I rent from National every week. I mean every week. In 13 different states. I never have a problem. Cars are always ready to go.

Ranks up there as the worst rental places I've visited. Didn't have any vehicles other than a truck and van which didn't bother me (even though I reserved a vehicle weeks ago) However, when I returned the vehicle I left my headphones and phone charger in the front console. Called and left messages with every number that would pop up but there was none for the front desk. Impossible to contact anyone or hear back from anyone. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THESE GUYS!!! Worst National Car location I have ever dealt with. This location has zero customer service and no loyalty to their best customers. I am a dedicated National customer and part of their Executive Emerald Aisle group. After a long, bad travel day I arrived at the airport to be told they did not hold a car for me. I had called the National number to confirm my reservation during a layover in Detroit. The counter agent did nothing to help me. Just handed me the managers business card and said that I needed to call. That they had instructions not to hold cars for more than 2 hours. Not sure how this helps when your trying to recover from a missed connection. No effort to call my number or send an email. Both of which they have on file. I pleaded my case but the girl would not even look at me. So I called the National number again. Told them my situation and asked for their help. They said they would pass this on to the regional manager and I would get a call back the next day. That was three days ago and I'm still waiting. I ended renting from Hertz, who I would recommend, at a much higher rental rate. I would normally call the local number directly during a travel delay but I did not have it. I did receive a welcome to Cedar Rapids, your car is waiting email. But it did not contain a local number. Running short of time I called the only number I had and got a confirmation of my reservation. read more

I've traveled through CID many times and almost always had a good experience at the National Car Rental kiosk. Unfortunately, my last interaction in September was really negative. My flight came in at approximately 11PM, and where it's usually smile, grab keys, and go, instead I had to stand in line for 45 minutes, with about 12 other customers, while only one staff member checked people out one-by-one. Then their were no compact cars left, which I had reserved, so I was given the largest white mini van I have ever seen. I usually always get a compact car, because I'm just driving myself, and I want to save on gas mileage. I was told that I could come back to the airport 1 or 2 days later, and they *might* have a smaller car which I can exchange the mini van for, they might not, and they can't hold a smaller car for me if one arrives. I just have to keep calling them. I did come back 2 days later and was given a mid-size car, still not a compact. When I finally dropped off this car a week later I was asked nicely about my experience by the employee working then. I explained my frustration with the length of the line, he apologized and offered me a free "upgrade" next time I travel with National. So I can get a large white mini van on purpose instead of accidentally the next time I'm driving around Iowa alone. read more

Convenient location at the terminal, which means no shuttle bus that you have to take, as you just get your keys at the rental counter at baggage claim and then walk out the door to your car. The service was fast and friendly and would have been four stars except they had no cars left, only SUV's and minivans. I got the smallest SUV but it was still too big for just me but at least I wasn't driving that far. read more

Extremely poor and non-responsive customer service. Worst service I have ever received as a 21 year emerald club executive elite member. Great selection of cars and convenient location (right inside airport). The staff is very friendly and helpful. I do wish that they had Emerald service to bypass the counter as I can imagine the line getting long with only two agents to help you and a plane-full of passengers rushing to get their cars... Quick, efficient, and friendly staff behind the counter. We needed an SUV rental that day, and National came through.

* My "upgraded" vehicle, a Ford Escape, was dirty on the inside ... the icky kind of dirty that makes one want to go take a shower. * National tried to slide in some extra charges for insurances that my profile explicitly declines as my AMEX already covers them. * The SYNC system didn't work so I could not sync my mobile phone. For being a regional airport this location has a very good selection of cars / trucks / SUV vehicles. I would recommend this location.

As usual, I had a great experience with National. He asked me the kind of car that I wanted and I told him a small SUV. Got a Ford Escape, which was a nice car and did what I needed it to do. I prefer airport locations with the Emerald Aisle so I can choose my own car - that's the only reason I didn't give them a five star rating. read more

Convenient location and great selection. Car was clean and ready and in perfect working order. My only issue was with the wait...both coming and going there were about 6 people ahead of me in line; most of the other counters only had 1-2 people waiting in line...maybe their prices are too low or their customer service is too good :) read more
