This is the third time my pick up gets mixed up with another order! Yesterday we ordered food for a pick up. Picked it up. Asked twice ( since we already know that they can mix up the orders) if the order is mine, checked the receipt on the bag - it matched and left with it. Hey Boris: The kebabs are good. The Wing kebab, only ok. The goat cheese arugula beet salad was soooo good as were the summer squash veggie medley. I thought the fried fish were dry and bony. The bread was good but got cold really quick. How to improve? Revamp ur menu a little bit... I can't imagine it's any better during busy hours. Waitress forgot one of the main entrees. Had to wait another 20min for that to come. My friend had to sit and watch me eat. There really isn't enough food to "share"...taste sure....can't share. Their timing sucks. All your appetizers/salads and main entrees all come in at once. By the time you are done with the appetizers your main dish is COLD. Their digital menu (on an iPad) is cool but very misleading. The images and videos show large portions but when you get them they are about 25% of size of the photo/video. Prices are a bit too expensive for food that is only "decent". Portion sizes are small and the flavors are just not there. I think there are other restaurants in the area that serve better Russian and Uzbeki food. 1001 Nights is not too far from this location and the quality of food is much better. Whenever we came to this part of Brooklyn, Nargis was always a destination. It's Coney Island Avenue location was pleasing to be in with the rugs and decorations all over the place. The kitchen was visible from the dining room and the food was fantastic. We were dissapointed when it closed, but anticipated it's reopening on Sheepshead Bay Road. It's opening was long delayed and we were excited to try it when it finally opened. We went to the current location and the food was fine although the portions were a bit skimpy. The service was excellent and the place has a classy interior, reminiscent of a fine dining establishment. However, in my opinion, the new Nargis is a shell of it's former self. While the place is classy, it lacks charm. The food pales in comparison to what it was before and it is much more expensive. Before, Nargis was a destination, now it is a mediocre place that I may or may not come back to. read more

I ate here for dinner on a Saturday night and was seated at the bar with my date. We ordered an avocado salad with feta, pumpkin samsa, seasoned french fries, and kebabs (2 salmon, chicken, lulya, and beef). The salads and appetizers came out very quickly, and they were great as usual. I was very confused and disappointed when the waiter brought out a single salmon kebab while we were still eating our appetizers. When I asked why he had brought a single kebab, he replied "something happened with the other one". Because we were still eating our appetizers, the salmon was just sitting on the table. Even after our appetizers were cleared, the other kebabs were not yet served. Because I did not want to start eating before my date got his food, it just sat there. It was cold by the time the other kebabs were finally served and we did not enjoy the entree. I became sick as soon as I got home. The only reason I am giving this review 2 stars instead of 1 is because the bartender who waited on us was attentive and apologetic (he broke a glass and spilled club soda on my jacket). The food here is amazing! This is the second time I've had food from Nargis Cafe and both times have never disappointed me. My wife and I ended up splitting two kebabs as you can see in the picture below along with mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables and a salad. The kebabs are made perfectly and the grilled vegetables are worth the order. The prices are inexpensive and food has been consistent. What a great and beautiful amazing restaurant in the Brooklyn area!! I came here with some friends for a late lunch/early dinner and I couldn't wait to dive into my food when I walked in because it smelled delicious in here. I ordered the soup (Shurpa) was so good and delicious especially on a nice cold day outside. I could easily eat a whole entire pot of this soup!! Paired perfectly with veggies, chick peas and what seemed like ox tail, this soup is prefect for the cold bodies. My friends and I also ordered the manti and the crispy manti. I think some confusion occurred when I ordered because I wanted the crispy chuchvara (a potato dumpling but I instead I got the crispy manti. Either way, they were both super delicious and I'm happy it was ordered. A must order is the cigars with cheese!! The nice puff pastry roll in cheese