We arrived into the Barrens to a lovely ambiance and pleasant encounter with the Staff. After ordering, the appetizer was very unpleasant. "Blueberry Salsa" nothing more than blueberries and onion with chips coated in dense strips of black pepper that hurt the pallet to eat. The main course was plain and wet. All the food is filled with Rosemary in a way that over-powers the non-existent other flavors. The bill came and the price of our strange food made with date, rosemary, and black pepper felt very wrong. Guess we payed triple for the ocean view. The menu appears normal at first but every item seems to randomly have nonsense ingredients mixed in. 2/5 would not go again. Many great restaurants in Camden, this isnt one. read more

Three maximum.. Beer 3, haddock chowder 1 and I am still wondering how they make it without haddock and only celery and the near tasteless broth, and to top it off delivered cold. Service as other's note underwhelming, a 2 maybe. Views 4 and the only way to bump up that grade to a 3. Has to be better places in Camden ... on the hunt this evening and tomorrow. read more

Great location with nice view of the harbor. Server was friendly and attentive. My partner enjoyed the Negroni cocktail made with their own gin. The food was hit and miss - my fried haddock sandwich was cooked well and tasty but my partner's steak frites was not cooked to his satisfaction. It was sliced and then pan seared and ended up a bit dry and tough. read more

The view can't be beat, but everything else was underwhelming. Ordered the pretzel and cheese appetizer which was delivered as pretzel and mustard - "sorry, we are out of cheese." The pasta, steak frites (overcooked), and haddock sandwich were average at best, and portions were quite small. Will not be returning and cannot recommend. read more

I hate to leave such a bad review, but I genuinely cannot remember a time where I have had a worse meal out. The server was very sweet and nice but every dish we ordered was inedible. We had fish and chips, steak frites and a hamburger, all were completely overcooked and dripping in oil. Maybe this is just a place to go for drinks? read more

Nice little find away from the tourist path. Has great views of the harbor. Above all the ambience is very relaxing, fresh local food, and their drinks are amazing. We liked it so much we came back twice. Rachel waited on us. Was very friendly and helpful with menu choices. She even went out of her way to give us recommendations for our planned Portland visit. read more

This is a lovely place right on the harbor of Camden. When you have nice weather it's fabulous to sit on the deck and enjoy the fresh air. The bar area is very cool, and large. My friend and I sat on the patio and enjoyed our meal there. I had the deviled eggs as an app and they were delicious; you also received quite a few. For my lunch I had the BLT and it was very tasty. The herb basil aioli on the sandwich was out of this world and something I still think about. They also chopped up the bacon and that was how it was served on the sandwich which is something I've never had on a BLT before, but it worked. The establishment is a gin distillery so the majority of cocktails are gin based, so keep that in mind. read more

Didn't even get to try the food because the service was so bad. We waited 15 mins for someone to greet us and no one did. We had to pull someone over and she said she could be our waiter but noted that there were only two waiters for the whole restaurant. She said she will be back to get our drink order and after 5 mins she never came back. As we walked to leave she just smiled and waved. We understand that the restaurant was short staffed but no one told us they were and when we left no one apologized for the poor service. read more

Wow! All of it! I am a chef and it takes a while sometimes to well me and well. This placed their housemade pasta was unbelievable and so on point and delicious. blueberry lemonade was a very great delight. How was the blueberry pie! I had a couple of great oysters. This is the absolute best place to have a waterside drink and light bite on the harbor in deck chair or at picnic table in Camden. And not only is the open-wall bar accessible but the spirits are super. All good, from many types of gin and occasional whiskey (some unique collaborations with others) to the creative cocktails. Andrew, one of the owners, is Scottish by blood and I swear he puts a few drops in the tank. There is a shop attatched but you may have to wait for a bartender to be free. The food is limited but homemade. And the dogs are welcome! read more

Stopped by here completely by chance. We were walking around Camden Maine and saw this place across the pier. We stopped in with a group of 4 and we're immediately welcomed by Andrew the owner of the distillery. He gave us some of his delicious blueberry brandy and regaled is with stories of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and his old distillery (that was right down the street) that burned down a couple years back. It was a next door restaurants fault. The restaurant wasn't invited back lol. Thank goodness he came back because this place is an absolute gem. I am writing this review while in the bar because I was so pumped up about the service and selection of custom cocktails. While I am a bit drunk now, I'd love this place sober too. 100% recommend. read more

The portions were small and not very good. The bahn mi was too sweet and not like traditional bahn mi. I had a salad with scallops which was a small serving size and the scallops were too salty and cooked too long. There were only three small scallops, with one cut in half to look like four. For the price, go to the Waterfront restaurant instead. The food there is very good with generous portions. Sorry, we didn't even take pictures of the food we were so disappointed, especially for the price. The view is very nice and ambiance is good. The staff was friendly. read more

The place was humming at full capacity, yet the service was fine and the the food was great, with the minor exception that my chowder could have been hotter. (I like my soup and coffee HOT!!) The upstairs seating area was very pleasant. Good stuff. read more

The reason why many will like this bar: view of Camden harbor, options to sit outside, the staff, some of the drinks. Very much appreciated the vegan option but the wrap wasn't my favorite and I would not order it again. My mojito was a bit watery so wouldn't order that either. read more

Blue Barren is great. We used to go when it was just a few plastic chairs up against a makeshift bar, right on the harbor. Now after a fire this place is reinvented as a distilley with lots of inventiive cocktails and good food. This is the quiet side of Camden Harbor and the views are fabulous. One pro tip, we got here right when it opened and it was packed. As the night wound down it became much quieter. read more

Went 3 times last fall and can't wait to get back there when I return in May. As a distillery, you expect spectacular cocktails and they do not disappoint. Have been imbibing their amazing gins for some time and they get so creative! Andrew and Jeremy and respective families are so gracious. Food offerings are creative and exceptional. Categorically, the best mussels I have ever had. It's located in the Lyman-Morse marina on the north side of the harbor. Worst case scenario, it's a lovely 6-minute stroll. The views are exceptional from that side. A word of caution: they were closed for a private party one evening and we went next door to Salt Wharf. Had a wide variety of apps and every one was a disappointment. We will not return. read more
