferring sick patients to keep appointments seems like a very strange practice for a doctor's office. read more

Dr Kamal is very knowledgable and very good at explaining/teaching, whether it be for an adult or a child. Even my young one felt comfortable with her and eye exams can be quite scary for a small person. We've cycled through 4 optometrists in the last 5 yrs due to insurance or employment changes. Dr Kamal remembers us and remembers small details of our lives. It shows that she's listening and that she cares about her patients. I hope to end the cycling of eye drs and remain here as a patient because she's a great fit for us. Great selection of frames and the process of ordering them has been far less painful than previous vision centers. I can say that with honesty, having been here 6-7 times and having ordered 4 pairs of frames and 2 contact Rxs through Naper Grove. This is not a review based on one experience but several. While they are located in downtown Naper, they do have their own parking lot with ample parking. -No circling lots and parking garages followed by walking in inclement weather. I tried to set an appointment before going to TLC for lasik. Naper grove told me that they only did the post op. They said TLC would do my pre-op examination. Fast forward, I had my lasik done and called naper grove to schedule a post op appointment. First, the lady on the phone could not figure out my insurance for some reason. I waited on hold forever just to be transferred to a voicemail. I left a voicemail and heard back a week later today 4/9/20024. The lady on the phone was very rude. She said my voicemail was confusing and didn't make sense. She didn't want to listen to anything I had to say. On Monday, prior to the lady today, another team member from naper called me and said that I was good to go and scheduled a post- op examination for me. The lady on the phone today said that lady was wrong and should have never scheduled a post op appointment for me. This whole office is just confused. I cancelled my appointment because of how I was treated today. It unfortunate because my friend, Michael Mazurkiewics, who has been a long time customer at naper, referred me to them and I was looking forward to giving them a try. read more

I have only ever gone to Four Eyes before going to Naper Grove. I can honestly tell you there is a huge difference. Let's start with the staff. I have never felt more comfortable before. Really, my concerns were heard, addressed and then some. The very kind woman who assisted me with the first portion was sweet, kind, and professional. The Dr. was in very shortly after. I saw Dr. Sheth. Let me just tell you, she has amazing energy. She's not over the top, just good energy, explains everything so you understand, and goes above and beyond. I tried contacts for the first time, and she put them in for me so I can check them out. That experience was great. I was able to get them out myself that night, and in again this morning. I also ordered glasses. The woman that helped me was awesome. She knew immediately that the glasses I already had were too big, and my pupil wasn't centered. She really knew her stuff. She helped me pick some new glasses, she did more measurements than I knew existed, and out I went. I was in and out in an hour, not rushed or anything at all, just efficient. They were so nice there and I told them I'm already a customer for life. read more

I have been going to this practice seeing Dr. K for around 20 years. Yes, 20 years. Unfortunately, they have priced themselves out of my range. They take very few if any insurance plans, so self-pay is the norm. An eye exam is now more than $100 when most others are well below that. Sorry, but this is too much for someone to flip lenses and ask me if it's better now. Frames and lenses are also priced at full retail. So in short, if you go there for glasses, be prepared to spend a minimum of $350-400 for an exam and new specs. Have a family? Now you're in real trouble. Quality docs, quality products, good service, but now they are just too expensive. BTW, I have mentioned this to them and just get the old shoulder shrug. 2013 - In response to Dr. Halkias comment below: 20% Off still leaves Naper Grove above the competition and the rate they receive from insurance plans. Why do cash customers get to pay them more than they're willing to take from insurance plans? read more

My family has been patients of Dr. Kampschroeder for over 20 years. He and his associates are excellent excellent doctors. I would strongly encourage anyone to see him as he is extremely knowledgeable and a very caring man. The same is true of all of the doctors. My only complaint involves the people at the front desk. Voice mails are ignored related to appointments. We have left messages at the office as well as requesting appointments online and we rarely get a response. The staff feels they are too busy to respond to patients and we have to call back. The staff is unaware that we have been patients for 20 years. read more

I have been going to Naper Grove Vision for about 50 years (prior to it's current name). Dr. Sims was my original doctor, but I have seen others on staff and just as pleased! I have always received an extremely thorough exam and glasses or contacts were always perfect. Recently, I had a problem with a pair of progressive prescription sunglasses and brought them back. The staff there, namely Amy (manager), Cory and Cara took such excellent care of me. They were extremely understanding of the issues I was having. They saw there was in fact an issue and I was able to get another pair of glasses made which turned out perfect. They really went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied and treated me with such kindness wanting to make sure I was completely pleased. I called ahead to get the price of the exam since I don't have vision insurance. I was told it would be $130 max if they do the "mapping" but I could ask not to have that. If I didn't have it, then the $30 would not be charged. I decided this was fair. I figured I'd pay $100 and could get in right away vs. Paying $75 at my normal place that was booked for 3 months. Once I got there and the exam was done, I was told I owe $175! I said that I was told the max would be $130. They came back and said the best they could do could be $154. I said whomever answered your phone when I called told me I could get the exam for $100. I would never have set the appointment if I would have been told that I'm now being charged. I was told the manager would call me Monday. I never got a call. They did call my husband, who was not there, and didn't speak to anyone as at their office so what good is that? Now I received a 2nd notice bill after never receiving at 1st bill. I'm guessing that are counting the 1st bill to be the one they presented in their office the day of service that I refused to pay. Such poor customer service!! The only reason I would give 1 star is because the Dr was very nice. read more

