Right now, I can't get enough of Nara-ya! I've mainly been for brunch, and their bottomless brunch with small plates is an absolute winner. Each dish is packed with flavor, and I particularly adore the matcha pancakes--they're simply divine! Anything matcha here is a must-try, and their steak and eggs are deliciously green and bursting with taste. The tea is fantastic as well, making it the perfect accompaniment to any meal. I also enjoyed the bottomless mimosas, which were the perfect touch for a lovely brunch experience. Recently, I took my sister, her friend, and another buddy for a midday catch-up, and we all loved the vibes. The ambiance is so inviting, and the atmosphere is super cute in the decor--definitely adds to the charm! The service was solid, too. Do know that I only tried one roll here, but it was delicious! We arrived early for a show at The Anthem and wanted some dinner. I found Nara-Ya on Yelp and was so happy I did! We were seated immediately on a weeknight. It's a really trendy restaurant with some interesting interior design. You do take an elevator up to the space. We got a seat by the windows which we adored. We had a stunning view of the sunset. I forgot which roll my friend got, but she's gluten-free and enjoyed her roll and some spicy edamame. I got the Kaiba King roll which had scallops, crab, and foie gras. There were varied reviews on my roll, but as someone who adores all those things and more simpler rolls, I loved this one. We came to Narayar at The Wharf for brunch and absolutely loved it. The location is stunning we had a corner table overlooking the water, and it made the whole experience feel extra special. Brunch is all you can eat for $55 per person, and honestly, it's such a great value. The dishes come out very quickly, everything is super fresh, and the portion sizes are perfect for sharing between 3-4 people. We got there early, so it was calm and easy to grab a great table, but by the time we were leaving it had definitely picked up it gets busy fast, but there's still plenty of seating. The space itself is extremely clean, bright, and decorated in a modern Asian style that feels upscale but still relaxed. And the food? SO good. My experience at Nara Ya left much to be desired. While I understand restaurants have grace periods, I think its unreasonable that a member of our party showed up within the time period and were not only told she could not be seated, but that our table would be moved. I could understand if the restaurant was packed, but it was barely 50% full. Service was overall slow and we had several different waitstaff come to our table, which was confusing. One of the waiters did give us a round of tasty shots, which was appreciated, did not make up for the experience. I also enjoyed my "Shoguns and unicorns" drink as it was refreshing. The food was overall just okay and definitely not worth the price. The calamari was tender, but the breading was not crispy enough. The fried cauliflower was tasty and my green dragon roll was fine, but again not worth the price especially given they are both vegetarian dishes. Nara-Ya is aesthetic and very picturesque, even more-so in the evening due to it having the best view of the Wharf. Between 4 people our total bill came out to be right around $300, which covered 2 appetizers (pictured), 6 rolls (I ordered the Tempura Crunch and Smoke Break), and 3 alcoholic beverages. The rolls were fairly mediocre in my opinion, and each priced about $20, though the Smoke Break was my favorite of the two I ordered. 20% gratuity is automatically added as well as a 3.5% charge if you're using credit card for payment. Do I feel the experience was worth the price, absolutely not. We were a few minutes late (a person from our party was on time but they refused to seat her) for our reservation and they didn't let us sit at our assigned table (though no one else occupied it the rest of the nice as we were there until closing) so we had to sit at the high tops. Mind you, we called them maybe 10 times on our way there to let them know we were running behind and everytime (no matter what button we pressed on their pre-recorded system) and we were unable to reach someone. Our waiter didn't arrive until after we sat for maybe 30 minutes and he often disappeared--at one point another waiter came over to take our food orders because he was nowhere to be found-- and honestly there was nothing worthwhile about the experience. We dined at Nara-Ya for happy hour this past weekend. Important to note: do note make a reservation for HH in advance. Apparently, it is only available at the bar--a detail not mentioned when making a reservation, despite what the host may claim. I would have rated Nara-Ya 4 stars for its interior design, location, views, and the prices relative to the quality of the food. The sushi was good given the price ($10 for rolls). Sadly, they offer only two gluten-free options: salmon avocado and a vegetarian avocado roll. Despite the owner's claim on their Yelp profile--"We are very happy to have many gluten-free items, or items that can be made gluten-free"--this was not the case. Unlike other high end restaurants that take food restrictions and allergies seriously, the server rudely informed me more than once that NO modifications could be made to the HH menu, even for a gluten allergy. On several occasions, the server had to go to the back to confirm that I was receiving the GF dish. This was disappointing, as I was concerned I might accidentally consume gluten! I had been looking forward to trying other types of sushi, like their tuna rolls, but once again, I was not given the option. One final note: make sure to opt for bottled water. We initially drank tap