I have purchased over 30 cars and have never had a worse experience than Napleton Off Lease. My wife saw a 2020 Volvo v60 advertised and went and test drove it. It was listed for ~$36,500. After the test drive the salesperson told her there are over $4000 in dealer add-ons that were mandatory. Wheel and Tire protection, Car ID, Maintenance, etc. All these fees are just to make more money. Especially the Car ID product which does NOTHING for the consumer and what costs them less than $50 they require for $400 I believe. The next day I called and asked to speak to the manager, I asked him how, under Illinois law, can they advertise a car for one price, and when you arrive the actual price is more than 10% of the advertised price. He told me if you read the fine print dealer installed option do not have to be listed. I told him I would give him the advertised price. He said ok but I had to pay the $400 for the ID as it was already done. I told him ok. He agreed to call me back to give me a time when everything, including the paperwork would be ready so we could just sign and drive. I filled out the credit app online and he called back a few hours later and told me 4pm. When I arrived a 4pm the original salesperson greeted us and the manager came out and told us everything is almost ready and it would just be a few minutes. We signed a few things with the salesperson and went outside to look at the car. After 25 minutes I went in and asked the manager how much longer and he told me they sold 4 other cars that day and we had to be patient. We turned around to go back outside and the finance manager stopped us and started berating us. It was an actual verbal assault! "You have to wait your turn. I shouldn't even sell you this car. I'm losing $6000 selling you this car. It is just a piece of metal to me. You called and quoted Illinois law to us. I'm crazy for even selling you this car. You need to wait your turn". Keep in mind there wasn't another single customer in the place. If the car wasn't exactly what my wife wanted, I would have walked out. I was flabbergasted. Another 15 minutes went by and the finance manager came and got us and we went into his office to sign the paperwork. There was noone in his office before us, and he started from scratch. Nothing was prepared. When he finally handed me the loan paperwork, he didn't have the $3500 down payment nto the deal but at this point I just let it ride. We finished up and were walking out when the salesman said he was sorry for the outburst and was visibly embarrassed. "I'd ask you to write a positive review...." If all Napelton dealers play this add on 10%+ to an advertised car price then they should be ashamed. It is blaten bait and switch. The law is on the book from when dealers used to charge $95 for pinstriping, not over $4000 of high margin items no one needs. Someone from the dealership called a few days later and asked how our experience was. I told her the story and she told me someone would get back to me. I've never heard back from anyone. read more

Where should I start? So I go with my wife to look at and possibly buy a Tesla Model Y. Prior to going my wife was pre-approved for the car through the Capital One Auto Navigator App. So we drove 6 hours to see the car. We even stayed overnight at a hotel to make sure we got to the dealership early. So we get there and talk with salesperson. We test drive the car and it drove nice. On the capital one app, cars.com, and even the napletonofflease website the cars listed for $38,994. We explain that we would like to get the out the door price close to $41000. The salesperson leaves and comes back with an itemized list of charges with the final price. Final price would end of being close to $48000. They wanted to charge over $3000 for a market cost adjustment, $1300 for some xzilon ceramic coating, and a few other weird charges. My wife was then told that they lower the price of the car online to attract customers. Had I known the price of the car wasn't $38994 but was actually $43000 bc out some bs market adjustment and ceramic coating that no one asks for I wouldn't have wasted my time driving so far to look at this vehicle. $43000 before adding sales tax, title, some ev inspection fee, etc. coming out to almost $48000. $9000+ over the online asking price. We started leaving and the salesperson said it's company policy before leaving for us to talk with the manager. I ended up going to the car. My wife stayed in. While I'm the car my wife said the salesperson told her the manager would probably do $42000 otd. Then it was $43000. Then my wife heard the manager say, "she drove 4 hours here, she isn't going anywhere" meaning she isn't going to drive this far without being suckered into what ever offer we give her. That's when she walked out and we left. I believe lowering the cost online to reflect a price that isn't true and then inflating the price once someone is at the location is the definition of unfair business practices. So be aware that this dealership which there are 61 locations does this practice and steer clear. read more

