Medium Chocolate dipped ice cream??

I've been coming to Foster Freeze since I was little, and it's always been one of my favorite spots especially for their chocolate-dipped cones. So this review is honestly disappointing for me to write. This last visit was the worst experience I've ever had here. The ice cream didn't taste right, and the presentation looked like no care was put into it at all. It felt rushed and sloppy, like they didn't even try. Even the ambiance felt off usually it's a fun, nostalgic spot, but this time it just felt unwelcoming and not up to par. I ordered what I thought was going to be a simple kids scoop, but somehow ended up being charged $7 for a vanilla shake--and still got a small scoop in a big cup. It just didn't make sense. On top of that, the sundaes we ordered were way smaller than usual and definitely not what we're used to getting here. For a place I've loved for so long, this was really disappointing. I'm hoping this was just an off day, but it definitely didn't live up to the Foster Freeze I remember.

Foster Freeze in Pinole, a great spot to get burgers, fries, hot dogs, shakes, twisters, soft serve, and other. You can order through the window or inside to dine in, I always order through the window. There are times they get busy like during lunch hours, probably when school gets out, and times when they have old school car shows ( which is pretty cool seeing some of the old school cars in their parking lot). My go to when I go are the fries ( love the crinkle cut fries), some of their twisters, steak sandwiches, and don't forget the old fashion burger. Fast food places like McDonald's, Jack in the Box, and/or Burger King ( I feel going down hill with quality), Foster's are made to order and you get that nostalgic diner feel.

Half & half. Large cone.

Okay, I've only ever gotten dessert here. And how can you mess up a soft serve cone?? Got a half & half. Delicious Walk up to the window, get greeted and order. Easy peasy.

Yes it might be old and need renovations but the service is so welcoming and the cashiers are so friendly. It was my first time at this restaurant and the food was actually not too bad i was shocked. The prices are also not too bad so i will definitely be returning.

Fosters Freeze has always been a treat for my children and I as we don't live in California and would only get to go there when visiting my Dad in Pinole. Now my children are adults and they still have to stop by for some nostalgia and a sweet treat whenever they are visiting their Grandpa. This trip to Pinole we were able to take our grandson for the first time. He got kicks out of the place and devoured his food. That's 4 generations of Fosters fans over here, ya'll! It's a great place to take your kids, highly recommend.

Texas toast cheeseburger- they forgot to add my burger patty.

The Texas toast cheeseburger I ordered, was missing the burger patty. Imagine making it all the way home, only to realize the burger was missing the actual patty.

Chicken sandwich was kinda sad

Everyone just wanted something cold from Menchie's. It was great, they had all my favorite flavors! I served myself some Pineapple, Mango, Passion Fruit/ Orange/ Guava, and Choco/Vanilla Twist. I added hot caramel topping. Price per ounce: 80 cents/oz (Sept 2025) Menchie's Frozen Yogurt is a self-serve, pay by weight, fro-yo shop. There's a cashier island and the fro-yo machines run along the back wall. There's a toppings counter that includes: wet, dry, liquid and fresh fruit toppings. I'm guessing there was a 2nd person working, because how could one person run the shop and keep the place so clean and organized. The young lady working the checkout was very polite, and even tried to sign me up for Menchie's Rewards. BTW, the frozen yogurt was very good. I was a bit amazed that it wasn't runny on a such warm day. The fro-yo had a thick and creamy texture. Not icy at all. The fruity flavors was cold and refreshing. The choco/vanilla swirl (twist) was creamy and smooth. It wasn't too sweet. FYI: There's 7 machines, 2 flavors each + the center swirl valve. So there's 21 flavors to choose from. Tables inside, and several tables outside on a small patio. Free parking I would return if I'm in the area again.

I started coming back more often after he passed and it brings me joy to see that it is still operating and that the owner is still there behind the counter and working alongside his family. Double Rainbow has been a local staple of San Pablo for many years and has contributed and served the community with great hospitality and delicious ice cream flavors! My go-to is the cappuccino frosts and the strawberry cheesecake ice cream (cheesecake pieces and real strawberries)! I put my bf on the cappuccino frosts and now we drop in every now and then for some! We have become semi-regulars now haha. I'm also very happy that they brought back their lychee nut ice cream (with real lychee pieces), another favorite of mine! I haven't tried their ice cream cakes recently, but remember getting them for my birthday as a kid, along with their clown cones! Their prices are also very decent. Definitely stop by and check out this local ice cream spot!

I'm currently boycotting that national pink and brown chain with the number of flavors for some extraordinarily rude service in the neighboring town. I had currently supported a local ice cream shop over in El Portal and was satisfied. I didn't want to go that far so I remembered Destenny's which is near where I live. Quaint small shop. Kudos for re-imagining a small space for a local business. Not many flavors but a good quality product in Mitchell's. The lady was very nice in making my split. She went out of her way to accommodate my need to transport my split in a container. My only issue is the split and a Red Bull came to $20 (plus apparently $1.50 for using a card). I didn't trip and immediately paid it. Now the split was awesome. But I got home and was like waiminute...$20?? The split from the other local place was $9 plus tax. The chain woulda been $7 plus. Was the split $15 and the Red Bull $5? Was the split $10 and the Red Bull $10. Ironically, I was contemplating going to Safeway and getting the fixings myself but ultimately decided naw, I don't need to spend that much, plus remember, we're supporting local. I got a loyalty card and I DID like the product. Maybe I'll try again and get a price point before I order

I love trying little hole in the wall type restaurants so that I can try something new and different. Nepali cuisine tickles tastebuds and when I saw Wild Boar on the menu, it was over!! I ordered and was really looking forward to trying something new. So... The food gets served and man, talk about depressing. First the portion was tiny for something costing upwards of $17. I'd be generous if there was 12oz. of food on that plate. It was basically "boar", with onions and a flair of cilantro(?). Trying to keep an open mind I pop the first piece of meat in my mouth and good grief!! Tough as nails, impossible to chew, basically hard dry jerky, Also zero sides, no salad or vegetables, just boot leather (color and texture) meat. Did I mention it was cold? Not heat lamp luke warm, just sat on the counter for 10mins cold. So... I swapped it for a hamburger. This was a standard Costco sirloin patty, std. bun, lettuce, tomato, onion. Pepper jack cheese was the upgrade, thankfully, this was served hot. Now I hate to bring up hygiene but at one point the cook walked past us and his BO followed close BEHIND and left an impression... C'mon man, it's a damn restaurant!!! C'MON MAN!!! Now... I just don't get it... In this era of cooking shows, competitions, books, podcasts and celebrities. This world where Gordon Ramsey is EVERYWHERE, how, how, HOW can you not put in some effort!! How can the Owner / Manager allow this?? It was a Friday night, the bar had about nine people at it while the restaurant had the two of us and one other diner. On a Friday night!!!! How do you even stay in business?? Listen, I hope ownership takes note and immediately does something to up their food game. I want them to succeed but if this is the best they can do... Just shut it down. Sad diner, signing off.
