My wife and I just saw Lord of Light. This original Narroway Productions musical is one of the best l have seen and I am not a stranger to this place. Act one is beautiful, powerful and spiritually moving. This act visually and emotionally fantastic. The acrobatics are amazing. The creation scene is unbelievable. Act two is equally powerful in a darker way exploring the battle for the souls of man. Our family has enjoyed various shows at the NarroWay over the years, including the Christmas production. This year we took our 5 year old for the first time and he loved it. The show moves at the perfect pace for his age. I like that there is a noon show option for families with a meal option. This is the review that I wish I wasn't writing. The punchline is: Narroway Theater advertises itself as a Christian Theater, but I'm sorry to say it isn't. If you'd like to know why, read on. We received 4 tickets as a gift to go see " The REAL Christmas Story" on 11/11/23. Myself, my husband, and our 10 year old twins were excited to go, and drove a few hours to get there. We got there early and browsed the gift shop: filled with Christian shirts, mugs, decor, bumper stickers, etc. that were filled with Bible verses and "keep Christ in Christmas" sentiment. We went into the theater to find our seats, and when dinner was served, a man came out center stage to say a prayer over the meal with the entire crowd. Good start. The meal was about what you'd expect from airline food; they're trying to keep costs down; fine. That's not what I'm here to talk about. After dinner was cleared, the two ladies who were the writer and musical director of the show came out. They spent about 15 minutes speaking passionately about the importance of prayer and writing God's word on our hearts. Good. They told a beautiful story about a live donkey in the show being a rescue animal and a reminder of how we are all in need of salvation. I teared up. This was off to a great start! These folks seem to be genuine! Then...the show started. Within 10 minutes my husband and I exchanged shocked sideways glances that said, "Are you seeing what I'm seeing? What in the world...??" The show began in Santa's workshop, with an adult manager elf and a small elf played by a girl about 6 years old. They were arguing over the fact that Christmas was almost here and the small elf had fired Rudolph, which of course was disastrous. From here, I'll just give you bullet points of the things we found to be NOT "The REAL Christmas Story": 1) The adult and child actor were arguing, during which the adult turned to face the audience and the child mocked her behind her back for several minutes, even making inappropriate gestures. The Bible does not teach children to disrespect adults and authority this way. 2) When the adult asked the child why she had fired Rudolph, one of the reasons that she guessed included a sexual innuendo: "Was Rudolph doing inappropriate things with Vixen and Cupid again?" 3) The entire first half of the show was a musical montage of 100% secular Christmas songs that included "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." Yes, I know it's mom kissing dad, but the child singing the song misunderstands this to be witnessing adultery :/ 4) The whole thing was FLASHY to the max; sensory overload. Santa and Mrs. Claus circulating the audience. We stayed this long hoping that at any moment someone was going to draw a sharp contrast and say, "this isn't real Christmas at ALL!! Let's see how far off the mark this is..." But they didn't. Then came the final straw for us: 5) Included in the montage was "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." This is a HORRENDOUS song that talks about Grandma getting drunk on too much eggnog and then being in a hit and run, in which she is killed. Personally I've always hated this song, but was shocked that it was included here at a "Christian" theater. The way they performed it: a group of "hillbillies" came out onto the stage in a melodramatic parade, lead by "grandpa" carrying a grotesque dummy that was supposed to be the dead body of "grandma," freshly run over. My daughter described it as "really creepy." Then: CENTER STAGE was a woman with a 7 FOOT YELLOW PYTHON (a real one) AROUND HER NECK. WE GOT UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SHOW AND LEFT. It's pretty common knowledge that a snake is LITERALLY symbolic of Satan in the Bible, straight from the Garden of Eden. Even folks who aren't Christian usually know that. So at a "Christian" theater, in a show called "The REAL Christmas," you're going to parade a GIANT LIVE SNAKE CENTER STAGE??? I'm out. We went into the lobby and there was just one employee at the ticket counter because it was not yet intermission. We respectfully told her how incredibly offended we were and why. We told her about the contrast we were HOPING for. Her response: "Well, in all the years this show has been running, no one has ever complained about that. Everybody always loves this show. We are showing Christmas Tradition in the first half and the second half is the Jesus story. You should stay for the second half of the show and you'll see it." She indicated that their opinion was that both the "Christmas traditions" and Christ were of equal importance. My husband and I took our children aside and talked with them about the situation. They completely understood, supported our decision, and were happy to leave. "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" Joshua 24:15. It was a really important teachable moment for us to show our kids what it looks like to stand up for God when the rest of the world is going the other way. read more

a small group of friends attended last nights performance of the original Ain't Got No Men. It was fantastic, the cast is so talented, the message beautiful. We laughed and cried. The meal was super too! I highly recommend, we will be going back for sure. read more

