I worked in Rochester two weekends in a row. I went here for a late lunch both Saturday's. They don't start serving food until 5, but they did have some really good pizza on the bar menu and that was all I really needed. I actually got there early, before they were even open. The bartender was super cool. He let me use the restroom and told me their hours. I left back to the hotel, then came back. The service is great, the environment is just as great. Even though it was just lunch two weekends in a row, it left a good taste in my mouth. No pun intended. I will be back to checkout their dinner menu the next time I am in town. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I haven't had dinner yet. But so far i like it! read more

I've never had better food and drinks! The service is unbelievable. They genuinely care about your entire experience and work so hard.

I have gone to Native about three times, and it has been very underwhelming. You pay for the location and their attempt at an upscale rustic ambiance. The exposed brick, high ceilings, light fixtures, dark wood and booths are alluring. They also have an impressive patio, with large natural light windows that also serve as doors to enter and exit the bar. Sometimes you can get lucky and park for free, or metered, but I haven't always had luck and have used the garage across the street. Out of the things that are still on the menu, the items I was most impressed with were the Empanadas and the Steamed Buns. Some of the burgers they have had have been decent, a safe bet for something who always orders burgers. The berries and cream salad may have been revamped, but initially it was very sweet. I was excited to try the Hibiscus of Life, as a tequila fan. Hibiscus is hot in the cocktail world now, but the smokiness of the drink was overpowering. I stick with their wine and beer list if venturing over there before a Geva show. Something that is pleasant about Native, is that it didn't have the loud restaurant roar, for a night out with friends or a date. Ultimately, I recommend this establishment for a beverage and an appetizer on the patio, or before a show. read more

Got the midtown burger as take out. NYS beef, soy braised pork belly, garlic aioli, greens, house pickle, tomato, onion, NY cheddar, and smoked tomato ketchup. You'd think with all of that, it would be phenomenal, but it wasn't. Also wasn't very hot when I picked it up so by the time I got home, it was barely warm (I live 4 minutes away). Came with fries but they were not good and also cold. Definitely not worth $17. I gave it 3 stars because the ambiance is really cool and I would go back for a drink and to try other things. They also have a ton of outdoor seating. Parking is inconvenient, particularly for pick up, might be easier for dine in. read more

Native eatery is definitely one of my favorite places to go for a delicious bite to eat and incredible drinks! I recently went and sat outside and I absolutely loved the ambiance. This is definitely a great place to come with friends, on a date, or for any special occasion. First off, the service was excellent. Although you could see it was quite busy, the server made an effort to check on us and make sure we were enjoying our experience. The drink list is massive! The cocktails are definitely the best part, especially the green machine and the Bentley. They also have a large selection of beer and wine. For food, we decided to order some apps for the table as well as main entrees. The peach pizza is some of the best pizza I have had, and I could have eaten the whole thing. We also split steam buns, empanadas and the crab cakes, all of which were delicious. For dinner I had the burger and it was very good. The pork belly on top adds a really nice touch. My partner had the squid ink pasta and I will definitely be ordering that next time. Some of the best pasta I have had in a long time. Although prices are a little higher than average, it is comparable to any upscale contemporary restaurant in Rochester. I will definitely be back to Native and highly recommend to anyone looking for a great experience! read more

This is a beautiful, open, stylish place with amazing food. I came here to test out the vegan version of their airline chicken dish. The portobello substitute was phenomenal. I was having a birthday dinner for 12 and searched all over the area. It was incredibly hard to find a restaurant that would let us book for 12. After a long search I chose Native without ever eating there or stepping inside. That was a risky move but nobody else would book us. I was absolutely thrilled at our experience. They had us in a private area at a huge table with plenty of room for our party and all of the food. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and they came out rather quickly, and were amazing. Everyone enjoyed every app. We had Charcuterie, the country bread, Tostones, lettuce wraps and pizzas and everything was absolutely delish. Our dinner came and i heard everyone talking about how great their food was. My steak was one of the best I've had and the potatoes were to die for. In addition to the food, I cannot say enough about the service. Our waitress was top notch. She was friendly, helpful, always checking in, she provided the best service we've had in years. I took a risk booking at a place I didn't know and it turns out I had the absolute best birthday dinner thanks to Native. read more

