Napper Tandy's is one of the first bars I've been to in Norwood and it's alright. I've been there on a few occasions, never really for food, and I feel like its probably more of a place to go to with a group of 4 or more friends. It's got a very townie feel to it, which sometimes is inviting, sometimes not. Nothing was really that notable about the place really, I've gone to other bars where the bar staff is way more engaged in whats going on around them, but the good thing is that its not really a trashy place. I drove by the other day and it looked like they may have made some renovations to the layout of how the dining room / bar area is set up. One bad thing was trying to hang out on the patio, which they close pretty early and kind of get in your face about it. I may stop by again, but I'm not really dying to go there. read more

Went to Napper Tandy with my daughter today. She lives in Oregon and is home visiting. She has s perfectly valid OR drivers license which they would not accept and wanted a 2nd photo ID. Great place to hang out for few beers or for dinner. Buffalo chicken dip is the absolute best thing around. Beef stew topped with mashed potato is a close second. The bar area can get noisy so if you want to watch a sporting event you better know how to read lips. Soccer is big here. Good selection of draft beer and lots of pub menu items. After returning to Napper's for an impromptu vacation-planning session (which I have found goes over MUCH easier whilst under the influence), I have decided that I may have been too quick to judge this fair pub. My friend and I made a beeline for the outdoor patio, snagged a table, and spread out our itineraries, maps, and activity options (not something all bars encourage/permit - - - thank you, Napper's!). Our chipper waitress was quick to come over and, before you could say 'Carry-on Baggage Restrictions', our first round had been delivered! In addition to notations regarding our upcoming adventure - I jotted down a few in regards to our current surroundings: *Hung out on the patio (such an asset for a small place in the 'burbs) for the sunset. Most tables are under the shade of umbrella's for when the sun is overhead, and there is lighting for when the moon takes its place. *Our waitress was all smiles and also incredibly helpful - she kept all of the playgoer's pleased with full pints and a few laughs. *Hand-cut fries = amazing! I just couldn't help myself - my fingers kept returning to the basket again, and again, and again...so good. They also came out of the kitchen CRAZY fast! Our neighbors ordered a plate of nachos: holy-crap....HUGE! Note to self: order this next time. *Blueberry ale was entertaining (little blueberries bobbing around like a lava lamp never fails to bring a smile to my face); this was my friend's pint-of-choice. My order: the Black Velvet (a pint of Guinness-and-Cider - - - yum) and was I quite pleased that it came pre-poured (last time I received a pint of Guinness and a bottle of Magners - I prefer to keep my craftsmanship where it belongs and not to dabble in even mild mixology). Perfect choices for a summer's night outside. Conclusion: really glad I returned (and even more pleased that I could get some work accomplished while visiting). I had been contacted by the manager whom had taken my previous review to heart. He said that a few adjustments had been made and that he hoped that I would return soon (I'm glad I did - it was great to see a happy, team-oriented staff). Had my friend's surprise birthday party here last night and everyone on the staff were super accommodating and helpful! A great spot to get together with friends. The food and drinks were good, They had a nice fire going in the fireplace, and the karaoke on the other side of the bar was a lot of fun. Will definitely go back when I'm in the area! read more

I've stopped in here a few times over the years. Hadn't been back in a while, and realized I shouldn't have strayed away. They have Irish music back, which is always a plus for an Irish pub. It was good "craic" as they say. Turned an average Sunday into a fun afternoon. That being said I decided to hang out and have some food. They must have put a new menu in over the last year or so, it looked great. Ended up getting the steak tips, perfect medium rare and very tender. The bartender explained that they use tenderloin as opposed to the tough stuff most around use. I will definitely be stopping back in here again. read more

If your expectations match the set of generally safe "small local pub" assumptions, Napper Tandy's won't surprise or displease you. Their tap beer selection isn't stellar but it's not boring. They'll usually have one or two interesting seasonal beers and occasionally get some good ciders, too. Their food varies from mediocre (many of their fried apps are kind of sub-par) to really excellent (their fish & chips and shepherd's pie are fabulous). They also make a very solid burger. If you're trying to impress the pants off a visitor, don't bring them here. However, if you're feeling like going out and want a thoroughly decent dinner and drink for not a huge amount of money, they'll take care of you. There's a small patio in the back, two different bar areas, and occasionally some cigarette smoke from the guys who take two steps outside the propped-open door to light up. The atmosphere is very local and reasonably intimate, the service is pretty good, and they're careful to have relevant sports on multiple TVs. Napper Tandy's is not any kind of revelation but it's a nice place to relax and have a casual lunch or dinner. You'll need to make your own verdict but it's worth a visit to do so. read more

