I like to travel and eat Ramen so when I learned I could get a hot bowl at the LAX airport I had to try it. Here is my review: Airport ramen. I have a personal rule against it, but the upscale décor and an Eater write-up calling this the best restaurant at LAX made me curious enough to break it. Here are the results. The ramen is terrible. The worst offender is the broth. A tangy, almost sour miso with zero depth -- this is not an overnight broth. It tastes like a soup packet dissolved in water, and I've never missed oil in a ramen bowl this much. Adding insult to injury, it was served with a silverware-drawer soup spoon. Unforgivable. The noodles are just as bad. Limp, stretched out, and soggy -- they remind me of instant ramen, except they haven't even absorbed the god-awful broth they've been sitting in. The toppings are the one bright spot. The chicken appears to be grilled and is probably the best thing in the bowl. The egg is flavorful. Everything else is a problem: the nori arrives fully disintegrated, the broccolini is 70% stalk and a chore to eat, and the candied jalapeños are a baffling addition that saves nothing. What we have here is a restaurant that can cook a decent meal but has no business making ramen. Airport food is always suspect, but it's pretty hard to screw up a fried chicken biscuit. Let me start with the hash browns. They were actually thick perfectly cooked and some of the best hash brown patties I've ever had. I'd give them five stars easy. The chicken biscuit however was a disaster. The biscuit just fell completely apart. The chicken thigh was slimy and weird. The whole thing was just a complete train wreck. They do have a nice IPA and a beautiful counter to sit at and eat. They don't allow luggage at the bar unless it's under your feet. Which is kinda weird considering everyone there has luggage. You could sit your luggage against a rail behind you but it felt so insecure that I wished I had a bike lock to secure it. They do have nice beer on tap. But today, I was pressed for time and stumbled into Native by Nyesha. Uneeda was serving and seating, and from the first smile, I could not have had better service. I asked for a recommendation between the avocado toast or egg tacos. She recommended the tacos and she was spot on with that recommendation. The eggs were cooked to perfection, served on soft flour tortillas with an amazing green sauce. There was a generous portion of pork belly on top too! We're in LAX, very long layover.....shocked at how high priced ALL the food options are. We walk around a while, looking for my usual "tell" being that if air crew are eating there, it's probably a good sign. Spot one eatery with a co-pilot in line - but immediately discount it because this kid not only looks too young to fly, he doesn't even look old enough to shave. So we keep looking...and find Native. Menu looks eclectic, so we give it a try. Wife orders corn chowder and the beet salad, I go for the fried chicken sandwich. The food is delicious! And in my book, with overpriced and awful being the norm in so many airports, we are pleasantly surprised to have chosen wisely and at least the food was really good. Airport food is always pricy. It's expected. This place is no exception. Service was very slow to start with. I probably sat for 10-15 minutes at the bar before anyone paid attention to me. Then the bar tender asked who was there first, I said me, and she helped the guy who got there after me, first. It was an early flight, got the breakfast burger, added $7 bacon and it was good. It came with fries, but pricy at $26+$7 for bacon. They do add 18% gratuity and then add a line to the check if you want to add more. When there is a forced gratuity I never add more. Even if service is outstanding-business made a choice when they auto add, and that's what they get. I'm a 20% default person. Excellent service gets 25% when I have the choice but if service sucks, I leave 15% minimum. I would have left 15% due to the delay in attending to me but it wasn't an option. As an airport option it was fine but expect slow service. Anything better is a BONUS for airport travel read more

During our latest outbound travel through LAX Terminal 3, we chose to eat at Native by Nyesha because there were no other dining options with sit-down service in Terminal 3 (at least, not that I could see at the time of our visit). Native by Nyesha was fine. It's located next to Gate 33. This is a relatively-new restaurant and bar at LAX. It opened in October 2022. Nyesha is TV celebrity chef and California native Nyesha Joyce Arrington. The cuisine served is New American and Asian fusion. We were seated around 1pm on an ordinary Friday. Unsurprisingly, this place was busy. There was a wait, but it wasn't long. One side of the menu was "Breakfast" while the other was "Daily" (lunch and dinner). There was a decent drink selection that included beer, wine, and cocktails. The food menu was straightforward with 11 items on the Daily