This is a very peaceful place to stay. The staff are really nice and make sure you enjoy your stay. We got a studio and I was impressed with a full kitchen and all the utensils you need to cook and eat dinner in your suite. Sitting on the lanai and having coffee while taking in the beautiful views is a great way to start our day. You're right on one of the best beaches in maui, and the Kapalua coastal trail starts just up the beach, a great little hike. The parking can get a bit cramped, make sure you pull all the way forward, and if you have an early morning park smart. One morning a truck nearly blocked us in, we had about an inch of space on each side of our rental to squeeze through. I had to have my wife guide me, but she did a great job. Also the bed is about a 2 out of 5. Although we didn't wake up with aches and pains, it's not terribly comfy. Very bouncy. Overall the experience is great and I would stay here again. read more

Today, multiple gardeners were on-site and they cut the grass, trimmed the weeds around the pool and patios, and more. Pool staff were also there and the pool is very clean again. Napili Surf is looking much improved and more like the resort we're used to seeing. The office staff is as friendly as ever and always willing to quickly adhere to the needs of the guests. We stayed here for our trip to Maui and loved it. Nice rooms, although the AC was a bit loud. Each room had a kitchenette and massive fridge to store your food. Free parking and wifi are awesome to have. Easy access to the beach. You can walk to it. We were pool side and they had multiple pools. I'd stay here again. Room for you at the best kept secret on Maui! We have been coming to Napili Surf for over 20 years and every time we return I fall back in love with this hidden gem. Napili Surf sits right on the bay, steps from a perfect snorkeling spot and incredible sunsets each evening. The staff are extremely kind, accommodating and very hard working, keeping the grounds and rooms spotlessly clean. The landscaping is beautiful, the swimming pools are clean and warm(small but you have Napili Bay to swim as well), the rooms are immaculate with up to date appliances, well equipped kitchens, air conditioning when needed since the ocean breeze keeps the units cool, BBQs for outdoor cooking and lots of great restaurants nearby( Sansei, Merrimens, Star Noodle, Gazebo). I love how peaceful NS is, it's quiet so you can hear the birds chirping and the waves rolling in, and you can smell the flowers and completely relax. At night you can see so many stars. I always meet the nicest neighbors here. It feels like home. No extra fees for parking ( and you can park in front of your room), no extra fees for anything. In fact, they serve breakfast on the lawn once a week with incredible local pastries, fruits, homemade jams and breads, along with savory sides. Also they have a mai tai night, yoga classes and if you are here on a holiday, they always have fun activities, especially for children. The only thing bad about Napili Surf is having to leave this paradise so I just say until we meet again. If I have booked my return reservation, it makes it easier to say goodbye. When I return home to the race, I often think of Napili which makes me happy. read more

