I'm a Queenster thus, don't come to Brooklyn often however I'm willing to travel despite not driving or getting a ride. Thus, my only means to access Coney Island is the F train to the last stop. This Nathan's is indeed, no doubt the ORIGINAL and business is still booming for them. Their hot dogs are very tasty as well as other dishes such as French fries and chicken. However, one can really gain weight to pack on the calories. I would not dine here all the time. While the food quality has not changed over the years, their prices certainly have to keep up with inflation. For a couple with four hot dogs, French fries, and two messey sodas the total is a shocking approx. $23.00. Children can be satisfied with their appetitite. This Nathan's location hosts the famous annual hot dog eating contest every July 4th. read more

Hey, even I, among the most influential beings ever to walk the face of the earth with staff in hand, am not that good. My favorites are the hot dogs, of course, and the cheese fries. Trivia: Franklin Roosevelt while serving as president, arrived at the original location in Coney Island and entered other world leaders and foreign dignitaries. it's a hotdog. dispite the signs asking for patience after covid and for the new staff, mine ran out after 6-8 minutes watching dead eyed staff slowly sticking dogs in buns so slowly that ... every ones head was exploding. mostly customers trapped because they already paid. the supervisor was slow, barely conscious of what was going on around her and useless. i could see every non-action behind the counter - made it all even worse. two dogs. no condiments. how simple can it be? too simple for nathan's to handle, obviously. after how many years? just terrible experience for the first famous nathan's experience for the four of us. the plant based dog was a hard log according to two of our vegetarians ... awful. our dog was good albeit salty but i'm thinking that's the nathan thing. not sure. read more

Huge lines, minimal parking, staff moves at the speed of molasses. They couldn't care if your in line an hour they still work slow. The person taking orders also has to make food, which in essence is a horrible system as one person or multiple people should take orders while others prepare the orders so there not leaving the register every 30 sec. I ordered fries and TBH they gave me a belly ache... it's become like fast food type of food here. Not cool. I won't be back. As a 1st time visitor to Coney Island, we had to stop at this iconic establishment known for the annual hot dog eating contest. It's a novelty kind of place but yet it still delivers. The have hot dogs, burgers, Philly sammiches, chicken wings and more. If you are a tourist or 1st time visitor, you have to get a hot dog. Their plain hot dogs(mustard. ketchup and relish are available on one of the many condiment carts) are all beef and cost 3.55. I did the math and if you want to try to beat Joey Chestnuts record of 72 hot dogs in one setting it will cost you 255.60 plus tax. YOLO! I got mine with peppers and onion so that cost an additional .35 cents. The daughters and I split a few orders of fries but we should have skipped those all together. They were of the soggy crinkle cut variety and not worth getting. They also serve Coke products which in New York seems to be a rarity. There is a big outdoor seating area with a large amount of benches and picnic tables to sit at. Plus there is another Nathan's on the boardwalk less than a block away where you can find a seat somewhere. So come here and channel your inner Kobayashi and get your grub on. read more

