The wait time was unacceptable at over one hour from the time we were told to be there. We only had time to visit the Buffett one time before they took it down and the food was nasty. The waitstaff was terrible. The band had technical issues that took nearly an hour to correct and once the band started their Mics did not work. Absolutely Horrible!!!! We went yesterday and waited an hour to be seated, only had time to visit the buffet once so the band could set up. Then waited almost an hour for the band to start. When they did start their mics didn't work and it was a hot mess. Not to Mention we only saw one waitress and had to remind her 4 times for even a water refill. Our party was so upset we just walked out with many other couples. Way to ruin a Valentine's Day. We had a super fantastic evening with another couple. My first time but not last at this dinner theater. The food was basic staples almost country-ish which is fine. The buffet was plenty good and I definitely was able to fill my belly.. The menu (as best I remember) was green beans with potatoes, corn, pintos, scalloped potatoes,mac n cheese,greens,rolls,chicken and carved ham and prime rib at the end. The ham was rather tasty the roast slightly dry but good. There was also a salad bar and three dessert options. My dessert was delicious and in a styrofoam box however it was on the smaller side, We should could have been bigger the chocolate cake. I have heard in years past the buffet was fuller with richer options. I will say if you like your food heavily seasoned grab some butter from the bar as there are salt and pepper shakers on each table. You can modify as needed. The server was attractive and and very pleasant however there's a lot of confusion towards the end on which coffees were decaffeinated and caffeinated so we asked for all new coffees. The master of ceremonies could serve as a comedian It was very entertaining just to watch that anyways fast on his feet. He also played a character in the production so multi-talented and big round of applause to him. As MC he engaged the audience and made it very entertaining and made it so it was positive comedic. The production itself is not Broadway level but it was very entertaining and the actor who played the The clueless detective was super expressive and was such a joy to watch. In considering that these are hobbies actors I think they all did a great job. Just have to be selective on which shows meet your taste cuz apparently there's a variety. The only reason I didn't give it a five-star is the buffet could have been a little richer and Fuller but I was debating on giving it a five-star rating. I believe we spent $260 for two people so and that probably included extra drinks but you determine if that's the correct price point for yourself. read more

A group of us watched Dreamgirls tonight. The performance was absolutely amazing. It was very enjoyable. And the wait staff were very food as well. The food wasn't that good. It was lacking taste and flavor. Hopefully that can be worked on. Again, the performance was top notch. read more

So! I did a thing with my family today. We experienced The Barn Dinner Theatre. This was my first time attending a dinner theatre and it was fabulous! The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Our server Shania was so helpful. Now the food was buffet style (which I'm not a big fan of buffet). Also the food could have definitely used more seasoning. However it was a great family outing and musical (Black Nativity) was an excellently performed. Personally I think the floor seats are the best as we were up close and personal with the actors. I have been coming to the theater for over 25 years & the food use to be excellent & is now just okay. It needs some seasoning in it. The plays are usually excellent but I saw the play Just Desserts yesterday evening with 2 friends & we left during intermission because we were seated in a cold area near the air conditioned vent & the play wasn't that great . I spend $64 X 3 & let the manager know about our issues but she offered no compensation. Not a good night! read more

What an amazing place! Buffet was delicious but the entertainment was out of this world! The singers were so talented! I went for the Black Nativity show and I can't even begin to tell how great it was! I enjoyed every single minute! They do have a nice selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks to chose from and they didn't seem to be overly priced like most places. I made the trip up from Charlotte and I will definitely be checking out other shows that I may want to come back for! read more

