It's nice to have Indian food on the East side, even if what Nasha is best at is not traditional Indian food. The atmosphere is fitting; cute house, cool mural, authentic silverware, and pop Bollywood music. Service is efficient and helpful for the staff size. The Good: *Full bar and half off happy hour specials on all their non seafood appetizers. *Two great lunch specials everyday. *The sweet cardamon lassi was deeelicious. *Lamb samosas are non traditional, more like empanadas but I loved them. *Their more European or fusion dishes are their tastiest, particularly the millionaire's curry and the tikka masala. *Naan is good, on the thin side and well toasted. *"Desi Hot" is actually really spicy! As in eyes watering-nose running-I need to slow down for a minute-spicy! From The Bad to The Ugly: *Paneer given in an order is rather skimpy, there were maybe 4 pieces? *That delicious lassi from earlier? I was a little concerned that it was poured from a premixed pitcher and arrived warm. *The saag was water logged and all the flavor was lost in the non-reduced sauce. *Vindaloo was absurd with the amount of tomatoes, it covered up the oily, spicy, vinegaryness of the dish. There are other dishes to get your tomato sauce fix, leave vindaloo alone! *The Korma had so much added sugar, I had to send it back. Tomatoes, cream, and nuts blended together should be sweet enough. *Added sugar is a concern here, maybe they're trying to cater to a more Western palate, but I ordered the Peshwari naan described as being filled with nuts, nothing else, and it was covered in sugar, literally. It was like dessert, I saved it and had it with a cup of coffee at home! Here's the thing about 3 stars, they're not bad places. Some 3 stars are places I frequent, and I can see myself coming back to Nasha, but your enjoyment will vastly depend on your prior experiences and expectations. Was in and out in 10 minutes. The first table we got seated at had meat/rice on the table and on a chair.. Could be seen from 10 feet away yet the wai staff couldn't see it while walking us there. We pointed it out and she led us to another table. Once seated I went to the restroom and found, in the restroom and the corridor outside dead cockroaches (September 15 at 1215 pm). We walked right out and are never going bad. Sad, because the food at the owners other restaurant was phenomenal. But pests are simply a big no no. read more

I had lunch here with some coworkers after we completed a volunteer project on the southeast side. One of my colleagues couldn't stop raving about the place. Well, it lived up to the hype! The food is delicious! I had the shahi korma with chicken. There was an explosion of flavor in my mouth after the first bite. The cashew/almond sauce was perfect. This is definitely fusion Indian and not traditional Indian for most of the menu items. I have to say I really love their plate ware and glassware. Do: 1. Come for lunch or happy hour so you won't be out too much if you don't like it 2. Order the lamb samosas because they aren't traditional but, they are amazing 3. Raita Sauce: Order it and dip your nan bread into it (think gyro sauce with a bitter taste) 4. Order the garlic nan 5. If the millionaire's curry is on the lunch plate special order it and gobble up the delicious green beans 6. Mix the garbanzo beans in sauce into your basmati rice and curry 7. Do realize the curry is going to be very mild compared to traditional Indian curry Don't: 1. Add shrimp to your curry lunch plate because the quality and portion size isn't worth the extra money 2. Skip the "salad" that comes on the lunch plate special because it's just dry lettuce (Not good) 3. Don't expect to sit outside and eat on the patio in the heat because it isn't covered 4. Parking is limited in their private lot so get there early 5. Skip the weird dessert that comes with the lunch plate because it's a weird paste in a cup 6. Capsule review: first trip here on a Friday evening as a group of four, and my friends and I really enjoyed our experience. Nasha isn't quite classic, but a very solid four stars. Pluses: many, including a range of spice levels appropriate to Indian food, solid service, very reasonable prices, cool art, great location. We split the vegetarian and lamb samosas for the first course: lighter and flakier than conventionally deep-fried samosas, they were both solid on their own, even better dipped in the tamarind and mint chutneys with which they were accompanied. Like everything at Nasha, they're served on beautiful beveled silver plates. For the main course we divvied up four curries (three medium, one extra hot) with garlic naan. The curries varied