This is my third time renting a car from AVIS, and every single time I have received outstanding service. When I returned my car at Boise Airport, I wasn't familiar with the roads and ran into some difficulties. Fortunately, John Sanders went above and beyond to help me. He is truly an amazing person. I'm a frequent traveler and rent from Avis several times a month. After traveling all day, I had to wait in line for my car and was given a car with a dirty cracked windshield. Rather than waiting in line again, luckily, I took pictures of the cracked windshield. Sure enough, I received a charge for $600 for damage. I submitted photos with location and time stamps and explanation and still needed to call customer service for removal of the charge. Very poor customer service at this location. read more

Just want to these folks are Amazing!! I walked up to the counter received a free upgrade to a Jeep Rubicon from a standard car. Signed everything and was on the road in minutes. Great staff and smooth pickup. Also want to say the drop off was a breeze again the staff was amazing checking in the jeep and helped through the construction to the terminal. Do not use Avis Rant a Car in Boise, ID. Rented a vehicle for 3 days. Had to extend the rental one day because the freeway was closed due to bad weather. They charged almost 4 times the rate I paid to rent the vehicle for 3 days. Unethical business practices by taking advantage of customers by who encounter emergencies. I had a rental car paid for by my mother for a one way dropping off at another location when I landed to go be with my stepdad that just got put on hospice. They wouldn't rent it to me because I didn't have a credit card and because I didn't have a return flight. I'm literally dropping the car off at another location!!! Why the hell do I need a return flight when the car isn't being returned to that airport? That makes no fucking sense!! Horrible service! The people at the counter on 7/9/2025 around 930-10 am were absolutely HORRIBLE! Rude! When asked to speak to supervisor they were conveniently on a conference call!!!!!! BULLSHIT! No one had the balls to come out and explain to me why I needed to have a scheduled return flight for a rental car I'm returning at a different location in a different town. Thankfully there's TURO! We have prepaid for our Avis rent a car. We were supposed to get a Toyota, but just like every time at Avis, the car you're supposed to get is never available. It was late at night and they told us they had one car waiting for us. The car was clearly never cleaned, as you can see below, and in fact it was filthy. In addition to that, they were cracks on the windows. We told Avis about this and they said they would note it in their system. However when we went to return the car Avis said there was nothing they could do. Of course, they could have and should have given us the credit on the car we were entitled to. Instead they tried to pawn us off to their customer service center with the hopes that we would not call to get the credit we were entitled to. To add insult to injury, Avis not only charges what we had prepaid, but they charge just extra. Have rented here multiple times and was usually fine until last time. Was charged for a "bio hazard" in the car. When I called customer service it was a time consuming hassle to get the charge removed. I didn't do anything to the car and they couldn't tell me exactly what the problem was. My husband was greeted by Cynthia Davis, my husband's card declined the first 2 times due to having a fraud alert on it because of us traveling. Ms.Davis became very hostile and was not understanding the situation. It seems as if she had a bad day, but none the less, She then called the manager and he told her to run his card once again. The payment was accepted, after the payment went through Cynthia decided to say she was not going to rent the car to us. After a while she changed her mind and finally said she was going to rent the car out to us. My husband filled out the rental agreement and accepted the terms. After everything goes through My husband then recieved his SIGNED CONTRACT AND KEYS. Ms. Davis proceeds to continue the conversation about the conflict regarding my husbands debit card and explain why she did not want to continue running it. My husband told her the payment went through and he doesn't want to keep talking about it anymore. Once all the paperwork was finished he asked her for her name and the managers name so he can call and speak with him tomorrow regarding her unprofessional behavior in the work place. This must have upset Cynthia Davis because she then proceedes to say she no longer feels comfortable renting the car to him! After the paperwork was DONE , after the keys was already handed over . Cynthia then attempts to snatch my husband's signed contract and keys from his bare hands!!!! Let's just be honest , Cynthia had no reason to not rent the car besides her own personal reasons which has nothing to do with her job. She "no longer felt comfortable to rent the car" because she was racially profiling a black man the entire time. She no longer felt comfortable because he asked for her name to report her behavior to her supervisor. I would have never thought after losing my best friend in Boise that I would land and have to deal with such disrespect!!! Cynthias behavior is disgusting and a poor representation of this company... Rented a car per Avis guidelines (credit card, drivers license, insurance, USAA membership) prepaid for the weekend. When we arrived we were denied service based on Martha not knowing her own policies. Tried to call back and talk to a manager, going on 15 minute wait and anticipating staying on for hours longer.... It is sad when customers know more about the policies and procedures of Avis than the ones that are denying service to paying customers. Shame on you Avis!!!!! read more

