This is definitely a spot for teens and their friends or a first date. It's got that nostalgic kind of vibe. Most people order ice cream and desserts here. I see why--didn't particularly love my burger and hard waffle fries. They definitely use old oil and everything comes from frozen. It's a spot to get fed, not for the flavor. I've been coming to Foster Freeze since I was little, and it's always been one of my favorite spots especially for their chocolate-dipped cones. So this review is honestly disappointing for me to write. This last visit was the worst experience I've ever had here. The ice cream didn't taste right, and the presentation looked like no care was put into it at all. It felt rushed and sloppy, like they didn't even try. Even the ambiance felt off usually it's a fun, nostalgic spot, but this time it just felt unwelcoming and not up to par. I ordered what I thought was going to be a simple kids scoop, but somehow ended up being charged $7 for a vanilla shake--and still got a small scoop in a big cup. It just didn't make sense. On top of that, the sundaes we ordered were way smaller than usual and definitely not what we're used to getting here. For a place I've loved for so long, this was really disappointing. I'm hoping this was just an off day, but it definitely didn't live up to the Foster Freeze I remember. read more

There are times they get busy like during lunch hours, probably when school gets out, and times when they have old school car shows ( which is pretty cool seeing some of the old school cars in their parking lot). My go to when I go are the fries ( love the crinkle cut fries), some of their twisters, steak sandwiches, and don't forget the old fashion burger. Fosters Freeze has always been a treat for my children and I as we don't live in California and would only get to go there when visiting my Dad in Pinole. Now my children are adults and they still have to stop by for some nostalgia and a sweet treat whenever they are visiting their Grandpa. Awful customer service. The employees act like taking your order is a hassle or bothering them. Used to come here often. But I wont come back anymore. Walked in, tried to order and was standing there without being greeted for over 5 minutes while the person outside was helped, understandable, they were there first. Then it was my turn to have my order taken and they answered the phone and took the phone order in my face, still without greeting me. Then they turned to the window and took their order. I asked in an irritated tone, "do I have to call or go outside to get my order taken?", to which the woman replied "Ill be with you in a sec" in an irritated tone. I left immediately. There are far better and cheaper burger places nearby. I went to a nearby burger spot and was greeted instantly upon walking in despite the cashier already in the middle of taking someones order. The last time I came here 3 weeks prior, they got my order wrong as well after the same rude attitude. Won't be going back to fosters freeze. Not that they care, I suppose losing 1 person visiting twice a week wont hurt them much. Its just 150-200$ less each week. Not a big deal. read more

First time at a Fosters Freeze so I didn't know what to expect. I got a small Twister (cookie dough). Service was friendly and I got my item fairly quickly. There was a car show going on in the parking lot so the inside seating was near capacity and the tables not cleaned off. The Twister was good for what it was. I didn't think there would be so much cookie dough in it, but there was a ton. If you're the type to want something in every scoop, this is the place. The lady at window had attitude while taking my partners order, the order was repeated back to him correctly but after coming home everything was wrong. My turkey burger had cheese on it, my partners burger had onions and tomatoes on it when he asked for it not to be. It's a hit or miss but this time i pissed off. I had a taste for a good juicy Cheeseburger so i chose Fosters Freeze. The staff was cool and the wait wasn't long at all. I ordered a Cheeseburger kid's meal with a Dr. Pepper. Ok let me first start with the positives. FF definitely does their shakes well. The Twister with Reese's was pretty good and satisfied my sweet tooth. The curly fries were also as expected - flavorful and crispy. The gripe: the "crispy" chicken sandwich left a lot to be desired. It was mostly lettuce, chicken patty was generic and thin, soggy and nondescript. I mean, I know it's not the red carpet of chicken sandwiches but come on- I've had fast food chicken sandwiches with thicker patties and at least some crunch! Anyway, lesson learned. So I finally gave into my craving for a hot fudge sundae...it was disappointing because it was served in a tall skinny cup. The hot fudge was not distributed very well and it was difficult to eat even with a tall spoon. The sundae was good but I was left with all the hot fudge on the bottom. I could barely reach the hot fudge unless I wanted my hand to be a sticky mess! I think the server was new so I'll cut him some slack. read more

Bit into my cheese fries and the fries were almost completely frozen on the inside. The outside of the fry was the only warm part other than my cheese. Went up and asked if they could remake it since it's cold still and politely asked if he could make it more crispy. He took it back and remade it, but gave an attitude while doing so. I have been here multiple times and don't think I should have a problem if I don't like the way my foods made. The "ice cream" is actually pretty good and the service was friendly and efficient, but my butterscotch shake needed some butterscotch flavor, which it was lacking. We happened upon this Fosters Freeze about half a year ago and have been coming regularly on Fridays to get our boys a little treat to celebrate the end of the school week. The owners are always so gracious and we always feel so welcomed. Customer service has always been great, but I'll give you an example that we saw on our latest visit. There was a customer who was getting out of his car using a walker, and the owner told him through the ordering window that he would come out to him instead. The customer was so appreciative of that kind gesture. The food is also so yummy!! My kids love getting the grilled cheese, hot dogs, chocolate covered bananas, and of course, the milkshakes! Oh boy, those shakes are something special! Thick, creamy, and satisfyingly cold--everything you would want in a milkshake! We haven't had the chance to try everything yet since the menu is so extensive, but have loved everything we've had and I'm sure that everyone will find something that suits their taste. Public information (as well as within this page on Yelp) indicates they were closed in October due to the presence of vermin. I will not be returning until they pass at least two inspections. I love this place! Now I know you'll might say out of everything on the menu I chose a Grilled cheese sandwich. But my favorite thing on the whole menu is the Grilled cheese sandwich!
