Use any other car rental service possible. They didn't provide a spare tire in their car! We got a flat tire in the middle of the mountains and had no cell service. Our only option was to get a police officer to radio in a tow for us. National would not pay for the tow because we didn't call them first. We couldn't call them because we were not in service. If we had a spare tire we could have driven the additional 15 minutes to get to cell service and saved everyone the hassle. It is honestly hard to believe that a company could be so cheap to not put a spare in. This company should not be in business. read more

Not the best experience. I reserved a car from National today and the agent didn't have the car reserved available for me. I have a feeling since I was taking car one way out of Boise and dropping off in Spokane that the selection was selectively limited. Kiosha (agent) not willing to work with me even though they had a plethora of full size SUV only allowed me the options of: Van, VW small SUV, or jeep wrangler. These cars did not fit our needs due to 4 passengers and luggage. Manager Miles rectified with friendly service with a Dodge Durango. Not the type of service I would expect from National and being an executive member. Felt like they only wanted to let certain cars out of inventory on one ways. Manager made up from what was going to be a one star review and I believe his name was Miles. Recommend Boise National update there process and let executive members select car and then check out. Avoids the hassle and confusion. read more

Service was impeccable! Easy to find at the airport as well. Emerald executive member here and they did not have the option to pick your own vehicle but they did give us 3 options. Exiting was very easy and you did not have to go through an agent gate (you just get in and go). read more

If you are an Emerald member, do yourself a service and use a different car rental company in Boise, because their local office is not participating. I called the customer service line, where a lady called Ada listened to my complaint, and bluntly told me that she cannot do anything to improve my customer experience (customer that now is stuck with a car I didn't want, yet I am paying for it). As smooth as it could be. There was a separate line for the National Emerald Elite Members but that didn't matter because there was no one in line waiting. Someone was quick to attend to me, pulling up my reservation and giving me a few choices to choose from. I was in and out within a few minutes. Couldn't been smoother. One downside is that there is no National Emerald Aisle Access where you can browse and choose your car from. The representative grabbed a bunch of keys and told me my options, ranging from a Nissan Altima to a BMW 2 series sedan. Car return is very easy too. There is a Chevron right in front of the airport entrance so you don't have to worry about refueling charges. Pull up to the return lot for National Car rental return and someone will be there to check the status of the car (mileage, gas, etc) and ring you up from the return lot. read more

Perspective from an Executive Member. I travel often for work and I always use National/Enterprise as my exclusive auto rental provider. I've had great experience using this brand all over the country. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about this location. I rented my usual full size car when arriving in Boise in Feb 2018. Given the inclement weather, I asked for an upgrade to an SUV or all-wheel drive vehicle only to be told that they cannot accommodate me because they don't have Emerald Aisle service and that I would have to pay for it if I wanted an upgrade. This has never been an issue in other regional airports. I get that upgrades aren't automatic normally but I have over 60+ days of rentals in 2017. I'm not one to cause a scene unless truly warranted so I said fine and went about my day. However, this has left me with a negative light about National @ Boise airport. Especially given it was a slow business week in town and there was a lot of available SUVs in the lot. It might have been an unlucky draw of a bad employee and this is truly a first world problem. But I did want to share this review as I hope National continues to uphold customer training for both their frequent and leisure travelers. read more

**Attention business travelers** Avoid National/Alamo/Enterprise at this location at all costs!!!!!! Prior to visiting this location I had a flawlessly positive experience with national at numerous airports across the country. This location trashed that perfect experience with a fury. I had reserved a midsize car, expecting that they would have a Ford Fusion available or be flexible to put me in something that would accommodate my Skis. Those expectations of flexibility were not met when they demanded that I pay a 50 percent upgrade charge - something that is not reimbursable by my company! I ended up calling National customer service who made the location waive the fee after I complained. (Thank You) While I will rent from national again I will be renting from the competition whenever I return to Boise - unless I hear that National has fired this blood sucking franchise. **Edit: I forgot to mention that in addition to the poor experience at the counter, the vehicle was also not clean. There was soda / coffee residue in the center console of a spilled drink and there were food bits and dirt all over. The vehicle also smelled of tobacco and fragrance. My colleague was complaining about this location last week... they didn't want to give a regular rate on a one-way rental (something we do regularly). Still I gave the location the benefit of the doubt, until I arrived today. The counter agent was practically surly, like she was doing me a huge favor renting me a car, never mind that I'm an Emerald Executive Elite. I didn't really feel like they wanted to give me a car. The kicker, however was when they asked me to sign the slip confirming "no damage" to the car WHILE I was still at the counter. I hadn't even seen the car yet. She insisted she couldn't give me the car keys until I signed the slip and suggested I could walk out and then come back to get the keys. Have i mentioned that the rental car lot is about a block away? We finally agreed that someone could meet me out in the lot to retrieve the signed slip. That employee greeted me under the impression that there was some kind of problem... no problem, just a refusal on my part to sign away potential damages before reviewing a car. Next time I'll rent from Hertz or Avis... nicer cars and nicer agents. And now, I'm editing to add my return experience. I returned at 5:55 am to catch a 6:45 am flight. No one was out in the lot so I packed up my GPS and recorded my mileage and came in. The counter refused to process my return, insisting that they had to go OUT to the lot and that I must have missed the gentleman in the lot. No process = no receipt. This annoyed me greatly. They insisted that they couldn't process in a car until they had checked it for damage or problems. Completely different than ANY other National location (and I've rented from well over 100 of them in the decade I've been elite with them) but they are a franchise. Needless to say, I will be complaining to our corporate rep about this outlier station. read more

