Daikaya Ramen is an unassuming spot serving some seriously flavorful ramen in DC. If you're a ramen lover, this place is definitely worth seeking out. We ordered the Spicy Miso with the spice bomb and egg, along with the veggie ramen with spice bomb. The Spicy Miso was the clear winner--easily one of the most flavorful ramen bowls I've had, with just the right kick and incredible depth. The veggie ramen was also excellent and a great option for vegetarians. We also tried the gyoza, spring rolls, and Sapporo beer. For dessert, we ordered the black sesame ice cream, but the ramen portions were so generous that we were too full to finish it! Service was quick, attentive, and efficient. Let me start by saying I recently visited Daikaya on Monday, August 3, 2026, and unfortunately the service that day was disappointing. I gave that particular visit 1 out of 5 stars. However, I also want to mention that Daikaya is one of my family's favorite ramen spots, so we were genuinely surprised by the experience because it has always been much better in the past. When we arrived, we were told that our entire party had to be present before we could be seated, which we understood. We also know that seating is first come, first served. In the past, we've been able to sit in a booth with two people, but this time we were informed that booths were reserved for parties of three or more. It was a little frustrating because the restaurant was slow at the time, and my wife politely explained that we would likely be finished before the dinner rush. Even so, we respected the policy and waited until a seat became available. I do want to give Terry a shoutout because he was very kind and professional. I explained that I couldn't sit at the bar due to my foot, and he was understanding. However, when he relayed that information to another employee, I immediately noticed a change in the other gentleman's body language and attitude. He seemed irritated about having to seat us. Once we were seated, the interaction only became more uncomfortable. He slammed our cups onto the table, and when I asked for a straw, he didn't hand it to me--he simply placed it down without saying much. There were several other small interactions throughout our meal that made us feel unwelcome. It reached the point where we decided we'd rather leave, so we flagged Terry down, asked for to-go containers, and requested the check. During our visit, I also noticed a party of four seat themselves and grab their own menus while both servers had their backs turned at the bar. When the same gentleman approached them, his demeanor was completely different. He was pleasant, took their order right away, and their food came out promptly. Watching that interaction made our experience feel even more disappointing. The food, thankfully, was excellent as always. That's one thing Daikaya continues to get right. I also noticed that none of the staff members we're used to seeing--who have always been warm, welcoming, and respectful--were working that day. Overall, this visit was a rare disappointment because the customer service simply wasn't up to the standard we've experienced over the years. While this particular experience deserves a low rating, I also want to acknowledge that every previous visit has been excellent. I'm hoping this was just an off day because Daikaya has consistently been one of our favorite places for ramen. read more

Daikaya -- Washington, DC Walked in expecting a solid bowl at a shrine to Sapporo-style ramen and left feeling swindled by a soup that tasted like it had never been to Japan. This wasn't a bad day in the kitchen -- this was a fundamental misunderstanding of what Ramen is supposed to do. The Breakdown Broth: F -- I ordered the shoyu. It's way too simple, flat, and an insult to the bowl it was served in. Does it really take 16 hours to make soup that tastes like beef broth bought at Walgreens? I'm not a heavy oil person but there was also a noticeable lack of oil to give the soup any depth either. Is anyone in the kitchen tasting the soup or had ramen before? Genuinely puzzled by how bad this is. This would never fly in Japan. It shouldn't be ok here either. Noodles: B -- honestly the only competent part of this bowl. They say they're shipped in from Japan. Protein: F -- a pile of unseasoned ground pork sitting next to massive slice of chashu so bland it made me question the pig. What are we doing here? This is too much poor meat. Quantity over flavor, and it showed. Toppings: C -- the egg was tasted great, perhaps the most flavorful part of the meal, but half of it was warm and half was cold. Green onions seemed to be all the green bits from the top and none of the white parts on the bottom. And then -- the cucumber salad. A tiny $10 side dish for a quarter of a cucumber in soy sauce and sesame seed oil. Charging this much for such a small quantity is it's own kind of crime. Mind you, it tasted fine but I really expected more and it's ultimately what bumped this 2 star review down to 1 star. Overall: My Japanese ramen radar was blaring "fake ramen" the whole time at this place. This felt like a Ramen place run by people who had never been to Japan. And while that is ok, if you end up serving ramen that's so lacking in redeeming qualities then I have to call it a failure. That bad pricing on top of that is just a kick in the nuts. On a freezing, snowy day, there's truly nothing better than steaming bowl of good ramen, which is exactly what Daikaya delivered. Their ramen is Sapporo style, essentially meaning that the toppings are stir-fried first and then added to the broth. I got the Veggie ramen, which was packed with well-cooked veggies (bean sprouts, onions, carrots, snow peas, Brussel sprouts, braise shiitake mushrooms, woodear mushrooms, scallions, nori). The broth was super savory and not too salty. The noodles had great chew. I added a bit of my friend's spice bomb, which took it to the next level. Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance was casual. The flavor profile of the broth was full bodied, creamy and robust even with a touch of nuttiness. The shoyu ramen bowl was dark, smoky and salty to an extent. A few things to note for a smoother visit: -Due to frequent foot traffic and limited seating, Daikaya enforces a strict policy that does not allow holding tables for incomplete parties (even for 2 people). -Parties of 2 are typically sat next to each other not across from one another (even upon request). -Pork is the primary protein choice (no chicken option available). -Stools are fairly short. What could be better than a warm bowl of ramen on a frigid winter night. Located right across the street from the stadium, Daikaya is a poppin spot that looks like it's alway busy (for good reason). My coworkers and I came to Daikaya after our holiday party and were quickly seated in the far back where they have the large table. The menu is limited to several ramens, extra toppings and a few side options. Most of us ordered the Shoyu, which I did as well. The waiter came through and checked on us, taking our order and bringing out the ramen quickly. It was really good, I'm not a HUGE fan of shoyu ramen (personally, my fave is tonkotsu broth) but this was really good. The gyoza was also really good and tasted freshly made. The waiter also brought us a pitcher of water to serve ourselves. The decor is super cute with nods to JPOP bands, historical sites and pop culture in Japan across the wall. RAMEN SNOB ALERT! Having spent 5 years in Japan we are always on the hunt for authentic Japanese ramen. This spot ranks right up there! The place itself is small, very Japan-esque. Smells coming from the open air kitchen flow out the front door and they are mouth watering scents! We sat in the back for our party of 5, which is a very secluded back of the restaurant spot. Very cool Japanese wall photos. Our server Carl was on point with the orders. You don't think he's listening because the pens not moving but he got every order on point! The ramen itself is absolutely delicious! Gyoza as well, very crispy. The ramen noodles are flown in from Japan, and they are the BEST! My buddy and I got the Super Spicy and I'm telling you, I love spice but this is next level. Ghost peppers, Carolina reapers and 18 other peppers.... WE ASKED! I will say, I finished my whole bowl. After the initial shock and awe, it was ok. Absolutely DELIGHTFUL experience at Daikaya Ramen Shop last weekend. We came here during off hours when it was raining, and managed to grab a table without having to wait. It should be noted that the A/C is quite powerful in there, especially if you are under a vent. Good thing you're about to have soup! Here, we want to shoutout our server Elmer (we think that's his name!) who was a hero in terms of relocating us from stools to a booth and lowering the music, which was really, really loud. We've gotten so used to not having good customer service that it really shines when you actually get it. Promote Elmer! The ramen here is capital-E Excellent. All of us ordered different ones, and all of them were beyond delicious. The broths are so flavorful, and we appreciated the ground pork (we didn't love the chashu because the meat was a bit tough). The noodles had a great bite to them. Our daughter got the shio, which was perfect for her because it was the most simple one. One of us got the shoyu, which has more depth, and ordered it with the extra veggies on top. The other one got the spicy shoyu, and that one had the right amount of kick--like, legitimately spicy, but you're not writhing in pain. We wish there were some fresh starters on the menu (like a cucumber salad, etc), but there's only fried stuff. Finally, we need to mention that the soft serve sesame ice cream was NEXT LEVEL. Like, do not NOT order it. So creamy, so smooth, perfect balance of sweet and salty--it essentially tasted like frozen halva. We would go back just for the ice cream alone!! Never change that flavor! This ramen had me reminiscing over my time spent in Japan. The whole experience felt familiar, from the long table seating to the busy chefs to the body and bite of the noodles. It's nice to have such a great ramen place in DC! I went for an early dinner on a weekday, so there was no wait. It's small inside with only a few tables, and most of the seating is communal. I had heard rave reviews about this place, which is why I finally decided to check it out. The space is small and cozy, but we went on a Monday and were seated immediately. Since there were only two of us, we shared an eight-person table with three other couples, which gave it a very authentic Japanese ramen shop vibe. Our server was attentive from the start. As soon as he finished taking our order, he asked if anyone needed a fork. I really appreciated that, since I don't know how to use chopsticks and didn't have to awkwardly ask for one myself. We started with the gyoza, which were so crispy and flavorful that we ended up ordering a second plate. For ramen, we tried the tsukemen, which comes with cold noodles that you dip into a rich, soy-forward broth. It was an interesting experience, but after a while the repetitive dipping became a bit tedious