ZERO STARS. As a volunteer for Senior Adults at a local church, attempting to schedule a large group was absolutely ridiculous. After speaking with one individual multiple times on specifics of collecting a deposit & payment months in advance, I was later informed we missed our "window" for said deposit previously discussed & would have to collect the ticket cost in full from all 29 parties and personally deliver the money to the box office. After months of planning, calls & changes in information we were provided this trip was CANCELLED and I DO NOT RECOMMEND for large groups. I visited here about 10 years ago. This visit was so different. The first buffet was superb. Our visit yesterday was very disappointing. The meal was only average. The salad bar and dessert bar were a joke. Salad bar consisted of a pasta salad and cucumbers with tomatoes in Italian dressing and then there was what we decided was chicken salad. The dessert was a 1" square of dried out cake and other choice was a 1" square of a crumb cake. Both were terrible in our groups opinion. The buffet had hamburger patties put back in gravy. Baked chicken was ok. Our group found the ham to be good. Cooks brought out a fresh steamship round. I requested rare. The carver cut into the middle and it was well done throughout. Our server asked if he could get us anything. I asked for rare beef server remarked he wasn't allowed in kitchen. I understand that but could he have not stood outside the kitchen and when someone came out put in my request. Fish was not an option as it was in my first visit. This time 2 beef, 1 chicken and 1 pork selection. Server was pleasant and attentive just not willing to go the extra mile. Show was good. It was confusing with the change up of play of characters. On the way home one of our group mentioned that "Matt" had said Mr Holmes could take on many disguises. I wish we had paid more attention to what he was saying or maybe he could point it out more. Let me explain. My four stars are because the food. It was ok and just a tier below cafeteria style places. The food wasn't the reason why we came. The show we watched was Legends Diner and it was incredible. We were entertained from start to finish. The cast was talented and the band was amazing. This was our second visit and we really come for the show. I give the performances 5 stars as the cast did a terrific job keeping the audience engaged. 4 saw and ate for $236.00. Our 2nd show and meal and WOW I love this place! It's the oldest continuing live show venue in the nation. The building is an old barn, timbers in place, rich and nostalgic and a lovingly worn building. The show was EXCELLENT and the buffet was country cooking at its finest. read more

Our Church took a bus of 52 people; adults, teenagers and a few 7 & 8yr olds, to see the Black Nativity Production on December 14, 2024, and let me tell you the production was equivalent, if not better as the shows we've seen on broadway! The cast was phenomenal and very talented or should I say gifted. This production will make you cry, laugh and feel the holy spirit with the professionalism shown. You won't take you're eyes off the production and the atmosphere was great! Food was good and the guy giving the house rules was hilarious! We like how they recognized the groups present that night. A fantastic evening filled with professional singers delivering a great message of the birth of Jesus! Awesome! Well worth the money and time! read more

I would give this place 1 star if I was just here for the food but I wasn't so this is why it gets 3. We went last night to see Langston Hughes Black Nativity and it was amazing! The singing! Omg the singing was EVERYTHING!! The way they sang in harmony truly blessed my soul! The acting was great and the comedy sprinkled in was much appreciated. It kept the show light and fun. As far as the food goes-it was just meh for me. The dessert and the broccoli salad were the two best things I had. Took my guy out for his birthday to see the 'Black Nativity' at the Barn Dinner Theater and it was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! The staff was super friendly. So here's what happens in a nutshell 1 - your admission includes dinner and the play. (they serve alcoholic drinks for additional cost) 2 - the dinner is actually a buffet with great food. 3 - after dinner, the stage actually lowers down from the ceiling. 4 - the play starts. 5 - there's an intermission. 6 - Act 2 starts. 7 - show over... the end! We set down for dinner at 1pm - we were in the car by 5pm! Well worth the money spent! The 'Black Nativity' was great and the Barn Theater does not have a bad seat in the house. read more

The food quality & taste has gone down, in particular all of the vegetables. There was zero flavor in all of them and it was a big disappointment. They served rice and it was dried out. Mashed potatoes should always be a staple on the buffet. They use to have pintos but now it is another tasteless bean. The desserts are never good. Always dry and you only get two bites. The show was great, but for the price it is the whole experience that matters. Please up the food game and this place will be 5-star! read more

The most important thing is that the shows are always enjoyable. The Barn's a nostalgic favorite for me and my husband - married for 37 years and began attending during college. The past couple of years have made it more difficult to remain supportive due to shortage of staff, staff that is often not experienced or well-trained, and the lack of consistently positive customer service from anyone employed there, even the Owner/Gen. Mgr. Reservations can be a headache, check-in may go well (or not). No, the food is not the delicious experience it once was but we've been okay with that because we realize that costs have risen and the clientele are often not live theatre regulars. It's the regard that the Barn once showed for its patrons that makes us reconsider remaining loyal patrons. No playbills of any kind (not even digital), no cast and crew photo displays, no greeting line afterward. None of the standard touches that foster intimacy between a black box audience and the actors. After a recent episode of being overcharged during a promotion and treated by the reservationist and owner as though I was lying, it simply no longer seems worth the trip or cost unless a close friend is appearing on stage. My husband and myself went to see the Black Nativity tonight November 26. I enjoyed the entertainment, but the food was absolutely horrible!!! The veggies were poured out of the can and warmed, the meat was dry, and the overall experience was just not good. For as much as the tickets cost you would think they could hire real cooks and serve a meal that can be enjoyed. The place is small, but the staff were very polite and attended to our drink needs. We left the show early because we were hungry after expecting a great meal only to be disappointed...Why not just serve appetizers if that is the best you can do!! read more

