We had a great experience at the new Mill. For the moment we walked in, our waitress was attentive and easy to work with. The restaurant was still decorated for the holidays and everything looked beautiful from the lights and wreaths to all the fireplaces. After we arrived they brought out bread with some oil, parmesan and chili flakes for dipping. For our entrees, we tried the Filet, the Asian salmon and the shrimp and chicken dish. Joined friends here for a Post Christmas dinner couples date; it was the perfect spot, quaint, beautifully decorated and despite being very popular, not at all noisy - we we able to speak and he heard in a normal tone. Loved this place. MAKE A Reservation at holiday season. We came at Christmas time and we had to book ahead weeks in advance. The parking lot is huge and it was difficult to find a spot, ladies have your gentlemen leave you at the front door . Inside is decorated beautifully, not over decorated, but cozy and home like feeling. The staff was wonderful and super friendly. They worked around every single allergy of mine and were wonderful about all of it. The food was delicious and the portions are gracious. The outside I noted had a little pond but honestly we didn't get to check out every detail of the place because let's face it, it's New England in December ... it's freezing cold outside and I was in a skirt. We came here on a Saturday night and the place was packed so good thing we got a reservation. The menu was not too expansive but I went with the short rib that fell off the bone. Wow! The New Mill is my new spot! Everything was perfect including the grounds! Walking in was even enchanting with a garden, bridge and a mill right outside the entrance. The red bar like building has so much charm and character, it made you feel cozy and reminded me a a house similar to Snow White's. The service was superb. Each staff member from hosting/greeting, our server, the manager and even the bussers were so polite and welcoming. My first time at this restaurant and it was a 10/10. They started us off with fresh bread a s olive oil. They also had a special of the short rib with green beans and mash potatoes that my daughter ordered. I ordered the stuffed cod with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Of course I had to try some of hers and both were phenomenal, I couldn't even pick which one was better! I ordered a Josh Cabernet to enjoy with my meal. The portions were generous that I packed half my meal to go and saved room for dessert. Once they told me they made a homemade cheesecake I was sold. They also had a seasonal bread pudding I could not pass up either so we had both. I was celebrating a birthday of someone who is no longer with us and let the server know and they placed a candle on the cake which went the extra mile and made this experience perfect. New Mill has usually been our go-to spot for a nice dinner with friends and family--we've been coming here since it was the Old Mill. Unfortunately, this visit was a bit odd. There was a $1 upcharge for a Luxardo cherry on a $15 Manhattan. Even stranger, two people at the table ordered the same Manhattan, yet only one was charged the extra dollar. I probably would have let it go, but on my way out I casually mentioned it to the manager and suggested that if the ingredient cost is an issue, they might consider simply pricing the drink accordingly rather than adding a separate charge. His only response was that Luxardo cherries are expensive--which wasn't quite the response I expected. Of course they're expensive--that's why the drink is already $15. The issue isn't the dollar itself, but the inconsistency and the tone, especially at a table with a $400 dinner bill. Small details like that shape how guests remember an experience. There are many great dining options in the Southington area, and this just isn't the kind of detail I'd want my guests to leave thinking about. But maybe that's just me. read more

