Glad to say I didn't have the same experience yesterday morning after running the NYRR Brooklyn Half Marathon with 30,000 others along with their friends and family cheering them on. As expected, everywhere along the boardwalk to eat and grab a beer on this sunny warm morning was packed. My group just wanted a spot to eat, have a cold beer, and celebrate a bit. Tom's seating was full in front, but inside had plenty of spacious seating. We lucked out as a marathon VIP event had just ended so we snagged a table once they piled out. A few Modelos, Coney Island pilsners, chicken fingers and fries put us hangry runners into a satisfied mood. We found the place clean enough, and the food was ok. Pricing as expected. Nothing Michelin Star here, but its basic comfort food on a boardwalk. The chicken fingers had a nice crispy batter, were juicy, and a large portion which I wolfed down. Had to put all those calories back in that I burned off! LOL! Also, our server Jasmine was terrific! I've loved Tom's in Prospect Heights for over a decade. It's a classic diner with heart. A local business for locals. A legendary brunch spot that I'll always love. So when we were out on the boardwalk and in need of some food, Tom's seemed like a good bet. And I'm not sure what the disconnect is between this Tom's and the Tom's I love is, but there is something off. Everything here is just OK. Fine, if all you want is something to fill your stomach. The burger I got (bacon and bleu cheese) was fine, although that was not bleu cheese. The chili dog we got? Fine, I guess. (The buns were bad, however.) The chicken fingers and fries? Fine, although you need some other dipping sauces besides ketchup. The service? Fine, I guess. They didn't seem to care if we were there or not. I left this place a 1-star review because my experience was honestly terrible. The customer service was disrespectful from the moment I walked in. Some of the staff started making jokes about me because they thought I was missing a strap on my Crocs, even though I actually had it. It felt immature and unprofessional, especially since customers shouldn't be made fun of for how they look. On top of that, they kept making comments because I wasn't wearing a T-shirt, which made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Instead of treating customers with respect, the employees seemed more interested in judging people.The food wasn't worth the price either. The rooftop is a great spot for a burger and a beer along with beautiful views of the ocean and Coney Island.

Seating options are limited on Coney Island's Boardwalk. This establishment has seating areas outdoors, indoors, PLUS there's a rooftop dining area. I very much enjoyed my dining experience with the fam. They hooked me up with a red, white and blue slushy drink with double rum. Very very effective. Where do I start? It's lunch time, Memorial Day. There's a twenty minute line for a table and at least half a dozen EMPTY tables. Take out has a short line but you're still gonna wait HALF AN HOUR for an off-brand mystery meat hotdog. It was not good. I thought all these guys had the same supplier. Nope. The burgers do not come with lettuce tomato onions pickles irs just meat and bread and there are no vegan or vegetarian friendly dishes. Basically it's a hamburger stand. Only ordered a drink at the window assuming, like anywhere else, I could take my drink and sit at the restaurants tables. I walked over to the table and an unprofessional security guard who was wearing a dirty security vest approached me and yelled at me that "no outside drinks!" When I explained that I purchased my drink from them, he proceeded to be rude and say that only dine-in customers can sit at the tables (this is not posted anywhere). After making him aware that I didn't know and that there wasn't signage, the security guard told me "well now you know, you have to leave" as if I didn't just spend $10 on a watered down drink. After finishing my drink, I headed to Salt and Sizzle down the boardwalk and ordered a (much cheaper) drink and sat in their beer garden. I would recommend if you're looking for drinks, to go to Salt and Sizzle instead for better service, atmosphere, and cleaner people. I could give this place 0 stars if I could. read more

Great view of Coney Island boardwalk. My complaint was my broccoli cheddar omelette had too much of the stem not florets and it was was difficult to cut and chew. Flavor was good though. Choices were limited in pancakes to plain or their combined pancakes. If you had allergies or dislikes plain was the option. Their flavored butters though were delicious. read more