from good (aloo gobi and shahi korma) to fantastic (tikka masala with chicken, goat vindaloo). The spice levels are real here, so order mild if you're not into that. Medium means medium, and the goat vindaloo (the one we ordered hot) had a marvelous, building, lingering burn to it, perfectly and unobtrusively integrated into the character of the dish itself. The goat was succulent and tender. The naan, fresh, hot and big, did the job of soaking up our remaining sauces. Art depicting scenes from Indian myth aligns the walls and the exterior of the building. It's cool. Our sever, Amanda, was polite and efficient, almost apologetic for having to interrupt our spirited conversation to bring us more delicious things. There's a full bar with decent beer selection and very reasonable beer and wine prices. A local IPA rinses down hot food nicely. Even with a couple of drinks thrown in, we ordered plentifully and still only looked at a $72 check for four people, really only a few bucks more than you'd spend for an Indian buffet of decidedly inferior quality. Minuses: the small space leaves tables too close together, so you may bump arms with your neighbor. It's not he biggest thing in the world, but does detract from the atmosphere a little. Also, it doesn't seem like the place was renovated much since the previous occupancy, so the floor could probably use some re-tiling. In any case, these are fairly minor issues, and I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. (Goat tacos, you say? I am intrigued.) read more

Nasha is an excellent example of a restaurant that brings you near-authentic while playing with fusion and delicious food while foregoing the unnecessarily high dollar value and pretentiousness like the Kiran's of Houston presents. This place gets me so much happiness and that is what you want from a restaurant after leaving. Happy memories. This is the complete opposite of what a dementor does when encoutered within the deathly hallows and that is why you should come get high on food at Nasha. After being told there was a 45 minute wait at another restaurant my friend suggested we try this place out as she had heard mixed reviews. After living in Texas for so many years and trying even more Indian restaurants this one really hits the nail on the head with getting their spices right. For the appetizer we ordered their version of chips and salsa which consisted of fried papadum (aka papad) with a salsa-like-salsa and a mint+coriander yogurt (raita). It was the first time that I have ever had papad with anything other than by themselves and it was a very pleasant experience. For my drink I ordered the sweet cardamom lassi. Usually people complain about that they don't like lassi. I tell them it's because in early 2000's there was a craze for mango lassi and ever since then people in America only really just serve mango lassi which I have a huge disdain for unless it is made right. This sweet cardamom lassi is life in a glass. I highly recommend it because it is soothing to the pallet without being overpowering and will aid you in eating your food if you find the spices to be a problem. Our server was trying to dissuade us from ordering the goat biryani because she said the biryani starts out with medium spices instead of mild. We said we can handle the heat. We decided to share our meals family style. In addition to the goat biryani we had the chicken tikka masala and the paneer coconut curry. Unlike many restaurants that I eat at in Houston, the naan at this restaurant was not complimentary and was a little bit on the buttery side. The goat biryani was cooked to near perfection. I was really not able to detect any presence of saffron in it but the minute small of rose water added to balance out the flavorings of the garam masala really meshed well together and was flavorful and NOT spicy as our server had indicated. The chicken tikka masala went really well with the naan. Both curries came with a side of plain white rice. We literally had the dishes wiped clean by the end of our meals. My favorite was hands down the goat biryani. We did not ask for it to be spicy because asking food to be spicy at an Indian restaurant is like signing your own death warrant if you can't handle spicy food. Note of caution: there were some brittle bones of the goat in the rice so be careful while eating that if you are not used to it. Overall, the ambiance was great and cozy. The bar area was fully stocked and what I found quite humorous was a little statue of Ganesh surrounded by bottles upon bottles of liquor. If you want a truly amazing food experience that will transcend any other Indian food experience then Nasha is a must. They really knew what they were doing when they went with the name of the restaurant which in Hindi colloquially means - to get high/to be inebriated. This indulgent experience is also vegan friendly. read more