Tried for the first time last night. We had fried pickles for an appetizer (which were absolutely amazing). Then I had the napper burger and my boyfriend and the BBQ platter. Everything was good and the portions were large. It's a little dark inside but it is a bar. We are looking forward to going back for trivia on Wednesday night. read more

This was my second time to Napper Tandy's. The first time the bartender was very nice but the wine I ordered was from an old bottle. He did open a new bottle for me and the next glass was good but obviously not a place to get wine as it appears they do not monitor how long a bottle has been open. I went again this past Saturday night for a drink before dinner reservations elsewhere. The bartender was not friendly at all. She was actually quite rude. When we were ready to leave we had to call her over for our bill when she should have already come over to see if we had wanted another drink. Instead she ignored her customers and put bottles of beer away. That was my second and last time at that bar. read more

Full disclosure: I spend a third of my year in Norwood, so I am not a stranger to the people here or the town. I've also sung karaoke in dozens of places all over the world, so I know a little about what makes for a good karaoke experience. I tried Napper Tandy's because I've been underwhelmed by the few other karaoke options in the area. I went on a Saturday night (tonight). When I arrived a little after 9:00pm, the place was mostly full, although I was able to grab a seat at the bar. My lowball glass of gin and tonic was overloaded with ice well above the rim during the pour and ran $8 for Tanqueray; for the same price I was able to get a double of Tanqueray that wasn't watered down at a nice bar in Williamsburg, VA, last night. The glasses at Napper Tandy's have a funky odor to them, too, which makes the whole cocktail taste crappy. Bartenders were not friendly and seemed to have interest only in regulars. After three drinks, I asked for a Diet Coke, and the bartender charged me $2.25 for that--a HUGE no-no with patrons who have been drinking alcohol and are trying to slow down/hydrate/wake up a bit. I honestly cannot remember ever being charged for a soda at a bar after paying for alcoholic drinks. All of that might be worthy of two stars if it had not been for "Karaoke with Charlie," which I believe to be the absolute worst karaoke I have ever been to. Charlie has the ignominious distinction of beating out the following for this honor: 1) the karaoke bar in Manchester, UK, where a wall in the middle of the bar divided the Asian customers from the non-Asians, and the KJ took turns calling up people from each side of the wall to do an Asian song, then an American song; 2) the dive bar (also in Norwood, curiously) where I watched a seriously inebriated Greek man stand up and sing Greek karaoke songs for much of the night while almost everyone else showed zero interest in singing; and 3) the dbag KJ in Columbia, SC, who used to scream out drink specials in the middle of people's songs, join singers if he didn't like their rendition of the song, and inserted himself into the rotation after every three songs. Charlie's schtick is that he has no sign-up method for singers. Instead, you wander up to Charlie and tell him your name. When he gets around to calling you, you tell him the song you want to do. His songbooks look like an old, dog-eared phone book that you might find discarded in a puddle of vomit in the alley behind the bar, and I'm almost certain they haven't been updated since 2009. I couldn't find three different songs I was interested in doing because those pages had been torn from the book. His sound mixing and speaker positioning are terrible, so that there's lots of feedback if you wander even a foot or two outside of the imaginary circle he insists you stand in. The monitor appears to be something the size of a small Samsung tablet and is positioned at knee level, so that singers who don't know the words by heart are constantly looking down, rather than out toward the audience. Oh, and there's the annoying problem of Charlie moving back and forth in front of you while you're singing, sometimes asking you to move (while you're singing!) so that he can get by, and sometimes actually standing directly in front of you and socializing with patrons he knows, then acting annoyed when you try to hand him the mic when the song ends. Charlie also seems to have no sense of how to get the crowd worked up and keep them there so that they a) sing more and b) drink more. He plays a random DJ song between each karaoke song, which is unnecessary, wastes an enormous amount of time, and runs the risk of "stealing" an upcoming singer's song. Most importantly, the net result of this habit is that only 15 people had a chance to sing in the first two hours I was there. Charlie also continues to add new people who have just walked in the door to the rotation before allowing those already in the rotation to sing a second time. There also does not appear to be any place to see the rotation so that folks can anticipate when they might be coming up. All of this serves only to drive people away. By 11:30, the bar was half-empty, and there was almost zero enthusiasm about the people singing. Auschwitz would have felt more welcoming. Can't comment on the food, as I did not have any. read more