The room itself has a nice feeling, a nice vibe. The trouble is that we were already slightly disappointed. Before we came we talked to the manager of the restauran. The manager had already told us that there is FREE parking across the street after 7:00 PM. As a result we decided to try the restaurant. Well... that may be true, SOMETIMES but we were there on a Saturday night and it was a $7 dollar charge probably because Geva had a show. Gee what a surprise I think Geva does that all the time (as I role my eyes upward like a 13-year-old girl). So we felt the free parking was somewhat puffing. Seconds later we were back to give the restaurant a fair chance. As I said we walked in there and we had a nice feel about the place. The waitress could not have been more charming. Waitress did everything right, explaining items, pointing out what she felt was the best, nothing to complain about. We definitely liked the waiters. We liked the wine, and thought the food we ate had a great taste. Both my wife and I ordered the CIOPPINO, one friend ordered the GNOCCHI, and one ordered the GREEN BURGER. My dinner, the cioppino had a great taste. The problem is it was warm, not hot enough. I wanted to be certain I was being fair so I asked the others if my dinner was not hot enough, they agreed. Then there was the actual difficulty o eating the food. Eating at our table was downright DARK to see the food. So dark it was very difficult to take the mussels off the shell. So difficult one mussel shot of the shell and into my lap. So instead of LOVING it, it was just ok. Sad because it could have been great. Sad because if the few problems were taken care of I would have given it 4 STARS. So, now I will explain why I feel this place deserve 2.5 Star. Once we made our order, it took FOREVER to receive the food. Although we did not complain, both the waitress as well as later the Manager apologized. Apologizing without us pointing it out. So, given this, would you not think a relatively NEW restaurant would want to charm us into coming back in the future? What I believe most managers would do, is offer something so the customer would leave feeling better about the problem. A good manager would want us to tell others how great the place is. Maybe a free dessert, a drink, anything! As I said, we did not complain even though it was obvious it took forever. Let me define FOREVER. Our first ever dinner experience at Native was sort of a mixed bag tonight. Some really enjoyable, some weird, thus a 3-star rating. We made a reservation online a few days prior; the only options were 6 pm (we thought this was a little early) or 8:45 (too late) - and we booked the 6 pm slot. When we arrived on time, the restaurant was almost totally empty - only one table had people and there were maybe 2 people at the bar. Not the atmosphere we were expecting. We were seated immediately, placed at a table way in the back, in a corner, which, as the restaurant filled up (we were told they were totally booked solid) ended up being quieter for our group to talk to each other....however, it felt like being kind of banished outside of the 'energy' zone: unable to appreciate the view of the city lights outside, the people-watching as people came in and sat at the bar, and the ability to see every one else's orders which we were looking forward to. It was also VERY dark and we needed to use our phones to see the menu. We ordered salads as our first course, plus mains, and service was relatively quick. Two of our party got the Native salad, one person felt theirs was perfect, the other thought theirs was bland, so they asked for salt and pepper. The server quickly brought grinders - one with peppercorns and one with rock salt, but the salt grinder was nearly empty. I had the pear-fennel-beet salad and felt it was perfect - a great mix of crisp and delicious fruit and veggies - raw beet sticks plus thinly shaved fennel and nice pieces of pear, plus a well balanced dressing and spinach leaves. I would get this again! For our mains: -- I got the lobster bisque. It was a huge portion, served in a large deep bowl, with lots of tender lobster meat (all positives!), but it was made with a dark brown roux and likely the caramelized shells of lobster and/or other shell fish, which resulted in it smelling kind of funky/weird, though it tasted ok; -- My hubby got the steak frites - the meat was cooked perfectly medium rare, was seasoned well and was served pre-sliced, with a bunch of fries and a nice blob of herb butter (all positives!). The meat was really lean though, and he felt it would have benefitted from some kind of au jus or gravy or something to add some fat back in - the butter was not enough; -- One friend got the pork special which was two big chops on a bed of braised kale on top of a nice portion of sweet potato puree - he loved it and ate every bite; -- The other friend got the Coq Au Vin - she said she enjoyed it, but only ate about half and then opted not to take the left overs.... About mid way through our meal another server came to our table and asked if we were finished with the salt - apparently they only had one salt grinder and they were sharing it among all the diners. We thought that was kind of weird... Then we ordered desserts: -- one order of creme brulee with a 'strawberry bottom' - (my hubby and I split it); this was a perfect portion for ONE person; hard sugar top, creamy smooth filling and what appeared to be strawberry jam on the bottom; tasty, but small compared to the sizes of the other desserts we saw being served; -- one order of the cinnamon raisin bread pudding which our friends shared and seemed to enjoy We also got coffees at the end of the meal - 4 cups of coffee came plus a small container with various kinds of sweetener packets - but no cream. We asked for cream twice and when it finally came it was served in another coffee cup - not a carafe or proper serving vessel - so we had to use our spoons to dip into it and take out what we wanted. This also seemed weird. Service-wise, aside from the incident with the cream, our server was attentive, and she checked in on us a little TOO frequently, which seems like it wouldn't be a bad thing normally, but from the point of delivering our salads through taking away our dinner plates she checked in approx 7 times which we thought was excessive. Overall we are torn as to whether we will return; we like the menu and the concept, but might wait til warmer weather to check out the patio and then compare service and dishes. read more

