The other day my partner was craving chicken, so I searched "Chicken" on yelp in Gilroy and this place popped up. I thought the name of the place was interesting, but the SANDWICHES from all of the images I saw on Yelp looked absolutely incredible. I knew we had to go try them ourselves. A small modern shop specializing in just spicy fried chicken sandwiches. They also do wraps and salads using the fried chicken and also fries. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are a few tables inside, and everything looked clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We tried the basic macaco chicken sandwich with mild spice and the parmesan garlic fries. The sandwich was amazing with a great sauce, pickles, and slaw. The chicken was cooked just right. I could have gone spicier than mild but my friend is sensitive and we were sharing. The fries, however, were just ok. The parmesan garlic was just a powder on top, and I wasn't crazy with the actual base fries. What an unassuming spot! Stopped by for a quick lunch and was taken by surprise for sure. I got the Macaco Sandwich spice level fire. I typically find that places have a hard time making chicken breast juicy and not dry, but Macaco was honestly the prime example of a perfect chicken breast sandwich. Freshly fried so the chicken comes piping hot and crispy. Inside was so moist and juicy. Perfect ratio of bread to chicken to slaw and sauce. The chicken was also huge! (pic doesn't do it justice). The seasoning wasn't overpowering and I loved the peppery-ness of it which carries an authentic kick! Overall, no complaints about the food from me. The meal does get a bit expensive when paired with fries, but the sandwich itself was enough to satisfy me. I would say it took around 15-20 minutes to receive my order even though it was pretty much empty, so be prepared to wait. I've had this 3x, the service is good if you're eating in and the sandwich is ready to go within 10-15min if you order ahead.