Eight of us from a large insurance company in the area went to Napper Tandys on Wed. eve. (Feb 14, 2018) for dinner, drinks and Trivia night. We were really looking forward to unwinding after a long day of training. There were 3 people from the United States (two from GA and one from PA), 2 people from Canada, 2 from Germany and 1 from France.  We got a table and the waitress came over with menus but didn't ask us for our drink orders, instead offered us to get water.  We ordered two appetizers for the table as she was about to leave. We had to get her attention again because we wanted to order alcoholic beverages. She then asked for all of our identifications (ID's). We all complied and gave our drivers license's. All of us are over the legal drinking age of 21. She left and went to the back of the house for approximately 10 min. She returned and told us that anyone from the outside of the United States must provide a passport in order to order alcoholic beverages but the people from the United States were fine.  We were very surprised as this was new to us, mainly for me because I have been in Norwood many times over the last 12 years and I was never asked for my ID, let alone my passport.  One of my German colleagues had his passport so he was able to order a beer.  The French colleague was not drinking, so that left me, my Canadian and the other German colleague.  I asked why they need our passport but was not given a reason.  I have a NEXUS card. For your reference, NEXUS is a bi-national, Canada-United States program for pre-approved, low-risk travellers entering Canada or the US at designated air, land and marine ports of entry. I am a Canadian Citizen and a NEXUS member, so the NEXUS card can be used in lieu of a passport when crossing the borders between Canada and the US. I tried explaining this to the waitress but she would not listen to me or bring in her manager to speak with me. In order for me to drink alcoholic beverages with my group I had to go back to my hotel to get my passport. I was furious but didn't want to ruin my groups evening and create a scene. Normally I would have immediately gotten up and left. My two colleagues and I took the hotel shuttle back to our hotel to pick up our passports and returned. The waitress took our passports, and again went to the back for about 5 minutes. We noticed a female manager return and go behind the bar and make a phone call while frantically flipping through our passports as if she was a border officer. A border officer actually has training and procedures to deal with this.  A bar manager does not, I'm sorry.  No legitimate reasons were given for this treatment.  If there was a reason, fine, I would understand. We finally got our passports back and were able to order our alcoholic beverages. Despite being extremely angry and frustrated we did not make any scenes.  We then had dinner and played trivia.  We made the most of our time there despite incredibly slow service and dealing with a rude waitress who clearly did not want us there.  I paid the bill for the group and we left.  Throughout the evening we had fun and didn't not let any of this affect us.  That being said, what happened bothered me a great deal and left an incredibly bad taste in my mouth.  I spoke with friends in Toronto who work in the industry along with colleagues and they were also disgusted.  We were able to find an advisory from The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of the State Treasurer Alcohol Beverages Control Commission (ABCC) Advisory on Massachussetts Identification Card As Acceptable Proof of Age for Alcoholic Beverage Purchase.  This is based on Massachusetts General Law Part 1, Title XX, Chapter 138, Section 34B.  