When we visit ME, we always go to Maine Street in Brunswick. Maine Street was wonderful as always. It is recommended to have a reservation but we popped in early and asked if there was a chance and the server accommodated us with an hour block before her reservation arrived. Order the bread, it's delicious. Highly recommend the chilled cucumber soup, it was light and refreshing. The Caesar salad had a great bit and the traditional anchovies blended into a perfect bite. My husband had the half tower of seafood. I've never seen him so happy. The service was attentive without hovering. Total professional - even when they started to fill. I noticed a table tipped a water glass and the servers were there to assist. Having worked in busy restaurants for 15 years and fine dining for 5, I can tell you Maine St. is a "do not miss this opportunity" restaurant.

Two years ago, we first stepped into this restaurant when it was known as Maine St. Steak & Oyster under different ownership. We loved it so much back then that when we found out it was sold and turned into Maine St. Bistro we had to come back and check it out -- and I'm so glad we did. Maine St. Bistro gave us an unforgettable dinner experience from the moment we stepped inside. The restaurant is quaint, cozy, and fancy, but not pretentious. It's quite welcoming. The service was top-notch; our waiter was not only friendly but also attentive. While the menu wasn't extensive, it offered a nice variety - during our visit, it ranged from seafood and pork to chicken and risotto. We started with the baked brie and beef tartare and both were delicious. The brie came with these yummy raisins that were to die for. For two people, it was the perfect appetizer. However, I do wish they hadn't used the same crostinis for both apps. For our entrees we had the MSB Burger and the fall risotto. The burger was juicy and my partner couldn't get enough of it. I enjoyed my fall risotto. The presentation was beautiful. My only wish was that the portion had been a bit more generous, especially considering the $26 price tag. To accompany our dinner, we selected a bottle of Argentinian Malbec, and I was happy to see that not all the wine options were astronomically expensive. All in all, an amazing dining experience in Brunswick and we cannot wait to return!

Beautifully plated meals leave you wanting more. Super cute space w/ high ceilings inside of a brick historic bldg. makes you feel like you're dining in a rom-com. Fantastic addition to the elevated culinary scene in Brunswick. We always look forward to the chef's inventive creations on the seasonal menus. Have never had a bad meal here. The blend of simple, fresh ingredients are always flavorful, yet not fussy. I don't know how our fave server Nick is always so warm, friendly, & positive, as hospitality is a tough business. His knowledgeable of good food, enthusiasm for people to have a great experience keeps us coming back. Lunch menu Tues. to Sat.

Went on a rare date night with my husband before Valentines Day. We loved the previous establishment in this location and were craving a steak night. Service was great. The server was very friendly and funny. My steak frites was beautifully cooked with great flavor. There was a little more fat than I like (I know "fat = flavor" but it was over the top) and about half of my steak was a little chewy. Fries were fantastic. I usually like them on the plate with the steak so they can soak up all those yummy juices, but no big complaint there. I just dumped them out of their silly little pail. Dessert was so good. Very tiny portions. My husband wasn't a fan of his, so that meant more for me! Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and the atmosphere, though not quite as much as we loved Maine Street Steak & Oyster.

    Lazy Mussels

Got raw little neck clams and the Lazy Mussels. Amazing food and plating. Chef/owner is a great guy and super polite and friendly. Will be back!

Sitting at the bar for oysters and drinks felt reminiscent of the Portland dining experience. Definitely works for a date night.

An unassuming culinary gem in downtown Brunswick- just a quick walk to/from Bowdoin College and Maine State Music Theater. We stopped in for a plate of fresh local oysters, fried and beautifully-seasoned calamari, and a drink at the bar. Great atmosphere, stylish decor, busy tables of diners, and very friendly and professional service. We've eaten here 3-5 times and have always left remarking on how this place is (in our opinion) Brunswick's best. Clearly inspired by French bistro menus, the vision and execution at Maine Street Bistro is worth experiencing for yourself!

