After over two years trying to fix my bite issues with my crowns, he convinced me that orthodontics would not work and that replacing all six crowns was a solution. Well within 5 months I had crowns falling out and a severe infection that left my face unrecognizable (over $10K wasted), now I am working with an orthodontist and prosthodontist to redo his work. I was extremely pleased that Dr. K , the dentist at the Upper East Side's Smile, restored my old, broken denture so it looked and felt like brand new. Actually, it was better than new as he added some metal mesh so it wouldn't break again. The office is small, clean and comfortable, chairs are spaced 6 feet or more apart and hand sanitiizer is available at the office window. The repair was made in just a few days. Amazing ! The denture was nicely presented in a plastic carry case with a good supply of Poligrip denture adhesive cream thrown in gratis. READ THIS BEFORE GOING- This dentist is not only dangerous and unskilled, but also extremely unprofessional. No wonder there was an appointment within one day of searching. He gave me a route canal which caused WORSE constant pain. When I went back three days later, he was clearly insulted when I asked if I should go to an endodontist. Then he didn't consent me for anything, looked in my mouth with the light, and starting filing my tooth really hard without warning. I put my hand up and told him to stop because it really hurt, and HE DIDN'T STOP. Take this guy's license away please. Simply amazing. Never in my life was I treated this good during a dental visit. I'm so glad I finally found such a caring and professional dentist. I found it while on a evening run towards central park, I called the next morning and It was so easy making my appointment, and I work weird hours, but the girl who answered the phone was so helpful and managed to get me in during my lunch break. I haven't been to a dentist in 2 years so I knew I was due for a good cleaning. The girl who cleaned my teeth was incredible, I didn't feel one ounce of pain, she was very fast and I've never had a cleaning this good. Everyone at work thought I had professional teeth whitening done, but all I had was a cleaning :), thank you so much!!! Dr. Korotun saw me after my cleaning and fitted me for a night guard. I thought I would have to wait a few days to pick it up, but they called me later in the day and said I could pick it up on the way home, which was clutch!!! I also took this time to ask him if I needed a certain procedure my last dentist advised me I desperately had to have, mind you it was a $2500 procedure and I have never had cavities or any issues with my teeth. Dr. Korotun smiled at me, took an xray and within a few minutes he came back in and said "Save the money, take a vacation", I couldn't believe it...had I not rushed out of my old dentists office, I'd be 2500 in the hole. I usually review about restaurants, but this office truly deserves an applause. The front desk attendent was great! She able to fit me in at the last minute on a cancellation being that I live around the corner. Not entirely sure about the dentist himself, didnt really go over concerns or my X-rays like other dentists I had in the past, just took a quick look at my X-rays, and then I got a recommendation to get some work done. read more

Dr. K is great. But I miss Dr. Hanson, as a lot of you do. One thing I realized is that Dr. K is not a "within network" dentist for Metlife dental PDP plan and that caused me to pay multiple times than I used to pay for a root canal and crown. Dr. Korotun is a great dentist. He is gentle, he won't rip apart your mouth!! He is also honest and won't push unnecessary work on you. He removed my IMPACTED wisdom teeth--without putting me under--with minimal pain/ blood, and absolutely zero scarring or complications. I was good as new in a couple days. Other dentists would have wanted to put me under completely! It took Dr, Korotun less than 5 minutes, using just local anesthesia (shot of novocaine to the gums), and it was minimally painful for me. He also managed to take the teeth out whole, rather than fracturing it in tiny pieces which are then difficult to extract. He has a skilled hand and I highly recommend him. East End Frowns is more like it. When I went in December they did a poor job of cleaning my teeth. Now I have a medical emergency and am experiencing horrific pain. Dr. Korotun spent 5 minutes with me, didn't take any x Ray's, and gave me a piece of paper with referrals. He walked out and I had no idea he was done. Perhaps a little more compassion would be appreciated. He didn't give me any direction if which specialist to see. Nor did he care about my pain. read more