We have been to two shows, the Christmas and Samson one. The shows are a great production. A little too loud at times so more sound control would be great. The Christmas one was great the second half of it. We enjoy the shows and would return to see the shows; however with the meal is not worth it. We would rather not waste food as neither meal was fit to eat. The bread maybe but that's about it. Don't go for the food at all! read more

I would not recommend this venue AT ALL. There was a mix up on the tickets I bought for the real Christmas story which I immediately sent an email to resolve. I never received a response so I called the venue and was met with a shockingly arrogant response to the point of hostility. This is not a Christian organization. Super impressed by NarroWay Theater! We were looking for something to do on New Years 12/31/2024 that didn't involve going into Charlotte or drinking. NarroWay was having a dinner show production of "The Emporer's New Clothes". Price was reasonable for dinner and a show so we decided to try the later show having the additional feature that we would watch the Times Square ball drop while we were there. First off, everything about before the show was impressive. The facilities, the theater-in-the-round (or 1/2 round) instead of a stage, the decorations left over from the holidays were excellent, the stage production set itself was expansive, colorful, and clearly professionally done. All the staff dressed in costumes that would be used in the show, talked the part, and were all pleasant and helpful. After seated, the actors warmed up the crowd well and it was all relevant to the production we were about to see. The whole cast seemed to know exactly what they were doing and it appeared well-rehearsed. The production itself was brilliant. Well-acted, great humor and physical comedy, fantastic singing and songs. There were a few scenes where I actually laughed out loud a few times it was so witty and well done. I think the last time I laughed out loud a few times in a stage production was at Broadway plays in NYC. And the moral of the story was well woven into the story without being overbearing. Totally enjoyable and impressed with the cast as a whole as well as the individual actors. Speaking and singing actors definitely of all ages, but even if they didn't have a speaking part. Given the tiny tables you had to eat a 5-course meal on, the servers who were also the actors, did a really nice job in helping you through that juggling process. And the food was tasty. After the show, the theater lowered these huge projection screens behind the set and streamed the Times Square live footage while we walked around and met or took pictures with the cast who were also hanging out waiting for the ball to drop. The cast was very hospitable to and participatory with the audience (both before, during, and after the show). And when the ball dropped everyone (cast and audience both) was engaged in counting down and doing the small celebration afterwards with a glass/drink to toast with provided by NarroWay staff. Well done NarroWay and thank you for a memorable night. read more

Tonight I took my husband to Lord of Light. He is not easily impressed but he loved it! Food was great! Service too!! We live an hour away and we drive regularly to see their shows. No worries about COVID here. Seating is adequately spaced and masks are required until you sit down. Food was great. Show was outstanding. Narroway is amazing. The cast, the songs, the dancers, the acting, the food...EVERYTHING is top notch!!! I've seen The Real Christmas Story once and I've seen The 4th Cross three times. It's that good!!! I can't wait to see more shows. They have used Godly wisdom during this pandemic by reducing theater capacity, doing temperature checks, and wearing face coverings. Had a wonderful experience watching another play. Anno Dommini. The story of Steven. Extremely well performed. The venue is smaller and quaint. The dinner that comes with the ticket, is wonderful. It is served by the cast and they are very friendly. The quality of the signing and performances are outstanding, but the most important is the message. This is a wonderful Theater. Seen most of their shows many times. NarroWay Production live shows are Broadway caliber! The meals are themed to the show and yummy. This nonprofit theater is very affordable. The cast members are super talented. Even the animals (used in some shows) are very calm. You can even mingle with the cast members, afterward for photos to remember the wonderful experience. Everything is just SO amazing! Entertainment and a great value! Can't think of anything to improve on this venue. read more

I experienced Narroway in the Original Amphitheater many years ago and then recently went to see "Not Just Another Love Story." Let's just say I am so glad I did not wear a lot of make up because this with such a wonderful and emotional show that I cried many times. My children also thoroughly enjoyed it. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the positive Christian message this theater provides to our community. I hope to get involved. read more

Our church took a group of us to see the production of 'Not Just Another Love Story' this week and it was fantastic. Not only was the show first quality, the dinner was delicious! We had country style fried chicken, mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts with peach cobbler. The facility was very clean and nice. There is a gift shop with very reasonably priced merchandise and a snack bar for soft drinks and popcorn, candy, etc. This was my first visit to Narroway but it definitely will not be my last. I am telling everyone I know about this gem located near Charlotte, NC. read more