Tonight for date night we decided to try something new so we picked Native. First impressions were amazing. Nice location, decent-sized bar, dining room was relaxing and cozy. For appetizers we ordered what was effectively chicken tacos with lettuce being the "tortilla" and some Cajun dry rub chicken wings. The tacos were weren't terrible but had a very mixed flavor. We had a hard time figuring out how to eat them with the lettuce being very soggy and loose. The chicken wings were good. Nothing noteworthy, just your average bar wings. For entrees we decided to go with the red pepper pasta and the Salmon w/ beet risotto. I'm not a huge fan of beets, but the risotto was extremely sweet and it sort of took away from what a traditional risotto should taste like. The salmon was perfectly seared and peppered on the outside, and almost raw on the inside. The skin was soggy, peeling off of the filet, and very oily. My dining partner found her sauce to be delicious, although the pasta was a bit thick. The saving grace of my experience was our server. I didn't catch her name, but she was polite, attentive, accommodating, and professional. The drinks we ordered (Moscato & "The Bentley") were tasty and we had no complaints there. All in all, I would return to Native, but probably just to grab drinks at the bar and order finger foods. read more

The seasonal pizzas in mini form were alright topped with some peppers. Nothing stood out enough to draw me back for a meal but if I do I know I'll try something new. It was date night and we needed a restaurant to try! Our buddy suggested Native. Of course it is a city restaurant so parking can be a pain, but not terrible. There was clearly outdoor seating but not an option for winter dining. The inside was dimly lite but cozy! We got a table right away. The menu was small, which is standard for this type of restaurant. We started with the charcuterie board; very yummy! Loved everything on there! We ordered entrees that were seasonal. Tried once; won't be back. The burger was as stone cold as the dried out French fries. I asked for mustard (please), but it never appeared. Meanwhile, the waitress kept refilling the drinks, which I understand, because they drive the bill, and thus the tip, higher. I wanted to ask if the band if the could play a little louder, because we were seated at a booth at the far end of the room, and we could still almost have conversations at the table. Went in this evening for a 9pm reservation for two, we arrived 10 minutes early and were seated within 5 minutes. We were given a table in a back corner which was fine but after waiting 15 minutes out waiter never showed up. I understand places are short staffed, but no one ever came by to tell us it would be a little while or even bothered to bring by some water. Ended up leaving and no one even noticed, as if we were invisible. Just awful. read more

I have been there multiple times and the food and service have been good. However, the last time I was there, I was charged something called a convenience fee on my bill. Supposedly it's for using my credit card. I have never been charged extra for using a credit card at a restaurant, especially when they are on the expensive side. Native is on the higher end with $50 steaks at $12 glasses of house wine. I think they can absorb the lousy 1-2% fee that the credit card company charges. It's the cost of doing business. McDonald's which is a low-margin restaurant doesn't charge extra to use a credit card. I might expect this at an inexpensive restaurant that only serves breakfast and lunch and doesn't have alcohol sales to help boost the margins. Even those places typically have a sign stating the difference between cash and credit. Maybe I'm being petty but I don't appreciate getting nickel and dimed. Especially when the average dinner for three people is close to $200. I hope the convenience fee was worth it because I will not be returning. read more

