Value for money, so much under one roof. Located in Wailuku, like most stores, they also close at 3 pm. If you are looking for all things Hawaiin close to the town area, as in Kahulu, like I was, then this is the closest best store. Its a retail store, but for me it felt like a mini museum..... ha ha. In other words, great collection. They have an online website too where you can place orders and pick up in store, or get it shipped anywhere in US. We needed a traditional lei in 24 hours. They were recommended by another flower shop that didn't help us and had no creative ideas. Native intelligence is a cool little gift shop in Wailuku that features an array of items from clothing, to accessories, to instruments, beauty products, and so much more. They are a champion for Native Hawaiian culture, traditions, craftsmanship, and beautiful designs and it's evident in all the products that they carry within their walls. Their gift shop showcases local Hawai'i artisans and creatives which provides the two fold opportunity to find unique gifts while also supporting local businesses. The items that caught my eye include men's ties, bags, baby items, and jewelry pieces that featured shells (my favorite). We also prefer to get our leis here for special occasions and events. We've bought all kinds of different varieties at my work and the leis are fresh, vibrant, and smell oh so wonderful! They are well made and the prices are pretty reasonable as well compared to the big box shops. Highly recommend ordering ahead, but they do have some in store that is first come, first served. You can find free parking up on Main Street and it's just a short walk away. read more

Most locals love shopping here because of the quality selection. So, if you're visiting Maui and looking for a legit, Polynesian made souvenir (for yourself or to take home), look no further! My boyfriend loves their shirts and hats. He probably has every Native Intelligence brand shirt because they have such great designs and are super soft material (size up as they are slim fitting). As a local I wanted to bring my daughter to find her something to take back to the mainland. Staff were exceptionally rude so we left within minutes. Needless to say that they will not be getting any referrals or bussiness from me. This is a great place to pick up leis at reasonable prices in comparison to Safeway and local stores. During certain times of the year, it is first come first served. There are many beautiful Hawaiian jewelry pieces, artwork and clothing. There is free street parking on Main, in the rear or on the side streets. Arrogant and nativist staff. How about making customers feel valued instead of making us feel you are doing us a favor. They won't do refunds so from now on I surf online to purchase. Last time today they again don't care to try to be accommodating to customers. I have a special event to attend and could not decide between two shirts so asked if I could bring one back after checking with spouse, but nope. The don't do refunds just store credit!! Do you know how inconvenience that is? Do you realize it's the 21st Century and there is NOTHING you have in stock that can't be purchased from a number of online vendors? Souvenirs are physical memories of the places you have visited. Keychains, magnets, and little knickknacks are among the traditional items. However, those items do not necessarily support the local economy since they are mass-produced overseas. Also, you oftentimes might buy an item that seems locally made only to find out that it is not. At Native Intelligence, you will only find products that are made in Hawaii so rest assured that you are supporting the local economy. Of course a premium comes with locally made items, but you get what you pay for. The store carries a selection of items such as leis, clothing, jewelry, soap, books, stationary, and household products. There are also a lot of koa wood products as well. The stuff here make for souvenirs that are treasured rather than tucked away and forgotten. This is a great place to get a unique and thoughtful gift for someone or for yourself. read more

A special place with excellent customer service! We showed up just before closing and the owners stayed an extra 45 mins helping us with our selections. Our daughter just took up hula and we were I search of an ipu gourd drum. We received a tip from someone to check out Native Intelligence and we were pleasantly surprised. What a beautiful store! I go every time I am at the 1st Friday celebration, and whenever I want to buy pearls or something MADE in Hawaii. This last trip (I spend about 1/3 of the year on Maui) I was able to get one of the beautiful winter wreaths...usually by the time I get there, I can only look..they are all sold! And I was able to find a lovely pair of Ni'ihau shell earrings, something I have been wanting for a long long time. read more

This is a great little store that carries pretty unique and nice items. Pretty nondescript storefront, in a not-very-touristy part of town, close by the Bailey House Museum. There are pieces at a number of price points, from low-medium to quite high. This is not a bargain souvenir shop carrying the usual mass-produced t-shirts and tikis (in fact, I can't remember if they even had any tikis on display). Nor is it a pricey boutique that sells high-end Western stuff like Swarovskis, or even local oil paintings, which you could buy anywhere else in the world. Except probably cheaper. These are island sourced items, inspired by local culture - lots of really nice wooden pieces, mostly elegant and simple designs, which you probably wouldn't find elsewhere. Got 2 really nice t shirts and a cow-bone & koa wood spiral pendant, very simple and sparse, where the bone looks like ivory. About $80, so by no means cheap, but looks quite stylish. And, yes, by taste I could have spent quite a bit more, had I had the budget. By far one of the more interesting shops I saw on Maui. p.s. one of the other reviewers was all bummed that the staff ignored her. I got a slightly different take - the saleslady initially pretty much left me to browse on my own, which I actually prefer, rather than bugging me to buy stuff. However, as soon as I asked for information, she was very helpful and quite available to explain details about the pieces I was looking at. read more

I just loaded up on some great Christmas presents at NI. Such great people there, they make you feel at home and answer all your questions. (but if you no like talk story, they leave you alone, which is fine by me, too... unlike the other reviewer.) They have a fantasitic selection of Hawai'ian art work and handicrafts. The Ni'ihau jewelry is wonderful, authentic and makes a wonderful Christmas present (or so claims my wife). The shop supports the local community by working with local radio stations and with the Hula Halau's. We went to them for a Christmas wreath of indigenous plants, too. Mahalo nui to you guys. Really lovely shop that has a nice selection of island-designed and made items. We learned about the shop on the plane from Hilo to Maui - when I met a Maui local who I told I would be making the first stop at Fabric Mart, she laughed and said I really needed to go to Native Intelligence too. So I did! They do have some fabric and it's quite beautiful - but that's not the business they're in specifically. There are t-shirts with lovely prints and other clothing items, implements and implement accessories for all your hula needs (we got a pu'ili bag since I had made one but daughter has two pair and I was tired LOL). Lovely cards and lotions and soaps and art and jewelry. There was finally a pair of black pearl earrings that I LOVED that were absolutely gorgeous that I would have loved to have - but I couldn't quite afford them.