Unfortunately Dr. Hanson is no longer there and the new place makes no effort to let you know that. Dr. Igor Korotum is unfortunately the dental version of a used car salesman. He will make you think you need titanium replacements for every single one of your teeth, or something equivalent for your case. I guess all doctors really struggle to survive these days. Proof that this is not just me - the dental assistant, who came from the old practice, is more professional and knowledgeable than the dentist. She will tell you honestly and truly what needs to be done (which comes out to quite a bit cheaper than the dentist's recommendations), but unfortunately she cannot overcome the authority of the boss. Dr. Korotun has been my dentist since my baby teeth. One time he had to remove a chicken bone that was lodged in my throat. Another time he had to put my front tooth back together after a sports injury. I am now in my thirties and his work still holds up. I guess I was spoiled by his Midas touch because every dentist since Dr. K has been brutish and sloppy (even though I pay out of pocket). I believe that in such delicate work one must have this touch and the only way to cultivate it is to really love what you do. Listen, don't take my word for it. Go get a check up and just talk with Dr. K. If what I am saying is false I'll eat my words. read more

For years I have considered removing my unsightly amalgam fillings for health concerns-- mostly their mercury content. After a routine checkup with Dr. Korotun, I made the decision to extract and refill five total fillings in two days. What a great experience--seriously! Not your typical dentist! Dr Korotun is honest, caring and not trying to steal your money. They're very flexible with their scheduling and the office is a clean and friendly environment. The only downside is that this is a far commute from my home but otherwise well worth the trip.!!!! read more

Was refused service due to "late arrival." I arrived within the 15 min grace period (14 minutes to be exact and showed her the time) and was informed by the receptionist that I can't be seen even though the hygienist had asked if that was the patient. She mumbled under her breath "she's late." I tried to reschedule and was informed the next available appt for the slot I can attend is in September. I asked if there was availability at the end of the day and was told no. It sounds pretty clear at this point that I will not be seen. As I'm riding home, front desk staff calls to inform me of a 6:30 slot. I'm already on my way home... really? Please retrain front desk staff. I will not be returning. read more

This experience with Mr. Korotun was absolutely one of the worst experiences of my life. This man is a nasty, despicable, cruel, beyond rude piece of s--t that calls himself a dentist. He rushes everything, always seems mad, doesn't spend a minute explaining the materials used. He is annoyed if you ask him questions about anything at all. The amount of money I got ripped off was 2 months of SS for me. I was not satisfied with the work he did and hated the way it looked. I asked him to take a look at it and to hear my problems with it and see if we could discuss and come to some sought of compromise. The material was cheap and 2 months in, it has started to fray/peel, looks dirty, is uncomfortable. He stormed out of the hygienist's office and this is what he said and I quote "It looks dirty because the material is dirty" in front of his daughter and the hygienist. I said to him something has to be done about this. And again, and I quote he said "it's too late" and left the hygienist's office. I stormed out of there and filed a grievance report against him. I've never ever had to do this in my life. I don't want anyone else to go through this. This has caused me extreme stress, anxiety, loss of sleep, appetite and of course the financial pain. He is by far the most reprehensible, arrogant person I have ever met and should not be practicing dentistry. If there was a zero rating, I would have chosen that. read more

