The vibes in here are the pits. We walked in to a nearly empty restaurant and they refused to seat us outside because we weren't doing a tasting menu. We ordered the beef tartar which was average. We were way oversold in the octopus, having been told it was superior when in truth it was very average. The lobster Mac and cheese was pretty good. I've dined at some amazing restaurants and this is certainly at the top of the list. Romantic setting makes for a special evening. I had the lobster 5 course entree which was very tasty and inventive. Each course came with a detailed explanation, and were never rushed. My husband only had a three course entree but he was provided 2 bonus dishes to ensure I was never eating alone, special touch. We had read such great reviews of this place that we planned the first day of our trip around it! The service was excellent, but the food was just so-so. We started at the bar and both the drinks and bartender were great. We did the four course menu with a seafood tower. The mussels were fantastic from the tower, but everything else was just OK. The pieces of uni seemed like the dregs left over - not what you would expect to find at a fine dining restaurant. The lobster bisque was spicy and heavy on lemongrass so you couldn't really taste the lobster at all. The risotto was mushy and tasted only of fennel. The duck was fine, but not anything special - the accompanying cabbage was the same. The lobster was also just fine, which we were surprised to find. The rice it came on was tasteless and mushy. The dessert (cheese plate & white chocolate ice cream/mousse) was delicious. When asked how our food was, we were honest that it didn't meet expectations. The waitress (who was very attentive) sent over a manager who was nice and apologetic. She gave us two glasses of dessert wine and comped one drink for each of us. A truly elite dining experience in a gorgeous turn of the century setting. We have been to most of the best spots in Boston/Somerville/Cambridge so my wife and I did not expect to be blown away by any dining options on the mid coast of Maine. Natalie's exceeded all expectations and delivered in terms of service, ambiance and most of all creative beautiful plates of food. I did the Lobster based tasting, and my wife did the Chef's menu and they both knocked our socks off. The constant extras from the kitchen were really a nice touch too, and as a huge Rioja fan I was ecstatic to find a great reserve bottle there to enjoy. Two and a half hours and only received two courses. We must have visited on a night when the timing was off throughout the establishment. 10-15 minutes seated before we saw our waitress, 15 minutes more till the cocktails we're served. The first and second courses-which were excellent- arrived about 45 minutes apart. The sommelier was knowledgeable and charming and our server was pleasant and doing her best. After a couple of polite urgings on our part to deliver the third desert course, we gave up, paid our $200 bill and left without it explaining that we had somewhere else to be. We ate here two nights ago and it was exceptional. My spouse is a Paris-trained chef who formerly worked in the kitchen of a three-star Michelin restaurant ... and he was even wowed by the meal. We did the four-course lobster tasting menu and it was great. Each course had distinctive flavors, and the lobster was prepared to perfection fir each course. Here's the mostly lowlights: 1: Bartender and Somalier/ Maitre D' were standoffish and not really interested in helping. I'm a wine aficionado and was looking forward to this part of the dinner. 2. Food is more about the presentation and how it's plated than the actually quality and taste. And of course when more effort goes into plating, it arrives warm at best, never hot. 3 Very little local sourcing - and with so many great farm to table restaurants in Maine, why not here? One of the best meals my wife and I have had in recent memory. You can tell the chefs here take pride and care in what they do. What I really liked about this place was the focus on local, seasonal ingredients and the fact that while the dishes leaned towards traditional, they still had a lot of originality. We started with a shaved asparagus salad that was awesome. My wife had the steak, which was phenomenal, and I had the halibut which was cooked to perfection. And we weren't planning on having dessert, but when we saw them, we had to. We had a chocolate cake with sesame ice cream. Mmmm. We sat at the bar here as they didn't have any reservations left the night we went and really enjoyed watching the chefs prepare the meals. The first thing that you need to realize about Natalie's, is that it's a place to dine, not a place to grab a bite to eat. If you are the sort of person who enjoys the meal for what it is, a time to share food and conversation with loved