Here is what it says:  On July 30, 2012, the Governor approved Chapter 170 of the Acts of 2012 that amended M.G.L. c.138, §34B1. As a result, beginning October 29, 2012, alcoholic beverages licensees may reasonably rely on the following forms of ID for proof of age:  1. A Massachusetts Driver's License;  2. A Massachusetts Liquor ID Card;  3. A Massachusetts ID Card;  4. A Passport Issued by the United States or a government that is officially recognized by the United States;  5. A Passport Card for a Passport issued by the United States; and  6. A Military Identification Card.  Based on this, you're right, a passport is needed.  For EVERYONE in the group, except me.  My NEXUS card is considered a Passport Card.  It is issued by my home country Canada AND the US.  You violated the law for serving my three colleagues from the US.  You can't simply apply this law the way you want based on who you feel comfortable with and you don't want at your establishment.  That's wrong and not how you run a business.   I would like existing and potential customers of this establishment to read this and provide feedback. I love Namby Pamby's!!!!! (I couldn't get the name straight when I first starting meeting a friend who lives nearby; the nickname has stuck) Their food is good, though not especially unique - and the portions are good-sized; not overwhelming, but I usually have left-overs. As someone else mentioned, the Trivia night takes over the bar with loud pop music, so you might want to bow out unless you're planning on playing - you won't be able to hear yourself talk, let alone those you're with. But hey, depending on your company, that might not be a bad thing ;) Also true about the occasional gnarly beer, but have had more good luck than not. And the way I love beer, this would definitely be a deal breaker for me :) Service has always been consistently great. And they've never screwed an order of mine up, which seems to be a rampant problem in Walpole/Norwood restaurants. Place seems very clean, though dark wood and dim lights can hide a lot. Plenty of parking; there is a public lot right across the street. Anyplace with a patio holds a special spot in my heart. I came to Norwood from St. John's, Newfoundland, about 14 years ago. In St. John's we had several excellent English and Irish pubs, serving nicely chilled Smithwicks and Guinness, and had excellent pub food. Not until Napper Tandy's opened in Norwood Center have I found a place to rival those beloved establishments. While the place looks fairly simple, and the menu small, everything on the menu is excellent. Don't believe me? Try the crab cakes, or the calimari, and see for yourself. The wait staff is lovely. Friendly, open, will chat with you. They serve you very well. Even on a daytime lunch visit when perhaps the only staff on is the bartender, he's attentive, quick to serve, and your food comes quickly. Then there's the atmosphere. Meeting friends or family there after work evokes the feeling I used to get when I did the same at the Ship Inn or the Duke of Duckworth in St. John's, and I never expected to get that feeling here in Norwood. I was wrong. So for a quick and tasty lunch with a nicely chilled Irish ale, or a party-like group meeting after work, this place gets my top score. Thanks, Napper's. The food was absolutely terrible. We ordered the buffalo chicken dip with chips, pizza, and burger - the dip and chips were terrible (chips were stale and dip was pure salt), pizza looked and tasted like it was just defrosted in a microwave, burger and fries looked sad, limp, and drenched in oil. I have visited Napper Tandy's on several occasions, usually for drinks rather than food. It is divided into two sides; left side is quieter and better for watching a game or dining. Right side when I have been there has had music. My favorite bartender, Lindsay, is always professional and attentive and pours a mean Sam Adams Brick Red Ale. I haven't dined much at NT's but recently tried the popcorn chicken - portion size was good and it was cooked well. I always stop in when I'm in the area. I'm told the chicken Marsala is excellent so that ill give that a go next time. read more