The front desk (Liz) and the hygienist are amazing! Liz is always friendly and helpful and the hygienist is as good as they get. She's thorough, knowledgable, talented and passionate. They are BOTH phenomenal. I have to say that I was very skeptical after Dr. Hanson left, but the staff stayed with the new dentist so I figured I would give him a shot. He's been fantastic. He had BIG shoes to fill and he's done it well. He threw in (at no charge) a second titanium post for me when I had a molar replaced. He was concerned that one wouldn't be strong enough and did it as a precaution. Extremely cool. I can't even tell that the tooth had been replaced and it's now a non-issue. Thank you, again, Dr. K! Recently, I was in for my last cleaning/check-up before I moved out of Manhattan. During my cleaning the hygienist thought that my receding gums were causing an issue with the bone mass at the base of my teeth. She took the time to carefully explain the issue to me and she showed great concern that if I didn't address it soon it could result in more of a problem. Generally, the appointment only covers the cleaning and a second appointment would be needed for any additional matters. She was aware I was moving and that my insurance was set to lapse. Concerned that it might be a long time before my new insurance would start she went and grabbed Dr. Korotan for his opinion. He agreed with her concerns and, without hesitation, did the bonding right then. Not only that, he didn't charge me for it. He just wished me well! Awesome. Thank you, yet again, Dr. K and company!!! East Side Smiles was a breath of fresh air after some of the past dentists I've had. They fully explain everything before they start anything. All of the staff were friendly and professional. This man is a crook! Insisted that I needed an onlay and charged close to $500 after insurance. It is fine if he actually did the procedure he said he was going to do. A year later I switched to a better dentist and was told that no onlay was ever done, just a filling. Totally disgusted. I had an appointment that they canceled and trying to claim I had made a phone call to to do so, which is utterly untrue. The front staff was completely confrontational and in denial, and my request to speak to a manager was met with a convenient "she's not in today." The dental hygienist agreed to see me after the next patient. The front receptionist then informed me that she could not allow this, after I had spent 30 minutes waiting. This establishment seems to be built on the single focus of filling every appointment slot, double booking, and forgoing professional courtesy. After being 15 minutes late I was told to reschedule. As I no longer live on the UES, I decided to just get a new dentist all together. I have been with East Side Smiles for 3 years now. I was horrified to see under my new dentist that I needed a root canal and three other fillings! I don't know if a cavity can form and worsen to the point of needing a root canal over 6 months, but I am skeptical and upset that this could have been missed. Now I am taking my time to research a dentist that will be thorough. I only have so many teeth to get me through this lifetime. read more

I'm not sure why four instead of five stars. Maybe I'm still a bit nostalgic about the old Dr. Hanson days--I had a great experience with Dr. Hanson (as previous yelp reviews will show). I was inherited by Dr. Korotun as a former Dr. Hanson patient. But my recent, and first, visit with Dr. Korotun went well. The same dental hygienist is still there, whom I really like. My visit started with the hygiene visit, where she was running about 10 min late. The hygiene part went well. After the oral cancer examination by the hygienist, Dr. Korotun came in to take a look. They took x-rays on my last visit, 6 months ago, so this visit was short. Dr. Korotun looked at my teeth, which has had a lot of work done in the past, admired my incisor crowns and said it all looked good and to come back in six months. I've had four straight positive visits to the dentist now, all in the same location, two different dentists. And since Dr. Hanson's departure, the office has had an upgrade with new paint and furniture added. It looks nice and clean. All of the staff were professional and I had a good experience. Again, not sure why not all five stars because I had a pleasant experience there. I would certainly refer Dr. Korotun for a dental check up. read more

Dr Igor omg don't know what he did to me first he said I had a cavity to be taken care of and when he did it a week later I was still in pain, so I went back to see why pain and then he said I needed a root canal which right there he numb me to start the process all of sudden he can't finish the root canal and schedule me to go back a week later a week really??? I am beyond pain it's horrible horrible horrible I called the office to go as an emergency and they said he was leaving at 12 noon so I asked can I come the next day Friday to finish what he started they said I can go but only to see why the pain and not finish the root canal. This is beyond crazy I'm taking Motrin 800 and that's not even taking the pain away I don't know what he did to me but the pain is so bad I can't take it. Plus he smokes and I'm not a smoker and my mouth after his visit taste like I smoked a few cigarettes which is the worst thing a dentist dr can do when dealing with people's mouths. Don't go through what I went through he is also very very rough. read more

I started seeing Dr. Korotun at his office on Long Island, and he has since expanded into Manhattan. (Probably because of the great success he has had over the years) I love the family friendly atmosphere and they were always super flexible with my schedule. Ever since I had my braces removed, I have had very sensitive teeth. He is super gentle and that is something that is very important when looking for a dentist.