has a great garlic taste with We also got kabobs. I ordered the beef/steak and as well as the lamb. I wish this came with a little side of taiziki sauce but nothing. It was topped with some onions and dill. Super good experience for NY Uzbek restaurant. Perfect selection of a charcoal cooked meat: chicken, lamb and beef. Just make sure ground meat are cooked completely. Shurpa soup tastes perfect, don't like meat on a bones inside the cup, just lean meat would be nicer. Samsa baked on a right way and a little bit overloaded with a filling. My visit to this place for lunch was quick. One hour and we were out. The food was good and gave my coworker and I a small taste of Uzbeki cuisine. We ordered a everything to be split between us. The salad we wanted was the garden salad but we got shepherds salad instead with cucumbers tomatoes and onions sprinkled with (ALOT) of feta cheese, unfortunately it overpowers the salad. While we waited for the main course, we were given house bread which was warm and fluffy. Butter was provided for extra savory bites. The entree we got crispy manti which is like a dumpling filled with beef and lamb. It comes 4 per serving and we split it between us. I wish we got more but we were more than satisfied. The spiced fries we thought we'd order two but the waiter said it's a big portion -it was! More than enough for two people. I enjoyed the fries that were dusted with flavorful herbs -different than typical fries. It was a quick and quiet lunch. New York may be laced with exquisite 5 star restaurants, but nothing comes close to Uzbek food, and more specifically, Nargis. Whenever my dad visited New York, I swear he would bring back half of this restaurant with him. Our freezer would be half full of samsa, with each portion rationed out to last until the next trip. Now it was my turn to go, and the obsession easily transferred over. When my relatives told me we would be going to Nargis, the temptation started growing even more. Even on weekdays, this place is PACKED. They've renovated recently and the decor is fantastic. You'll feel like you're dining in Tashkent, until you look out the window and realize you're still in Brooklyn. On to the food: - Achichuk Salad ($6.50): Tomato and onion salad. Very simple salad to make. Ingredients were all fresh and prepared with delicious herbs and spices. This is meant to be paired with plov, so save it for that. - Nargis Salad ($5.75): Cabbage, onion, tomatoes, cucumber in oil and vinegar. Also very simple and fresh. A nice way to start out your meal. - Plov ($7.50): Lamb meat, rice, carrot, and chickpeas. This is the epitome of Uzbek food. The cornerstone of all Uzbek food stands for. My family would spend an entire day preparing this at home in a special kazan (large central Asian pot) to perfect the flavors. Nargis executes it phenomenally, although it's still not as great as how my dad makes it. The whole dish is well marinated and the lamb is very juicy. I'm not a big fan of chickpeas or onions in plov, so that deterred away from it a little bit. Nonetheless, it was delicious. - Manti ($6.50): Think Chinese xialongbao, Korean mandoo, or Nepalese momo. Now make the dumpling twice as large, stuff it with lamb and onions, and you get Uzbek manti. A dish so simple, yet takes so much care and effort to get right. The ones here are out of this world. Very aromatic and juicy lamb, perfect dough thickness, and great consistency. These are easy to dry out or overcook, but Nargis gets it right. - Crispy Manti ($6.50): Same as above. Same quality, same juicy lamb, but pan fried. This makes the whole thing a bit crunchy and more savory, which is very nice. I suggest get both and decide which one you like better. Then order 5 servings of each to take home because you're bound to fall in love with both. - Samsa ($2.50): Can life get any better than this? I want to invent a time machine just to meet the Uzbek mountain villager who invented samsa and bow down to him/her. Then I will take them with me to meet the samsa chef at Nargis so the inventor could bow down to their greatness. The samsa here is perfectly flaky, packed with meat and onions, and is just a warm lamb infused explosion in your mouth. Words don't do it justice, friends. I hauled a bag of 20 samsas for a day through New York and then flew them back to California. Yes, that's $50 worth. It's that amazing. - Lamb Kebab ($3.95): A simple skewer of lamb kebab covered in onions. No place has ever ever surpassed the quality of the lamb kebabs I ate growing up, until now. They're so fantastically marinated that you will fall in love with the aroma before even having a bite. Extremely tender, juicy, and just