This is my fourth or fifth visit to the original Nathan's on Coney Island. It's definitely a time commitment because it's anywhere from 45-60 minutes by subway depending on which part of the city you are coming from. Yes, they have more than hot dogs but why would you want something else? I had two hot dogs with sautéed onions and fries. Not sure what they do with the fries but they are amazing. My youngest had Mac and cheese and he loved it with fries. I also had a Coney Island Lager which I'm still trying to place which major label it was. Overall you need to stop here. First shop that served hot dogs. I like Nathan's mini hot dogs and crinkled cheese fries. They are the best when you ate in need of high calories. Perfectly paired with carbonated drinks. After waiting years to come here, I finally got my hands on the original fresh off the grill hot dog! And the best part yet I got to eat it in The original store in Coney Island!! It wasn't the hot dog that was the key moment (even though it was delicious) but it was being in Coney Island that set it all apart. The experience of eating Nathan's in front of the store and just relaxing is something special. The store itself is well kept: ten registers or more, wide selection on their menu, ketchup/mustard/relish pump stations, outdoor seating tables, friendly and quick customer service. All of these things made my experience that much better. Overall, I'm thankful to have make it here. I worked hard over the years to have an experience like this. Not eating here at least once very year or two is a sin. This is one of the several things that made Coney Island famous. This applies even if you live here. I do not live here; however, I do visit often. So, Nathan's Famous. It's worth some social media pictures. The food is terrible for you; however, yummy and delicious! The customer service could be a bit better; however, the high stress environment of this place makes that passable. Yes, the hot dog is different from most places. It's thinner and longer with the outside rim of the meat being firmer. But other than that, I'd like to suggest you the good ol' NYC hot dog carts. For me, the best part that stood out the most was actually the ketchup. Their ketchup tastes tomatoey and was slightly more runny! Oh man, let's not get started on their bacon cheese fries! I didn't know the original nathans hot dog was located here!! Stumbled upon this place as my friend and I were going to the boardwalk, which ended up being closed so we decided to stop by here. Also my mom and I always got nathans hot dogs in vegas every time we went so I def had to check out the original location. We got the hot dog, hamburger, onion rings and chili fries and everything was delicious. Unfortunately they don't do soda refills. The chili cheese fries were good at first, but they get very greasy and heavy towards the end. I recommend splitting that. Lots of seats available outside, but seems like it can fill up quickly during the summer and nice days. I came in the middle of may and it actually rained the day we went, but it was sunny and very windy when we stopped by so there weren't a lot of people. read more

Whenever I am in Coney Island I always try to make a pit stop to the Original Nathan's Famous hot dog place. It's just too historic and tasty to miss when there for a day at the beach, the amusement park or the brand new ampitheatre down the boardwalk where some concerts have been happening. It's always been busy when I popped in but I never let that sway me since its not like I am indulging in this all that regularly and the lines tend to move quickly since there are a lot of servers. For me I stick with two hot dogs with sauerkraut, a small fries and small soft drink. There is seating outside and the tables are big enough to let others sit with you unless you aren't open to strangers doing that. When I am hitting concerts or the ball game I tend to stick to those sorts but that's just me LOL. I like to have any conversation be about where I am heading. The four items that I mentioned will run you about $15 but its well worth it. Nathan's has other wonderful items that I have sampled over the years but not too recently and among them are the chicken sandwich, the clam strips and shrimps and yes even the frogs legs. The last three are a tad pricier on the wallet but also quite yummy. Make sure you keep the exercise regimen up after this my friends but do pay them a visit. You will not be disappointed. read more