ones, to experience and enjoy new or interesting flavor combinations, and to generally take in the experience, you will love it. If you are the sort of person who eats for utility and want's to get in and out and on with your evening, you will likely be frustrated. My wife and I ate here in October, during the leaf-peeping season. We had arranged a package prior to arrival that included a 5-course menu at Natalie's. Although it isn't on the menu, I think it could probably ordered if desired. The menu offers a 3-course menu or a 7-course menu. For our 5 courses, we were given the opportunity to select from a list, but we declined and asked the chef to provide us his selections. Additionally, we added on a wine-pairing for each course. Every course and every paired glass of wine was awesome. We've been fortunate enough to have visited many international locations, so our "best meals eaten" list contains some pretty heavy contenders. For me, at least, it was easy to add Natalie's to that list. Each course was both creative and new, yet at the same time, familiar and comforting. The preparation and presentation were done wonderfully. Now, the portion sizes are what you would expect when eating quality products. That is, they are generally smaller than you might get at a local chain or lower-quality eatery. That said, by the end of the meal, I was stuffed. It's important to realize that quantity of food has zero correlation to quality or satisfaction. So for me, this is aok, especially given that I felt completely full at the end. The wine pairing was fun. The sommelier selected matching wines for each course, presented them to us along with stories of the winery and tasting notes. If you are a wine lover, as we are, you will greatly enjoy this. If you just want "red wine" with dinner, perhaps skip this, as you won't find it nearly as awesome. We loved it and would do it again. Service was efficient and everything you could hope for. A few comments have stated that they felt like the staff were cold or somehow off-putting. I would agree with a minor point, in that many of the staff seem to be preoccupied with their duties, so sometimes, the start of an interaction seems like you are disturbing them, and thus, feels cold. That said, after engaging through that barrier, every single one of the staff went out of their way to make us feel like we were the priority, whenever we had a question or issue. (there were no issues at dinner, other than wanting to meet the chef). The ambiance was great for date-night with the wifey. I saw a few larger tables, so if you went with others to enjoy a nice long meal, you'd have a good time. That brings up the length of the meal. It was long... But in a good way. I appreciate meals that allow me the time to enjoy a course, converse with my friends and family, enjoy the experience, without being rushed. This is dining. So know that if you are looking to get in and out, you will be irritated. Last point was the bar. When we were there, the bartender was a guy named Seth. His drinks are phenomenal. He is the kind of bartender that given a few clues as to your general tastes, can and will create something delicious for you. He has a list of creations in the drink menu, but off-menu was far more entertaining and fun! So.... to summarize: To experience dining at it's finest, with quality food and drink, and an overal great experience, you will love Natalie's. I was excited about dining here. We had a reservation that was confirmed by phone and secured with a 25$ deposit that was not honored as when we arrived, were told a 45 minute wait to sit outside. When we arrived, we were not seated outside, instead inside where the bar tender was not wearing his mask appropriately and never washed his hands. The music was loud and annoying. The staff acted like robots and could have been replaced by same. The food was entirely underwhelming for the price and we left hungry. Really, 4 scallops for 32$? The haddock was overcooked. The sommelier after selecting a wine never returned to see how we enjoyed it or offer any other pours. I will never return for sure. We were shamed that we had a bit of difficulty scanning their menu. I successfully did accomplish, however the pages of fine print were not user friendly, and hard to read. Staff acted like we were technology idiots. After a great meal and dining experience in BarHarbor the night before, I realize what an expensive dinner should look like. This was not it. Well decorated, intimate venue. More "high class" than most of Maine's dining establishments; they ask that people dress up - many of the patrons had blazers. To start, the cocktail menu is well organized: listed by favorites, as well as by type of alcohol. An easy way to navigate the cocktails. All of our drinks were incredibly well made, with fresh ingredients and just the right strength. For