Shhhh...Conflicted. I'm posting a review of a hidden gem!!! Anyone who visits Maui should undoubtedly make this their choice for accommodations. Whether it's for a night or for an extended vacation. This was my second stay at The Surf, it's even better now! The resort recently went through an extensive remodel. The kitchens have new, top of the line appliances (filtered water and ice makers) and granite counter tops. The bathrooms have spacious , tile lined showers with shower heads that are large and provide a "rain like" experience. The unit floors are covered with high-end tiles and soft, plush carpeting. The king sized bed in our unit (214) had an extremely cozy pillow top mattress and sheets that were perfect to help keep you cool. The Pacific Ocean is just a few steps away! You don't have to load the rental car up and drive to the beach! The grounds are immaculate and lush. There are two pools that are perfectly set from a temperate perspective to be warm, but yet cool. There are three professional grade BBQ's at your disposal. Each morning they were cleaned and looked brand new after a days use. The lanai (deck) in 214 provides you a direct view of the ocean. It's a wonderful place to sit and enjoy coffee in the morning while listening to the birds, or to relax and have a cocktail or wine while feasting on lunch or dinner. Lastly, the staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. It didn't matter if we were speaking to the Manager (Tono), the front desk staff or the groundskeeper, everyone was professional, yet personable. Without the shadow of a doubt, this was a solidly five-star experience. Years (decades?) ago, I'd stayed at Napili Shores, which is next door (west) by one resort. In researching this trip, I'd considered Napili Shores but decided against it once I realized there was no air conditioning. We booked Napili Surf Beach Resort knowing the area for having an excellent beach for swimming and snorkeling. Check-in was an easy process. We arrived late and had our room code in advance. The next morning, we mentioned casually that the code lock was a little finicky despite entering the correct code. They came within an hour and replaced the batteries in the lock and the lock functioned better after that. The room we got was an ocean-view room, right next to their reception area. The morning of our stay when I received the room assignment, I was a little wary of it being next to reception... but it ended up being no problem at all! The room itself was fantastic. The place was SO CLEAN that it was almost inconceivable that anyone had stayed there prior to us. The place was recently remodeled, but I think the cleanliness was really more a testament to the quality of the service at Napili Surf Beach Resort. The kitchen was well-stocked and had all the accouterments you could possibly need to cook well for yourself if you fancy cooking while on vacation. We stocked up on cheeses, crackers, POG juice, wine, etc, and made great use of the unit's included full-sized refrigerator. One night we made our own shish kabobs and grilled them on one of at least five fancy barbecues I saw on the property. Fun! The bed was good but a little firm for my tastes. I liked how there were three ceiling fans in our studio unit and they were all quiet. The TV was good though we only used it once along with the Chromecast I brought with (thinking we'd be watching more Netflix than we did). The shower was great and the storage in the room was all really good. The AC unit was a godsend some evenings, however, the unit was only adequate enough to keep the humidity from being intolerable and the temperature from being unbearable. It was not the kind of unit that would chill your room to 68 degrees (not that we wanted that, anyway). Anyhow, more about the property... A barely-100-foot walk gets you to one of two swimming pools and the entrance to Napili beach. The pools were warm and featured showers nearby so you could rinse off before getting in. A side benefit of having one of the end units was the ease of getting in and out of our room from the lawn/pool/beach area. It meant we could drop our wet belongings off on our porch and go right around to the main door to get back in. We didn't need to worry about walking long distances or needing to leave our sliding door unlocked while we were out. Friday morning they hosted a breakfast social which included all sorts of Hawaiian treats, including spam musubi, baked breadfruit, pastries, coffee, fresh fruits, and more. No cost, and, too boot, we got a great demonstration of coconut husking and processing. The staff were SUPER friendly to us and were very helpful with everything. We signed the guest book in the room. It brought a tear to my eye reading similar stories of the wonderful memories many other guests have made with the help of this great resort. There were even photos in our room of a family that has been coming and staying at the same resort for 34 years! All in all, six nights cost us about $2,200 and we got a little bit of a kickback from Southwest by booking through their portal, to the tune of about 1,800 Rapid Rewards Points. My husband and I spent an absolutely perfect week on Maui at Napili Surf Resort in September 2019. Our experience exceeded our expectations... starting with the first interactions via email with the detail-oriented Reception staff leading up to our trip. We felt at home the moment we checked in. Our unit was simply terrific: newly updated, plenty of space for two, and the best view of Napili Bay and Molokai from our lanai. We enjoyed the perfect balance of cooking our own meals in the unit and on the shared Weber grills, with exploring the local restaurants in West Maui. The staff was helpful and friendly. The grounds are perfectly manicured. The sunsets are breathtaking. What surprised us most, though, was the sense of community... friendly neighbors and the all-resort breakfast which was delicious. When first arriving not sure where to park to check in, but we parked in front of the office. We got our parking tag and our room keys. It's very strange that they count the stripe towels that you use for the pool. If you want it exchanged they do an even exchange. I thought that was a bit strange. read more

Guest events on site (happy hour and breakfast) were very personal and a genuinely nice touch. I've been all over the world over the years. Stayed at the fanciest and crummiest. If you're looking for a nice place to decompress, reconnect with your family, embrace the true beauty of Maui and give your family a wonderful memory, look no further. We had a wonderful stay at Napili Surf! We loved that it is a small, friendly, and pretty quiet place that is right on the water. Napili Bay is perfect for snorkeling and swimming and we loved being able to go back and forth from our room to the beach. They also provide beach towels, chairs, and boogie boards. The room was spacious and very clean with a full kitchen and a lanai for outdoor dining or relaxing. The Friday breakfast was wonderful with local treats prepared with love. The only two very minor complaints were that the bed was on the firmer side (which is just a preference issue) and the AC was a bit loud. Neither really affected our enjoyment and we will definitely be back!! read more