Is it the worlds greatest hot dog......meh, I think not. But it's good. Really wish they would have had onions for the dog but the deli mustard was just fine. Expensive, Novelty hot dogs are not what I expected when visiting this landmark Nathan's location. Hot dogs (as ridiculous as this may sound) are one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Having grown up across the Hudson, I always looked forward to getting a hot dog on the beach in the summer time. Unfortunately, when I arrived at this location there was chaos, and no organization whatsoever in terms of getting your food. There were implied lines at best and I ended up waiting over 30 minutes and I was only behind 5-6 people. Once I ordered two hot dogs, onion rings, and French fries (almost $20 total) I decided to get out of the sun and head back to the Brighton beach library. I asked the very nice woman who worked there (the only good part) if I could get something to put ketchup in... you know, because they handed me the fries in a paper container. She looked at me like i was crazy and handed me a plate. How the hell am I supposed to carry ketchup down the boardwalk on a plate? I don't feel like writing about this place anymore. It sucks. It has been years since I visited Coney Island this was an exceptional warm day in February(mid 60s) and I went on impulse. The Aquarium is still in the process of re-construction since Sandy in Late 2012! I did not go in because it was later in the afternoon and the place closes by 4:30pm. Just walk a bit by the beach and Boardwalk and of course, went to Nathan's. The line spilled into the street; a 45 min wait to order. A Plain Dog, Bacon & Cheese Dog, Fries & Coney Island Lager. Like Times Square, this Nathan's is an icon of New York City. If you have the time to spare, you absolutely must make the side trip here to eat a Famous hot dog, enjoy the fries (with the little wooden fork!) and drink an all natural lemonade, just like they've been doing here for 95 years. Today was the second time in my life I went to Nathans. It was better last time. Today was still alright but it wasn't close to good or amazing. I placed my order for 2 dogs. One with sauerkraut and one with grilled onions. I also got a lemonade. Total was like $11.05. They must have had a new hire class working today so I will give them a break. It was like they had a "give a foreigner a job" day or something. They could barely count change back which was kind of sad. First day jitters maybe. My girl brought out my 2 dogs plain and gave me my lemonade with no ice in it. I had to have her take my dogs and put the stuff I wanted on them. She was super nice though and smiled the whole time through. Hopefully all those new workers get the hang of it pretty quick or its going to be a long hot summer LOL. The dogs themselves...I love Nathans dogs and will buy them in the store over most brands. Today they were just alright. I could have grilled them better at home. Their mustard pump was on crack and seemed kind of watery too when it gushed out a grip of mustard. They were very messy dogs to eat. Tasty enough but worth the $11? Meh...debatable. It is an institution though and there is so much history at this stand, that alone warrants an extra star. 2 for the food, 1 for the ambiance and a decent enough dog. The food is good, like any old fast food joint. Good hefty portions. A little over priced if you ask me but I understand it's the "OriGinAL nAtHAnSz" so if you want to say you ate at the original Nathan's, go for it! I've had the crispy chicken sandwich 9/10. Very filli ng, savory, crispy buttermilk chicken, yummy sauce and pickles, I'm a no cheese girl, so I can't really comment on the cheese. I've had the crispy buffalo chicken sandwich 10/10 , the burgers are 7/10, pretty bland, not "juicy" enough. I think five guys have the best burgers; make your judgements based on that info. The fries are soft, savory, a mix of crunchy and soft fries, not too salty. This place is packed in the summer time so expect longer wait times. In the winter time you are out of there in less than 15 minutes. read more

Rich/poor, black/white, Jewish/Catholic and anything in between. Went back after many years to simply walk the boardwalk and grab a dog. The cheese dog was under 3 bucks and delicious. What I think is cool is that as tourists from Idaho line up and gladly wait to pay anything for a dog, but they still charge a reasonable price so poor and working class families can still afford to come to this Big Apple staple. My hat comes off to you Nathans. As American as the 4th of July and the hot dog eating competition. Also tried the lobster roll my dad would sometimes get as a kid. It was really good. If you've never been ,of course get a dog, but if you're with a group or a local branch out. Try the lobster roll, clams and other stuff they have to offer and share them. I normally don't write about chain restaurants, but this is an exception, since first off, it really isn't a chain, and secondly, you don't mess with the best hot dog restaurant in the business. I have eaten here now a couple of times, and it helps when you've got family that live only about 8 blocks from the restaurant. I've gone here both in the dead of winter, when you can still get a nice place to sit there, and still get a good meal, as well as in the height of summer, when the lines are long and people are literally filing out of Stillwell Avenue just to get their hands on one of those famous franks. It's a little pricey, but that's where they get the tourists. I just go because Nathan's makes a killer wiener, with the crinkle cut fries and a drink to boot. I usually get two hot dogs because one is definitely not going to make my day, and the fries and the drink can only last so far. But it is so worth it. The hot dog that snaps, and the fries that keep in all of its flavor that makes it taste so good all the way to the last one (plus the fork so that way you can pick them up when you first get them without burning your fingers). So all in all, I recommend going here, and taking a picture too, because it isn't all that often, unless you are like me, that you can say you ate the best hot dog in the world, and that's no exaggeration. ***P.S: If you are not the type to like 100% all beef hot dogs, this restaurant may not be for you. The line did not take long at all, I ordered the peppers & onion dog, my boyfriend got the crispy chicken sandwich and we split an order of fries with cheese and bacon. They also serve beer so I opted for a Corona to drink. We walked outside and grabbed a table. I really enjoyed the dog with ketchup and mustard; however, the peppers & onion were too sweet for me so I scraped them off. Perhaps I came in here with too high of an expectation, hoping that the dogs would be better than the ones I've had elsewhere, but I just wasn't impressed by Nathan's Famous hot dogs. The decor around this place was really neat, harkening back to its days in the early 20th century. There were also a ton of cashiers. It wasn't particularly busy when I arrived, but I'm sure it does on the weekend or later on in the evening on weekdays. Service was friendly and fast, but the price was pretty darn high for a small hot dog and soda. The medium soda was a pretty good size, but not worth $4. The hot dog was also tiny for $4.75. Perhaps the taste would make up for the size? Not really. Just wanted to try it for the experience, and won't again. I'll take my $1.50 Costco hot dogs/polish dogs that are both bigger and tastier over Nathan's tiny thing any day. read more

