Chicken salad is not good!! Grizzly,chewy, fatty and over salted. It's not what I expected. Very disappointed.

When they were one location they were good. Now they're just like subway. Bulk things up with lettuce instead of meat.

Everything is everything But you're missing (Bruce Springsteen) Nardelli's has around 40 sandwiches on their impressive menu, and you can order most of them with "Everything". Just be aware that "Everything" has a special meaning here -because when you ask for the E word, you'll get Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, a Classic Mix of diced veggies, Provolone Cheese, Olives & Hot Sauce. I'll bet you a nickel that not everyone in your household wants their definition of "Everything" on their lunch. There are so many Nardulli's scattered across the Nutmeg State (15 per their website) you may take them for granted. But walking into their Southington store last night (thank you Local Flavor for your great deal), I was reminded of just how great this chain is. Sandwich fixings are enticingly laid out in their counter cases, so you can point at what you want and order it as a cold, hot, whole, half, or wrap sandwich. Whole sandwiches are around ten bucks and halves are about seven and a half. Definitely order a whole- they are so massive you will easily get 2 meals out of it. I went for a whole Prosciutto Hot Pepper Chicken sandwich but deciding what would be inside my sandwich was only half of my selection process. Next, I needed to decide HOW it would be built -either with Marinara Sauce OR with the aforementioned "Everything". Wow was my half a sandwich great (the rest is for tomorrow). First of all the bread was STELLAR!! Soft and pillowy it was just about perfect! The chicken cutlet was moist and juicy with not a shred of overcooked toughness. Add in the marinara sauce, cheese, and thinly sliced hot peppers and it became a collaborative effort of greatness! My wife went for a whole Ham and Cheese sandwich with "Everything" less a few of the everythings. Her sandwich was piled high and half came home with us too. To get over our coupon minimum we added a slice of red velvet cake (excellent!), and a pound of seafood-shrimp salad to go. Can't wait to try that today -it looked amazing. We enjoyed everything about Nardelli's -the service was chill and friendly, the menu boards were easy to read, the goods were clearly displayed and labeled in front of you, and the dining room was bright and comfortable. UPDATED REVIEW: Fast forward 5+ years...Nardelli's STILL has no other heating devices than a "high-powered microwave". Despite my concerns in 2017.... Ordered meatball/sausage grinder, to be heated at home. I refuse to believe it's a training issue as much as clueless employee...but do you need to specify OH YEAH...I WANT SAUCE on a meatball grinder??!! Side of sauce s/b standard w/ fried mozzarella, no? The attached photo speaks for itself as well. So should I have opened my entire fkng order while on site to ensure everything was in order? APPARENTLY. Or...do I drive all the way back down Rt 10 to procure the missing sauces? NOT HAPPENING. Sadly, it should be obvious I'm pretty much moving on from Nardelli's at this point. So I was driving by and on a whim decided to stop because I haven't had Nardelli's in years as there are none close to me. I was excited to try the Italian combo based on what the menu said the Italian combo was. I am not sure if the person making the sandwich didn't know what was on Italian combo but the picture attached here is what I got versus what the menu actually says. Highly disappointed. The only reason I gave two stars is because there was a lot of meat but I picked off one piece of each and did not finish the rest. It was just legit meat and bread...no cheese, no lettuce, no tomato no classic mix (which I was most excited about) no olives and no hot sauce. Dropped in after a bike ride along the Farmington Canal Heritage Rail Trail for lunch. We each got a whole sandwich to ourselves and woah, these sandwiches are huge! They really give you plenty to share for one sandwich. Tried the world famous Italian sandwich and it was good but wished we asked for oil and vinegar. There was too much mayo that the bread fell apart and it was difficult to eat. The chicken cutlet was really good and the hot sauce was a great addition. Very nice deli with lots of prepared foods and the service was quick and very pleasant. Glad we dropped in and tried this place for the first time! read more