Sigh. I know I shouldn't do this. I know that I'll kick myself in the head when a couple of years from now I try to return to this spot and it's completely booked with family oriented yelpers. But it's too good not to share. And I wish them all the success in the world. If you: dislike big resorts, like to cook for yourself, love ocean views and the sound of the surf, like to snorkle with turtles in a mild tempered bay with clear waters, like to watch whales breach against an tropical afternoon sunset, are ok with 80's decor and very clean accomodations and grounds, enjoy the occasional happy hour cocktails by the quaint pool - but most of all, if your idea of a Hawaiian vacation is simply to sit back relax and and let the little ones play on the beach. If this sounds like you. Then this place is your Nirvana. A mere 15 minute drive past Lahaina you'll find Napili Bay. It is an area that is mostly made up of condos and homes. This property sits right on the water. We stayed at the Grand Wailea for the first part of our trip and not even the most expensive rooms were as close to the water as this place. And while I am sure the other properties that line Napili Bay are nice as well... I'd return to this little piece of paradise in a heartbeat. Scott, the manager, was amazing. Such a nice guy! He used to manage a place up in wine country for many years before taking on this property. But don't let his haole-ness fool you. He lives Aloha. If you are looking for someone to cater to your needs 24/7 this is not the place for you. The front office closes around 5:30 or so - and if you arrive to check-in after they've closed you'll find a little envelope with your name on it and a note with your room number and keys inside. They do have daily maid service and a coin operated laundry facilities on site. And while I mentioned there were a number of families there with kids, it wasn't like I really "heard" them. I think being that close to the ocean sort of mutes out the little ones. ;) Either that or I was so happy with being in paradise, that it didn't bother me one bit. :) Aloha. read more

We stayed for a week in May and it was absolutely wonderful. This is not the place for you if you want a big tourist style hotel which is not what my husband and I prefer. This place is quiet, cozy, clean, and a great value. There are 4 buildings, two floors each and each unit is individually owned, but rented out through Napili Surf. They all have standard amenities, some studio and some one bedrooms. We decided to save some money and stayed in the 4th building. It was very nice. Right outside our lanai was a pool. Then the beach was not more than 50 yards away. The property is very quiet and they even ask that guests refrain from talking on cell phones on the property to help keep it a relaxing environment. They have Mai Tai night and Breakfast gathering once a week. The staff bring homemade jams, baked goods, appetizers and Mai Tais out for guests and everyone mingles about dusk. We loved the picnic tables on the property positioned with a great bay view. Then there are several grills on the property so you can grill some food then enjoy it with a beautiful view. **big tip: the popular Gazebo restaurant is just around the corner. Save yourself some time, call your order in, pick it up and bring it back to Napili Surf and dine on a picnic table or your own lanai. We stayed on the ground floor of the Lokelani bldg with a direct view of the ocean. It was wonderful! The property has been recently renovated and kitchen and bathroom appeared new. Our first visit was in 2016 with a garden/pool view room (Pualama bldg). We obviously liked it enough to return and we were quite excited to upgrade to the ocean view room. Besides our initial questions at check-in, our interactions with the staff were limited but nevertheless, very pleasant. They are extremely helpful and friendly!! The unit had everything we needed and felt like a home away from home. The units and outdoor area are regularly maintained (housekeeping every other day) and you can easily see that the management and staff take a lot of pride in keeping the place nice. All the units are a very quick and convenient walk to the beach. Many people seemed to enjoy preparing dinner on the outdoor grills around the property. There is a little socializing in the early evenings but nothing loud or disruptive and it is very quiet (except for the sound of the ocean) by 9-10pm. The units now have an air conditioning available but we never needed it. The breeze was just perfect to keep the room a comfortable temperature. There's a restaurant at the other end of the bay. It's what I would classify as 'old school Hawaiian'. Very nice but definitely not modern. You can get there on foot if you're okay walking along the beach at night. There is ambient light available from the buildings along the beach. Pros: No need to drive/find parking at the beach Chilled out location Clean kitchen and bathroom Everything available to prepare your own meals Easy to catch a Lyft/Uber/Taxi to & from dinner if you don't want to drive Cons: Not a lot of walkable dining options Overall: 5/5 Great value for money read more