During our last rental from Avis, our child sat on a muffin as we were trying to get to the airport. I had now way or time to find a car vacuum before returning the car. I anticipated there may be an additional cleaning fee, but when I received a bill for an additional $450 I was flabbergasted! I called and tried to refute the charge, and even asked to speak to an upper level manager but was told There was no one to talk to because they had pictures. I asked for the pictures to be emailed and of course I got pictures of muffin crumbs in a back seat. I will NEVER rent from AVIS again. They are rip off artists. read more

had a reservation for 1 PM to pick up a car that was ordered online and in advance. when I arrived, that was simply told they don't have any cars available. They offered Noah assistance or guidance and simply treated it as it was"my problem". I would recommend the company figuring out a way to manage their inventory so they do not appear deceptive to people who are traveling. I have been traveling for 30 years and this is the first time this is ever happened to me. This is a massive inconvenience to anyone who has to go through it. My son was denied renting a car that we prepaid for because Martha does not know their own policies. We are USAA members and we spoke with Avis and they informed us that since we are he can rent a car at 19. Martha said she has never heard of that and its not true and would not give him the car. We then called customer service and were informed that she is wrong but they cannot call her and tell her that, we have to wait until tomorrow to call the manager. Now we have to pay for an Uber and they said they cannot refund us the prepaid total right now. Martha was very rude and should not be working in customer service, especially when she does not know her own policies. Wish I could give 0 Stars. While the company was still trying to charge me for a windshield replacement, I realized that the invoice showed that I allegedly drove hundreds of more miles than I actually drove - when I mentioned this to customer service they immediately canceled the charges for the windshield as it seems that they did rent out the car to another customer or someone else drove it after I dropped it off. My husband and I took a trip to Boise and rented a vehicle from Avis. The employee said we would need to upgrade the vehicle because it was going to snow all weekend and we would need a four wheel drive. It did not snow (and we felt very mislead by the employee) When we turned the rental in, Dani (Danielle) would not help us, we asked for her manager, who came out shaking her head and saying no, prior to even listening to us. When traveling on the work dime I am limited to the lowest cost and smallest car (unless I can justify otherwise in writing before my trip). As a result I have had some not so good rental car experiences. This trip I found myself with Avis in a Hundai Accent. My flight didn't land in Boise till almost midnight and by the time I retrieved my bag it was almost 1am. Luckily they are open until at least 1am. The lady at the desk was nice and took all my necessary information. I signed my papers got my keys and was on my way. The car was just what I needed, clean, small and economical, with the ability to get me from point A to point B and then some. Now I am not tall and had I been taller this car would have been uncomfortable. The car was even equipt with XM radio. I am a lifetime subscriber and love certain channels so it was nice to have that option. Returning it was just as easy. We rented a Ford Explorer at the Boise Airport location in May of 2018. After driving nearly four hours on the highway (with 80mph speed limits) we stopped to refuel and noticed the tires of our Ford Explorer were so bald they were nearly worn completely through to the steel cords. We didn't notice this when picking up the vehicle as it was in the evening and we were planning for an early trip the next morning. Actually the vehicle was very dirty, the 3rd row seat was broken, and I had taken a few photos of the exterior prior to us leaving. I typically don't do that, but this vehicle had over 33k miles on it and had been driven pretty hard. The tires on this vehicle were so bad that they put my family at a severe risk. Had we had a blowout on the highway, it would have been catastrophic for me and my children who were in the vehicle. (Photos of the tires after we noticed them are posted below). I can't believe this vehicle was sent out in this condition. Not only this, after calling the Avis line when we noticed the state of the vehicle we were told to just drive to the nearest Avis location to get a replacement. Again we had to get back on the highway to drive to the nearest city with an Avis location. Once we got there, we found they didn't have vehicles available. Again, we were told to drive to the nearest airport location. On the highway. This took an extra two hours just to deal with this situation, on top of our 14hr planned drive. This was another customer service failure as after I thought about it, I'm not sure why the agent didn't look in the system to help me find the nearest location that actually had vehicles available. I was left to deal with this on my own in a state I wasn't familiar with. The rental agents at the Utah locations were very pleasant and couldn't believe the state of the tires either. We were told to call Avis Corporate once we were done with the rental to discuss a refund of our rental charges. We did that, along with sharing photos of the condition of the vehicle. After multiple emails back and forth and speaking with a supervisor, I was told that all "corporate" would offer me was approximately 20% off of my rental charges. They did not seem to think this issue, and the risk they put my family in, was a big deal at all. I will be sharing this story because I feel that other consumers need to be aware of the lack of concern for Avis customer safety as well as their poor customer service habits. My daughter left her AirPods in the car and an hour later we drove back there to try to get them. They ran around and helped us look for them. They found them! And we got them back. We rented a vehicle here the other day and I am not impressed. The customer service at the counter was ok except for the fact that the whole transaction felt like a sales pitch, due to the constant attempts to upsell me. The rental parking lot was a mess and we had to walk quite a distance to get to the vehicle I rented. Most rental agencies will pull the vehicle up to you and load your bags. I opted for their luxury package which got me a Cadillac. I was not so impressed with the vehicle and don't believe it should be listed under the lizard trim. The biggest issue was the condition of the vehicle. This rental agency made no attempts to clean this car because it was rented to me. Their was dirt and debris all over the outside of the vehicle. Their was garbage in the door pocket. And their was standing dust all over the dashboard and inside of the vehicle. This was completely unacceptable and I will not be renting through Avis anymore. So if you are looking to rent a vehicle, I would pass on this rental agency. read more