water, which had small mildew particles floating around. We immediately informed our server and opted for bottled water instead. Not sure why Nara-Ya wasn't on my radar for brunch sooner, but if you're looking for a great place to enjoy bottomless mimosas and AYCE small plates with a group, look no further. Nara-ya has beautiful waterfront views at the wharf with social media content worthy backdrops galore throughout the restaurant space, but they aren't just aesthetically pleasing... Their brunch food is delicious too, with a selection of small plates served family style for the entire party to try everything and if you want more of something you try, they'll bring out additional plates. Some of my favorites were the smoked salmon and avocado toast, crispy brussel sprouts, roasted potatoes, French toast and waffles, spicy salmon roll and the cheesecake cups. I loved that our party had such attentive service from the waitstaff and management team for my friend's birthday so that we never waited long for a thing and our mimosa glasses, water and tea were always replenished quickly. Well, well my God! This place is it! Now, we all know how pricey this area of DC is (well all of DC a pricey, right?) But I am willing to spend big bucks here because this sushi was so good! This is my first time actually sitting and eating at a restaurant at the Warf because I'm usually here just to get some fresh seafood then head home. But I'm so glad I finally made the effort to stop and see what they have available. This was my 2nd restaurant of the night that I tried and if I would have came here first it would have been the only one. The first restaurant was good but for what I paid for it was not it. And I will say I would never go back to that restaurant again. My review on that will come later. But back to this fresh sushi and excellent experience and service. To get to the restaurant you have to go to an elevator and go up a few floors after you walk through the instagram phot ready maze to get to the elevator. Very cute indeed. After eating the elevator you head to the concierge who will show you around the restaurant if it's your first time and find you a place to sit . Because I was by myself I opted for the bar area that has small tables and booth. I'm so glad I opted to try new things instead of going to my regular sushi and was pleasantly surprised when the waiter's recommendations were all on point with the tuna roll, salmon, yellowtail, up to the (2) drinks I tried. I wish I remembered the name of the rolls as drinks but I can't. So if you don't know what to try ask! Now this might come to be a surprise for most but the bathroom toilet has to be mentioned. Besides the bathroom being ultra modern the toilet was it! Had a seat warmer and even a remote for you to use the other options if needed. The food comes out with portion of the table size (so if there's 5 people at the table, there would be enough on the plate for 5 people to eat). You are provided small plates. The food was amazing, so much so I didn't take pictures of everything. The manager was also very caring and paid attention to detail as we had someone allergic to tree nuts. The four of us had an exceptional dinner here as our last meal in Washington DC! We booked reservations for 5:00P on a Friday evening and were seated promptly after a kind welcome from the host. I was impressed by the classy and lavish atmosphere of the dining room, and we enjoyed a view of The Wharf from above. For being considered a more upscale restaurant, the pricing of the sushi was actually pretty reasonable with all the "Specialty Rolls" being $20 or less. All the sushi tasted super fresh and clean. + NARA-YA roll ($18): Spicy salmon, asparagus, sweet miso seared salmon, avocado, crispy quinoa & shiso. This was a simple classic roll and I appreciated how the salmon truly stood out as the star. + SALMON SIZZLER roll ($20): Shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado, garlic habanero seared salmon, habanero garlic oil, spicy mayo, eel sauce & crispy onions. So many flavors and textures melded into this roll. However, considering the elements of habanero that this supposedly had, I actually didn't detect much heat, if at all. + TUNA TRUFFLE roll ($20): White fish, serrano pepper, avocado, Negi, Yellowfin Tuna, sweet truffle soy & scallion. My favorite one! The serrano pepper added a nice crunch and a perfect amount of spice. + ELECTRIC EEL roll ($20): Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, cucumber, eel, avocado, furikake & eel sauce. The eel on top was actually pretty meaty compared to eel rolls I've had elsewhere! I was also pleased with the subtlety of the cream cheese. + THAI RED CURRY SPIDER roll ($19): Tempura soft shell crab, carrot, cucumber, spring lettuce, avocado, eel sauce & cilantro. The pieces of this roll fell apart easily since they're so large, so it was somewhat challenging to eat. With the abundance of veggies, this was a lighter roll, but I found the red curry sauce very overpowering. + CALAMARI ($16): Probably one of best plates of calamari I've had! The light breading was perfectly crispy and lightly salted. Dipping it in the wasabi aioli is a must as it added so much oomph. For dessert, I had the MATCHAMISU ($18), which was okay, but the amount of cream was overwhelming and it didn't have a strong matcha flavor overall. My family liked the YUZU CHEESECAKE ($20), finding it nice and tart. I considered both very pricey considering the serving sizes. At the time we made a reservation, we indicated that we'd be celebrating my dad's birthday, and the staff really made our experience special! Not only did the host wish him a happy birthday when we entered and