Tried this place for the first time on a Friday night. The restaurant was packed, but we were…read moreseated promptly, which was nice. I ordered the steak sandwich, which was a 10/10. My daughter ordered the Gilroy garlic pasta, which was also delicious. My son ordered the mac and cheese from the kids' menu, and my wife ordered the lettuce wraps. The food took a while to come out, but given how busy the restaurant was, that was understandable. Up until we received the bill, the evening was nearly perfect. Unfortunately, that's when things took a disappointing turn. The $19 lettuce wraps ended up costing us $31. During the ordering process, my wife asked our server, Jesus C., how the lettuce wraps came. He explained that she could choose chicken, salmon, or both, with 6 ounces of each. She chose both, not realizing that selecting those options would result in an additional charge. I take responsibility for not specifically asking whether there would be an extra charge. However, I also believe that when a menu item has a listed price and a customer is given additional protein options, the server should clearly explain that choosing those options will increase the price. Simply presenting them as available choices without mentioning an additional charge is misleading and creates an unpleasant surprise when the bill arrives. Unfortunately, a similar situation happened later in the meal. My 4-year-old son ate his mac and cheese very quickly. Jesus noticed and asked if he would like more. I agreed, again because no additional charge was mentioned. We expected to pay the $9 listed price for the kids' meal, only to find that we had been charged $18. I understand that restaurants charge for additional portions and upgrades, and I have no issue paying for something when the cost is clearly communicated beforehand. My concern is that, in both situations, we were not informed that additional charges would apply. Overall, this experience was disappointing. I left feeling like the pricing had not been communicated transparently, which unfortunately overshadowed what otherwise would have been an excellent meal. All that was needed was a simple statement such as, "There will be an additional charge for that." Moving forward, I will certainly make sure to ask about additional charges before agreeing to anything. However, I also believe the responsibility should be on the restaurant to clearly communicate pricing when customers are offered upgrades or additional portions. I will also be contacting Santa Clara County Weights and Measures to ask whether these pricing practices comply with applicable requirements. Update: After posting my review, the manager followed through and promptly contacted me regarding my concerns. We had a productive conversation, and the issue was resolved to our satisfaction. I appreciate the manager taking the time to personally reach out, listen to our concerns, and make things right. While our original experience was disappointing, I'm pleased with how the restaurant handled the situation afterward. That level of follow-through is appreciated and speaks positively to their commitment to their customers.

They have so many options on the menu that I honestly had a hard time deciding what I wanted between the steak, pork chops, pasta, and everything else. We live in Mountain View, so I'm a little sad it's all the way in Gilroy, but anytime we're passing through the area, we'll definitely be stopping by again. Such a great little find!

It was around 10am on a Thursday and the place was hopping with customers. We were told to sit anywhere and provided drinks and menus quickly. The menu is quite extensive. I ordered Virginia ham, hash browns and sunny side up eggs ($13.99). My family member ordered a burger. The food arrived quickly. HUGE portion sizes of tasty food. The Virginia ham was a very tender 1/2 inch thick luscious slab. My family member raved about how tasty the burger was and we were both in a food coma when we left. The parking lot is laid out kind of weird but all parking spots are easy for the mobility impaired to navigate to the entrance of the restaurant. Overall, this is a fun and hunger satisfying local eatery.

Large portions, a self-serve BBQ sauce station, and plenty of beers and NA options to choose from make for a great visit. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Awesome patio space, great for groups. The brisket and tri-tip were the shining stars here. Tender, juicy, and meaty. Good cuts of meat, and it's clear they put time into their processes. Really enjoyed both of their BBQ sauces, and the baked potato was also very well done. Pretty good service. Order at the counter, and they bring it out to you. Bus your own table; I'm sure it helps keep prices down. My dad said he wanted to come back here every day of our vacation. Certainly worth checking out!

Walking in the lady greets you and allows you to select your own seat. It isn't packed at all. The waitress is very kind. My bf ordered the chili verde burrito and I ordered the chicken bacon sandwich. Our food was absolutely amazing. The chili verde had the softest meat I've ever had (yes, I stole some off his plate!). The flavors were very authentic, the colors vibrante and the taste was like homemade with love. My chicken sandwich also didn't disappoint. I decided on a salad so can't rate any fries. The chicken was delicious perfectly seasoned and not dry AT ALL. We also ordered the chips and guacamole that was the best I've had anywhere. Extremely fresh feels like it was made to order. We drove home and enjoyed our large amount of left overs (because the portions are large) for dinner and it was still amazing!!! We will be back just to visit Dany's!

I will say that while everyone enjoyed their meals well enough, I heard from more than one person in our party that, for whatever reason, they preferred Black Bear Diner's breakfast. The one thing I didn't appreciate about this place was the very distracting stand of cheap toys and tchotchkes for sale. We were seated at the table directly in front of it and I kept having to remind my kids to stay seated and that we were there to eat, NOT for junky knock off toys.

We were seated right away and our server was awesome. When the food came it was tasty and well done this time. My family member had one of the many cheeseburger choices and onion rings. I had the ham steak, eggs, and Belgian waffle. Everything came to the table hot and in a timely manner. The only slight hiccup was the ham steak, compared to other Black Bear Diners, it was on the small size. Interestingly, even though it was after 1pm on a weekday, all the parking spots were full and we needed to park in the overflow parking at the hotel next door. I am upping my rating from a 3 to a 4 and would be willing to visit again in the future.
