UTTERLY WORST RENTAL AGENCY HANDS DOWN. Lesson learned! My wife & colleague rented a vehicle and this company submitted a claim against our insurance. I've always videoed to show before & after pics of a vehicle (sometimes in front of employee) that we rent from. Mind you that both drivers have 0 points and incidentally, didn't video it. Save yourself the headache & rent somewhere else! I had to deal with our insurance company & even mentioned that reviews for this branch had similar experiences to our agent. Beware and triple check your contract, regardless of what the agent tells you. Thrifty has failed to adequately staff their Phoenix location and the agent failed to follow our verbal declination of additional services, resulting in a very expensive unneeded service being added to our contract that we did not catch until we saw our final bill. The amount of time it took to check in and pick up a vehicle (2 hours), coupled with an inability to reach anyone by phone is incredibly frustrating. I will never patron Thrifty or a parent company in the future. I hope that losing customers is worth the $467 (!!) in unwanted additional items (roadside assistance and extra insurance). They still have not answered my question regarding the internal process for additional services (whether they are added by the agent proactively or defaults that must be removed). We feel their practices are predatory to consumers. read more

The front desk girl was great. It was a nice surprise to know she was from California. There was no line, we rented a car about 70% off the rental price per day. It was really quick, found our car easily on the lot and was on our merry way. I gave 4 out of 5 because they tried really hard for us to purchase insurance coverage when we said no a couple times. read more

This company is complete trash. I have pictures of both vehicles I was provided. One had mechanical issues (before I even left the airport) that said "Pre-collision Maintenance Issue. See local dealer" , and then upon return... they gave me a vehicle that had two half drank Vitamin Waters in the cup holders, was not vacuumed out, dog hair everywhere, and it smelled like wet dog as well. In regards to the second vehicle, the key fob battery was dying within two hours of me having the SUV. Again, I document EVERYTHING, so I took pictures of the screen letting me know the key fob was on it's last leg. I spoke to two different customer service reps out of 5 calls (both times I finally spoke to a rep, I waited on hold for 34 minutes or longer just to get a rep on the line) and they did absolutely nothing. I have pictures of those calls as well. I ended up taking the SUV to a car wash and I had to clean/vacuum it out myself, as I would've been completely embarrassed to have a colleague and/or client ride in a cluttered stinky vehicle. I reached out to American Express to dispute the charge, and they're taking care of it because of the "well organized documentation" I provided them. Two weeks later, I receive a charge for $49.26 due to a 13 minute drive on a toll road. I was charged $4.26 for the time on the toll road, and a "processing fee" of $45. Unbelievable. $49.26 for 13 minutes on a toll road. Seriously??? I hope this 2+ star company goes belly-up after the BS they've put me through. Please do yourself a favor and find a different car rental company. I wish I would've read the reviews prior to, but hopefully my review will help others look for a different alternative. read more

Thrifty Car Rental (Boise Airport) The company I work for typically books my car rentals through Thrifty, which means I rent vehicles through them a lot. I always have the best experience at this Thrifty Car Rental. Their front desk is conveniently located by baggage claim and their cars are just a few hundred steps (627 to be exact) out the door. What makes this Thrifty Car Rental five stars is the overall service, both during pick up and drop off. Car rentals at this Thrifty is general just that, thrifty. I just looked at my last 6 rentals and none of them were over $60 per day. My most recent rental was only $36. And here's the thing that I love about this Thrifty Car Rental the most...my rentals have all been upgraded without an additional cost. I know, I may have just jinxed my luck with these complimentary upgrades. Or is it luck? Maybe this Thrifty Car Rental just wants to keep my business. Guess what? So far, they have. The car worked but it smelled like it had been smoked in from the time I opened the door. Secondly, it was not cleaned very well at all. The buttons and consoles looked oily and as if someone sprayed water over everything and then wiped once with a towel. Both the desk clerk and the return facilitator were great. read more