Acted like it was an inconvenience to wait on us. Took the orders from men first and First round of drinks took 15min, She screwed up first drink order and argued that she was right. After the first round was brought and she made an error One of her comments was "This is not my first rodeo". Positives-Drinks were very well made and tasty once we got them. We finished those and waited 35 Plus minutes for her to return to take our drink order. Appetizers came quickly as well as bread. She came back to a 12 glasses empty and no bread. Asked "how is everything". She forgot drink orders and drinks came out one at a time. SSSLLLLOOOOOOWWWLLYYYY. Basic Serving skills lacked (I was a waiter in college and after college). We waited with no drinks or food for 45 min or visit from the waitress. Did not know who ordered what because she did not follow any procedure. Dinner was served one or two plates at a time from the kitchen. from several different runners who did not know cuts of meat (The Expo should have told them). The Waitress came over and asked how was everything.... My wife had to ask for her dinner. UMMMMM "My wife ordered a dinner" "Oh Yeah hold on" 5 min later... Gnocchi not homemade....frozen Beef cuts very Fatty...My friend had a pile of FAT after the dinner. Pork shanks were garnished with canned fried onions? One was very fatty. My wife liked her hamburger...It's a hamburger....you can't screw that UP TOO BAD. Absolute SHIT service. The only reason I tipped her was we split the bill. Manager/Owner was more concerned about flirting with the bar patrons than making sure we were taken care of or doing damage control I will never return. No redeeming qualities what so ever. Tried Native tonight for the first time. I can see why people got frustrated at the parking, but I was able to get a spot right across the street. I waited for the rest of my party at the bar and was impressed with their beer, wine, and cocktail selection. The bartender was extremely attentive and friendly. After my party got there we sat outside, which was very impressive. The outside patio area is one of the best in Rochester if not the best. The waitress was also very friendly. I was a little put off by the prices on the menu. $17 for an impossible burger? $30 dollars for a fish meal that I can sub for tofu but it doesn't reduce the price? I understand that they're trying to attract high class clientele (and it's working - there were many professional types there) but it just seemed a little too pricey for what you get. I ordered the tacos with falafel instead of meat and my girlfriend ordered chicken wings, sweet potato wedges, and we shared an order of hummus. We were delighted to see that the hummus came with some crisps, but also an array of vegetables which was nice. My tacos were OK, especially for the price. My friend said the wings were excellent, I was able to attest to the blue cheese which was spectacular. However her sweet potato wedges were kind of soggy and not the least bit crispy.. kind of a deal breaker. Her sister ordered the chicken cutlet which she said was good as well. Most recent experience ... food was very good, Service was great, and the vibe atmosphere was fantastic. Bartender Maxwell was extremely friendly and inviting and clearly skilled at his craft. The cocktail menu was well thought out and offers something for everyone. Service was concise and timely; Jess did a great job caring for our table. Food was very good, saw quite a few things pass our table that I am looking forward to returning to try! Loved the atmosphere and vibe was upbeat, light and had great energy. The open-air dining is an absolute treat, we were lucky enough to have a great evening where the expansive windows were able to be opened completely. I attended on a Friday night. 12/8. After waiting a good hour for our food it was mediocre at best. We had the short ribs and while the texture was good they lacked any real flavor. We were told the extra wait was for the sauce to be remade however there was none noticeable on the ribs. There was also no offer of complimentary appetizer or drink to offset the wait. The potions were small given the price and was served in a small bowl instead of a plate to give the illusion of more. There was no typical sides. No bread (unless purchased as an appetizer) and no salad or vegetable side. All in all not worth the menu prices at all. Much better options available in the city. read more

My date and I came here because we were looking at options that were close enough to walk to from where I live. I really loved the decor. I opted for the peach pizza and have absolutely no complaints. It was exactly what I wanted. My date got the full chicken cutlet dinner. We had no idea how big it was - four pieces of chicken! We did ask about the size beforehand but I think the server was new. I'd have opted for slightly less chicken and a little more salad. It also seemed sort of greasy to me. Nice wine list. read more