The agent at the desk guessed correctly the purpose of our trip and we appreciated the fact that he was looking at us as actual people, not anonymous customer. The agent at drop-off noticed that there was something wrong with our bill, and before even handing it to me she fixed the problem and printed a corrected receipt for me. We rented a mini van for our Boise Idaho visit. We rented it months ago. We showed up at the correct time and they did not have any minivans. They put us in a Tahoe but we didn't fit so we went back to the desk and said we either need the mini van, that we reserved or a larger SUV. They finally found a mini van... however..... it was filthy!!! Obviously NOT cleaned AT ALL!! We went and bought wipes and wiped out all the dirt, filth and muck that was in the van. We did fit much better with all the luggage but jeezzz don't give customers a car that you haven't wiped down. YUCK!!!! The only reason I gave 2 stars was because of the nice employee in the lot, McKennen. He was so professional. read more

BEWARE! I don't normally rent cars, but this experience has turned me off to Avis! First of all, I arrived after midnight after a late night flight. Got to the counter and was greeted by the agent. In addition to filling out the regular paperwork, he asked if I would like to pre-authorize a charge to fill up the vehicle when I return it. He said that many renters appreciate the convenience, and the price was only $3.** a gallon! I thought it sounded like a good idea, so I opted in. I then walked to the lot to find my van. IT WAS unbelievably FILTHY!!! But since I was sleepy, and wanted to get to my hotel, I just took it. During my rental, I filled up a couple of times and returned the van with 3/4 tank remaining. Okay, so I figure I will have to pay $20 or so to top off the tank. But the return agent said that I should have used up MORE GAS since I PREPAID for a theoretical FULL TANK of gas. I was charged $50 for 4 or 5 gallons of fuel. WHAT! Why did the agent quote the "per gallon" price when Avis charges you for the FULL TANK whether (or not) you use it? After a bit of complaining to corporate, they did refund me for the charge, but did not offer an apology. I just want you to be aware of this dishonest sales tactic! read more

I normally do not rent from Avis rental car company, but for this trip to Boise, Idaho, it was probably the best price I found online. So I booked it. Who knew? I found this pretty good deal online on priceline.com, so I pressed that commit button and off I went. Upon arrival at Boise regional airport, I found that it was very easy to get to the car rental counter from the gates. It was very awesome to have that convenience factored in, versus having to wait for an airport shuttle and take a lot more time than necessary. I found out that all of the car rental companies had their rental parking lot in a consolidated parking lot next to the airport terminal, which is a great help, so you can walk to your rental car after checking out and park and walk to the airport terminal when you are returning. For the most part though, the check in and out process was seamless and flawless. The service here was very good and professional, although the average and often it is expected anyway. It would be nice to have had service with a smile, but I guess at any given day you just have to roll with the punches, I guess. The overall experience here at Avis rental car company at Boise regional airport was as uneventful and average as you can possibly get. The check in process took about 10 minutes and I was off to grab my rental car from the counter. I did not have to give my car rental agreement to an agent prior to leaving the premises, like many cities. That was a good thing. This Avis rental car company location is located pretty much stuck on to the Boise regional airport. Lake most car rental companies, Avis Rent-A-Car will ask you for your drivers license and credit card. That's pretty much the industry practice. You should do your due diligence and secure the best rental car rates as possible online, so you get the best price for your rental. On this rental though, I elected to purchase the basic car rental insurance, which is priced at about $15 per day. This is considered cheap, because other car rental companies charge upwards of $20-$25 per day on basic liability coverage for the vehicle. If you have personal liability insurance with your credit card company or your own car insurance, you may want to check with them to see if they cover rental cars too. The car I got to drive during this trip was an economy car, which came in the way of a Hyundai Accent. The car is self was pretty good, clean on the inside, but it was dirty on the front of the car. I did not ask them if they washed it but it was clear that the previous renter drove off road or something, which meant there were splashes on the front of the car. And of course, the car itself drove fine and then not have any problems with it. I felt like this rental car experience was nice and good, albeit average and spot on. No problems whatsoever, so I would recommend Avis rental car company whenever you decide to travel to Boise ID to do business or pleasure. For me, it was a little of both really. Prices for rentals here can be cut throat, but I managed to get something within $20/day, so that's usually my reference point. Obviously, cheaper the better, but low $20/day is a good winner. Happy with my purchase. I must have logged at least 800 miles on this car. It was nice to drive around Boise and down the I-80 corridor down to Ogden, UT for a day down there. 4.0 stars. Being Avis Preferred is one of my favorite things about renting a car. I highly suggest that you get in on that! Special lane for picking up your vehicle. One signature and you're on you way. It literally took me less that 3 minutes at the counter. Normally there is a Preffered section near the front in whatever rental car facility, but this one in Boise still had me hiking down rows to find my car in its space. Ones found however, no gates bar you from getting on your way. The cars to choose from are always in good repair and ready to go. This location was no exception. Easy return, no stress. read more

