We waited an hour and half and canceled our reservation as there was no way we weren't waiting another 2 hours. I showed up for my car rental in Minneapolis that I had booked through Priceline. The guy at the desk asked me if I wanted insurance. I said I have my own. He said then just the basic. I said yes I have my own. Then he gave me a bill for $600. I asked what that was because I had already paid priceline. he said this is the BASIC car insurance. I had him remove that. Then he tried to charge me $240 in taxes for a rental that was $70. I could not get the car if I did not sign even though I knew he was scamming me. I had to pay the money & call priceline the next day to get the charges removed. Beware of these shady tactics. read more

Horrible experience! Due to extremely unclear policies and communication, I've had to cancel a reservation I made weeks in advance. This company gave me (and still giving me) issues getting a refund so I reached out to BBB. This company responds saying that a full refund has been processed and can be expected within a week, and then sends an email days after the BBB case was resolved/ closed saying they can't locate my order and therefore cannot process any refund. They basically lied to get the BBB off their back and are still holding the hundreds of dollars I spent for a service I didn't use! I rented a car from Thrifty at Orlando airport on 3/16/24. The attendant was speedy but didn't really go over anything. Asked me about additional insurance and I said no, I was covered thru my insurance and she said I just need to know who your insurance is with and I told her. She asked about whether I wanted to fill up before returning or pay Thrifty gas rate and that was it for questions. I did not have to initial, sign anything. She did not have me go over charges. She gave me the keys and away I went. Well as I was walking away and she was already helping someone else, I noticed I was charged $95.28 for LIS and a frequent flyer surcharge of $8.00. I cut up to the counter and asked her what LIS was and she said insurance and I said I didn't want additional and I had told her that. She told me my insurance "didn't transfer". Now I had just rented a car from Thrifty in Jacksonville in February and I did not have any issues and no problems with not getting additional insurance. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to argue with the agent so I left. I sent Thrifty a letter to their Executive Customer Service Team dated 4/10/24 regarding this issue and have never received a reply. Not even a "sorry, but we can't help you" letter. I will never rent a car from them again! I will be in Salt Lake in a few weeks and even though Thrifty was a little cheaper, I'll be renting a car from Dollar. K. Why have I never done the Thrifty park & ride thing before? It's so much easier to come to the airport and leave it on your own schedule than it is to beg someone else to drop you, wait for them to pick you up, or deal with a surly taxi driver at 6am. The price is decent, too -- if you reserve online, you can self-park and leave your car for about $6 a day (which saves you money over just showing up). For short trips, that's cheaper than a cab. I also found everyone here to be very friendly, from the attendants who checked me in to the shuttle drivers who got us to the airport. The man who dropped me off at my car even waited for me to start up my ol' Corolla to make sure it'd make it in the Buffalo cold. One note: as their site says, be sure to come ~20 minutes before you need to be at the airport to give yourself to take a ticket, find a space, wait for the shuttle, and trundle over to BUF (literally right across Genesee Street). Oh, and there's a drive-in Tim Hortons at the entrance, too. I was tempted as usual, but the skies were a-callin! read more

For starters I was rented a vehicle with an expired registration. Isn't that illegal? Supposedly the vehicles are non-smoking which I was thankful for but when we got in it was clear that nobody enforced it or cared as the car smelled like an ashtray. Yes you do have to take a 3 minute shuttle to get to this car rental, if you are lucky you'll get the driver who hands out chocolates because he thinks it makes your day better. The thing I like about renting from this company is once you are in their system you don't have to repeat your information like you do at other places. Thank you because this makes check in wayyyyy faster. Some of the staff is super friendly and efficient, others are there to make a paycheck and that is not necessarily bad unless you need special attention or friends everywhere you go. I use Thrifty for most of my rental car needs. In a lot of the bigger airports, I can usually bypass the rental counter and get my car right from the lot. Not here. After a shuttle ride, I had to wait my turn to fill out paperwork at the counter. They didn't have the class of car I had reserved so I was upgraded for free. No real complaints about service. Would give them 0 stars if possible. The staff is friendly/fine but the owner puts conservative political bumper stickers on all the rental cars. So should you not want to drive around in a rental that advertises someone else's political beliefs unethically you should steer clear. You are PAYING to advertise for this owners political stance. I used thrifty for parking when I flew out of Buffalo, and had a great experience. I found a coupon online for $5 a day parking, so it was a great price. The shuttle was right there to take me to the airport, and came frequently at the airport when I was headed back to the lot. Thrifty / Dollar have an off site location, whereas most of the other companies are on the airport property right across from baggage claim. And you do not get a break on the ridiculous airport fees by them being off site. I have rented with them several times and for a short rental it's worth it to pay another $1 or $2 per day to their competition to save the time it takes to use the shuttle. The high pressure sales pitch for their insurance packages is tiresome and a poor way to treat customers, especially repeat customers. A simple "no" should be the end of the discussion. And besides, the rental company insurance is always a rip off if you have coverage on your own policy; or on your credit card; or on your AAA membership. read more

Avoid a Dollar/Thrifty at BUF airport unless the savings are significant. Unlike other car rental agencies at BUF they are off site. This means you have to shuttle to/from the airport which wastes at least 10 minutes each direction. In addition, they share this shuttle with area hotels which means more stops. On top of all this, they don't pre-print contracts for Dollar Express or Thrifty BlueChip members which adds more unnecessary waiting time. And, the final fail was there only one person working BOTH counters when I returned the car at 8:30am on a weekday. Completely unacceptable service. read more

