Dr Sasson is one of the best health care providers I have come across. I am an MD and am quite critical of most providers. So from me 5 stars means alot. His technical skills and knowledge are beyond comparison. I was in the midst of a root canal done elsewhere due its urgency and late hour. The procedure was not a success and I was about to throw in the towel and get the mess pulled. But I decided to run the situation by him. He looked things over and figured out what to do. It was like watching an artist at work. And he saved the day. And my tooth. (He shaved down the tooth thereby reducing pressure from teeth above). He also is down to earth. I love Dr. Sasson. After an earlier unethical dentist permanently damaged two asymptomatic molars, Dr. Sasson came to the rescue. He helped me manage my constant pain and kept close tabs on my progress, even going so far as to speak with endodontists and an oral surgeon to strategize ongoing care. Wowsa. Let me just say that I have never had an experience with a dentist where I actually felt somewhat depressed when the doctor told me to rinse for the final time. I had separation anxiety upon leaving Dr. Sasson. What a great guy and brilliant clinician (and very funny). He was so thorough in his exploration, his description of what was happening inside my mouth, and his analysis of my x-rays. He seemed to know me intimately through reading my teeth and gums: my creepy proclivities, as well as my routines. He described a process that is happening inside my mouth that two other dentists have shied from explaining. The others mentioned concern about my roots and then just moved on with the conversation when I asked for explanation. Something like, "Yeah, whatevs, you're gonna lose all of your teeth one day, but what were you saying about that little chip you want me to fix?" I was relieved to get the scoop finally from Dr. Sasson and possible remedies. I would not hesitate to have much more extensive cosmetic work done by Dr. Sasson as my friends who go to his Park Slope clinic rave about his artistry. At Mermaid, I spoke with a man in the waiting room who had crowns installed by the doctor years earlier. He actually showed me the fine work, that's how proud he was of his crowns. His fees are extremely reasonable, especially when you consider how brilliant he is. Dr. Sasson's support staff is also wonderful, all very congenial and efficient. Just a great experience. When in the world do you hear that about a dental appointment? Dr. Sasson accepts people without appointments at the Mermaid clinic (by appointment only in Park Slope). I think he's on Mermaid three days a week, so call and find out when you can swing by. read more

I called today on behalf of my fiance who is in a great deal of pain. His face is swollen it hurt to the touch all signs pointed to an abscess. I called the Park Slope location and the women who answered already had her attitude on. After a brief hold I explained to her that he believed he had an abscess if the doctor had anything today. She said no He didn't, I think it's a emergency he can't squeeze him in somewhere. "No, the doctor doesn't have anything today" She said again. I've never worked at a dentist office but my best friend did for many years. If someone called the office and thought they may have an abscess they squeezed them in. I don't know if this person just didn't care, doesn't know, or if the doctor tells the staff no exceptions. But an abscess is not something to take lightly. Competent with decades of experience, explains what he is doing and why, and displays blown up images of your teeth so you can see for yourself and understand why he is doing whatever he is doing. Honest and accepts lots of insurance plans. Makes me feel bad that I do not floss, but he's right and I hope to reform for my own good! Nice man. read more

The only Dentist I trust to take care of my dental needs! For 30 years now ever since he had the office in Coney Island. He's very calm , knowledgeable and funny too! He relieves my anxiety as soon as he walks into the room! I'm going by car service soon it's a fairly far ride but it's worth it! I had a 10:00 appointment for this dentist last week. At 10:15 I asked the receptionist if he was running late. She said she would check. I had to ask her again and her response was (in a very rude tone) that things don't always run on time. At 10:35 I mentioned to another woman behind the desk that perhaps I should reschedule. Her response was that I would have been next, but I could leave if I wanted to. So, I left. If someone would have just approached me and told me the dentist was running late and apologized, I would have waited. However, being rude to the customer is not the answer!! If I showed up 35 minutes late and said I don't always run on time, I am quite sure they would not have found that acceptable. In a city with this many options, I'm sure I can find a dentist who appreciates my business and has decent employees who are friendly. read more

This place is ridiculous. Find any other dentist to repair your teeth. I was overcharged for services they did not need to do and the services they did provide I have had nothing but issues with. They received payment from my insurance and proceeded to charge me an additional $500.00 that I never received an invoice for but was also covered by insurance. I have a denture I cannot wear because it was done incorrectly, I now have more issues with my teeth than ever before and I'm stuck with a very expensive denture that was made poorly, and does not fit. read more