There were quite a few issues that we experienced while at Nathan's on Friday May 19th, 2023. When we arrived there was a small line so my daughter decided to order from the counter and my son and I went to the self serve area. She wanted a steak sandwich and we only wanted hotdogs. First thing I witnessed was the manager being rude to the staff members who were doing their jobs. My son and I received our food in a decent amount of time. My daughter on the other hand was waiting for pretty long time. At the 25 minute mark I went up and tried to get the attention of the manager, they ignored us, so I went to the other pick up area where I got my food and couldn't get anyone. Once the manager was finally bringing food up to give out I waived her down and said that they missed my daughters order, to which she blamed me for being on the wrong counter. I snapped back to her accusation informing her that my daughter had been here for half an hour to get her food. She then said "oh it's coming up right now" which it wasn't, she then came back a third time and took her ticket to make her food. There are so many better options on the boardwalk, the food wasn't good enough to make up for the incompetence. read more

Had to come to the original while visiting Coney Island. A bit pricey for a hot dog but I did appreciate the snappiness of the hotdog. That being said, I'm a corn dog fiend and the corn dog was on point. The breading was slightly sweet and crispy and I'd pick this over a hot dog any day. The french fries were perfect also! looks can be deceiving because they did look a bit on the dark side as if it was over cooked but those pieces turned out to be the best pieces. Nice thick cuts of potato with just the right amount of crisp and potato -ness to each bite. I read a lot of solid reviews for the seafood so pretty sure that's what gave this location such high reviews. We were on our way to dinner after walking the beach so we didn't want to get too full but needed to try this while we were here. Also, side note: I imagined Coney Island to be this run down place but its like any beach boardwalk you come across but with LOTS of roller coasters. read more

Summer isn't complete without a trip to Coney Island and Nathan's. I went on a Friday night hoping to get in some good pictures of Coney Island in summer. To my surprise, all the lights were off with the exception of the bright neon Nathan's sign, and the huge tower (idk what it's called). The line was pretty long. I got there around 1030pm. After a late night trot on the beach and a few cool photos, i was so excited to try Nathan's. It did not disappoint. It took about 10 mins to order. Social distancing was almost non existent. There were people with and without mask on. They have a lot of outdoor seating, and the bathrooms were open at 1030pm. The tables outdoors gave some space to eat and feel comfortable. Everything was really good. The bacon ranch cheese fries were changed to have a jalapeño ranch, which i didn't mind because i couldn't taste the jalapeño anyway. Everything was fresh, which is all you can ask for late night at Coney Island. I was a happy camper after, and i fixed my craving for Nathan's. This was really one of the highlights of my covid summer. So, if you can. Take a trip. The ocean air, and a hot dog from Nathan's will do the trick. read more