I rented a car from here during a work trip. I reserved my rental through my work's reservation system. The class of car I reserved was available and there were no surprise fees or charges. Sierra at the rental counter was friendly and helpful, and played up some good restaurants in town. She didn't try to upsell me on LDW/supplemental insurance since it was included in their company's contract with my work (I have had rental agents try to upsell me in other cities). I was told that if I returned the car early that there might be extra charges, which I found odd, but fortunately I didn't have to test that. I wasn't asked to show a gas receipt like other reviewers have said, but they did suggest that I fill the gas tank within 10 miles of the airport. The car had relatively high mileage (45k) and the USB ports wouldn't let my phone play music on the car radio, but other than that the car was fine for what I needed it for. I was a bit miffed that they did a damage inspection when I returned the car but didn't do one when I picked it up (though I made sure to walk around it before I drove off). Despite my generally positive review I should note that my co-worker who I traveled with rented a car from the same company and had a terrible experience with his car. read more

I reserved at one rate and got a higher rate at the airport due to airport fees. That stunk. Then I returned the car a day early and they took my full rental fee and tacked on an early return fee. The location was understaffed, the car had a maintenance required light lit, and the fuel receipt policy may have been fine a decade ago, but practically every other agency had moved on from requiring this (even internationally). Let's face it, the receipt policy is there solely to screw over customers. There are probably 5 has gas stations within 1 mile of this location, let alone within the 10 miles they request... I would have given 5 stars but the counter person was very pushy on getting their insurance. Not sure if they get a commission on that. They wanted to charge me 90 dollars for 3 days. My rental charge was only 144. I told them I had good insurance and they gave me the 3rd degree. On the other hand the car was great and no issues with it. I'm in Meridian. Called to ask if they had a car available as I needed one right away. The person speaking to me was hard to understand, the phone quality is terrible. The person I was speaking to wouldn't give me a direct answer just kept saying things like he was reading off a script. I asked to speak to a manager and the person continued to talk like didn't even hear my request. I then said, "no, I want to speak to a manager" and he hung up on me. I called right back and got Jenny, again couldn't hear most of what she said. She too would not just give me a straight answer and did put me on hold for a manager but no one ever answered. I do NOT recommend this place and if you look through the reviews, I doubt the legitimacy of the good reviews after my recent experience. read more

Communication between Priceline's subsidiary Rentalcars.com and Thrifty car rentals was very poor. They both charged for collision insurance. I call Thrifty car rentals and they said the employee we made the reservation for would have to come to the airport so she could rewrite the contract. The Rentalcars.com was difficult to even get to actually talk to someone and she hung up on me as I told her a statement she made was not correct. I guess that technique is in the training manual. Next I called Priceline and the gentleman that answered my call tried to be helpful and said they would email me in the next 10 minutes or so about the determination they came to about my issue. The response came in about 10 minutes as he said and they credited my account of the insurance. The issue was resolved, but with better communication it would not have happened in the first place. read more

Oh yea. Brought the car back a day early. Additional fee there, plus due to time restraint my sister didn't fill it up. So hit me with $9.18 per gallon or an extra $90 plus a $25 fee for not bringing back filled. Final bill 240% above quoted price. Oh yea the car battery failed on my sister and they said she had to fix or they would charge to tow.... really. Fortunately a friendly sort jumped it for her. This airport agency is a joke. Do not use these guys! ...unless you want to wait an hour for your car, have poor customer service and get a car different from what you ordered. That was just my experience with them last weekend. I ended up waiting over an hour after being told "just 15 min." ...and then "just 10 more" min for the next 45 min. And then they gave me a different car than I ordered, which I didn't find out until I had trucked all our luggage to the far corner of the rental car lot. They do NOT keep their cars on lot, as noted on the sites, but drive them up as you need them...so if there is any complication, they have no backup. It's not worth the lower price. read more