I've been reading about the breakfast at toms (mostly about the Prospect Heights location) for a very long time. It's always listed in Time Out NY as one of the 10 best. The menu is the same at both. Finally got a beautiful morning. Very nice menu of all your standard breakfast choices and fancy pancakes! Got the mango blueberry and walnut ones. Very good! Nice side of bacon and delicious coffee Great service and of course the best location esp when you can eat outside. Table service is notoriously slow as the staff appears high school students or too apathetic to care when distributing our utensils in piece mail- one setting at a time. I ordered the Toms wrap which was grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato and chipotle sauce. Nothing special but their menu isn't the greatest. The chicken was dry, I had to drench the wrap in ranch for flavor. The fries were soggy and old and I ordered them WELL DONE.. I ordered a Miami Vice for $10. It was watered down and sooo much sugar I could barely drink it. The waiters on the rooftop are all young 16 year old looking kids who take your order and then sit behind the bar, text on their phones, and play garbage music from their phones that play through the speakers on the rooftop. Couldn't even get their attention for some napkins.. Long story short just skip this spot all together. It's not worth the $. Go to Nathan's next door and get a 5 dollar hotdog or hamburger grilled right in front of ya. We were so cold, fighting against the wind on the Boardwalk -- exhausted, freezing, ready to give up. Even the sun was had given up on us, hiding behind the morning fog. When lo and behold, we see a sign, a beacon of light shining through the morning dreariness. Tom's Coney Island. Most of the other shops were still closed at this hour and the Boardwalk itself was mostly void of people, but walking into this establishment made you feel perfectly at home. It became clear why there were no people on the Boardwalk, they were all here! Tom's has a clean, classic diner feel, with the wall of windows giving it a bright and airy atmosphere. A lot of diners tend to feel a little cluttered and claustrophobic -- not Tom's though. lol. I really loved their red chairs and stools, the pop of color made everything seem a little more lively. Service was friendly and quick. We were seated immediately and given our menus. After ordering tea and hot chocolate to warm us up, we started perusing the menu. What amazing choices they had -- especially their pancakes. There were so many different flavors: mango walnut, sweet potato, harvest; the choices were crazy. Eventually, we decided to share a mango walnut as we weren't too hungry. Wow. They were so filling! Big and fluffy, these were some of the tastiest pancakes I've had. With the perfect ratio of mango to walnut to batter, it wasn't over-whelming. The syrup and butters they had were great too. I was pleasantly surprised by this little dive on the Coney Island boardwalk. It was my first time there with a few friends and we were looking for a place to eat. Wahlburgers was packed so we chose this as option #2. The menu was simple But the portions were huge. I didn't even finish my food. There were numerous options for burgers and I got the blue cheese and bacon one. It was amazing and really filling. I also got sweet potato fries as my side But they also had some of the best onion rings I have ever had. They have both an indoor restaurant, patio seating and a rooftop seating that looks like It turns into a dance club late at night. they also Serve alcohol and i got beer which they have bottled and on draft. The service was good and we were checked on pretty frequently. Keep in mind that this review is for a somewhat off-season rainy day. Generous portions at good prices for NYC. We arrived at Coney Island around 10:15am and wandered the board walk looking for a place to have breakfast. Tom's Coney Island appear to be opened and we saw a kid and his family already indulging in a milkshake. Since it just opened, there were only a handful of patrons. We were greeted and handed menus and waters. Apparently they are famous for their pancakes and home whipped butter that has different flavors so my sister got the pancake combo breakfast while I went with the mushroom omelet with potatoes. Nat's meal came with two huge pancakes, two fried eggs and 4 halves of sausage - maple syrup and whipped butter that was flavored cinnamon and one was raspberry. My omelet was a decent size with sliced mushrooms scattered throughout, the potatoes were on the mushy side though. Nat enjoyed the pancakes, I had a taste and thought they were basic. The butter they offered was a nice touch for flavor but I wasn't crazy for it. My omelet was good but yet again, basic...not much flavor and I wish the potatoes were more on the crunchy side but we didn't expect much here. This wasn't a great experience. The one nice thing is that they have more on their menu than hot dogs and burgers. Their greek salad is pretty good, the burgers not so much. The service is mediocre and very slow. I spilled my beer because I squeezed the flexible plastic cup a bit too much and the wait staff didn't move. I had to ask for napkins so I could clean it up. Lastly, although it doesn't influence the quality of the food or directly impact the service, their ketchup is in mustard containers! So it's likely you'll have to wait until you catch a server's attention only for them to tell you to try the yellow container. read more

Went to Coney Island this am for a Klondike event and saw that there was a Toms. Being a former patron of Toms on Washington, I was intrigued and went in. Upon asking if there was an affiliation with Toms on Washington It was immediately confirmed. The glee I felt made me warm all over on such a cold day. I immediately ordered some tea, then decided to stay for breakfast! Everything was delivered hot n fresh and serving was superb on time and extremely friendly. I even got to try their lime rickey. So the weather is warming up again and once again, I make my annual late spring/all summer long pilgrimage to the beach. Tom's of Coney Island is located right on the boardwalk. This place gets insanely crowded especially during the summer months, with drunk people spilling out all over the 2 mile stretch of boardwalk shouting at each other in Brooklynese. I came here again and decided to order breakfast. I had the Eggs Benedict. I have to say, this time I came was much better than last time. They must have hired a new cook, because the two eggs were nicely poached with the yolks still warm and runny inside. I also liked the potatoes that this dish came with. I also ordered a side of two scrambled eggs, because again I'm an egg addict :) Since it was so unusually warm (80 degrees in April!) I once again wanted to indulge in something tropical. I ordered a Piña Colada. About 3 minutes late a giant glass was delivered to my table. However, it wasn't really the best Piña Colada I've had. I was impressed how fast we got served. And when you come with super active toddler you need your food on the table STAT- they delivered. All pancakes (huge pancakes) come with regular and flavored butters on the side (strawberry and cinnamon apple), maple syrup. Although food was good, bacon should be crispier and home fries need more flavor. Servers here are young and energetic which is great. They were on top of their game when we came. Decor focuses here on Coney Island of course since this location is on the boardwalk right in front of the beach. They have pictures of how boardwalk and buildings here looked like years ago.