food, we chose the five course tasting menu with the wine pairing - and a great choice it was. We started with an amuse bouche trio of carrot soup (a shot), a chick pea square, and a parmesan crisp with goat cheese - amazingly well made and tasty. Next, the two local oysters were fresh and salty; a nice entry to the meal. The beet carpaccio with goat cheese was super fresh and local. The next course for me were three delicious beef raviolis, covered in a modern foam. My companions had the asparagus risotto, delicate and tasty. We moved on to the entrees. The grilled salmon with a pea (?) puree was outstanding; I'm not a "salmon guy" and I loved every morsel. The duo of beef included a short rib and a tenderloin, both bursting with fresh, rich flavor. The lobster and homemade spaghetti was also perfectly made, with a tomato base and chunks of claw meat - along with a tempura tail on top! The cheese was the better desert choice, with a tasty selection and appropriate accompaniments. Lowlights included their refusal to substitute ONE dish for our teenage son (hamachi instead of oysters to start). I was spending more than $600 - and the place was not half full. They should have gone out of their way to please us; that was a bad move on their part. Second issue was the waitress' total lack of explaining the dishes to us. They dropped off our dishes and left hurriedly. Strange. The highlight was the sommelier, the best employee in that entire place. He explained the dishes, chose amazing wines, and let us try some extra ones to help us decide for certain pairings. He was simply amazing. Wonderful breakfast, lunch and dinner. We stayed at the Camden Harbour Inn for three nights and got to try many options out of Natalie's kitchen. For breakfast: lobster Benedict, stuffed blueberry French toast, apple pecan pancakes, and the sausage-potato frittata were all fantastic. We got a picnic lunch with a very simple and delicious lobster roll. And for dinner we had a five-course chef's tasting menu, which had shaved Brussels sprouts salad, lobster bisque, brown butter-fried skate, pork two ways, and three-layer chocolate dessert. It's pricey but well worth it if you have the chance to eat there while in Camden. Try the signature Tequila Mockingbird as well! read more

There is a bar to sit and enjoy a cocktail before dinner. The wait staff are appropriately dressed, professional and attend to detail. There is a short, but quality wine list. This was a nice evening Prix Fixe dinner running $72/person for 3 selections. You can get more selections for $104/person, and of course wine pairings for an additional amount. This is a Relais & Chateaux, 4 Diamond Awardee AAA restaurant. Reservations are recommended. The wine list is quite good. Quantities of food (for us) are perfect and not overwhelming and you will not feel stuffed after dining here, but also not looking for another course either. The ingredients are fresh, some even grown onsite. The panna cotta arugula was excellent and very different. The lobster course was nice. It was a very enjoyable evening. Service was excellent! Personally, I doubt that we will return, just because it wasn't exceptional. read more

I really loved it here. I was surprised by my boyfriend for dinner here one night. I immediately noticed the decor; red, white and black. It was tres cool. The food was different; we shared a 3 course dinner. We had the asparagus risotto (very filling) and the beef ravioli for a starter, the duo of beef and the lobster and fresh spaghetti (it was SO good, homemade spaghetti is fantastic) and then ended with the Grand Marnier parfait. I'm not a huge fan of grapefruit, but the only other option for a dessert was a cheese plate (boring!). The servers are very nice and very quick. They'll notice that you need water before you realize YOU need it! A must try is the pomegranate martini. They are fabulous. Overall, I was very pleased. The decor definitely won me over. If you like some fringe, some red with a little bit of modern thrown in there, you'll really enjoy it here. One last note, it's dressy here, so I woudn't recommend jeans or a t-shirt. read more