Our salesman Richmond, also did a great job to get us out of there quickly, and as painless as possible. I'm not sure if the reviews on here are for a Napleton dealership or the Napleton off lease location. I'm referring specifically to the off lease location. I saw a car online that I've been looking for. Drove to this off lease store, again not a dealership, this was like a different version of a dealership, smaller building, all white walls like it was just painted yesterday & they just moved in, just little chairs & no desks or furniture whatsoever in one of the bigger rooms where I saw people just sitting in chairs with nothing else in the entirer room. The store had vinyl banners hanging around on strings outside & hanging on walls, not actual signs. Gave me Boiler Room vibes like they just ran in there & tried to setup a dealership real quick. I've purchased a car at a Napleton dealership before, this was definitely nothing like that. So I pull up to the car, it's $28K. Decent price, but I see on window you must pay $600 extra for tints which don't cost that much, $300 for a 2 oil change & tire rotation package which definitely don't cost that much ($60-70 for synthetic oil change & everywhere I've ever bought tires for past 40 yrs rotation is free to $20 max) and then some other care or fabric package or something, & I would never want or buy any of them. I go in to ask about the car & I'm quickly told that I would have to pay $2,500 for their 125 point inspection they did as well. WHAT???? Do the wipers, headlights, seats etc work & engine all good, you know, what a car dealership is SUPPOSED to do before they sell a car. He told me I was like that because I, like many he said, don't read the inspection list. Well let's see it, it must be the most different & amazing inspection ever to charge people $2,500 for. I did read it, and sure enough it was the exact same list of things every single dealership or car sales business I've ever heard of, been to, or purchased a car from in my entirs life uses to make sure a car is in a condition to offer it for sale. So the car was listed for $28K but when you add the $2,500 BS inspection fee that no one else charges, $600 for tints (the car I was looking at was not a stretch limo), ripoff oil change package & whatever the other package/dealer option/add on stickers that were on windshield of that car that you don't want or need to grossly overpay for brought it to ~$32,500. He then said we can't do anything about taxes, doc fees etc, that's more. I know and am aware of that, he said it like I don't know anything, a few times. My issue isn't that I have to pay taxes of course, it's the $4-5K of nonsense they were going to charge me. I left quickly & will enjoy buying from any other dealership as they almost all are completely opposite of this place. In fact I just went with and helped a friend of mine buy a Prius that very same morning from a reputable dealership. No inspection fees, charge for tints or ripoff oil change pkg, none of it. If they were a restaurant your bill would surprise you as they'd probably charge you for providing silverware & cooking the food. read more