We went to celebrate my grandfather's birthday and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our server, Caitlin, was super attentive and even gave my mom a great suggestion of cooking her filet mignon medium rare plus, which we had never heard of before, but it came out exactly the way my mom wanted! From start to finish we had the best experience. We were sat and less than a minute later Jen, our server was at our table full of energy and smiles. Our cocktails were served quickly and were perfectly balanced. They accommodated my request for a decaffeinated espresso martini and it was delicious! We got the potstickers that came out hot, fresh and just crispy enough! The sauce was sweet and savory. 2 of us got the pork chop...let me tell you. 10/10. Full of flavor, moist, with a nice charred crust. The other 2 dishes were sea Bass and salmon. Every one was super satisfied with their meals! The Christmas decorations make the ambiance great and Jen even took multiple pictures of us so we can hold on to the memories of a perfect night! The wait staff are always excellent, the kitchen organized and food comes out in a very timely manner. The portions are healthy and the food is good. There the problem comes in is if you want to plan a special event. I have tried twice once for a small wedding and another for a 90th birthday party. Both times I ran into problems and the worst part of it is the General Manager made so much worse. David Jenkins is rude and condescending! He should not interact with customers because he is terrible at it. The restaurant is definitely a local favorite as it was fairly busy for a Tuesday evening! The server suggested their marquis appetizer: Spiedini Alla Romano (made with mozzarella, battered/fried, and served with a light tomato sauce). I tried it, and it was pretty good, but nothing out of this world! Although Broccoli Rabe was good! For the main entrée, I ordered a very nice NY strip and it was very yummy! Always a favorite dinner spot. You cannot go wrong with any of the pasta options. They always have incredible specials to offer, and the list is not short! What a gorgeous restaurant! My parents have been raving about New Mill so on my visit to CT, I made sure we came for dinner. The inside is decorated so adorably for Christmas! It is the definition of cozy cabin feels! The service was beyond outstanding. We were a party of seven and everyone was tended to promptly. We had some drinks and appetizers to start including crab cakes, beet salads, calamari, and broccoli rabe with sausage. All were delicious! We had a really fantastic experience at the New Mill last night. We have lived in Southington for a few years now but this was our first time venturing to the New Mill. We actually received a gift certificate and I'm so glad we did. My husband and I feel that through covid, a lot of restaurants have really gone downhill and we've been having a hard time finding a meal we've truly enjoyed lately. New Mill did not disappoint...at all!! We started with clams casino. Very tasty! We've grown up on the RI shores clamming ourselves. My family has been making traditional clam casino for 60 years and these are the closest to my family's recipe - sweet and simple - clams, bacon, peppers and onions. Broil until bacon is crispy - AMAZING! For dinner, I had a 16 oz NY strip special. It was cooked absolutely perfectly medium. It was served with delicious shaved Brussels with bacon and a mashed potato cake that was the perfect accompaniment. My husband had the cavatelli with caramelized pearl onions, sliced cherry peppers and Italian sausage. Soooooooo good!!! We just thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and our time out. So so GOOD! We had just been served our appetizers when a busboy came over and asked if he could take our plates. We hadn't even taken 2 bites of our food. My husband had the most amazing steak here years ago and we've vowed to go back. We went when the patio was closed. The view is beautiful.

This place is cute and has a very cozy atmosphere. Seems like it has a lot of regular customers. As a vegetarian, the menu wasn't that appealing to me. Not a lot of vegetarian options listed, and when I ordered the beet salad, the waitress asked me if I was sure that's all I wanted and was I sure I didn't want a protein on it. I could've gotten a pasta dish without the chicken, I guess, but I didn't really want that. Although the place was packed all night, you would never know it from the very attentive service that we received. Ordered the Maple glazed center cut pork chop for pick up and when I got home and cut it open the meat was spongy and full of these tiny holes . I asked my friend who is a chef if it was safe to eat and he said it looks like either it's riddled with trichinosis or it was frozen, thawed and frozen again and the holes were from bacterial spoilage and fermentation. I hadn't been to this restaurant in years, and don't really know why because it had always been good. I went back again last night with a party of four, and it was even better than I remembered. The whole table agreed that the food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. Too many mediocre restaurants have jacked up prices to ridiculous levels. In comparison, New Mill is quite reasonable, especially given the high quality. The throngs of cars in the parking lot made us a bit nervous going in, but to our surprise, the noise level was actually pretty tame. Every seat in the bar was filled with people eating, not just drinking. Compared with so many other restaurants that cater to huge bar crowds, New Mill is a civilized experience. read more

Definitely some pros and cons. To start positive, the service was fantastic. Very attentive, quick, and efficient. We came here on Valentine's Day and had a 830 reservation and we were out by 930 pm. Our waitress was wonderful, and she constantly refilled our waters and attended to our needs. Very pleased with that. In terms of food, I was a little disappointed. The bread that was brought out was very good. We ordered bacon wrapped scallops as one of our appetizers. That was great, the sauce on top was a little over bearing but overall a good choice. next we ordered the meatballs. Those were wonderful. They were tender, had the right amount of sauce with a side of ricotta. But when it came to the main course, the carbonara with grilled chicken, I was highly disappointed. I was expecting something rich and creamy, and and it was the opposite. The pasta was extremely over cooked and the chicken was very dry. Also, not enough sauce for the amount of pasta they gave.