I travel to Boise at least once a month, if not more. The fact that you have to hit the counter instead of walking out and popping into a car is kind of annoying, but not too terribly out of the way (bottom of the escalators on the way outside) Staff has been friendly and helpful to me on each occasion. Once i had to grab the car instead of a co-worker due to a delayed flight, they were able to switch the reservation etc. with no problem. The signing of the no damage slip is only if you have not reserved on line or ahead of time, and it was indicated to me that i could circle any issues and tell the staff at the booth before i left. Definitely weird, but it all worked out for me, so far. Drop off has always been a breeze, but i head out around noon and always bring the workers a treat! (i have to stop at taco time for the hubby and that location always gives me cinnamon chips - so i leave it for the little fellas that have to be out in the cold collecting my car, it's the least i can do!) It is a small operation at a small airport, and i think they do ok in my book! read more

This is the only place I generally consider getting a car from if I need one in my travels and that is because they are consistent and reliable. Their phone app is a major pain in the ass and resorts to frequent nagging, but that is not the fault of the locations. Cars are always in good shape, always cleaned-up and ready to go and the staff friendliness is exemplary. Are they more? Sure, but in the world of vehicle rental, you get what you pay for and the question isn't really how many more dollars they are but rather what's your time worth, since they waste so much less of it and take pains to make the experience easy and convenient, with this location being a prime example. I had the misfortune of dealing with Vicki while attempting to return and pay for my car rental on Oct 21st. She repeatedly told me to "shut up" while I was trying to explain to her why I needed to pay for the car with a different credit card then the one they had previously authorized. She was one of the rudest and most unhappy people I have ever come in contact with. I have a lot of friends and family that travel to Boise through out the year and I will make sure I spread the word to them on how awful the customer service is. I rented a car for 33 days and my flight from Canada got delayed so instead of getting to Chile in the morning, We got there at night time the same day. I approach the desk at the airport in Santiago de Chile and they look at eachother like they had rented my reserved car already. Tehy got me a car similar to what I had reserved but in really bad conditions, dirty, very little gas on it, scratched everywhere on the outside, the passenger door did not have the button to open the window, only a hole. the rubber seal around the trunk was all loose, so when I tried to close it I had to literally take the seal and push it inside the trunk before closing it. We went to talk to the people for a change of car and they promised us they were gonna call us the same day to go and get another car and they never did (Emerson Rosales was the contact for the call). It was my worst experience ever!!!!! never again with this car company or Alamo. We had to pay way too much for renting this car. Stay away from them!!!! read more

This location gets no stars! I only chose 1 so that this will post. The manager is completely disrespectful! DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION! CHOOSE ANOTHER RENTAL CAR COMPANY! I almost lost my salvation on the manager, she couldn't even look me in the eye when I came to the counter to check out. I spoke with her the day before about removing my insurance that I did not need because my company covers it and she still said that because they are a private company they operate differently. Good service, there was only one other person in the queue, and she was behind us. A three minute walk to the car followed by a ten minute drive to downtown, makes Boise a big winner. Even Main St is called "Main St", so navigation is too easy. read more

I called national's headquarters and they sid that tjhis National Rental Car location can do what ever they want whenever they want. They do not have to adhere to the standard National pricing or car selection prortocals in the rest of the ocuntry. Thier pricing was $200 more than Hertz - now that is amazing! I booked a full size car and was offered a Chevrolet Cruz or Malibu. They said this was an upgrade. My car I was provided had not been washed with dirty windows and floors. The experience I had renting with National at this airport wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be after reading the other reviews. There was no separate Emerald Club line that National claims all their Emerald Club Counter Service locations have, but there was only one customer ahead if me anyways so I didn't really have to wait that long. Since I am an Emerald Executive Elite Club member, all of the rental agreements were already printed out and waiting for me at the counter. All I had to do was sign the papers and take the car keys. I reserved a full size vehicle, which is the largest vehicle you are able to reserve at this location - unfortunately no premium or luxury vehicles. I was given a pretty wide selection of cars and ended up taking the best which was the Chevy Malibu. I really wish they would have the Emerald and Executive Aisles here or offer better vehicles because it's been quite a while since I've had to drive a car with a four cylinder in it, however It did get pretty decent gas mileage. As I was a walking through the parking lot where all the rentals companies keep their cars, I noticed that Hertz had a few luxury cars parked in their aisles. So if your looking for something better than a full size, rent from them. Otherwise, National is adequate with your rental car needs. They have also solved the issue with signing the damage waiver before you drive off with your car. read more