Maybe a decent place if your local but if your traveling at all just use vroom or something else. I was recommended this place by a customer after talking about what I wanted in a new car and no all over the place stuff. Called up the dealer and I was excited they had what I was looking for right around the price I wanted. He said awesome come on down tomorrow evening after work and there might even be some wiggle room on car price. I said shoot that's rare these days but awesome totally worth the 2 hour drive. Next day when I was getting ready to leave I pulled up the car to show a friend the car; Price jumped a few thousand. So I called to talk to Micheal (the sales manager) to see if we could work something out. Was told nope sorry market moves and basically should have got there yesterday. So no talking about nothing? What happened to hey there might even be wiggle room. I'm shocked on how buying cars are now days. Proves why the dealership model is coming to a end! Would love to chat with someone regarding this! I am not a fan of how this place operates. Read other reviews (Google, KBB, BBB, Yelp - they aren't lying!!). I have purchased my last three cars from Napleton in our area so we were heading into this thinking it would be an honest process. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We drove 2 -1/2 hours to Chicago to look at several cars. We decided to purchase one from this place after we test drove it and others. The entire process was going smooth until the sales manager brought out the "pricing sheet". The online advertised price was $34,000. We were not haggling and were planning to pay sticker price, plus the normal tax, tag, and title fees - plus any normal dealer fees which have never been extravagant in our experience. We were FLOORED when they brought out the paper with all of the costs. They decided to tack on TWO GRAND and claimed "market adjustment" which was clearly a BAIT & SWITCH. They also were charging $1,200 for the Xzilon they decided to use when detailing the car. I am NOT NEW to Napleton and the Xzilon product. Matter of fact, when I purchased my last car (new) I declined it, but they ended up offering it to me for free (it's a $30 product if you search for it). This dealer WOULD NOT remove it from the financing sheet. $1,200 - can you believe that??!! Further, their "dealer service fee" was almost $1,000. This dealership is trying to bait and switch and rob the customer. If they would have just been up front and advertised the car for $36,000 then we may have thought differently - but to waste our time the entire day and then pulling that - we walked. And thank goodness too - we found the same car with more options (adaptive cruise control is the best I might add) at a BMW dealer who gave us impeccable service, no hidden bs fees, didn't try to charge us $1.200 for a detailing fee, and their "dealer fee" to do the paperwork was a whopping $350. I don't know how this dealership will make it - or how others are not mad about being bait and switched. Stop getting taken advantage of people - we all have to earn our salaries by working hard, and you should not get swindled like this. You may want to go see their Better Business Bureau page and other review sites. People aren't lying folks. Do your homework - wish we would have before coming here. Glad we walked. Wow. Came on a Monday to test drive. They added several thousand $ of useless add on to price. I agreed to one add on and after waiting an hour we said we would come back the next day. The car was supposed to be cleaned up and paperwork ready. When I arrived I waited over 1 1/2 hours for finance manager and I was the first one in that day. Finance manager did not know how to complete paper work for an Illinois car. Finally the car was not cleaned up at all or even gassed up after a 33,000 purchase. No car mats in the car ..... worst customer service experience ever. Our salesman was nice but the way they do business is terrible! read more

I thought I was having a good experience with Napleton Off-Lease a couple weeks ago. I had worked out a deal on a Friday with Brian on an 2017 Audi Q7. I agreed to buy the car if they would take care of some cosmetic blemishes. I paid a $500 deposit that was supposed to give me the "right of first refusal" while I waited for the body work to be done. They said the car would be ready on Wednesday and I planned to come down from Michigan on Saturday to pick it up. I even emailed Brian on Monday to confirm we were on the same page with expectations. When I didn't hear from Brian on Wednesday, I left him a message asking about the car's status. His response on Thursday morning was that he had a day off on Wednesday and his general manager decided to sell the car to people who came in with a higher offer. While I did receive my deposit back, my warning is that a deposit and verbal promise means nothing here. It's an integrity issue. With inventory being so low and cars selling quickly, they probably do not care about blowing off a customer during this season. But time has a way of changing the business landscape. read more

This was a horrible experience. I found a car online with the price of $25,991. I called to discuss and set an appointment for Saturday 2/26/2022 at 10:00am where they'll have the car ready. The young lady that set the appointment confirmed it and I was set. I go see the car, and first hand over my keys so they can inspect my car - a Ford Fusion Energi. The sales rep offers me coffee, then tells me the machine isn't working yet. Ok. The sales rep and I walk around my car for the trade in where he sees a mark and tried to tell me that's a scratch, but when I quickly rubbed over the mark the mark was magically gone. The rep then gets into the car and is flummoxed by the electric motor and can't figure out how to start the car. I show him what he needs to see, then we go inside. Keep in mind that I still haven't seen the car I came in to see. The sales rep tells me they're getting the car ready and I can wait in the waiting room. Ok, I go and sit. About 10 minutes later the rep comes back and says the car is ready to go, and he's sorry for the delay. He then explains that there was only a little gas in it and the porter didn't come to work today so he had to go fill the car up. So about 30 minutes into my appointment t time I finally get to test drive the car. The rep is going on and on about the great features that Napleton puts into the cars while we complete our 2 miles test drive. When I ask him how much all these extras are he says he doesn't do the numbers. Ok. So we get back to the dealership,l and sit down to talk pricing. I tell him we have our own financing lined up so we can skip that part. He says ok. He goes to the back and comes back with a piece of paper that I'm not allowed to write on. I ask him for some paper to take notes and he gives me a Post-It note. I go over the numbers and I see 1) a lowball offer on the trade 2) about $4000 worth of extras. The then go to redline those items and I'm again reminded that I'm not allowed to write on the paper. At this point I'm going frustrated because I'm starting to feel that I'm being manipulated into a terrible deal. I take a beat, collect my thoughts and turn around with new numbers - which were not on their paper, but the post it note. The sales rep then says to me "do you have a blank check or a $20 bill, just to show your serious." I'm in your dealership talking numbers, I had you appraise my trade, I'm serious. But I had him a credit card knowing that I can dispute all charges. Fine. He comes back and says "let's get that credit app in while we see what my manager says." I reminded him that I had my own financing, but he insisted on a credit app. At that point to stood up, told him any deal was off and I want my keys and credit card back. It took several minutes and me having to talk to two other people before I was given my keys and credit card. These are strong arm tactics and completely unnecessary, stay away from this dealership. They don't respect peoples time and want to play games. The way todays instance went is indicative of the entire dealer group. Best stay away from Napleton. read more