I would like to give a "0" star if possible. I booked a minivan through Hotwire. My booking were confirmed when i reached to counter, Lady at counter simply told me that they dont have any mini van. She was very rude and told me like it or not we dont have car you booked and confirmed. Though she offered me two compact in same price. I was not only person to be disappointed. Later I realized that when I was in line for my turn, there was another guy going to same . Lady at counter was really rude to him too. I would say never go to them just becoz of cheap price becoz they add hidden fee later when they bill you as high as 11% which is not shown while you are booking and confirming. No stars for Thrifty after rental car experience at Tampa Airport. I did not realize the agent was signing me up for extra insurance and roadside assistance. She never asked if I wanted to opt out. Then she proceeded to lie to me about the plate pass system in florida. She told me most toll areas did not take cash so we needed the plate system. After spending time in Florida I found out that was a lie to gain more commission. Be aware they fast talk you into "choosing yes" 12 times on their little screen and you'll be on your way. If I could give this a zero star rating I would! I rented the car through orbits with a flight, I decided to purchase the additional insurance through orbits. When I got to thrifty they wrote up this long rental agreement, I explained that I paid through thrifty and also purchased the additional insurance for the rental. They told me, " well this is just the DEPOSIT that puts a hold on your account" I sign the papers and in the end find out that they had charged me an additional $206.43 +tax for extra insurance that I already had. They did not ask me about this and their shady ways of having you sign the papers is unacceptable. I have rented from many companies before and have never been scammed so completely. read more

They are terrible--avoid them. Booked through rentalcars.com; it said that I would get a surprise upgrade (to a family size car). When I went to pick up, the bossy, rude, lady at the counter said that I had booked a compact and i would get a standard, while I thought the surprise car was a family sized car. I wanted a family sized car, she charged me 15$/day extra (in addition to 35$/day). Since we were tired flying from the west coast, and the other car rentals are closer to terminal (this one is outside), we got a Hyndai with a few dents. This is typical "bait and switch". This company is a disgrace and a blackhead on the face of corporate America. Stay away from them. First, they will try the "bait and switch" when you order online and when you pick up the car suddenly there are additional " fees". We had our original receipt so we successfully thwarted their cheating. Two other customers were not as fortunate. Then, they gave us a dented car and we had to make sure they marked it on the inspection ticket. Then, the car we were given had a bumper sticker that stated "vote for the American." they will cheat you. And they are off airport so you have to take a shuttle. I booked through Carrentals.com for $160 for the weekend but to my shock when i checked their bill after i picked up the car it showed $200. When I called them up the guy picking up the phone was very rude and flatly told me that those rates are estimates and they can charge me pretty much anything they want to. I was told that I should not have picked up the car if I had problem with the difference...excuse me but when i picked up the car nobody told me that the rates had changed, besides it was 2am and what would I do even if I didn't accept the new rates? where would I go when u guys are not even on the airport with nothing else nearby???? Thats why they know they can get away with it in the first place. Oh and that not the only scam they tried to pull. The gas tank was a half and the guy noted it down as full. We spent 4 days on a rainy weekend on holiday in rural upstate NY . I tend to wear comfortable cloths when relaxing , ball cap , work pants and a T shirt . I also tend not to shave every day when i relax . When i returned the mini van I presented my paper work and keys . The sassy bleach blond behind the counter grabs all the paperwork and puts in the trash , grabs keys and says with attitude " This is all I need " " Your parked in the wrong spot ,I need to move it " I informed her that the van needed vacuumed. She parks the Van . Without a word walk to a managers office . The manager and Bleach Blond review the mini van . Now the manager walk in and with out asking me a question or greeting me say " Obviously your a construction worker and you used the Van for a construction project " My blood pressure boiled instantly . The condescending stero typing attitude the management and staff here is appalling . I could care less about a $25 buck cleaning . ( which i don't think contractually they can charge ) The best part of this company was Ann Marie who work the night shift . She is helpful and sweet, helped me out of a bind . A disgrace to the Thrifty/Dollar brand. This Thrifty makes up their own fees and their own rules. I rented a car here for work and traveled to a rural area. I do this all over the country and I have had never had a problem like this. I was yelled at and charged a $150 "cleaning fee." I am required to travel to rural areas for my job. This was a rainy snowy week and mud splashed on my car. At the time the owner yelled at me that they were going to charge me $100 to clean the car. That is absurd in itself as mud splashes and they would wash the car anyway before the next client. When I check my credit card I see they raised it to $150. Corporate's response was that is up to these guys. I will never use this or any Thrifty again. ALSO be warned, they are not on site at the airport. There is a shuttle required. When i returned my car at 4pm on a Thursday they had one person renting cars out and checking returned cars in. read more

I would give 0 stars if possible! We rented from here to drive to a funeral in Erie after flying into Buffalo. Our return flight ended up being cancelled the next day, so we managed to arrange a flight out of Erie, thinking we could return the car to an Erie Thrifty location for a slight fee. We were shocked to find out that this is an independently owned location so it was not possible unless we paid a $400 fee. Outrageous!!!! Why present yourself as part of a major chain when you actually aren't?? The agent said, "Well, that's why we asked if you planned to return to this location." Well, duh, but they never warned us they were independent so it wouldn't be possible to return the car anywhere else! I feel that was very disingenuous of them. Travel plans can change all the time so just be warned that if you aren't staying in Buffalo you won't have the option to return the car elsewhere. We had to call back and ask our airline to rebook us out of Buffalo again so we could return the car because I absolutely wasn't willing to pay that kind of fee. When we got there, they had already charged our credit card the $400. I should have known this place was trouble when there were two different companies supposedly working out of the same office. They can't even decide if they are Thrifty or something different. Just pay a few dollars more and stick with a bigger chain. Also, they aren't onsite at the airport like most of the other places.
