Ok-so I've been coming to this location since I was a little kid-so I got nostalgia on my side-this was the spot my parents would take us after an evening at the bowling alley,Lucky Lanes,which is now the Casino and I loved going here.I would also come here as a high schooler after the football games or late night parties-we would head to Nations on San Pablo Avenue for a late night burger and fries-it was the spot.Now as an aging adult I find myself still going to Nations on San Pablo Avenue when I find myself in the area,which is rare because I now live in Sacramento-well lucky for me,after a day in SF,I found myself in the area,so you know I had to stop at Nations on San Pablo Avenue Baby!!! Parking at this spot,never a problem,plenty of spots,they are a single tenant with all the parking their own-so no issues there. Walking in there,I don't even really need to look at the menu,though taking a quick glance at it before I ordered,they have added quite a few new breakfast items-that's the thing that is a a beauty of Nations-u can get breakfast or burgers at any time,so many options when you go there-that being said,I always get the burger-it's my favorite-I love it.I got the cheeseburger with extra mustard and pickles,grilled onions and jalapeños-no tomatoes($9.95) added fries($3.75) and a chocolate shake ($6.95). I added an oldie but goodie as well just for fun-a slice of banana crème pie($6.95)Just for the record,I wasn't the only one there,so other people were helping with the fries and pie. Here is the thing-this place is a messy old school grease pit-it's reliable-it will always be that-when u eat one of their burgers it will always end in a greasy mess-will have a plethora of mustard,mayo and grilled onions juice and whatever else comes from that burger all over your hands,but it's great-sounds kinda wild but it's really great and it's definitely happening and I love it. The fries are just alright-they are old school fries with reliable taste but nothing out of this world.Chocolate shakes on the other hand-they advertise them as THICK milk shakes and that isn't an understatement-you got to let these things melt for a bit or else your getting lockjaw-but they are wonderful and never miss an opportunity to order one-must have item every visit.As I've stated in previous reviews on other locations-you could never go wrong with pie from Nations and that still holds true-they are always so good and a perfect way to end a way too heavy greasy heavenly meal. In closing-if u ever find yourself near a Nations and u feel like having a throwback of a burger,one you would've enjoyed in the 80s,90s or today-go ahead and stop on by this spot and enjoy yourself like you would've 20 or 30 years ago. read more

For this place, the cake was definitely my favorite. The staff at the front was friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated. I signed up for their membership and got a free appetizer -- I chose the chili cheese fries. Unfortunately, they didn't really impress me, but they were still okay to eat. I also tried the Wild Salmon Sandwich with American Cheese -- the flavor was fine while chewing, but it had a strong fishy smell that was a bit off-putting. The vanilla shake was average -- not bad, just nothing special. The lemon pie ended up being my favorite item overall. It had a lovely sweet and tangy balance that helped cut through the richness of the other dishes. The atmosphere during the day was pretty quiet, and the restroom was clean and usable. I've been coming here to this location (and generally to Nations Giant Hamburgers) for over 25+ years. They always have the best taste and flavors of food and the staff here in San Pablo are so friendly. I love this location too since it's just down the street from my parents home, where I grew up. Its always a mixed crowd inside but always good. The dining room is spacious and kitchen large and busy. If you want fresh you can't beat Nations. I just had this grilled chicken sandwich, it tasted fresh, and healthy. It was delicious as well. I also had me a strawberry pie, also very tasty and tastes very fresh. They gave me a butter knife I asked for to cut up my son's food, and they pulled out this nasty dirty one that she wiped off with napkin. Here's the deets: CUSTOMER SERVICE: Despite what I read in the reviews, customer service was on point from go! Carlos and Lilliana were super sweet and no matter how many times my Mom and I returned back to the counter to ask for additional items, they never seemed annoyed and were very patient and pleasant with us. PARKING: Enough inside the establishment. BATHROOMS: Super clean FOOD: Mom ordered the Cowboy burger which came with a big beef patty along with two (2) tiny crispy onion rings, bacon and cheese....condiments you must ask for. I ordered the Harvest burger because I am vegetarian. TBH, with all the "fixings" (which is how it comes served- with iceburg lettuce, tomato and raw white onion and house dressing) - it is tasty. Walked in on a Sunday, there was one maybe 2 people in front of me, walked in to the counter and was told another customer was getting change, happy to step aside; did so for a few minutes. As the last customer exited the parking lot, I still stood a side for a few seconds, maybe I didn't see who was before me. No one stepped up, a couple minutes went by, no acknowledgment, still stood just waiting, nothing, walked out the door, still no acknowledgment. They may not need my acknowledgment, but I have recognized, and recommended their business, which will probably continue without recognition, but I will no longer recommend this business. I just wanted a burger and fries to go, but was met with low expectations, when I spend money here always without hesitation. Disappointed. I've been a patron of this nations for over 40yrs. Of course things evolve and change over the years, but I sincerely hope today's experience is a one off. So Nations now has a customer rewards program and to kick start it they had a special offer if you joined the program. I joined and planned to redeem my reduced price entree this evening. I placed an online order for 2 hamburgers and 1 fries at 6:25 pm. I received a reply my order would be ready at 6:43 pm and that was the extent of communication from the app. For future context I live about 2 minutes by car from the restaurant. I arrived at 6:45 and was told my food would be ready in approximately 10 minutes, it would have been nice if the online system provided updates of the order status and I would have adjusted my arrival instead of waiting in area with limited seating, which forced me to stand. I understand that Friday night can be busy, but as I said before a status update would have been nice. Also I only saw about 4 tables with customers, not jam packed as it can get, so I'm not understanding the time to prep a small order. I received my order at 6:59pm. When i sat in my truck I reached for a fry to discover it was room temperature, not piping hot as I am accustomed to receiving from Nations. I wanted to walk back in and complain but figured my burgers would get cold if I waited for a fresh order of fries. When I got home and pulled the burgers out of the bag, something seemed off. I removed the wrapper and the buns looked like they had been smashed. They were flat and without a dome shape. It also appeared that the burger was much smaller than usual. The lettuce was minimal and tomatoes were definitely thin. Im used to a nations burger filling my palm and making a mess every time i bite into it. Not the case tonight. I would say that todays burger was comparable to a whopper which is available at similar distance from home. If I have a similar experience the next time i come, i will opt for a different burger spot going forward. read more

This was not good the fries was the worst undercooked ones I ever had in my life and I feel like they cooked them two times in old oil the burger was not like on the picture it was smashed hard and for the price this is not worth it. Came here to buy a pie for a holiday get together. Watching the employees prepare the food behind the counter and they are wearing gloves but no hairnet or hair covering. 3 employees working over a hot grill, I would think that's the basic minimum for food safety in the industry, but it seems for the last few years, people don't care about washing their hands, a lot of food recalls due to bacteria from either where it is grown or packaged or prepared. Corporate needs to make sure every establishment follows at least the basic food safety requirements. read more
