We planned for a 6 hour day and didn't need that long You can see all the exhibits within 4hrs max. We did pay the extra to check out the control center from the Apollo missions. So right now at nasa space center is there Christmas/ Holiday lights experience . First off the line to get into this place is long and you will have to wait till 6 to get in plus you will have to wait in the heat / cold/ humidity. The lights are nothing special there's not a lot to do also the prices for tickets are expensive. There's food and drinks at least which you have to pay for separately. The staff is pretty nice but there in a rush to leave and go home . Overall once ya do it ya don't need to do it again . read more

Unfortunately, they sell too many tickets and they can't handle the crowds. Paid $65 for two people to get in and all four of the shows were already booked up and occupied and we could not enjoy the full experience. They should return a percentage of what you spend to get in. read more

While in Texas, we finally had a chance to tower the Johnson Space Center/NASA Houston! This is an in-operation campus but mixed with tourist sightseeing. At the front of the campus is a museum dedicated to all of the space flights conducted by NASA, with a focus on the moon missions. You can see all sorts of historical artifacts and dioramas as well as interact with educational displays and touchscreens. There are also two gift shops and a cafeteria, to complete the tourist feel. As for the active campus part of the site, there is an hour and ten minute tram tour that takes you around the most-used buildings and inside of the vessel test lab. The tram tour ends at the Saturn V hangar where an actual rocket is on display in all its segments. Back at the museum, you can then also climb through one of the Boeing 747 that were modified to carry the Space Shuttles (with a full-size training mock-up of a Shuttle mounted to the top. Plenty to see and do and buy... though the cafeteria selection was very limited and pricey. So we opted to eat elsewhere. Recommended for the space history buffs, although others may be a little less enthusiastic about the museum and tours since there's not much inspire new curiosity in visitors. read more

When in Houston, this is a must see. I got our tickets from Groupon so we saved a lot of time during the admission. What we regret was not coming earlier. During weekdays, it opens only up to 5 pm unlike on weekends that is up to 7 pm. There are so many interesting things to see and with the long line that is unbearable , the chance of seeing all of it is slimmer. I enjoyed the story shared by the astronaut about his and his team missions when we attended the Meet and Greet portion of our tour. Fascinating to know about their preparation and life before and after each mission. I surprised myself enjoying seeing a real space shuttle that is on displayed due to cancellation of its trip. My children enjoyed being in the real mission control room. What we missed to see is the training facility for the astronauts. May we get the chance to see it on next visit if there will be. Being inside the building of highly presented NASA exhibits is an amazing experience. You do not need to know about astronautical science , it is being explain at all ! read more

Not much to do and an overall boring experience. The one in Florida is much much better. The wait times for the trains to the Mission Control center is very long and you cannot walk there even though it's so close by. Also DO NOT use any machines (vending and any other ones), they may not work and scam you, and the staff can't do anything about them. I would recommend the one in Floridas but not really here, unless you just want to use your houston citypass on something. read more

Having grown up during the space race, we really wanted to visit. Some of the exhibits we're interesting and nostalgic. The team tours were disappointing. The young women doing the narration we're unintelligible. Not sure if this was fault of the equipment or of the operator. Nevertheless we had no idea what she was saying (there were 4 of us to and we were in agreement on this point. Yours get delayed with rain. The information about Artemis and Orion were probably the highlight of the trip. Might be more interesting for a younger person who has little knowledge of space race. read more

The reasons why today is the day for me to finish this draft is because the U.S. Congress passed legislation establishing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the civilian agency responsible for coordinating America's activities in space, on today's date on July 29, 1958. While I did grow up right along with NASA it's origins go back to the early 40's and has a fascinating history. It's early years, for me, are very controversial (look up operation paperclip) and there's been a lot of others like when they lost the Apollo 11 moon footage, wow people are still taking about that one. But beyond the missteps and political wranglings NASA has been enormously beneficial to our curious minds and out everyday lives. Let's talk camera phones, portable computes, memory foam, freeze-dried food, firefighting equipment, emergency "space blankets", DustBusters, cochlear implants, and of course, TANG :-) In the 63 years since it's establishment there's been innumerable discoveries but with their partnerships with the European Space Agency, SpaceX, Blue Origins and others for space tourism the work is already underway plans including landing the first woman on the Moon, establishing a space station in orbit around the Moon, and returning samples of Martian rock to Earth and beyond with a manned Mars mission. It's all pretty fantastic indeed! I would be remiss if I didn't mention one of the most tragic NASA events, 36 years ago Jan 28th, when the space shuttle Challenger exploded just after takeoff, with the loss of all it's 7 crew. The first teacher-in-space Christa McAuliffe, astronauts Gregory Jarvis and Judith Resnik, mission commander Dick Scobee, astronaut Ronald McNair, pilot Mike Smith, and astronaut Ellison Onizuka. It was a very, very sad day. For many of the GenX this was probably their first "remember where you were" moment in history. Switching gears, for all of you fellow sky gazers here's something that's coming up. The Perseids are the most popular meteor shower as they peak on warm August nights as seen from the northern hemisphere. The Perseids are active from July 17 to August 24 and reach a strong maximum on August 12th. Normal rates seen from rural locations range from 50-75 shower members per hour at maximum. Bought tickets the night before costing over $150 and no where does it state once you get in you have to go to guest services to get a card to do tram tour. So couldn't see Saturn 5 or anything but the small bit of junk in the main building. Also not very kid friendly anymore not much for smaller kids to see or do. Food overpriced as well. There were a lot of interactive exhibits that I enjoyed a lot (I did not bring kids) and there were certainly 2-3 hours worth of to explore the entire place, with some stuff being a little rushed through. There are still some cool things like the plane and the rocket you can go in and visit. The most disappointing thing was the supposed tram tour which in reality only goes through a tiny road and dumps you into the parking lot to see the one rocket exhibit. I was hoping to see more of the campus. Parking was easy but fills up fast. Like others have said it's full of kids running and screaming and not much more than kiddie level detail. I thought this was a great place for those who love Astronomy and space history, but it is targeted mostly to children and is very disappointing. I wished it had more artifacts and talked more about the history of NASA. And there is way too many people to see anything. It is not worth the price as it is too small and little things to see. The gift shop is overpriced and has very uninteresting things to buy. If you look at their calendar online, you might be able to see an astronaut talk about space and even ask him/her some questions. Now, if you like spending money for no reason really, you can have lunch with an astronaut, surrounded by others that paid too. Very cool experience! The Space Center Houston tour guides take you through the Johnson Space Center explaining what everything is, how it got there, what it's used for, etc. We really enjoyed learning about NASA and the space program. The guides are knowledgeable and there is a lot to see. There is a considerable amount of walking, but they do their best to make accomodations. If you are able to do all of the tours, you will be there for at least several hours. You would be able to enjoy a nice experience at Space Center Houston without going on the tours of the government property JSC, but it was a neat addition. Since we're animal lovers, we enjoyed learning that JSC is also a wildlife refuge and seeing deer and other animals. read more