Had a wonderful time watching Leading Ladies with Mark Flora and cast. The whole cast were wonderful. They did a terrific job making the audience laugh throughout the show. When you buy your tickets, they tell you your seating time. Which is when you can start to eat. We were seated at 6:00pm. The food is a southern style buffet; broccoli salad, corn, green beans, macaroni, potatoes, stewed tomatoes, cauliflower, breads, roast beef (French onion dipping juice and horseradish), ham, chicken, salad bar and desserts. The line moves fairly quickly. The show started around 7:30. It gave us plenty of time to eat, talk with our friends and enjoy the room. It's been a long time since I've been there. I believe it was sometime in the '90's. It hasn't changed. A fabulous evening filled with a funny show, good food and being with friends. This place has really gone downhill. In spite of a claim on their website that capacity had been reduced for health safety, this was not the case. The place was as packed as ever and I felt very uncomfortable. We were left waiting outside in the cold. They have recently raised the prices substantially, but the food quality is comparable to a hospital cafeteria. Seating is very cramped and uncomfortable. We ordered a bottle of wine from the menu. When the waitress only brought 2 glasses, we were told that they were not allowed to serve bottles. If that's the case, why are bottles on the menu and why weren't we told this when we ordered? For the prices here, you can go eat at a fine dining restaurant and see a very good local theater production. That's what we will do in the future. We will miss this place, but we will not be back. read more

This evening I went to see "Away in the Basement." This is my 5th time coming. All the other plays were excellent. This play was the worst I have ever seen. It was slap stick humor and comedy. It reminded me of rhe Archie Bunker sitcom. Our entire bus was disappointed. Also, the baked chicken, scalloped potatoes were dried up. In one scene one of the woman had used the bathroom and came back with tissue on her shoe. The cast did a good job working it into the scene. It truly was not worth the money! Our group was so mad that if possible they wanted there money back. I think I will take a break from coming to the Barnes dinner theater. I have been coming the past 2 years. They really had no good message, plot or songs about Christmas! One character kept leaving to go to the store. Also invisible characters, Willie, Mrs. Pendill. and the children. The 3 stars is for the show and staff only! This s my second time to The Barn dinner Theatre. First, let me give the positive. The shows are OUTSTANDING! My favorite to date is Black Nativity. The staff is very nice, attentive, and professional. However, the food is subpar at best. I cannot understand for the life of me how an established dinner theatre feels comfortable serving canned vegetables...foe the $50 price tag for shows, my expectations of the Buffet were higher than that of a hospital cafeteria. The food is absolutely HORRIBLE. The only thing that was edible was the roasted chicken, Cucumber Tomato Salad and Broccoli salad. Everything else needs improvement. read more

My family goes to the Barn Dinner Theatre about once a year and we have always enjoyed it. Last week we went to see Smoke on the Mountain which is my favorite. The food was good and the play was very good. However when we were greeted by our waitress she informed us that water is the only beverage included with your admission price. Evidently this is a new policy because I was not informed of this when I made reservations and I did not appreciate this surprise. Three teas and a soft drink was nine dollars. Also because of this change the wait staff have more work and I didn't feel the service was at the usual level. We were presented with our bill during intermission and she never came back to get it. She did come back to offer us coffee but I declined because I did not want to dig in my purse for more money. I wish they would reconsider this and just raise the admission price. read more

My first time here, and I must say when driving up to this place my first thought was "what the hell?'! It is a little crowded, and there is a line for the buffet, about a full 5 minute wait, but in the end it's all well worth it. I saw an amazing show called Soul Sistas...loved it! The food was excellent, and great service. I just wish there were more choices for the dessert, they only had banana pudding and peach cobbler both of which I hate. Although you can order from the menu other desserts ($6)and alcohol. The stage comes down from the ceiling which I thought was pretty cool. We had great seats, kinda second level with a full view of the stage. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try! read more

I've been to the Barn Dinner Theater numerous times over the years and the shows have always been excellent. I've also been very happy with the service. My only disappointment the past 2-3 years has been the food. When I initially started going they served the most delicious halibut,which I always looked forward to, but, unfortunately it was eventually removed from the menu. Now the food is bland and tastes like it came straight from the can. The desserts are just as bad. I suspect they have cut a lot of corners and the menu took the hardest hit. Please improve the menu, maybe hire a better cook. With the expensive price of the tickets, tastier food would improve the total package, making for a more enjoyable evening. read more
