A small modern shop specializing in just spicy fried chicken sandwiches. They also do wraps and salads using the fried chicken and also fries. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are a few tables inside, and everything looked clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We tried the basic macaco chicken sandwich with mild spice and the parmesan garlic fries. The sandwich was amazing with a great sauce, pickles, and slaw. The chicken was cooked just right. I could have gone spicier than mild but my friend is sensitive and we were sharing. The fries, however, were just ok. The parmesan garlic was just a powder on top, and I wasn't crazy with the actual base fries. I would, however, definitely come back here for another sandwich again hands down.

#4 Honey pepperjack with Hot level. The Honey (sweet) really complimented the spice. Very large sandwich.

Great food... large portions... friendly staff... great place to visit if you're in Gilroy

The Macaco Sandwich Level Fire ($12.99)

What an unassuming spot! Stopped by for a quick lunch and was taken by surprise for sure. I got the Macaco Sandwich spice level fire. I typically find that places have a hard time making chicken breast juicy and not dry, but Macaco was honestly the prime example of a perfect chicken breast sandwich. Freshly fried so the chicken comes piping hot and crispy. Inside was so moist and juicy. Perfect ratio of bread to chicken to slaw and sauce. The chicken was also huge! (pic doesn't do it justice). The seasoning wasn't overpowering and I loved the peppery-ness of it which carries an authentic kick! Overall, no complaints about the food from me. The meal does get a bit expensive when paired with fries, but the sandwich itself was enough to satisfy me. I would say it took around 15-20 minutes to receive my order even though it was pretty much empty, so be prepared to wait. But I do know they are making it fresh back there! :) If I lived closer I'd be back for sure!

Ivan is a very dedicated chef/owner of the restaurant at Macaco!! This place is deserving of the best Chicken Sando in the area!!! I have tried the traditional chain restaurants in different areas and I can confidently say that this is a very special place. Carlos up front, patiently takes your order and works diligently to get your order right! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Let me tell you that the ambiance is cool, family oriented, and very calm...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have been to this place twice in the last week and now I am completely convinced that this is a MUST, while in Gilroy!

Macaco chicken sandwich. I took a bite out of it haha it didn't come like that!

Tried this spot for the first time and went with the Macaco Chicken Special combo. I'm usually not big on coleslaw, but it added a surprisingly nice crunch and balance to the sandwich. I ordered it mild after hearing their spice levels run hotter than most, but honestly, I didn't get much heat--definitely going for medium next time. The regular fries were a standout--super hot, crunchy, and perfect with their ranch dipping sauce. I also got the sweet tea lemonade, which was refreshing and not overly sweet. It was ordered via DoorDash - the food was ready on time for pick up! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was very clean and had a lot of tables to sit if you wanted to dine in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich and left so full. Great first visit, and I'm looking forward to trying more from the menu soon!

RIP sandwich, hottest one on the menu, ghost pepper, habanero with some cayenne pepper

Craving a chicken sandwich? You've got to try this place. It was my first time coming here, casual spot in a convention location! Sandwiches are good size and there are lots of options. Food was brought out very quickly and fries came in a huge portion. They have two delicious chicken sandwiches and your choice of heat or NOT, they also have chicken tenders. I ordered their classic chicken sandwich (very spicy) with a side order of fries, very crispy and I enjoyed my meal. I would definitely come back!

Amazing chicken sandwich tastes and feels fresh. Sandwich is well worth the price. Sandwich is big and could get a bit messy so grab a few napkins. Fries pair well with the sandwich. Overall very tasty I plan on coming back to tasty the spicy chicken sandwich.

Food is super yum!!! Service is great!!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is cute so nice clean and cute little place to eat![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Tried it with some friends today and was probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had!!

Great chicken sandwiches! Can be a little pricey, but for how much you get I think they're more than worth it.

There is also a pool table and few arcade games! The menu is extensive with plenty of traditional bar food options and some Irish staples. Everything sounded delicious, but I opted for the Pop"s Pub burger. I figured that would be a good starting point to get a feel of how good the food is. The burger was good, but not $21.00 good. The fries were tasty ,and I really enjoyed the side salad that came with it. The burger itself came with lettuce , tomato and a house sauce (thousand island blend). The burger was cooked perfectly , and tasted pretty good. However, when you add a $10.00 IPA to the equation and throw in a tip- I was out $41.00. I didn't like my meal enough to spend that kind of money. For a burger to be this pricey, I needed more. This place seems like a cool place to chill ,watch a game, and enjoy a cold beer. I may just do that next time and skip the meal. The service was poor. Once my food was dropped off , I never heard from the lady again to check on me until she dropped off the check.

Large portions, a self-serve BBQ sauce station, and plenty of beers and NA options to choose from make for a great visit. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Awesome patio space, great for groups. The brisket and tri-tip were the shining stars here. Tender, juicy, and meaty. Good cuts of meat, and it's clear they put time into their processes. Really enjoyed both of their BBQ sauces, and the baked potato was also very well done. Pretty good service. Order at the counter, and they bring it out to you. Bus your own table; I'm sure it helps keep prices down. My dad said he wanted to come back here every day of our vacation. Certainly worth checking out!

We were greeted by a very friendly waitress. She said we could sit wherever we wanted, asked if we've been in before, and told us about the specials. The interior is cozy, it kind of reminded me of dive bar vibes. They have a lot of drinks on tap and some frozen slushies. I opted for organic iced tea since I don't drink. When I went to the bathroom, I noticed one of the slushies was non-alcoholic so I might try that next time. We ordered the Bourbon Bacon Burger with Chili Cheese Fries and the Supreme wood-fired pizza. The burger was fantastic! The BBQ sauce was delicious, the bacon and onion rings were crispy, and the fries were great. I enjoyed the chili, but I didn't think the cheese sauce or sour cream really stood out. I thought the crust on the pizza was perfect, I really enjoyed the wood-fired vibe and fresh toppings. This would probably be my favorite pizza if they used better mozzarella. For now, Bizza is holding the top spot for me since they use Butcher's Son mozzarella, and in my opinion, it's the best vegan mozzarella sub I've ever had from pizza spots so far. Even though I have notes, I still think the overall meal was a home run and the staff were super friendly so they get 5-stars in my book.