Menu. They ranged in price from $17 for the Bar Olives Anti-Pasto Plate to $45 for the Salmon entree. Airport pricing is typically higher and here even more so. My wife and I had the following: * Samgyeopsal-Gui: Pork Belly Tacos ($24) - vinegar glaze, grilled pineapple, flour tortilla, ginger mayo * Korean-Style Fried Chicken Sandwich ($25) - curry hot mustard, slaw, potato wedges * Diet Coke ($6) - includes refills Our server, Jevon, recommended the Pork Belly Tacos. It was a great recommendation and I recommend them now too. Three tacos with thick, glistening, and succulent pieces pork belly were beautifully presented on a plate. The vinegar glaze cut through the rich, fatty pork belly really well. The ginger mayo was appetizing and unique. And the tortillas were good quality. Yummy. The Korean-Style Fried Chicken Sandwich was also nicely presented, but tastewise it paled in comparison. As a fan of Korean fried chicken, I can't recommend it. The sandwich was a little dry -- both the fried chicken itself and the sandwich lacked sauce. I think you can see it in the picture I took of the sandwich. It wasn't bad, but the tacos were way better. The potato wedges that came with the sandwich were par for the course. Service was fine. Jevon was nice. 18% gratuity was automatically added to all checks here. One thing I could tell we and other customers didn't like was how tightly solo diners and pairs were seated along the banquette. It was awkward and uncomfortable, especially for an airport restaurant where more space should be allowed for luggage. Other airport restaurants allow for more space. Why not this one? We spoke with the couple sitting next to us about it. After they left, a solo diner took their table. Before he was seated, he asked if he could be seated elsewhere due to how tight the space was (nothing else was available). I felt like my wife and I were dining with those at the tables on either side of us. There was no space or privacy. I get that the restaurant is trying to maximize their space/profit, but the atmosphere wasn't enjoyable for us as customers. Also, regarding the vibe, people were getting crunk at both the bar and in the dining area. It got quite loud at times. LAX has free Wi-Fi. The drinks were fine, no complaints there. The prices are a bit steep, even for an airport bar. And I've never cared for automatic tips being charged on the tab. I also thought the service was average at best. It took us a few minutes to get either of the bartenders' attention. They weren't busy but just seemed to have a practice of looking at the ground when they were walking by so they wouldn't see us. Ironically, it was a hostess standing at the entrance that had to alert the bartenders that we were waiting to order. LOVE how this eatery was right next to our gate 33 Delta. The location in the airport of this place made it super convenient for us. I think all gates should have an eatery place in like super close proximity to the gate. There was no wait for us, so we were seated right away. The service was great too, only thing was our waitress wasn't sure if there were nuts in a certain dish. But other then that, she was great and checked in on us frequently. The food was amazingly good! We got a meal voucher from our canceled flight, so we were able to use the voucher here which was super helpful! The pork taco was really good. Not to pickle-y and there was a spear piece of pineapple which gave it a sweet kick. The smash burger was so YUM! I had mines without cheese, and it was so good. It came with TWO burger patties which were cooked to perfection & made the burger thick. The arugula inside was a nice touch of greens and it brought out the sensational taste of the burger. I know airport restaurants don't have the best reputations, but I wanted to give Native the benefit of the doubt. Alas, it ended up being one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. I was reading some work emails and had not even touched my food when the server came by again to drop the bill. I can't recall if this had ever happened to me. Adding to my annoyance was the 18% gratuity already included in my bill for my party of one, so basically I was forced to over-tip for poor service. The food itself did not taste super awful or give me a stomachache, but I did not appreciate how messy it was to eat. The pork belly + other toppings don't fit into the small tortillas, and the sauce was so thin that it dripped straight to my hands when I picked up a taco. Let's just say I've had better tacos. The fish was interesting but if you prefer the texture of smoked salmon, then this isn't for you, as the sturgeon is cooked fish. The fish was ok but the avocado toast could've been better. I wasn't super impressed with the flavor or level of mash of the avocado, and the toast was a thicker type of toast then what I would've liked. The service was really nice and quick though, so no issues with that aspect and they do a good job of getting you in and out.
