I went in for some auto repair and they listened to what I was saying, found the problem and quoted the price. They didn't over charge me, they are a cash only place and it's a first come first serve, they didn't try to push me around and give me 3 different prices, they were straight forward. Do NOT go to Narragansett Auto Repair! If I could, I would give ZERO Stars! Tried to rip off a 17 year-old girl, not knowing that she had back-up! We bought repair insurance for our granddaughter's car with a MAXIMUM of $100 Deductible. The mechanic over-charged for the part ($50 more than we could get it at the Parts Store) & demanded $200 "or this car is not leaving the lot". He said he didn't submit the repair to the insurance because he would make less money (probably because he could not then over-charge). A talk with the original salesman (who recommended the insurance & Narragansett Auto Repair) resulted in him agreeing to pay the extra $100, but our granddaughter had to pay $200 to get her car & now has to get the difference back. *AVOID!* read more

No snags but some good advice on cosmetic details that might cause problems ( I discussed selling it in the distant future), costing more money if not treated. WORST PLACE TO TAKE YOUR AUTO!! BEWARE and educate yourself, because these guys (and the owner) need to freshen up on their knowledge of Rhode Island law!! Went here for a simple emissions inspection after reading all of the positive reviews, and the first thing that happens after rolling into the garage is that they flat out told me that I can't have tints on my front windows - "can't have 'em." I bought this car in 2020 brand new from the manufacturer and the tints on the windows came from the Ford dealership at 70% min - nope, both of the guys tell me that in Rhode Island I can't have em...even telling me that tints are illegal in Florida...what WHAT?! I came from Florida and I know for a FACT that that's a flat-out lie! They advised that I go to get my tints removed completely....THEN perhaps after the inspection, I can get them re-tinted for $350. Seriously? So I left...stopped by a tint shop that wanted $75, pretty much backing up with what the auto guys said! I was pressed for time, but said..fuck it...looked it up, and found Rhode Island Law states that: "Title 31, Motor and Other Vehicles, Chapter 23.3 - Nontransparent Windshields and Windows, R.I. Gen. Laws § 31-23.3-2: Windshields and windows obscured by nontransparent materials: No person shall own and operate any motor vehicle upon any public highway, road, or street with nontransparent or sunscreen material, window application, reflective film, or non-reflective film used in any way to cover or treat the front windshield, the side windows immediately adjacent to the right and left of the operator's seat, the side windows immediately to the rear of the operator's seat and the front passenger seat and the rear window UNLESS this vehicle meets one of the criteria set forth (continue reading...it gets good....) **§31-23.3-4, Exemptions: The provisions of this chapter SHALL NOT apply to: (1) Motor vehicles manufactured with windshields and window glass areas equipped in accordance with specifications of 49 CFR 571.205 as authorized by 15 U.S.C. § 1407 (...) **(3) The use of nontransparent or sunscreen material or window application on motor vehicles which has a total visible light transmittance of not less than seventy percent (70%) measured perpendicular to the surface of the glass on the windshield and side windows immediately adjacent to the right and left of the operator's seat, the side windows immediately to the rear of the operator's seat and the front passenger seat or on the rear window if the vehicle is equipped with two (2) outside mirrors, one on each side, adjusted so that the driver has a clear view of the highway behind the vehicle. When I pulled this up on my phone and tried to show the shop boss, he takes my phone from my hand, dismisses what I'm trying to show him, sticks his hand in my face as he answers the phone! I wasn't going to sit there and be disrespected so when I stood up and asked for my phone, he stretches his arm behind him as if trying to prevent me from taking back my own phone! Now I started arguing and demanding my property back, telling him that he was not authorized to hold onto my property and keep me there against my will I told him that I wasn't going to be disrespected and to return my phone so I can leave and after a few more seconds of me demanding some more, I snatched my phone and started to walk out...this old dude starts walking after me yelling for me to get out of his shop and off his property, proceeds to follow me outside and try and get all up in my space! When I told him that I was outside of his shop and that he needed to back up off me, he yelled that he owned the land where his shop was located (as if that gives him any right to continue harassing me the way he was doing) then proceeds to yell at me some more as if I WERE the one who disrespected him and was out of line! I told him that all I was trying to do was have a conversation with him and point out that he was wrong and the law clearly permitted my inspection to be done....he calls me a "dickhead" and then heads back into his shop! My son was recommended to go to Narragansett Auto. He called and told them his problem, they told him to take it in. Seven weeks later told him nothing was wrong with the car. He drove it home and broke down. I don't even think they looked at it. There are no mechanics these days that want to fix older vehicles. I would not recommend this company for anything. I have been going to Narragansett auto for over 10 years at the old location. They moved to this new location and are apparently under new ownership. This place is absolutely horrible. Took my car in for inspection, staff is extremely rude. Guy tells me I need a new windshield wiper or he is gonna fail me. Says it's gonna be $15. $15 for a windshield wiper???? He said other than that the car passes and I'll be all set. Rather than drive to the store, put the wiper on and come back, I said fine I'll pay it. They put the wiper on then say, oh sorry you actually failed the emissions. So much for being "all set besides the wiper" What a rip off joint. Stay far far away from this place. I really like going to Narragansett Auto to get my car inspected. I like how the garage is set behind the main road and its very easy in and out. They are very professional, they get you in pretty quickly and its right to the point which I like. I've told friends & family about getting their inspections here and everyone agrees its the best spot around the WW area. No issues ever, I will continue to get my stickers here :) read more

after reading the few reviews on this place I would like to know what happened. This garage had my car for twelve yes ,twelve days replaced a crankshaft sensor charged me over 200 for a part that auto zone says is 90$ asked to put sticker on theycouldnt find the caus of engine light on after 12 days i went to pick up they were extremely rude horrible service charged me 528.00for their time in trying to figure out the problem. i was smartenought to take my mileage down before i had it brought there, low and behold their is 300 more miles on it empty gas tank and broken window handle people beware thid isn't the same place it use to be. i guess his business has really made it and he could care less how he treats a customer now. i will pursue this further, he isn't going to do this and think its ok not cool, if i could rate lower than one star thats what it would be read more

A co-worker referred me to Danny at Narragansett Auto Repair. I'd recently bought a 1996 Sunfire 5-speed with 86k miles, and the car was intermittently chugging/bucking and stalling. I'd spent over $800 at another mechanic on a tune-up and repairs that didn't solve the problem, and then the shift linkage broke and the car wouldn't go into reverse or 5th. Danny provided an accurate and honest evaluation of the car's condition and performed affordable repairs, including fixing the shift linkage (for which he fabricated new retainers), cleaning the throttle body and idle valve, and setting the minimum idle. After driving the car for two weeks, I'm confident that the repairs were 100% successful. I strongly recommend Narragansett Auto Repair for high quality, affordable auto repair.