for me. We also ordered the spicy miso ramen, which was my favorite of the two. Was not a fan of Daikaya. Service was quick but the place was a little dirty. There were finger prints and smears all over the glass front door and looked like it hadn't been wiped down in a while. I ordered the tomato curry ramen. The flavor of the broth was okay, but not really complex or developed. The chashu pork was cold and had a funky pork taste that's usually mellowed out by other flavors, which were absent. It was also cut really thick, which made it harder to chew. I think there's a larger izakaya restaurant upstairs but we didn't investigate. We waited for only a couple minutes before getting seated but I can definitely see it having a long wait on the weekends. I ordered the shio and it was excellent. I'm not the biggest ramen person but the noodles tasted fresh and chewy! I really liked the ground pork and chashu toppings. I had no leftovers and thought the portion size was perfect! It was ok, but super salty. We got spicy miso, regular miso, and soyu and each was super salty. Also, I don't meant to be so picky but they could have done a little more. I feel like for the price they charged (around 20 dollars or more for each.. our bill was 80 for 3), they could have added a little more maybe bok Choy or maybe some other greens or maybe a little bit of Julienned carrots. When we got our bowls, it didn't look appetizing at all. We all eat with our eyes first! Like if it looked more appealing with some added veggies than it would have also tasted better too. It would have helped it not be so salty, plus it would have looked more substantial. I was shocked at how small the bowl was and how it was only half full. After searching online for the "best bowl of ramen in DC" I was led to Daikaya. Centrally located, it's very easy to get here via metro or uber. A smaller location, this is reminiscent of actual ramen spots in Japan. I recommend you get in, get your ramen, and leave if you're done and you see it filling up. I am personally a spicy ramen girl, I love that there were ample options for spicy, flavorful options and having been to a few ramen spots in DC, I do think this place deserves to be toward the top of the list. It's been awhile since we've been too daikaya but luckily we were able to visit on a Monday (before the caps game). They were closing early but it was actually the fastest we have ever gotten a table (less than 5 minutes) which was great! I tried the shoyu ramen this time with extra chashu and really looked the flavor of the broth. Also the toppings were plentiful. My husband for the spicy miso ramen which was also delicious. And we had the gyoza appetizer (which was fine but the highlight is still the ramen) and a couple bottles of sake. After Awesome Con I finally got to try Daikaya! I have tried to go a few times before, but I was always with people and we never had a reservation, so we couldn't get in. But since I was solo, it was great! It was Saturday evening, and when i walked in I was seated at a communal table. I haven't sat at one of those in a long time! I was provided water almost immediately and given the menu. My mission was the ramen, but I was unsure of which one to try! I do like my ramen spicy, so I decided to go for the super spicy shoyu ramen. It came within minutes and it was time to dig in! The noodles was firm and the broth was tasty. You could literally see all the spicy chili on top. I have to admit, I have a higher heat tolerance than most people I know... and I was almost overwhelmed by the heat of the super spicy shoyu ramen! I powered through and finished, and overall enjoyed my meal... but I had to blow my nose like 3 times when I left. WHEW! That is some of the spiciest ramen I have ever had, truly! Daikaya Ramen Shop was a cool spot to go to for a short weekend trip. I was told this was the place to go and one of the best ramen places to must try when exploring Washington, DC. I had the Shio ramen. I wanted to give it a try especially because the broth is prepped for many hours and once served, it is as delicious with all ingredients. The ramen was fresh amd soft, it was my first time tasting Brussels sprouts in ramen and I didn't mind it at all. We ordered the spring rolls as an appetizer. It was served with a habanero sauce on the side. Diving into our ramen and getting full from other, I almost forgot to try the spring rolls. The restaurant was small, spacious enough for small groups or options to sit across the table with other customers. The way it us set up, it gives it a hip and savvy vibe. Came here on veteran's day which was super windy. Great bow of hot ramen! Be prepared for some stool action. Piping hot broth. Came here several times and that day, the Char sui felt less that usual but overall still enjoyed it. read more

This is one of my favorite ramen bars in the district. It's pretty small inside with limited community style seating. There's also high top bar seating available. There's a few booths but they require a party size minimum for these seats. The ramen is made following a traditional recipe with a very flavorful broth. I like to add corn, sometimes a soft boiled egg, and a spice bomb to add a kick of heat. read more

My boyfriend loves all Ramen but THIS is our favorite ramen in the DMV. Anytime we are at capital one, it's a must have (which means we go a lot!) It can be busy but I've always have great experiences with their service. It's great location with lots to do around. Highly reccomend coming here and trying the menu. There's something for everyone! read more