Anyway, I was paying $35 a day for a Crown Vic and was asked if I would like a Toyota for $28 a day. Sure. Why not. Went thru all the fine print and left in a hurry. AWFUL! I requested a 4x4 and confirmed that when I picked up the vehicle. I went up to the snow with my 91 year old mother and found out I did NOT get a 4x4. We got stuck in the parking lot at a ski resort. At that point we were unable to go where we wanted to go. When I returned the vehicle one of the guys at the return kiosk laughed when he looked and saw I didn't get a 4x4. I told him I was very sorry that he thought that was funny. I went into the airport to their desk and all they said was...sorry and offered me coupons for next time! NEXT TIME??? THERE WILL BE NO NEXT TIME!! read more

Had the WORST first experience of renting a car with Thrifty. I reserved a car online through their website and made a down payment for a cheaper rate (paid about $130) for a mini van for 2 days. Got the car and they said we had to make a deposit and that they'll just hold the money in our account until we return the car. We asked if their will be a charge for returning the car later than the pick up time and the lady at the counter told us NO which is why we decided to return the car later. When we returned the car the guy had told us that the money should be back in our accounts by midnight. Just checked and they had taken out $409 which brings our rental to a total of about $539. $539 for a mini van for TWO days?!!!! That's pretty ridiculous if you ask me... And the money they say that will be deposited back into our accounts is pretty much BS because we didn't even get a penny back. Should've just stuck to enterprise to be honest. Thrifty just wants to take the most amount of money they can get from you, they don't care about the customers. Won't be renting from Thrifty ever again that's for sure! read more

The price is always the best with Thrifty and usually a great experience. Recently I traveled home from Washington to Boise and rented a car to continue on into Nevada. When I went to give my information I realized I had not yet gotten my new drivers license in the mail yet and had my expired one. As I was standing there helpless and four hours away from home with my family I asked the Manager ( they said his name was Steve) if I could print my drivers license renewal from my email. He said no and I completely understood as this is a rule. I was trying to figure out what to do amongst my family and this souless manager goes on to tell me that it is a $60,000 dollar car (it was like a Saturn or something..haha) and he couldnt just take chances with that kind of money out there.....etc.... on and on. Where is this guys customer service or soul for that matter. He was arguing with someone who was out of luck and not complaining about the rules. This "manager" needs to get a grip. A simple no, Im sorry we cant do that, would have been sufficient. Best of luck to you Steve when you get in a pridiciment. I rented a car via the internet with my credit card points which possibly had something to do with my bad experience with Thrifty in Boise. The Sentra was on the back row and had scratches and dents with little stickers placed in those locations. The car had 40K+ miles on it. I was offered another on the same back row too small to get my two large suitcases. The next offer was a Prius at a higher rate. When I said to cancel my reservation I would go to another company they gave me the Prius also with 40K miles at the same rate There seemed to be nicer cars on the front rows I wasn't offered. The whole time the two employees were telling me they always got their parent company's left over junkers to rent for Thrifty to rent since Hertz had bought them or merged. I didn't really care, I wanted out of the Boise cold and a low mile car I could get my suitcases in and be on my way so i took the Prius. They seemed to have nicer cars on the front rows I wasn't offered. The ones they offered me were what they referred to as the overflow lot I believe. The employees seem to be upset with their parent company Hertz and didn't mind sharing it the entire time. I just wanted a car that was in decent shape after a long trip. Thrifty or their parent company will not be my future choice. read more

If I could give zero stars I would have. I have been renting from this location for years, once a month on average for about 50 rental car days per year. Needless to say I thought I knew how they worked. When I picked up the car I knew it was going to be too small, I asked for something larger. I was offered a slightly larger vehicle but it was large enough. I was told it would be $176. Being I was going to pay $173 for the smaller car I said that was fine. When I returned I learned that it wasn't $176 rather than $173 but was 176 on top of the $173. With tax and fees the new total was $418.65. I couldn't believe it. I went to the counter to dispute the charge knowing they know how much I rent from them the the gentlemen behind the counter completely blew me off, he just didn't care. I did point out that there are another 8 or 10 other rental counters right next to them, it didn't matter. So now I will be renting with anyone other than Thrifty, Dollar or Hertz, the parent company of all three. read more