It has all the credentials for perfection...outdoor seating overlooking a body of water...in this case the beautiful Kennebec River, including a spectacular view of the big bridge over it. Watching boats go by, and people walking in the walking path to get to the park right next door...perfect for people and dog watching. Plus, OysHers allows well behaved dogs at the outdoor seating area. The menu includes MANY varieties of sparking wines, including a mimosa flight, and all local oysters, all sourced from women-owned oyster farmers, plus they have their own oyster farm as well. The menu does include a few non-seafood items, such as the classic Maine red hot dog. The menu also includes some caviar in case there is a need for a special occasion caviar celebration. There are a variety of seating options outside and inside. There are firepit tables with Adirondack chairs, regular tables and chairs, picnic tables, and high top tables. There is a beautiful display of the days oyster selection inside on ice. The ordering process is simple...order what you want at the register, tell them where you're seated (we were are fire pit #2) and they bring your order to you. You can start a tab or pay as you go. Each table has a little sign that says what the table name/number is. We went on a Wednesday afternoon so we did not try the fire pit. It is a great reason to go back. We tried the mimosa flight (orange, grapefruit, cranberry, and lemon) and a flight of oysters (4 different varieties). I couldn't tell you which one was best...they were all perfect. I especially loved how expertly they were shucked and cut loose. Every oyster slid out of its shell without any resistance and each oyster had all of its liquor. They were perfectly clean and chilled and served with lemon, a cocktail sauce and a delicious mignonette. My friend also tried a local canned cocktail, Dasch seltzer, that was excellent...not too sweet, lots of blueberry flavor. I can't wait to go back!

The host and server were super nice and we got a good spot overlooking the water and the oncoming boats. But that is where the good parts stopped. Take a look at the photo that I show you. I paid $35 for that crab roll that has NO flavor and the bun was stale and hard and the lobster "slider" was also something to be desired ... we later found out I could have gotten a full fledged lobster roll down the road with a buttered bun with a TON of lobster in it for $19. This was also served with a bag of chips. My wife's salad was also a basic salad because it was all she could eat on the menu (VG) We had to go back into the bar area to have them refill our water as the server really didn't ever come back to us. You had to go back into the restaurant to order the food so it had a takeout seafood shack feel to it while trying to high class it. If I go to an "on the water" restaurant and spend $50 bucks on a plate, it might be a better pick. I didn't the oysters on the half shell at the other tables and those looked great for local sourced oysters. Oh we also had a smoked pollack dip with some ritz crackers that was pretty good but over priced. I don't think we will be back here next time near bath ... will walk up the road to an ice cream shoppe with lobster rolls.

Once you are seated, you're handed a paper menu on which you mark your selections, then bring that marked-up menu to the counter, where you order and get a number. Food is brought up to you, and you can order subsequent rounds of food by crossing out previous orders and marking up the menu anew. I would highly recommend multiple rounds of oysters -- the first to try one of each and figure out which varieties you prefer, the second to get more of the ones you like, and the last to go all in on your favorite. They've got a varied selection that will suit various tastes, whether you favor a large creamy oyster, a small briny guy, or somewhere in between. All from Maine, which made me feel better about having oysters in a non-ber month. The oysters here are top notch, and the shuckers are, too. Not a single speck of shell in there! I love oysters, and this was my paradise. The non oyster items are also worth trying, so if you have a friend who isn't into oysters, there's something here for them, too. The smoked fish dip and french onion dip are awesome, and the chips they get from another local producer are fantastic. Whether you're a beer lover, a wine person, or a cocktailer, they've got something for you here. Any of those could be the perfect company for your favorite oyster, or you could go for their cucumber mint lemonade slushy, which is insanely refreshing and a great palate cleanser between oysters. Service is efficient, welcoming, and friendly. I think anyone from an oyster novice to an aficionado would feel right at home here. If I didn't live on the opposite side of the country, I'd be here all the time. Unfortunately for me, I'm relegated to pining for these oysters from a distance. If you live nearby, take advantage of your proximity and eat some oysters for me.
