    Shrimp Kebab (I didn't try)

An Outstanding Uzbek Dining Experience at Samarkand Nights I went to Samarkand Nights tonight, and I have to say...it was excellent. I've eaten at many Uzbek restaurants in the NYC area, and after my longtime favorite sadly closed due to a fire, I've been on a serious quest to find the best Uzbek restaurant around. This place may very well be it. First, a special shout-out to Kamola, who was doing everything; serving tables, bussing, answering the phone, and somehow still delivering outstanding service with a great attitude. She handled the entire dining room flawlessly. No complaints whatsoever, though after this review they'll probably need to hire more staff! What We Ordered: Starters & Salads: Lagman Soup Achichuk Salad Avocado Salad Combination Dip Platter (Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Ikra, Morkovcha, Labeneh) Kebabs & Mains: Salmon Kebab Chilean Sea Bass Kebab Shrimp Kebab Chicken Kebab Chicken Lulya Beef Lulya Beef Kebab Beef Napoleon Drinks: Compote Seltzer (We paired everything with Beluga Vodka, which they happily allow you to bring...nice touch.) The Verdict: This was EXCELLENT. The salads were okay, and while the hummus and baba ganoush were decent, next time I'll order the Ikra and Morkovcha on their own, they stood out much more. Everything else, however, was outstanding! The Lulya kebabs deserve special mention, both chicken and beef were extremely juicy, literally dripping with fat, spices, and flavor. Absolutely cooked the way Lulya should be. Beef Kebab is a must have!!! Beef Napoleon was something I had never tried before: alternating thin layers of meat and fat, unbelievably flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Chilean Sea Bass Kebab was the best I've ever had, perfectly cooked and incredibly tender. Salmon Kebab was solid and well-executed. I didn't personally try the Shrimp Kebab, but two people at the table said it was excellent and beautifully seasoned with Uzbek spices. Atmosphere & Vibe What really surprised me was the atmosphere. Whether it was the food, the music, or the overall energy, it brought people together in a way you don't usually see at a restaurant. Kids from different tables started dancing with each other, it honestly felt like something you'd normally only see at a wedding. Warm, joyful, and genuinely communal. Unfortunately, they were out of Plov. We had ordered it in advance with our reservation, and they did call us ahead of time to let us know, which I appreciated. I'm very much looking forward to trying it on my next visit. Final Thoughts: Chaim, the owner, was warm, personable, and welcoming. Between the food, the service, and the atmosphere, this is hands down the best Uzbek restaurant I've eaten at. There's plenty of parking, reservations don't currently seem necessary, and I'll absolutely be back...most likely to rent out the place for a party. Highly, highly recommended.

My meal arrived right on time, piping hot, fresh, and definitely not the "leftover of the day." I'm usually not a fan of wild salmon, but this dish completely changed my mind. The salmon was tender and flavorful, with an accompanying sauce filled with red and green peppers, tomatoes finely diced and a red sauce. Must I say it was absolutely delicious. The jasmine rice was perfectly cooked and the vegetables were blanched just right. I enjoyed my dinner. I will definitely be ordering this again and sampling other dishes on the menu. Compliments to the chef!

This time around, I tried the BBQ salmon pesto with fries and the black bean burger with fries--both were so flavorful and satisfying. The aesthetic of the restaurant is cozy and welcoming, with good music playing in the background that sets a great vibe. The staff is super friendly, and the whole environment just makes you want to stay a little longer. I even had the chance to meet the owner during my visit, and he was incredibly kind and passionate about what he's building here. You can feel the love and dedication in both the food and the atmosphere. He mentioned there's a live music event happening on May 31st--so if you're in the area, definitely check it out! Spread Love & Eat truly lives up to its name. I'll definitely be back!

After finishing my workout at the gym, I was looking for something quick to eat on my way to my…read morenext destination. While walking through Canarsie, I stumbled upon Twisted Roots, a relatively quiet juice and café bar. The place was almost closing, but I decided to give it a try since there weren't many people around. I learned that Twisted Roots is Haitian-owned, which I appreciated for its cultural diversity. The staff shared that they've been in business for eight years and were the first juice bar in Canarsie. If that's true, it's impressive considering how many healthier options have popped up in the area since. Being pioneers in this kind of business is no small feat. I ordered an açaí bowl, which took around 10 minutes to prepare, even though I was the only customer. It's hard to say why--maybe they were prepping or taking their time to get it right. When it finally arrived, I could see the effort they put into it. The bowl was loaded with toppings--bananas, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, pears, shredded coconut, Nutella, and honey. It was a very generous serving and probably weighed close to a pound. The taste was fresh and fruity, like eating a refreshing fruit salad. That said, I do prefer my açaí bowls with a frozen base. This one was more on the watery side, which made it less satisfying in terms of texture. But for $11, it's hard to complain about the value--it was definitely packed with fresh fruits, unlike some places that charge more for a lot less. The setting of the café is functional but unusual. There aren't many places to sit, aside from a few stools and chairs. It feels more like a grab-and-go spot than somewhere you'd sit and relax. If you're planning to eat there, you might end up outside by the bus stop, especially during the warmer months. I think the establishment would benefit from a redesign to make the space more welcoming and improve the overall vibe. As for the customer service, it was friendly and attentive. Even before I mentioned that I was a Yelp reviewer, the staff encouraged me to leave a review and follow them on social media. It's clear they care about customer feedback, which is always a good sign--they're conscious of how they can improve and create a better experience for their patrons. I'd come back for another visit, especially since I live nearby. I'd love to see them refine their offerings and maybe enhance the space, but I enjoyed my experience and appreciate what they're trying to do.

There are a mix of West African and Caribbean products. There is a whole room dedicated to bulk rices and grains. The produce section is not as extensive as one would think for a place like this, but they have incredible prices for example, organic ginger for $1.99 a pound. My neighborhood supermarket is offering that for $7.99 a pound! Well, many people do their regular shopping here. It does appear to be set up for bulk purchases. There are health and beauty products by the registers and that's why I usually go because they have incredible prices on moisturizers and deodorants. Not only that, they import the international versions of domestic items like Dove for Men deodorant. You can tell because the labels are all in French!