Ate here today for the first time and I loved it. They had a killer jalapeño naan that was the perfect amount of chewy for me. I ordered the millionaires curry with chicken and it was perfect. This curry is tomato based And I strongly recommend it. The spices are executed perfectly and the rice spiced with star anise was great. They carry Dogfish Head India Brown Ale which I love and is hard to find around town but perfectly compliments a spicy curry. My lady friend had their chicken korma which was so good. It was almond and cream based and was the perfect balance between sweet and spicy. I ordered dal soup as well which was killer. The best I've ever tried by far. Salty and smooth. A perfect soup for the colder weather. They had some interesting Mexican/Indian fusion tacos that will be on my list to try for my next visit. I will be back. read more

I hate leaving negative reviews but when the food is subpar to bad, it's hard to overlook. Short story: ordered 3 dishes so we could sample a variety. The primary flavor was salty. Which is bonkers considering the spices available in this cuisines. Millionaire curry was barely decent but tangy. Cauliflower was ho-hum but salty. Kale w/ Chana had 2x the salt. And if he first response after informing the waiter is that you'll be charged to replace it, well, it leaves an even saltier taste in the tongue. To their credit, they didn't charge us. I had already eaten so I asked for a chai with some dessert. My Friend had an order of tika masala which for the both of us was pretty average but in comparing it to other places we've only tried before. The restaurant itself is very nice and the menu offers up some Tex Mex variety. The naan was fresh but was a separate charge. Worst Indian food I've ever had. Had the CTM and it was mediocre at best. I've had both authentic and Americanized Indian food and this wasn't like any CTM I've ever had and not in a good way. Not a traditional or "fusion" tasting CTM, just different and not as good as the traditional classic. Much sweeter. I also ordered medium spice and it had no spice whatsoever, not even mildly. It was also a $13 take out CTM and it ended up being almost $16 when I picked it up? The server was really rude and I was in a rush so I didn't have time to question it. Was curious about TexMex Indian fusion so we cabbed it here from south congress. We had just missed the lunch special time - it ends at 2. So we ordered a la carte. Had the chicken tacos which were good but didn't taste particularly Indian. And then got the millionaire curry with paneer. Enjoyed the tanginess of it but it was very spicy. I had read the previous reviews where ppl had said it wasn't very spicy. So I ordered it spicy. My husband who is half Indian couldn't finish it. Next time will get just regular. We sat outside on the patio so our clothes wouldn't smell after lunch. It was cool out there but there were wasps and bees and I have a disproportionate fear of them. Overall it was fine but I don't think I need TexMex Indian fusion. Just regular Indian is good for us. read more

Nasha means vice, addiction, or even intoxication in hindi...this place quite the complete opposite. It was very repulsive...I ordered a lamb biryani and lamb saag. The spices weren't too bad. Medium was ok and hot added good flavor but instead of enhancing food it just burned and lingered. However, the flavors seemed very white washed and toned down to please the colonizers. The saag was literally just boiled spinach in a soup mixture. It was not well blended and seemed to separate. Saag is suppose to be creamy and pasty. Would not recommend someone paying $15+ dollars per entree for Indian food for poor quality tasting food and the amount they give you. Everything I've had on the menu (tried most of the tofu curries, pakoda, samosas, chile rellenos, and paneer enchiladas) has been so delicious! Lots of solid vegetarian and vegan options. I like the food, but I had a pretty negative experience with a manager this evening. I ordered online for pick up, but didn't realize the pick up time was set for ASAP. I called immediately to rectify my mistake, and push my pickup time 1.5 hours later. I was told they don't do pick up orders ahead of time. A little weird, but no big deal I asked if I could push my pickup time, and that I had already paid. I was told I couldn't change anything about the order because it was through a third party (the only pick-up option