exited, but our waiter provided us with a complimentary cheesecake bar dessert. Probably the best brunch in DC and we will definitely be back. This is an all you can eat brunch, which is plated and ordered. They have a strict 2hr limit. Which they advertise and respectfully get you served in that timing. The staff is super friendly, prompt and considerate. Almost all the items on the menu were 100% exquisite. We tried to taste everything on the menu. The streak and eggs was large in portion and cooked perfectly. It was by far my favorite. The quality of them items were outstanding. With one shocking exception. The spicy salmon roll. It was terrible! It was poorly cut, too much rice, used scrap meat. There was a bone in my roll. I had to spit it out. The fish did not taste fresh. I would rather eat grocery store sushi than eat that again. I have had the opportunity to fillet about 100 salmon on a trip to Alaska. And I could tell it was the belly region. I was really disappointed. Bc this is a sushi place. I would have complained at the time. But it was all you can eat and I did not specifically pay for this item. Just not very promising for their regular menu But everything else was excellent. The billing structure reduced the overall the affordability of the brunch. It's in the find print when you walk in. 20% gratuity is added to the check. (Not uncommon). DC tax is added after the tipped amount. And lastly there is a 3.5% credit card fee. (That's uncommon.) So if you budget for meals out. Please incorporate these factors. Ambiance is amazing. Amazing time watching the fireworks and boat show for the Xmas holiday celebrations at the wharf. The manager here is fabulous. High energy and welcoming. We have this incredible server, I wish I remembered his name :( . He said he used to work on Rumi's (super high end Persian restaurant in dc), and you could tell that was the caliber of service he was bringing. I was excited to try Nara-ya's happy hour. However, our visit didn't go as planned. We were seated in the dining area until we asked for the happy hour menus, at which point we were moved to the bar. Our server was informed of our allergy restrictions (one celiac, one shellfish allergy). From the get-go the served seemed annoyed when asked questions about the menu or substitution. Our party of five, tried several items from the HH menu, while I had the salmon avocado sushi and edamame. The restaurant claims to take dietary restrictions seriously, but every time a plate arrived, the servers had to go back to the kitchen to verify which items were actually gluten-free. At one point, one of the serves made a comment stating, "They're all the same." This obviously concerned us. The food I tried was decent--nothing special, but good for the price. About halfway through our meal, we noticed that the water had floating mold particles (see photos). We let our server know and asked for a new glass of water, but it had the same moldy particles. So, we immediately ordered bottled water to finish our meal. Interesting enough, we were not charged for the bottled water due to the inconvenience. Sadly, it was not a great experience for us. Therefore, I'm giving the restaurant 2 stars because the staff weren't the friendliest :( and the moldy water definitely made me lose my appetite that evening. read more

I had brunch at Nara-Ya a few weeks ago when I was staying in the Wharf area and, while I liked it, the food I ordered was a little hit or miss. Nara-Ya offers an all-you-can-eat brunch for $40 per person. If you want bottomless mimosas, that's another $25 per person. The dishes were appropriately very small, so we were able to try quite a bit off the menu: octopus takoyaki, pork dumplings, steak & eggs, tamago omelette, teriyaki tofu skewers, chicken and waffles, smoked salmon toast, California roll, and spicy salmon roll. Of these, the takoyaki was easily my favorite; the rest ranged from meh to pretty good in my opinion. I enjoyed my Bloody Mary more than most of the dishes, and my husband enjoyed his cocktail as well (I should also say that he enjoyed the food more than me). I imagine the decor is really a selling feature for Nara-Ya - wall paper, neon lights, pink, ... there's a lot to see here. It definitely gives off girls' Instagram brunch vibes, bachelorette party vibes. For me, it was a little too much, a little style over substance. We came for brunch and I highly recommend this spot. Not only do they have a really great brunch deal ($40 pp all you can eat) but the food is incredible. The location is also unmatched with the beautiful views of the wharf. As someone who struggles with a sesame allergy, I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the restaurant for taking every precaution to keep me safe. They even went so far as to talk to the kitchen and have them mark items on the menu that were safe for me to eat and ones to avoid. It really meant a lot to see how much they cared. The food items I had were delicious and my fiancé, who was able to eat everything, really enjoyed the meal as well. We will definitely be coming back! read more

Service was exceptional, I came in with a very specific allergy and they were able to accommodate which is definitely something they didn't have to do. I've been to Nara Ya a few times and the service is always exceptional here. Everything we had was delicious, the only thing I didn't really like was the chicken. Just 4 pieces of fried chicken. I thought it would be a rotisserie chicken based on how the waiter was describing it but I was wrong. It wasn't terrible but would have preferred non fried food A5 Wagyu was really good, the lobster dynamite may have only had 8 pieces but super filling! read more