On a recent visit I utilized the Grubhub takeout order option. The order was a 1/2 Chicken Cutlet with Mayo, L&T, Cheese, Classic MixTM (Diced Veggies) and Olives on Italian bread. There is a reason I am being so descriptive in my order details. The Grubhub estimate was originally 20 minutes, which was acceptable and expected. The reality: I understand that mistakes happen but this is ridiculous. The wait time was updated to 35 minutes, not horrible but based on what I received it was ludicrous. I picked up my sandwich order and luckily I opened the package in my car before I got home. The reveal: To my dismay I received a small piece of Italian bread with Mayo and a puny sized chicken cutlet. The sandwich was missing the L&T, Cheese, Classic MixTM (Diced Veggies) and Olives. I brought the "sandwich" back into the store and asked "Who would pay $8.00 for a tiny piece of chicken on a piece of bread, especially when I ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich with everything on it". The response was "I didn't take your order, so I don't know what you want me to do". As this back and forth is progressing a customer behind me stated out loud "I had the same problem last week with a chicken cutlet order". At this time the manager came over and advised, "we read the order incorrectly, give us a few minutes to make another one". I replied I am now going on 45 minutes for a simple sandwich order and instead requested a refund. The outcome: The manager advised that since it is a Grubhub order they can't provide a refund and I must contact Grubhub directly. I leave the "sandwich" on the counter and adjourn to my car to start the refund process with Grubhub, out of principal (not out of spite, I'm no Jerry Seinfeld). The one upside, upon contacting Grubhub, the customer service was quick and easily issued the refund on my sandwich. I have visited Nardelli's many times throughout the years, especially in their flagship Waterbury location without issue and experienced great grinders. However on more recent visits, this isn't the first time the quality of their product has been lacking. Maybe they grew too big too fast but I'm staying away for a while based on this experience. read more

Came back to Connecticut for a wedding and couldn't pass by a Nardelli's without getting a sub! This was my go-to sandwich shop when I lived in the Nutmeg state and it's one of the things I actually miss about Connecticut. I came here Saturday afternoon and ended up getting a half bbq bacon cheddar chicken sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. On top of getting a great sub this place makes there own Pop and I ended up getting a vanilla soda to go along with it. Nardelli's is the kind of place that you know you'll get a fresh sandwich at a reasonable price. We love Nardellis no matter the location. This location is conveniently located in the same Plaza as the pet store where I buy my dog food. So, when the dog needs food, I get Nardellis. Seriously though the grinders are large, and worth every penny. I haven't had a huge selection of their prepared foods, but the potato salad was scrumptious. The best value for the dollar is the kids meal: sandwich, chips cookie, and a soft drink for one low price. In the nice weather they have a few tables of patio seating. read more

I was on my way to the ice cream shop when my fiance recommended this place to eat. Being a jersey girl I don't mess with too many Italian spots out here. As soon as I walked in it felt like the deli at home. Beautiful selections of premade food and the menu was simple. We ended up doing an Italian combo with the works. Asked for my usual veggie grinder..... Lettuce, tomato, onion, olives, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, banana peppers and pickles. Came home to this EMPTY sandwich. Woohoo I'm not a sandwich kinda girl but getting a grinder from Nardeli' almost had me converted. The grinders here are wide and overstuffed! Prices run similar to other sandwich place in town but seriously getting a grinder from here will lasts three days even for someone who eats constantly like me. For $8 I felt I was getting more than what I asked for. The hot chicken is pretty amazing. I got all the fixing and wasn't charged extra. Will be back when out with people who enjoy grinders. Applaud Nardelli's for its Covid 19 protocols and can't tell you how wonderful it has been during the last few months to be able to order my chicken salad grinder. Purchased chicken salad on 8-22-2020 and found not only the chicken salad very salty but the chicken was not the same high quality white meat that it has been in the past. My husband purchased it and after he got home with it, I went to make my sandwich and I could tell immediately something was not the same. I'm a huge Nardelli's fan. I've eaten at the Waterbury and Naugatuck branches as well, but the particular meal I'm reviewing is from the Southington branch (though to be honest there's not a huge difference between any of them). I love how much meat they put on the grinder. Mine had the perfect amount, and my grandfather's Italian grinder couldn't even hold itself together because of how much meat was on it. Sometimes it's a little much, but more is more, right? The meat is always such high quality and flavorful, and the bread is perfect. It's the exact texture that makes a great sandwich. I think I've always gotten a ham, salami, and pepperoni sandwich at the Southington branch, but I've had a mozzarella and pepperoni grinder in Waterbury that is fantastic, and as I've said there's a high degree of similarity between all of them. Ultimately would highly recommend checking this place out, because it's my go-to sandwich place. read more