I've used yelp for years, but this place convinced me to write my first review. After scouting around the area, I found this dentist to be the least expensive (I have no insurance). I had my apprehensions about the cheapest place around, but the service was remarkable and the dentist (Dr. Lum) was super friendly. I came in for a check-up, and got a root canal right then and there. No pain (except the Novocain injection), and it only took about 35 minutes. You know how some dentists ask you questions while your mouth is full of stuff? Dr. Lum is much more of a narrator, and I learned quite a lot about teeth. read more

Dr. Sasson is the coolest dentist I have ever met! I absolutely dread going to the dentist but I left smiling after my first visit with Dr. Sasson. I was totally nervous but he was so nice and informative my nerves were quickly put at ease. He went through my xrays with me in a way that I could understand which none of my past dentists have ever done. I've always been bad at keeping up with flossing but now I actually floss regularly just to make him proud. On my return visit I was glad to hear my gums had already improved. His prices are also very reasonable and I have recommended him to everyone I know! My mom even wants to drive up from Philly to see him because of how pleased I've been. The listing here is slight incorrect. Sasson is the last name. Dr. Sasson is absolutely wonderful. I don't have insurance, and he only charges $50 for 2 xrays, cleaning and exam. He's the only person who touches my teeth, so I don't even have to deal with a separate dental hygienist. He spends a lot of time with me, explaining cavities and gum disease and what happens to my teeth as they age. He even took out my cavity, without charging extra! While he's taking out the cavity, he explains exactly what he's doing, and gives me a mirror so I can see what happened to my tooth. A great doctor, and affordable for those without health insurance. I actually look forward to going to the dentist now. read more

It had been 5 years since my last dental appointment, and despite reasonable oral hygiene I was convinced my teeth were full of cavities. My anxiety over losing my teeth finally overpowered my dread of being ritually dressed down by the dentist for not coming in sooner. I sent to see Dr. Sasson despite having no dental insurance. 45 minutes and 60 bucks later, I came out with a clean bill of mouth health--but the guy was so nice I would've been happy to get cavities filled there, had I needed them. He took the time to explain what was going on, and the office, while small, had modern equipment and friendly staff. He didn't make me feel bad for having ditched the dentist for so long, instead just treating me like an adult. He'll definitely have my business again. read more

Dr. Lum is great. He definitely explains why he's doing a procedure on you, and it's actually helpful to know what's going on for once. He also advised me on what to do based on my insurance a few times, with details on which options were better for my teeth regarding a crown. All around, a very good experience; expect a casual atmosphere, Dr. Lum cleaning your teeth himself, and families in the tiny waiting room. In my experience it hasn't been over booked, but occasionally Dr. Lum is being talked to as he's working, or called on to sign something or to quickly advise on something urgent. read more

I went to Dr Sasson due to reviews I read here. Unfortunately, I did not have a pleasant experience. Even though he explained to me what the problem was with my tooth, he was very brief with me and didn't even finish cleaning my teeth properly. It feels like I have food stuck in my teeth now and I'm in discomfort for for a tooth I didn't even come in for. He didn't seem too interested in informing me about any sort of preventive care and was borderline rude if not tactless in his "funny" way of telling me I have to see a specialist. The only plus was that he only charged me $20, so I guess that's all it cost me to realize I want a 2nd opinion. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Sasson for 20 years and I dearly miss his great dentistry, kind and funny personality, fair treatment, and generally balanced approach. Having moved many states away I had to find new dentist and the first one I dumped after much work because I was so unimpressed with his chairside manner and nickel and diming me. I am absolutely terrified of dental work, since it requires much more Novocaine to numb my teeth than is usual ...and previous dentists were not able to provide pain relief or deal with my dental problems. Dr. Sasson is caring, informative, gentle, and extremely knowledgeable and thorough, and has made it EASY for me to attend to my teeth after years of neglect. He is very creative and is able to solve problems relating to my neglect such as making sure a bridge is sturdy even if my supporting teeth are not etc. My husband and 19 year old son also go to him and feel the same way, and Dr. Lum was also wonderful when my son saw him in an emergency. Almost no wait, great staff, immaculate office with all the latest equipment and Dr. Sasson was available in a terrible emergency for me two years ago when I fell and broke two teeth that ended up in my lower lip.