Second time here, even better than the last. I've fallen for the Napili Beach, and this resort has more charm and style than anything else I've seen here. Michelle and I found ourselves entranced with the settings, the sunsets, rainbows, and beautiful mornings. It's more bargain than it appears too, as our unit has a full kitchen, all the needed appliances and gadgets. We ate fresh from the markets almost every day, cooking was so easy here. We'll be back. This place is paradise and magical. If you are looking for a unique and beautiful experience this is the place to be. Located at the southern tip of Napili bay, I was able to spot turtles from my Lanai, a short walk out to the pool or beach, beautiful gardens, comfortable accomodations. We spent our days snorkeling with turtles and Hawaiian fish or swimming in the pool. Be sure to observe the ocean conditions as things can change from calm to active daily. At the beach, we met many locals and travelers staying nearby. The Napli Surf team are amazing, friendly and helpful. They provide weekly events that create opportunities to meet fellow travelers, Mai Tai Mixer, Friday Hawaiian Brunch, Yoga... There are many good things to say about this resort. The location is great and the rooms have been remodeled nicely. The bed was comfortable. It's clean and the outdoor accommodations include a warm swimming pool, large family eating and lawn area, 3 large gas barbecues, and immediate beach access. Unfortunately, air conditioners that were probably installed during the remodel are loud temporary air conditioners (AC) that discharge conditioned air from each room to the outdoors as part of a temporary cooling process. This creates a negative pressure in the room, which causes hot and moist outdoor air to infiltrate the room through every crack and crevice. You might have guessed, I am in the AC business. It is unfortunate that the resort was sold on this idea for AC, because through the wall air conditioners would be far more efficient, quieter, and we would have been far more comfortable. Only 3 stars because of the air conditioning. read more

It doesn't get any better than this on Maui! The location is amazing-Steps to the beach and you don't have to get in the car. You can also walk to nearby beaches. Napili surf is SO clean and had everything we could ask for. Heidi at the front desk was awesome. The price of the room was very affordable compared to other locations on Maui and Napili bay was our favorite beach we visited on the island during our trip. Definitely check out the gazebo Restaurant next door as well. We will definitely book this place again if we ever get back to Maui! read more

The beach is one of the best in all of Maui, the grounds and amenities were pristine and perfect, and the rooms were spacious and provided everything we needed for a week in paradise. I found this place by doing a Google search for "Maui hotels with no bad reviews." I was not disappointed! The room was super clean, the kitchen was a FULL kitchen perfect for cooking breakfasts and lunches. Our view was fantastic. The staff were beyond friendly and helpful. The beach was just a few steps away. There was no AC, but there were ceiling fans and they also provided a portable fan that we could move around the room. Plus, its Maui, so all we had to do was open the back and front windows and we got an amazing beach breeze. There is no restaurant at this hotel, but the atmosphere and other amenities more than made up for it plus, Happy hour at the Sea House Restaurant was just a stroll down the beach.. I just wish I could have stayed longer! I miss you already Napili Surf Beach Resort!!!!!!! read more

What a wonderful, cozy, little resort. I almost don't want to review, because I want to keep it a secret for my self. The complex is literally on the Napili Beach. We stayed in unit 215 and had a great view of the ocean. At night, we could listen to the waves as we went to sleep. The grounds are immaculate too. Every day the grounds keepers were there trimming and cleaning. All the staff were great. The unit was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was well equipped, and nice gas grills outside too. I absolutely love this little resort! I stayed Oct 4 - 7th in Room 206. The resort upgraded my room to an ocean view condo and it had ALL the comforts of a home. The condo even had books for reading on the beach. The resort is right on the beach and it is a WONDERFUL calm/safe beach for swimming and snorkeling! The ladies in the front office were very helpful with recommendations on tours to take and places to visit. While I was there, the condo that was below the unit beside my unit had to be excavated. The property manager called me before the work started and informed me that it would start at 9am and end at 4pm throughout my stay. I have to admit, it was rather noisy during the day, but quiet at night. When I checked out the property manager made everything right, by only charging me for 2 nights. It was very considerate and thoughtful for the property manager to call ahead of time and making an effort to make things right. I will definitely stay here again when I return to Maui. read more