Such a classy, elegant place, with an upscale vibe. Meal prices tend to run on the high priced scale, however drinks and wine list is very reasonable for what you get. Dining at Natalie's was a culinary delight! The freshness of resourcing local food products translated deliciously onto our dinner plates. We ordered the tomato gazpacho & lobster appetizers. The gazpacho came out deconstructed, with side elements (basil, ricotta, cucumber cubes, sweet onion/ curry confit(?), and croutons) to add into the soup. The lobster was so fresh & clean as it sandwiched between thin jicama slides. I ordered duck & my companion ordered lobster for our entree selection. The duck breast came out cooked perfectly. The skin was nicely rendered & crisp. Of note, the brussel sprouts were served stuffed with a duck confit, creating a most "ducky" explosion of taste! My companion's lobster entree was delicious. The corn risotto was fantastic, so fresh! We chose The corn ice cream for dessert. They did not disappoint! The essence of sweet corn translated well into a ice cream format! To be very clear, Natalie's is not only one of the best dining experiences in Maine. It's one of the best in the country. And we have eaten at high-end restaurants all over the country. We chose Natalie's as part of our honeymoon dinner weeks ago. They not only met our expectations but far exceeded them. It wasn't enough for the staff to make us feel like a million dollars, we felt like 10 million - from the moment we walked in to the moment we left (and we didn't want to leave). High-level professionalism throughout the entire time we were there, unpretentious, high-level service, high-level execution from the executive chef team, ingenious menu choices. Everything was precise and spot on. The design and purpose of this establishment was centered around making us feel special and comfortable. We had the 7 course tasting menu- outstanding. And we went with the wine tasting to accompany- outstanding (and highly recommended). We can't be more pleased with Natalie's. It's more exciting every time we re-live the experience telling to friends. What a disappointment. We were looking forward to this dining experience and for the price, it did not deliver. 1) Instead of a well orchestrated dining experience, the wait staff is very young and inexperienced, and instead of moving seamlessly, they were bumping into each other. 2) The experience is pretentious and the food does not deliver. We had the four course meal, and for two of us, the second course was terrible, and we did not eat it. We mentioned it to the waiter, but he did not offer us an alternative. The lobster bisque that the other two had was delicious, but there was an $11 up-charge per person. 3) we ordered a bottle of wine and they were out of it. The sommelier suggested an alternative, that was slightly more expensive. The pouring service was slow, and the server took the bottle away when there was still one pour left. We ordered additional wines by the glass, but the pours were very chintzy. 4) overall the food was good, but for $325 a couple, it was a very disappointing dining experience. I would not return or recommend this place. We could not believe this place had a Relaxis & Chateaux designation. read more

Pretention Without Substance Just had dinner here ... very disappointing. It is clear that a lot of money was put into the physical plant, a cross between a New England Inn and a Spanish Bordello in design. It is a pity they have blown the opportunity to have a quality restaurant that fits the building. The restaurant was 25% full on a Sunday evening yet the service was relatively inattentive and spotty. They were featuring a 3 course special with escargot as an appetizer. My wife did not want the 3 course offering but asked to have the escargots as an a la Carte appetizer. The waitress checked with the kitchen and we were told that it could only be served with the 3 course offering. A seemingly unreasonable response given an empty restaurant at 8:20 on a Sunday night in Camden, Maine. An attempt to order a Pinot Gris from their wine list was worthy of a Marx Brothers movie. Twice brought the wrong wine, finally the right wine ...but the wrong year. 2008 listed on the wine list yet only 2007 available. In my experience a sign that management is trying to unload outdated stock on unquestioning customers. Next, having been told "no escargots for you", my wife ordered a morel appetizer on the menu, only to be served a chanterelle dish. When she brought this to the wait staff attention she was told, "we are out of the other". Halibut was ok, scallops as well. Bottom line: over priced mediocre food with way too much attitude and no sense of trying to correct their mistakes when brought to their attention. We will not return. It is a pity because Camden can sustain high-end restaurants if their food and service come close to matching their price point. This is an establishment that clearly relies on the traffic from the B&B in which they reside and probably won't be seen often again. read more

We had the most wonderful dining experience at Natalie's! We sat outside and Megan was our server. She was upbeat, friendly and very knowledgeable about the different menu items and drinks. ALL of the servers were great! The attention to detail with the food, presentation and service was OUTSTANDING! Elegant and quaint atmosphere. We appreciated all of the chef's surprise extra tastings! Our 3 course meal turned into a 7 course dinner, as well as the homemade lollipops when the bill came! We had such a great time!