heaven-like. - Veal Liver Kebab ($3.95): Horrible. Try at your own discretion. Some love it. I hated it. It has nothing to do with how they prepare it and everything to do with the fact that I just hate liver. Passed it on to my relatives, who enjoyed it very much. - Lulya Kebab ($3.90): Just like a lamb kebab, but with ground lamb. Also fantastically marinated, juicy, tender. What more can I say? Service is phenomenal. These guys work their asses off to get your dish out as quickly as possible. They even have earpieces to increase their efficiency. Too boss. The waitresses are all very kind, helpful, and authentically gorgeous. Is it worth the 45 min train ride from Manhattan? Definitely. Is it worth the 6hr flight from California? Absolutely. I came in advance in order to reserve a special table for my wedding, we talked in advance that we want a table next to panoramic windows, discussed the way tables should be organized. When we came in, tables were placed in absolutely different place and shape, food wasn't ready, next to us were running people from the kitchen. And no one informed us about that. The main excuse of the managers were that we discussed table for 15 people instead asked to cover for 20, that was discussed in advance as well! No one told us that they are going to change the table or arrange tables differently, our issue wasn't solved and we had to leave this cafe. I decided to test their delivery service. The woman who answered the phone was very polite and professional. She said the delivery will get to me in about 45 minutes, and it did. They wrapped the meat and the salad in plastic boxes, and the bread as well as the smash in brown paper bag. Everything arrived hot and fresh. The quality of the delivers food was Nargiz quality, delicious. The avocado salad did not contain enough Avocado in it. And the bread wasn't as fresh as I am used to. Amazing is an understatement to describe food and service at Nargis. It was a trek on the Q train from Manhattan but nothing is too far for a world traveling foodie like me. Besides I rather pay $2.50 than a flight fare plus expenses to get real authentic Uzbek food. For food ordered the Tashkent Salad, Uzbek Plov, Manti and lamb skewer. For drink had the fruity juice which is a filtered apple, pear and strawberry mix. Would pass on the drink. Tasted like a fruity powder drink. :s On to the service...we were greeted with a sincere smile. Although they insisted for us to eat at the bar to avoid a long wait, they took my suggestion of sitting outside as I saw a table just cleared up. We were seated right away on the side of the restaurant which was better than sitting in the front area. No table beside us so just front and back with enough space so peeps do not laugh at us from all the "mmmmm this so good" chants. Lol Food came out quickly as did extra plates for sharing, utensils and water. Dirty Plates were cleared straight away as they are very efficient to the point i had to ask for my empty dumpling plate back as it still had a huge yogurt based spread that i did not finish. Slow down Nargis, pls ask and do not whisk away my yummy yogurt dumpling spread. ;-) Tashkent salad was a good start. See my pix. Had to hold back on the salad when tbe Uzbek Plov immediately came. Nargis has all their senses checked, pun intended. On to the Manti. Well am a huge fan of dumplings and must say this is the best dumpling I ever had. It is huge with right amount of dough n pan fry and the meat is full of flavor. It is an immediate do over. mmm The lamb skewer is a staple on almost everyone s table so after my first bite I learned why. It is perfectly grilled, tender and tasty. They master in seasoning as there was no strong lamb smell or taste as some underachieved lamb can be. Highly recommend it. Had to pass on the dessert as there was nothing traditionally Uzbek on the menu. And for $7 i can get the same of most listed desserts much cheaper and at a proper bakery. Upon the suggestion of my Russian friend, we drove from CT to Brooklyn to sample some Central Asian food. As a lover of little plates this would be perfect. We were extremely impressed. First the décor at Nargis is very nice. But what really impressed me was the staff. I had been warned (by a Russian expat) to be ready for not so pleasant service as sometimes is the case in the Russian places. We had exactly the opposite experience. Although we were greeted in Russian, the hostess quickly changed to English since we were not native speakers. During the whole meal when diverse staff members brought us dishes, supervisors frequently told them "po-angliski" (in English), to make sure we understood. The menu is bilingual and there was