on their website). Instead of kindly offering a refund (or any solution) I was told by a manager "i can't do anything" and "I don't know what to tell you" multiple times. Not exactly a comfort to hear from a manager after you've paid, lol I've been working in kitchens for years, and I know the struggles of dealing with the 3rd party apps. But this was a problem that could easily have been solved with a pen and post-it note. I've done it countless times myself, I wouldn't even call it an inconvenience. Having extra notice isn't a problem in any kitchen I've heard of. So, if you want to change anything about your order, they won't do it. You need to get a refund through the app (takes 4-5 days to hit the bank), and reorder. I got the refund, but it wouldn't have been necessary if the manager just picked up a pen, or gave the kitchen a heads up. I didn't reorder, btw I had always really liked this place, the service and food has always been great, up until today. But there's also lots of good Indian food in the beautiful city. read more

(Nasha is located in the hip end of 7th street that is the niche to many quirky eateries. The exterior of the restaurant features an expansive, vibrant mural that works as a pre-meal photo op for all of you social-media savvy folk! Serving up dishes that playfully combines both Indian cuisine with Mexican influences, Nasha had some commendable items that didn't break my bank(!!!). I was very impressed with how Nasha got all the details right by incorporating the use of steel "thali" plates and cups into the holistic dining experience. They created a culinary diverse palate by incorporating lesser known Indian dishes such as malvani and konkani, which perfectly complement mainstream dishes like paneer tikka masala into the menu. For the food: My friend and I ordered vegan tofu curry tacos, which packed in quite a bit of flavor for something that was so small. The mango lassi (which is usually a hit or miss for Indian restaurants) wasn't too sweet, but had the right notes of fruitiness and yogurt - definitely a good place for a first timer to gauge their palate for mango lassi. The saag paneer was the perfect quantity to be split between to people, and paired well with the soft, fluffy garlic naan (worth the extra dollar to go with the garlic variety). While Nasha aimed to coalesce Indian and Mexican cuisine, I thought the Indian cuisine was more prominent, with the Mexican cuisine being a creative presentation sidekick. Megan the manager is very unprofessional and aggressive. She brushed me off then argued with me at 11:10pm on a Monday night. The server was fine enough but the manager asked me to quiet down my Snapchat while I was at the bar, in a loud and crowded restaurant. When I told her it was inappropriate for her to ask me to quiet my Snapchat video without asking the other customers to do the same she brushed me off and decided to be passive aggressive and tell me it was my fault that she overstepped. She blamed me for her actions instead of listening to how she directly impacted a customers experience. She is not ready for managment. I will not be returning. Sorry for the length - outline why I won't come back: - spent a long conversation with the bartender (who you order food from) that I have the genetic condition where cilantro tastes awful to me. He chatted with me about it and made conversation about how it sucks. I considered leaving the restaurant b/c he explained to me that nearly everything has cilantro and can't be removed. He then suggested me an appetizer & curry that didn't have cilantro cooked into it. I ordered both. Surprise, the appetizer had cilantro. The server who brought it out then used his fingers to pick up cilantro on my dish to say "see? It's just garnish. You can pick it off." (I mean, ok but I did make it a point? Also note that in the photo I included, I had most of it picked off by then) - $14 for a chicken curry ($4 up charge for chicken on a $10 base meal) and it was small in comparison to other Indian places in the area. - $9.50 for a margarita with mostly ice & took a while to to get considering that we were the only ordering table. The bartender cleaned off a big top before making our drinks that we ordered before they big top left. I will say that my friend got the Mexican Martini, and it did seem well worth it - The servers turned on the bright lights that shined in our faces to let us know they were closed ~15 minutes before they were actually closed. (However, we are sorry for being there so close to closing time. We got there at 10 but thought the bar closed at 12) The place was cute but the quality & quantity didn't match up.
