Hate to vote down a small local place, but the food was subpar. Had corned beef hash and eggs. The eggs were overcooked, hash out of a can, and the potatoes were cold and hard, basically inedible. Coffee had grounds in the bottom. Service was good, but a little slow due the fact there was a group of teenaged girls and a table giggling and screaming like at a party, and there were constant servers over there. Went here for my birthday weekend. We needed to eat something before heading out for a hike at the Pinnacles. The wait wasn't bad for a party of seven, and the service was decent. Food: I didn't want to eat anything too heavy before hiking, so I ordered the tuna melt sandwich, which unfortunately was a fail. I'm not sure how you can really mess up a tuna melt, but the bread was soggy and drenched in butter. The tuna itself was greasy and way too peppery. I couldn't even finish it because I felt like I was going to get hyperlipidemia! The onion rings were burnt, and they had run out of ranch. Their pancakes were good, though -- I guess that explains the name "Flapjacks." The restroom was disgusting, like it hadn't been cleaned in forever. There were dust mites everywhere, along with rusty and greasy areas that needed more than just a little TLC. There wasn't even any soap, so I had to use my own antibacterial wipes. In a desperate search for coffee, we stumbled upon Flapjack's Breakfast, and quickly realized what a delightful stop this is. The service is friendly, and we barely had to wait to receive our order. I had the Baja Breakfast tacos and my friend had the pancakes. The tacos are hearty and flavorful. My friend is contemplating marrying the pancakes as she cannot foresee a future without them: perfectly balanced choice ingredients (one blueberry, one chocolate chip) and batter...it was love at first taste. We live in Hollister and this is our go to breakfast spot when family or friends come to visit. Unfortunately, our experience this morning was not good. This is also my first review of any kind. Firstly...there were only 3 of us dining for breakfast. One order was correct and the 2 orders that were brought to our table were clearly not ours. Secondly, we had to get up and get our own place settings. The wait time for taking our order and bringing our drinks was clearly not normal. The young gentleman that took our order probably should have a bit more training in customer service. (no smile, no front of the house etiquette, disposition & demeanor seemed to be tired or sad) Pancakes were excellent as usual. Biscuits & gravy seemed to have been sitting a bit before hitting our table and the gravy was extremely salty. (I know because I frequently order biscuits & gravy here). This morning...overall was disappointing. No one came to refill coffee, soda and water. The service here was great and this place is SO cute! The giant tables inside are really cool and great for families. The patio outside is lovely and is quite spacious and such a nice vibe. The food is SO good. I got a burger that was cooked to perfection and the bread was delicious. Came here with a group of 11. Food was fantastic and portions were HUGE. I had a short stack of 2 flapjacks and they were massive- the pic does not do it justice. I also had a side of sausage links which came with 3 links. My daughter had silver dollar pancakes (which were the size of regular pancakes) and a side of extra crispy bacon. Another daughter had a breakfast burrito which was also gargantuan. Our server was so friendly and sweet and took care of several special requests and kept the coffee flowing. Walked in on a Saturday morning and were told we could choose a table in the corner. The restaurant was not busy at all. There were about four young employees gathered near the soda machine when we arrived. After sitting down, it took about five minutes for anyone to come over and they only checked on the table next to us, with no acknowledgment of us at all. I had to wave down a young lady to ask if she could wipe our table, which had dirty silverware and syrup spread across it. We were seated at a dirty table despite staff standing around nearby. She came with a rag, removed the dirty fork and knife, and wiped only the portion of the table she could reach. The table is large, so I ended up asking for the rag and cleaning the rest myself. While I didn't make a big deal out of it, it's frustrating to see staff slacking off while the owner is in the back cooking. The food itself was flavorful, but the garlic was extremely overpowering especially in the potatoes and breakfast burritos. It was far too much and overwhelmed everything else. One young man brought out our waters, but on the way he stopped at a table to pull his pants up before continuing to serve us. Throughout the restaurant he was clearly struggling to keep his pants up, exposing his boxers. There should absolutely be a dress code when working in food service. Overall, the service and cleanliness were disappointing. The blinds also looked like they could use a good dusting. This place has potential, but the front-of-house staff needs much better oversight and attention to basic cleanliness and professionalism. read more

This is our first time trying Flapjacks--thanks to a friend who recently started working here. My husband and I visited with the notion of ordering takeout not just for us, but for the family at home. We appreciated the warm smile, and friendly greeting (first impressions are the most important), as well as, the little details put forth by the staff while we were waiting for our takeout order. Moreover, despite a 20-minute drive, the food remained warm, fresh and flavorful, thus enjoying *everything upon arriving back home (*Chicken Apple Walnut Blue Salad, Tres Peños Burger, Philly cheesesteak, side of Garlic fries, Breakfast tacos and Grilled chicken sandwich). This is a nice little restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. I always enjoy sitting in the outside area when the weather permits. Today I had the chilaquiles. I found the dish to be mushy and the the tortilla chips were very soft. The flavor was strange to me and a bit bland. Two others at my table ordered the same thing and enjoyed their meals, so maybe it was just me. I did eat part of my meal, however when our server found that I was unhappy, my meal was discounted. I was asked if I wanted to order something else and chose not to, so I did not expect anything. I genuinely appreciated the gesture. The service was very quick and efficient. Would it kill this place to chop fresh potatoes for breakfast? How about a salsa that doesn't come from a jar from the bottom shelf at the grocery store? You're in the middle of California surrounded by the freshest ingredients on the planet. And, when you drench crispy bacon with this store bought salsa it no longer is crispy. I ate the food(not the frozen potatoes) because I was hungry. But it was very disappointing. The egg was cooked nicely, and the bacon tasted good despite its now soggy texture. But I would never tell anyone to eat here. Update 9/7/24 I just received a message that the horrible salsa is made in house. My review just got worse. A chef, especially one living in California, who thinks that salsa was good enough to serve should be fired. They have zero understanding of what a good salsa should be. Wow!