also a drink menu and a specials menu. There was so much to choose from we ordered way too much and I still was not able to try all I wanted. The cuisine appears a mélange ranging from Turkish/Persian/Afghan skewers of meats (Shashlyk) via Indian samosa like Samsas to Chinese pot stickers/dumplings (Manti) and Korean style kimchee. We also had a delicious bowl of assorted pickled vegetables reminiscent of an Italian gardiniera which also contained loads of garlic cloves and even Brussels sprouts. We had one of the specials, a huge braised lamb shank with mashed potatoes. My least favorites where the Samsa and the Manti only because the meat filling was really bland. They were served with a home made red salsa which I really liked, but it was not enough. We took a whole bunch of leftovers with us. I can't wait to return and try some of the other dishes including soups and salads. read more

No question, one of the best places in Brooklyn. They lately expended the [lace and added a bar, so you can easily find yourself waiting in a long line, and if you are planning to come during the weekend get ready for a long waiting. But it definitely worth it. Their food is unique and delicious. And i consider it as amazing. Because there aren't many places that everything on their menue is delicious (Exept maybe for their Chack-Chack dessert), but it doesnt change the fact that they are great, and deseve 5 stars. read more

Food is still good, but the ridiculous policy of charging $200 deposit for a small reservation of eight people makes this place a no go. Delivery is very punctual - if you ask for it by 6 pm - it will be at your house by 5:55. Pilaf, liver, lamb ribs, lamb kebab, lula kebab, achiuchuk all excellent. This place was my go to spot for Russian/Uzbeki food, but not anymore after today. The staffs were nice, but I wish they treated their customers better. My fiancé and I told the waiter the beef kabob tasted bad, like it's been sitting in the fridge for a while. When we got the check, the beef kabob was not taken out from the bill and we ask for it, but was not delivered. I guess they really need that $8+ dollars from us. Came here twice, and I would rate both time 5 stars!!! We had the avocado salad, different kabobs (chicken, lamb, beef), oxtails, green pilov, non and garlic fries. Everything taste amazing. The salad are fresh and the portion is huge. The pilov rice is very flavorful. Oxtail is tender but I wish the size is a little bigger (comes with 4 pieces of meat). Non is freshly baked from the kitchen, perfect with the salad. The kabobs are perfectly char grilled, and are so wallet friendly. I will definitely come back again. P.S. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants and now just got my order... i cant even put into words what im seeing. i ordered what i always used to, potatoes with mushrooms, liver cubes, achichuk and chicken kebabs. everything comes in half portions, and the portion you DO get is shockingly bad. the potatoes are stale, undercooked with GIANT pieces of undercooked mushroom, the achichuk is obviously made with old tomatoes they are too cheap & greedy to throw out so stuck it into a salad, the liver cubes look and taste boiled instead of fried. all of this came out to 90$!!!! i had to throw out the entire order. i am disgusted! read more

This is the third Uzbeki restaurant I've been to in the past couple of months, and maybe my favorite. I love the atmosphere here, most tables are celebrating something, so it's very lively and festive. All the food was delicious. The chuchvara was a hit, too, so good! I really liked the pumpkin manti, it was a different flavor than some others, more sweet. The plov was tasty, but I think we prefer it a little more fatty, and with dried fruit. This was closer to an Asian style fried rice, but still very good! The best thing we had was the avocado salad. So good!! We didn't even scratch the surface of the menu, we were watching all the food go out, and it looked amazing. I want to come back for those seafood skewers. Definitely go in a big group, if you can. Everything was prepared once I arrived for pickup. No food was missing. For appetizer, we had shepherd's salad, eggplant salad, fried liver cubes, samsa, and manti. The salad was fresh with a generous portion of parsley. I liked how the feta cheese was not overwhelming. The liver cubes were mild; I'd even recommend them to someone trying liver for the first time. All five appetizers were good. As a fan of and , I couldn't go wrong with the . For dinner, we ordered all of the kebabs and the lamb chops. All of the meats were tender. I highly recommend the Lulya kebab to anyone who like Adana kebab.