We found a car we were interested in buying and called to check availability and schedule test drive. We were driving 3.5 hours to see this specific car. Before my appointment I had 2 sales managers call to check on us, if we had any questions, if we knew how to get there, even gave me personal cell number to call if any issues. This of course made me feel very good about the trip to see this car and how much this dealership appreciated their customers. When we arrived we were greeted by Nicholas Greco our sales consultant who was very friendly and easy to talk to from the moment we walked in till the moment we left. It was a great car, exactly like pictures and drove fantastic. When we sat down to discuss numbers, the price was higher than we expected. We sat down with sales manager Mike Lemm to discuss figures. He was very nice, not pushy at all...explained the breakdown of the numbers and costs. We did some back and forth negotiating, he really worked hard to get to a price that we were comfortable with. I realize that car dealership is a business and there is money to be made. But they also realize the value of a customer and that shows. We had some back and forth moments, at one point I didn't know if we were going to be able to make the deal. But, with mutual respect we were able to come to an agreement that I believe was a fair deal. There was a little confusion on paperwork, but we quickly resolved and continued the deal as discussed. Overall I'm very pleased with our purchase and would travel to see them again in the future should my needs align with their inventory at that time. read more

Don't waste your time. I agree with reviewer Eric N. who called this a classic rip-off dealer. They basically live up to every negative used car salesman stereotype. If you are considering this dealership based on a price you saw online, please know that the price will be close to $10,000 more than advertised. They charge you $2,000 for the interior/exterior protection that has already been applied to the car. They charge you another $1,000+ for a year of maintenance at their dealerships (how many oil changes/tire rotations are you going to need in a year?). They tint the windows and charge $500. Doc fees, another $300+. They've laser etched the VIN on every body panel as a theft recovery measure at the low, low price of $400. They build their inspection and reconditioning price into the in-store base price (another $2,000 on the car I looked at), but not on the advertised price. Obviously, you should expect to pay tax, title and, registration and they cannot control that, but thousands of dollars of the extras that you probably don't want are taxed as well, further inflating your cost. They also only give you one key fob, with additional ones available for purchase. I didn't even bother to inquire as to the price, but based on what other reviewers have said, it costs another few hundred dollars. After all these (and others I've probably forgotten) were added, the car advertised at $18,500 was offered at $27,900. Then of course, they make you jump through hoops, asking what you would like to pay, writing that number down, asking you to sign, leading you to believe that they could honor that amount. Then they check with their people and come back with an offer only a few thousand off their inflated price. Then of course they act like you are unreasonable for expecting to get a "$27,900 car" at anywhere near your highest offer which is still well above their advertised price. Very high pressure sales approach. They continue this game of writing down and having you sign escalating offers, then coming back with a number only a few more hundred off their price until you get sick of it and leave. If you are willing to work for it, you may be able to get the price down to about $6,000 over advertised. If you like haggling and jumping through hoops, and you feel that the car you are looking at is still a good deal at 133% of the advertised price, you may be able to get yourself a used car at Napleton's Off-Lease. read more