"Hand's Down", THE BEST grinder shoppe on the planet!! Everything is SO fresh and tasty! I always purchase Nardelli's gift cards for friends and family at Christmastime and ALWAYS treat myself to one as well. Fortunately, I live very close to the Southington location on Queen St., so I call and my grinder is ready when I walk through the door. Nardelli's is one of my favorite quick meal options! They have great food and great service. Today I stopped for myself (seafood salad and tossed salad) and my son (footlong pulled pork). Later, my husband asked for a pulled pork sandwich so I returned. The person who helped me remembered that I was there earlier and asked if we enjoyed the items I ordered earlier. Typically one of my families favorite places. However, I'm dissatisfied. My mother had been in recently and brought home food. She was specific about what cannot be on my grinder and what could. I'm allergic to dairy. There ended up being cheese on it. Typically I'd just take it off. But there was also hot sauce which my mother said not to put on. Since I'm unable to have that either. I'll just make something else. The point is that what if I took a bite and was deathly allergic. You guys need to communicate better. #1 grinder my foot. I was excited to try this place do to the positive Yelp reviews and awards. Wow, what a disappointment. I got a half of a grinder, eggplant parm to be exact. First of all, I'm used to REAL grinders in Hartford, where a half, is a whole to this place. It was like eating a 1/4 grinder from what I'm used to. OK, but for $6 I expect more. Whatever. Second, the guy microwaves my grinder, bread and all. Wtf!!! I was mortified. The eggplant became very mooshy, literally like eating baby food. Gross. No flavor either, whoever like this eggplant has never, ever, had good eggplant in their life. Trust me. Now this is hands down better then subway, but I lost respect for this place when I found out an Italian sub comes with mayonnaise on it. Real Italian subs are served with a nice Italian vinaigrette or something similar any Real Italian would call mayo on an Italian grinder blasphemy. You couldn't get onion on your grinder, instead you had to order this frozen veggie mix which was 90% green bell pepper. On top of that the tomatoes were green (in August when you can get fresh tomatoes everywhere for cheap) and the meat was fatty and not cut thin. The bread was however amazing and worth a return visit especially considerethe whole large sub was only 9.50$ out the door. UPDATE: Tried the Turkey Sub was very good +1 star! read more

First, not being from CT, I feel silly calling a sandwich a "grinder." Second, call it what you want, the bacon, mushroom, and chicken grinder was the best $4 sandwich I've ever had. "Well Phil," you might say. "you were totally stoned, so anything would taste good." To which I reply, "Nonsense. I've eaten nasty food when high and I know a good deal when I eat it. But in this case, I agree." Nardelli's is within walking distance of the hotel my husband and I stayed in so I consider proximity in this review. We don't drive if we've entertained Mary-Jane. Located in a convenient strip mall hear the Price Chopper and Ocean State Job Lot, I'd recomend Nardell's to sate tour post-discount shopping hunger. We staggered over there after a schmoke fest and were greeted by a layout of various meats, cheeses, veggies and pastries. Not by the staff who seemed annoyed to deal with us. Maybe our blood shot eyes gave us away and they were jealous. CT really needs to decriminalize already. We called in our order so it was ready for us (hooray no wait!) It smelled delicious. I was disappointed to discover the chicken cutlet was a processed chicken patty; a fact that became apparent halfway thru my chow-fest. There wasn't much bacon and the mushrooms were canned. Although the processed chicken texture was off-putting, the grinder's over-all flavor was fantastic enhanced by the bread. Damn, their bread is good! Herbal enhancement adds a star to Nardelli's. Not being a fan of driving over to Waterbury, I was happy when I found out Nardelli's was opening up a location in Southington which is a much closer drive for me. Each time I have gone, I've gotten the Italian combo grinder, which is the standard bearer and barometer for any Italian grinder shoppe. It is loaded with meats and veggies, and the only thing I'd change about the grinder is the bread. It's a tad too thick and bready for my taste and somewhat dilutes the amazing flavors going on inside the grinder. I swear I'll sometime make an effort to try some of the other grinders on the menu, or at the very least some of their plethora of sides, but every time I visit, I just want that Italian combo, which at least shows they're doing it right! read more

This is a very good sandwich (& salad & soup) option to have in S-town. We've had the chicken cutlet, meatball parm, italian combo, chicken salad, tuna salad, several sides, a couple soups, and several salads. There are probably a few sandwiches I am forgetting. I don't recall being disappointed by any, in fact we have been mostly pleasantly satisfied. It's one of our favorite non-pizza options in town. Nardelli's continues at a consistently high level in all areas. The service is without exception friendly, and unrushed with a dedication to getting the customer order just right. The restaurant is always clean and bright, a pleasure whether doing takeout or eating in. It very quickly became a favorite when they opened and remains so. My family enjoys their salads especially the potato, macaroni and chicken salads. Also very good are the eggplant parmigian grinder and turkey wrap. The chicken cutlet grinder is a great choice too. Their tortellini salad and Cole slaw are excellent. And for desserts, I have had the cherry cheesecake and canoli. I brought canolis to a get together with friends and we all agreed they were the best we ever had. Thanks to all at Nardelli's for the hard work and dedication.