Very cozy, clean, quiet place with WONDERFUL view and AMAZING staff (staff was very helpful and nice)!!! The resort was not so big which was exactly what we were looking for. We LOVED the place! Very nice beach. We also liked the idea of "no cell phone noises on the resort's property". And we also enjoyed complimentary Mai Tai party for the guests and the provide complimentary coffee. We have booked it last minute and didn't have much time to read the reviews prior our visit so we were worried if it would be as nice as it was on the picture. It WAS!! The room and the grounds were very clean. The room has everything that you would need. I love that the kitchen was fully stocked. For me, eating out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner gets tiring, so that's why I picked Napili Surf Beach Resort. There are BBQ grills around the property and the grills were cleaned every morning. Inside the room there was a stovetop, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, refrigerator, dishwasher, utensils, cutlery, and wine bottle opener. It was like being home, but with a ocean front view :). I think it is definitely worth it to get an ocean front view. Sitting on the balcony, staring at the gorgeous beach and hearing the wave crashing was so relaxing. The staff were very friendly. On Tuesday evening, there was happy hour meet and great. Who doesn't love free beer and wine?!?! And the best part was that the resort was steps from the beach. Definitely felt like being on a secluded paradise. Napili Surf Beach Resort is a true gem. We return year after year to this wonderful location. Tano, the manager and his team are so friendly and helpful, and they take wonderful care of the grounds, the facilities and their guests. The updated rooms and buildings are great. New A/C units, new kitchens and bathrooms and the grounds are well manicured. There's an abundance of barbecues available. The view and the privacy are unparalleled. Once we arrived with some groceries in hand, we never got back in our car the entire week. There is so much available right there. Hiking, swimming, snorkeling, SUP, boogie boarding, whale watching, resting and of course relaxing in the beautiful tropical setting. There are two fabulous restaurants just steps away from this property. The sunsets are amazing from your room or right out your door on the beach. Thank you NSBR. We will come back year after year. We stayed on the second floor of the Lehua building in a 1-bedroom suite. It was comfortable and cheerfully decorated. The view was lovely, had a direct view from the balcony and bedroom of the ocean, despite it only being a 'partial ocean view' room. We could hear the sounds of the ocean clearly with the slider doors open, which was nice. In the very early morning (5:30ish) we had to close the slider doors because people below us were sitting at their lanai and chatting very loudly. We had a portable AC unit in the living room which we used during the day when we were in. The 1-bedroom worked well for us with a toddler who needed to take naps and go to bed earlier than us. We were only steps away from the beach. The beach is on a slope so it could be challenging for some people to walk on comfortably. And the waves were surprisingly pretty strong (I'm not a strong swimmer, so I could not go in the water). However to the left side of the beach there were some rocks which created a small safe area for kids to play. My toddler really enjoyed the pool, and it was almost always empty besides us. Their Friday breakfast social was really nice. Parking was easy, and it was so nice not having to drive to the beach. All in all we had a lovely stay and it was a great value for the price. read more

We've been going to Napili Surf since 1983 and loving it! The location is excellent and staff are wonderful. After the reno. the site has less parking due to handicap spots so this can be a challenge. read more

What a great place! The staff were all so helpful and friendly! "D" was especially great and I really appreciated her patience. I have been coming to Napili for years and this is my new choice in lodging! The views and the Pavilion restaurant were wonderful. And it was really nice having a sports store on site that rents everything a person would need. read more

We've stayed at Napili Surf six times, and will return as often as we can as long as we can. It's truly a magical place. Its accommodations are very comfortable, and the staff is wonderful. We stay in the ocean view studios, but all rooms in the front three buildings have great views of the ocean. The rear wing has no view, but the rooms share a nice small pool and face lovely gardens. The beach in front of the property is great for swimming and snorkeling, and there are even better opportunities for snorkeling a short walk in both directions from the property. Napili Surf is one of the most relaxing places we've ever visited. We've traveled fairly extensively, and Napili Surf is at the top of our list of favorite places. read more