I have never had an issue with my eyes until halloween this year when my genius self decided to order contacts online from a foreign country to wear...big mistake!! When I got home from my halloween party I took out the contacts but it felt like there was something stuck in my eye. Luckily I was able to come in and see Dr. Giancola (Laura) the very next day. I ended up scratching over 80% of my cornea and was in some serious pain. Dr. G took great care of me. She was able to put some drops in my eye to numb the pain and she also dilated my eye to keep the pain away. My second visit she put a bandage contact on my eye and it really sped up the healing process for me! I got really lucky and I'm back seeing just about as good as I was before. The whole office is full of very friendly people, they remember who you are too! I've been to both offices and they are both beautiful as well. Highly recommend this office to anyone who is looking for a new doctor! Dr. Giancola is awesome! read more

We have been purchased glasses from this stores for several years, but we are very disappointed this time. We tried to get a new pair of glass for our daughter last week, we found one but decide to try a different color . The sale lady help us placed order and call us to try. Then, the drama comes ...we wait almost half an hour in lobby (there is no other waiting ahead us), finally, when another sale came and brought us the trial frame, it turns out in a wrong size and wrong frame. Then, she tried to send me to other location to the original sales lady who ordered the frame for us. I ask her to pick another pair for us , she just kept telling us go to other location or come back to check if there is more new frames coming. I asked her to give a call if there is something new come, she said she could not do it but I should check by myself ....what kind if service your guys have here. Staff is incredibly rude. Called prior to coming in to ask if they would accept an outside rx which they said sure no problem. We get there and some lady who was checking us in was so aggressive and visibly aggravated with us being there. Whatever not a big deal. The problems really began to arise when the optician sat down with us. My wife and I have worked in the optical industry for 8 years so we are self sufficient and don't need someone to hold our hand while browsing. The lady was perfectly fine with letting us look at the frames and select the one we want. So we sit down with the "optician" and explain our daughters prescription and how the high astigmatism causes issues when not measured correctly. The "optician" proceeds to say well we don't do any measurements. Huh? You don't take any measurements?? She says the doctor does that in the exam. Sure the doctor will take the PD but the Other measurement such as OC is frame specific. She says well this is how it works. She finally agrees to go do a PD measurement but no OC. We asked the lady three times what the return or exchange policy is in case the glasses don't work and she avoided answering the question. I have never worked with someone so unprofessional and rude like this in a medical setting... she has no product knowledge and no interpersonal skills whatsoever. If we didn't have FSA dollars to burn we would've gone elsewhere. Optical store owners wonder why the industry gets a bad rep and employees like these two are the reason. read more

This review is for the main reception area. It is the latter part of July 2020 and we are in a pandemic. Clearly stated on the outside door as you walk in is the Mandatory Mask Rule. I follow it, the Receptionists' follow it, my daughter follows it, my son follows it, the man sitting across from me has had his mask under his nose the entire time I'm stuck waiting next to him! The Receptionists and staff see it (all 4 to 5 of them). I should of walked out but stay because I need to get this done. He's called back to pick out glasses, we are called immediately after to sit at an ajoining chair. He litterally puts his mask under his mouth. He's not even speaking. The lady who is fitting his glasses is clearly disgusted but says nothing! I say to the lady helping us that the gentleman has gone without a mask entire time I've been here. She says to me "he's behind glass." Ah, no he's not! Must be invisible glass, for real? I am disgusted if your staff does not have the guts and the courtsey to enforce a mandanted rule then you need new staff. After I receive glasses it is time to leave this practice. They obviously do not care about the health of their patients. read more

My family and I were patients of Dr. Kampschroeder at Naper Grove from 1997-2015 when we moved from Illinois. The care and attention we received from him and his assistant Sarah, as well as from the receptionists and the ladies who help you select glasses, was always absolutely wonderful. We also saw Dr. Giancola and Dr. Halkias occassionally and they were excellent as well. We moved to California and we're still looking for an optometric practice that measure up to you all! We miss you and think that maybe we should stop looking here and just schedule our next eye appointments in Chicago instead of Los Angeles! read more

Dr. Giancola is great! She is an excellent eye doctor and she and the rest of the staff are knowledgable, patient and helpful. My teenage daughter has been going to Dr. Giancola for about 5 years, and her contacts are difficult to fit and get right. Her exams always include a thorough eye test and discussion on what's going on with my daughter's vision/eyes. Dr. Laura has always been able to get her prescription exactly right, and I get zero complaints from my daughter (imagine that, no complaints from a teenager!) Naper Grove also has a lot of stylish frames, and my daughter has twice chosen a pair that she has gone on to wear for a few years at a time. Her glasses were ordered and received promptly and fit so well that we did not need to return for adjustment. The Naperville office is in a great location and there is a ton of parking right outside the office. There are also a lot of restaurants within a short walking distance, so you can make an an afternoon or evening out of it by visiting Dr. Giancola and having lunch/dinner in downtown Naperville! read more

donot go to this vision care, their receptionist is a liar and rude, what they want just your money, nothing else. I gave them my insurance number and asked them to confirm that my insurance covers the exam. They told me yes, what I need just pay for the co pay part, and ends up my insurance doesn't cover it , and when I called them, they told me that's my responsibility to check with insurance company. I mean they should tell me this ahead of time instead of afterwards. go to find other doctors! don't ever go there! read more