Came here again with my sister. Pretty sure you would need reservations if you came on the weekend. I'm not sure about the weekdays but it's pretty busy during the weekend. They have the most delicious cocktails. They are unique and fresh, delicious. I ordered a gin, tarragon with grapefruit cocktail. Delicious. My sister ordered a jalapeno mojito type drink which was also delicious. We ordered the charcuterie board which had 2 different types of cheese, prosciutto, salami, pickled onions, olives, and candied nuts. It was also drizzled with honey on top. So good! I ordered the duck confit pizza. It was pretty good. Large size. I couldn't eat the whole thing and I eat a lot. My sister got a vegetarian dish, it was a mushroom dish with veggies. Her food was a little under-seasoned and not very flavorful. Not terrible but not what the other dishes are in the restaurant. To top it off we ordered a brownie for dessert that was topped with caramel and Pittsford dairy vanilla ice cream. The brownie was so soft and just absolutely delicious. We had dinner tonight before the show. The Native Eatery space is really nice -- a large open hall with tall ceiling separated into cozy areas by high backed chairs and tables. We ordered a delicious loaf of bread: sourdough and wheat that was broiled just before serving with a crackly crust, and slathered with a delicious butter whipped with honey and herbs. Next up were two salads, mine was beer and fennel and pear, here was a green leaf salad. Both were excellent. Our entrees were a terrific winter vegetable plate with lots of interesting vegetables and textures and tastes; and a huge juicy pork chop perched atop vinegary kale on a squash purée. I have only been to Native twice, and once was only for drinks. Drinks were great both times. Really enjoy the spicy margarita-style drink (as recommended by the bartender, who was fun). Also had a fabulous grilled cheese and tomato soup on my second visit (at the bartender's recommendation). On that alone I'd go back. This place has great potential. First, I was SHOCKED at how big it was inside, and the amount of seating they had outside. The interior is clean, well decorated (modern vibe) and there is a massive bar perfect for happy hour. There was a good-sized crowd there when I arrived for dinner. While waiting for the other members of our party to show up, a few of us grabbed a drink at the bar. The bar is definitely the highlight of this venue - the bartenders were friendly, the service was quick, and the drinks were perfect. Dinner was a little less spectacular. They ran out of one of the specials early in the evening so after a few ordered it, they had to choose a different option. The service was on the slow side and we had to ask to get our waters refilled. We waited a while for the food to arrive after we ordered; when it arrived, it was pretty decent. There were no complaints from the table. A few people from our table ordered dessert which was underwhelming. They didn't have the ability to torch the top of the creme Brule for some reason (which was luckily comped from the bill). The sticky bun bread pudding felt like it was sitting out for a while. Like I said above, I believe this place has potential and I am open to coming back for dinner when they are a bit more established. I went here for lunch with coworkers. I priced strange white hairs in my food, but figured it was from the particles and crap in the air and on the table. Something about the space made it feel like the air was just not clean. After I spoke with coworkers later, I discovered others experienced white (dog or cat?) hairs in their food. I didn't say anything at the restaurant because it was a work outing, but looking back, I should have said something. I wouldn't trust their food, especially since two people noticed the same thing. Well this was an experience which I will explain the good, the bad, and the ugly. We went to check out this new spot with some friends who checked out this place the week before and enjoyed it. The good- the vibe and the ambiance of this place is great! Very spacious, great outdoor seating area, and great drinks! So far, so good. We arrived around 615 to grab drinks while we waited for our reservation (Of note, mentioning the time is crucial for this review) We had a reservation at 7 and got seated around 715. Our waitress was a gem, super apologetic. It was unfortunate that she was the messenger of bad news the entire evening. The bad- we ordered two cheese boards for an appetizer. They didn't show up for 30 minutes (not terrible....) but when the cheese boards came they were pretty average for the price shown. We ordered our meals around 730 whilst waiting for apps. Key note- not too busy in the restaurant- max like 20-25 people when we ordered. The ugly- food never comes....but really it never came. Our waitress apologizes about every 20 minutes. We're told the food is coming or that it was being plated, but every dish that exited the kitchen was never towards our table. It's 8:45....let me say it again 8:45. Now the manager is involved...they're apologizing....so they offer us a free round of drinks, which we all collectively have had about a bajillion, so we're toasted and really just need food. Best part of ugly- manager tells us at 9 that our food isn't coming yet because a couple orders are ahead of ours (insert intense laughter here)!