Most unorganized tours I've ever been on. If you plan to visit during a holiday weekend, get there early. Book your Tram Ride tours at the facility at the desk. The app they have for booking them doesn't notify you when your tour is loading (even though it says it will notify you) so then you miss your tour. These tours book very fast. Seriously, one of the worst experience we've ever had. Do not recommend during any holiday weekend. It might be better if it's less crowded. read more

Like others have noted this place is not any fun any more. "Lines to wait in lines" is by far the best explanation I've run across. I was here years ago when my kids were small and there were no such thing as lines. You can no longer visit the "buoyancy lab" which is a shame as we were able to actually see astronauts training before. Now there are 2 "public" tours with interminable wait times to get on the trams, and seas of people all pushing and shoving to get to the separation glass at the various venues. You are also forced thru a "cattle" gate where they take your picture prior to waiting in line for the tram, and another funnel upon your return, to sell you back the picture (I'm sure its logged onto a database somewhere as well) We went into the souvenir shop to pic up a T shirt and it reminded me of a Walmart on black Friday! So turned off... it turned into a hard NOPE for me! Then you start actually looking at the exhibits and displays and it starts to dawn on you how much $$$ has/is spent on this program...don't get me wrong, the technology is really cool!! But SpaceX has accomplished virtually the same thing on a significantly smaller budget! What if they turned their focus to eliminating trash on the planet? Stopping global warming? I was really turned off by the crowds this time and the truncated tour options they offer now, and this review reflects my disappointment. If you are a big fan of crowds, being jostled and people all in your personal space then you will love it here! Myself, I'm going to make a dental appointment for a root canal with no anesthesia...sounds like more fun! It was a first time visit for my companion, however, who other than the aforementioned interminable lines and mind numbing crowds enjoyed the exhibits, and felt like she came away with a greater understanding of the NASA program. read more

But we had a terribly tour guide, Beverly made stuff up, is very quiet, doesn't know who Wernher von Braun is and doesn't know what Russia used to be called but does remember "That it was a long name." She was at least 55 years old so no excuse for forgetting the Soviet Union. She would point to something and say, "I don't know what that is but maybe it did this..." Don't go here for galaxy lights it take forever to get inside because the pictures they take in the beginning (don't get me wrong the pictures were great) once you get inside there not a lot to see your paying 30 dollars for 40 minutes worth of lights that are HALF BROKE and I order a burger and fries for 15 bucks and the burger was under cooked it was still red and I was there for all of half an hour and saw everything i was in the line to get inside longer then I was actually inside they don't have a zero G area like I was told on the phone they only have virtual reality I bought ticket for tram at 2:50 and the last tram was at 3 and they wouldn't let me get a refund I was told "tough luck" and "better luck next time" I would highly recommend you go to Festival of Lights in Dickinson FOR FREE or the Houston zoo rather then spend 30 dollars per ticket for a experience like this definitely not worth it at all read more

Words cannot express the unimaginable hell that awaited me at NASA. When people think of NASA, they think of fun, wonder and amazement. When I think of NASA, all I can think of is lines. There were so many lines. There were lines to wait in the lines. I don't consider myself the most religious man, but I really found God while waiting a total of three hours in line to get to the astronaut training facility. Moreover, if there is a hell, this is what it would be. Just when you think the line is going to end, it reveals to you that there is in fact even more people ahead of you. Never in my life have I yearned for someone to end my misery so much. At this point I just want the space program to be terminated so the museum eventually closes and no one will be forced to endure this living hell. The fact that this facility is even continuing to admit people with the intention of having them spend eternity waiting for a tram is reprehensible, repulsive, sadistic and probably a violation of the Geneva Convention. I'd try to get my money back but I won't allow them the satisfaction of making me wait in another line. read more