This bar has two sides, one side is a townie/divey pub and the other is more of a fancy lounge style pub. The lounge side has a mock fireplace that provides warmth and candles that sort of flicker. The burgers and pizzas are great. My favorite so far is the Fried Chicken sandwich which basically gives you a huge chunk of fried chicken breast. It's miles better than the standard frozen chicken patties. The beer selection is usually very good here as well. The only thing that would make this bar better is some pool tables. read more

I've worked in Norwood for years and have just recently started going to Napper Tandy's. I knew it existed and was popular with co-workers, but had never tried it out. I have been several times over the past few months and have found it to be a great spot for good food and a cold beer. The menu is not huge, but there are good options at a reasonable price. Portions are good as well. I love the pub decor and atmosphere. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. It was a little packed on St. Patty's day, but it is an Irish pub! read more

We went here because we were in the mood to see some bad Karaoke. Well this is all we got. We went to the bar first ordered a few drinks. There was 3 bartender. One came over right away. We searched the restaurant side for the DJ (we could hear him but not see him). We couldn't find him. So I asked the waitress where was the Karaoke and she said "It was piped into the walls. We couldn't see him." What? I thought. The can't be right. We took another walk around the restaurant side and finally found DJ Charles Brewer tucked away in the corner, yes we could see him. I went back to the bar for another round and stood there for a few minutes while two of the bartenders stood there chatting right in front of me and the same guy as my first round came from the other end of the bar to help me. He was good. We asked a waitress if we could just sit anywhere. She said yes. We took a seat right up front. Charles was great. He is the only reason I am giving this place any stars. We sat for about 20 minutes before my boyfriend had to get up and go find a waitress. He found a waiter that was just leaving for the night and he sent someone over. She was good at first. We were only drinking beers. But she was on her game for a little while. Total fizz out by the end of the night. The singers were entertaining. It got worse as the night and the drinks went on but it was fun. There was a few particular patron that ruined the whole night by smelling of bad bad body odor. When singing on of the guys was grabbing a random lady and she was chocking on his smell. I now call this place Nasty Tandy's. When we ordered our last drink we asked for the tab. After she gave us the bill it took her another 15 minutes to come back and get my payment. I saw her in the distance a few times but could not get her attention. We were getting up to pay at the bar and she finally came around the corner and said something stupid about a computer problem. She had no idea at this point if I was paying cash or credit. UPDATE: One of the bartenders mentioned my review to me, so obviously they care enough to come here and see what people are saying. My one constructive criticism was that I wanted to see more non-fruit based beers on tap, and within a couple of weeks they had added three new beers that were perfect for filling the gap: Blue Hills Brewery IPA, Sam Adams Red Brick Ale and Long Trail Ale. Totally cool. Long Trail is perfect for when you don't want a high ABV. I gotta add too that these guys pour one of the best proper pints of Guiness you'll get this side of the Altlantic Ocean. And also that the bartenders here have claimed All Star status on my list. They mix fantastic drinks and they Get It. My friends and I have forgotten all about Jake N Joes for sure!! The only thing we go elsewhere for now is Golden Tee, so I will use this opportunity to bolster my campaign to get a Golden Tee game into my favorite bar, knowing full well that this will be read. It would fit in the corner by the door... d8D --And I wrote before that the burgers and wings were great, but what I didn't know was that they have a whole world of more intense offerings. I hadn't been there since they remodeled and I wasn't sure what to expect. They did a really nice job remodeling. Their idea seems to be a more Irish pub side of the house and a more American "neighborhood joint" side. The Irish pub side is for conversation and a good Guinness. I'll tell you this though, we went in for burgers and were not disappointed. First, the burgers were cooked perfectly. They were flavorful with a myriad of toppings to choose from. I was stuffed and still had more on the plate. We had the burgers with a Leinenkugel which was the perfect pair for a hot summer night. We didn't have anything else but if you're looking for a well priced, well made, tasty burger, you can't go wrong. The fries were over done but that can happen to anyone. read more

My and my friends had a great time the other night here. Our waitress was very attentive, very quick to refill drinks and take orders even though it was busy. The food is so so, I can only comment on appetizers because that's all I've ever had here. Getting a good pour on a Guinness is a hit or miss. Have been here before and had a decent experience. That didn't happen last night. Waitress took drink orders for everyone at the table except me. These drinks took over 20 minutes to get to us and then I was able to order a drink. We ordered food and after 45+ minutes of waiting we had to leave since we had a show to go to. Not sure why the food never came but we left. If you have half a day to wait for drinks and food this might be a good spot for you but I'll pass. read more

Went to Napper Tandy's last night for a birthday celebration. We were a party of 13, and were lucky enough to find two tables next to each other on the karaoke side. Apps were great, and drinks were good. Unfortunately, the karaoke dj didn't seem to have a great system of getting people up on stage. I was told 3 different times that I had "only 3 more people" ahead of me, and only finally got to get up there when I brought to his attention the fact that he'd said that 3 times over the past hour. Likewise, other members of our party waited upwards of two hours to sing one song. And we were there at the very beginning of the night, so it's not like there should have been that many people ahead of us. The dj insisted on playing a dance song in between every single singer, which just increased the wait time. I'm all for dancing and having fun, and taking a break from the karaoke, but when you have that many people waiting, it just seems kind of unnecessary to do it in between every single song. Our waitress started out good, but the service declined as the night wore on. People who wanted separate checks were told to get their drinks from the bar because she "didn't have time" to do that. I waited tables for a long time, I realize that it can be a pain to have separate checks, but I can't imagine ever telling a customer that I "didn't have time" to wait on them. At the end of the night we had two credit cards and some cash for the bill, and we wrote everything out for her on the check itself, so that it should have been a relatively easy transaction. Her exact response; "Are you serious?" with a definite attitude. I'm sorry, that's just ridiculous. Most people nowadays don't carry cash, and it's a pretty frequent occurrence that you have more than one credit card to deal with. It's not like we handed her 5 cards, just 2. Good food, good people, good atmosphere. Carries the typical bar food, but also has tasty entrees. I like that there are two separate sides, one is more sports bar ambiance, the other more relaxing and upscale. Good spot for an after work drink, and to eat on a Friday or Saturday night. If you work on Washington St. they were also doing some good $5 lunch specials. read more