I am an Avis Preferred member, renting cars almost weekly for the last 5 years. I needed a car on 7/17, and since they did not have an Avis car, they gave me a Budget. They never sent to me the receipt for my expenses (I have the charge in my CC). I called everywhere and nobody has an answer on where my receipt is! The rental car was great, but they totally screwed up what I had to pay and charged me for gas, even though I filled it up myself. When I checked it in they marked it as full.. That was just over 2 weeks. When I called them to figure out what happened the gentlemen I talked to wasn't much help and said that they charged me for gas, he didn't have great customer service. This totally sucks because I wanted to have a good experience and give them a good review but now I have to say I will not be renting from them again, and I strongly advise anyone else to consider a better place to Rent-A-Car who can be honest and trustworthy in honoring you as a customer. read more

We made an online reservation for a truck. We walked right up to the desk and the gentleman greeted us and found our reservation very quickly. Paperwork was explained quickly and thoroughly. Our truck was sitting just outside the door in the assigned spot. The truck was clean and just as expected. The day we dropped it off the gentlemen greeted us as we pulled up, inspected the truck and handed us a receipt in just a few minutes. Hands down one of the quickest and easiest car rental experiences I've had. I recommend making a reservation online and using coupon codes. We typically rent with enterprise but because of the coupon codes we couldn't beat the price! read more

Note...this rating is specific to the BOI airport location. Hands down the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I have been with Microsoft for 17 years and have been a 'preferred plus' Avis customer because of my heavy travel schedule for 17 years. You would think that proves a loyal customer. Apparently this location could careless. They have over charged me $2,300 dollars and claim I had a vehicle for 3 weeks AFTER I returned the car...noting the vehicle was parked in a different lot and they couldn't find it. WTF!!! How about minus 5 stars? My experience was a joke. My car broke after 2 days. Two days before Christmas, no less. 6 hours later and 6 phone calls with a total run around and I still have the broken car in the driveway. Avis said call Roadside assistance. Roadside Assistance said it would be 45 minutes. After 30 minutes, I was texted it would be an additional 55 minutes. After 2 hours, was told the battery was shot and the car would have to be towed. But, they don't do that, call Avis. Called Avis in the Boise airport where I picked up the car. After a heated discussion, he said call Roadside Assistance. I called RS Assistance for the 3rd time and they said I would have to call back and create a new ticket. My whole day is shot. It's 2 days before Christmas with a ton of errands to do and not only does the car break (that happens) but the run around and effort I've had to handle today when this is the fault of the rental car company and the way they do business is a joke - I will definitely be canceling my new business account. My advise? Pay a bit more for Hertz or Enterprise where you don't have to put up with a messed up company who does not seem to care about their customers. I've been ready to go since 9AM and it's now 3:00 and the car has not been towed and I don't have a replacement. They said they couldn't bring me another car because then I would have two. Apparently a broken one that I can't get help with, counts as a car. I am beyond furious. Never ever ever again with Avis. UPDATE: The manager at the Boise airport was suppose to call me 30 minutes after my last conversation but...that did not happen. The Roadside assistance told me when the tow truck driver got there, "get in his truck when he picks up the car and he will drive you to the car rental place for a different car. Seriously? I wait all damn day for my car, then advised to get in with the tow truck driver (I'm a women) when the tow truck driver arrived, during xmas traffic in the evening, with a stranger and go get another car? Hmmm. Well, he arrived. He asked for a flashlight. No flashlight? We got him one. He didn't bring his reading glasses so he couldn't see the letters on the cover of the something that told him how to release the gear shift to load the car on to his truck.
